The Dell Venue owners may also want to keep their smartphones up-to-date. So we thought of giving you a tutorial of how to upgrade Dell Venue to Android 2.3.3.
But prior to telling you how to install Android 2.3.3 on Dell Venue, let’s see what do you want in order to be able to perform the installation. You will have to download 2.3.3 Dell Venue port. You will also have to root your Dell Venue to prepare it for Android 2.3.3 upgrade.
Here are the download links of the files you want to updatre Dell Venue to Android 2.3.3 - 4shared.com/file/-388kF2Q/hc_NS_test-81.html
Just before beginning to upgrade your Dell Venue to Android 2.3.3 don’t forget to backup your information, as contacts, text messages and the apps installed from Android Marketplace Location who may be lost when the installation finishes.
Now let’s see how to update Dell Venue to Android 2.3.3 :
1. Install the ROM Manager on your Dell Venue. Get it from Android Marketplace Location, then install the clockwork mod recovery.
2. Connect your Dell Venue to your PC employing the USB information cable. Copy the “hc_NS_test-8.1.zip” file you downloaded to the SD memory card
3. Restart your device in the recovery mode using ROM Manager. As soon as in Recovery Mode, go to ROM Manager and select backup / restore to back-up your information.
4. From the Recovery Menu do a total data erase (including Delvik Cache). When completed, go back to Recovery Principal Menu and choose Flash ROM from SD Card. Navigate the location you copied the ”hc_NS_test-8.1.zip” file and follow the directions for installing Android 2.3.3 on your Dell Venue. As soon as the installation is over, just reboot your Dell Venue device and here you go, you’ve just upgraded it to the new Android 2.3.3

There's a strong possibility it's a fake
the build.prop reports it's a it's either an emulator image or a nexus S image, it also says it's a HC 3.0 rom.
Definitely isnt based on any venue rom at all.
You can try it but as it's difficult to recover venues as there's little modding support you're basically on your own if something goes wrong.
I would recommend against it unless you're on 319 and dont care about losing all your data

I wouldn't trust it. I have been hunting and looking everywhere for a possible update, with no luck. If there was one to show up, I am sure it would end up on xda somewhere.

I rooted it with Gingerbreak apk then installed clockwork mod, then I made nand backup before the upgrade.

Omnichron, Is the upgraded version working good without any issues ?

Search for "hc_NS_test-81" on Google, it seems this file upgrades:
Nexus S to Honeycomb 3.0
LG Alley to Gingerbread 2.3
Sony Ericsson W8 to Honeycomb 3.0
Samsung Captivate to Honeycomb 3.1
Xperia X10 to Gingerbread 2.3.3
Motorola Milestone to Gingerbread 2.3.3
Samsung Showcase i500 to Froyo 2.2
Samsung Moment to Gingerbread 2.3.4
and now
Dell Venue to Gingerbread 2.3.3, 2.3.4, or 3.1 (search "hc_NS_test-81 venue")
Looks like just wishful thinking to me.

As I previously mentioned it seems to be a fake, but noone's stopping you from trying it/bricking your phone.
I'm also confused on what the previous poster's phone is, as it's not a venue(?). Seeing as the venue hasnt ever had clockwork ported to it.
If it did then it's doing a great job hiding in plain sight as noone ever mentioned anywhere about having ported clockwork, much less setting it up to be served by rom manager (it takes a couple extra unrelated steps to set up)

No Way
Without a verified version of Clockwork out for the Venue, no way I am touching this one with a 10 foot pole.

That's what I was wondering.
One suggestion , there's a app named root tool box pro , it needs root access, and can flash recovery . make back up of recovery, wipe caches , Battery stats, fix market link, tweak sdcard speed, md5 sum fix, remove system app, and many more , checkout on market , if someone needs this app pro version and don't want to spend money on it let me know I have it and will share.

You should remove what you said, xda does not tolerate warez

I should mention I upgraded mine and it worked well for a bit then it would not start up beyond the Dell logo. I had to restore original Rom.

[Q] Dell Streak 2.2 - 2.2.2 update help

Ok i had 2.2 and then it had the update for 2.2.2 so i downloaded that and i kept on getting problems with it for example it kept force closing and then it kept on faactory reseting itself. it then didnt work at all apart from when i turn it on the logo came up then turned of and carried on doing this for ages
i sent it to dell they sorted it out and put the 2.2 back on, it now keeps telling me to update it to 2.2.2 but i dont want to do it if i will get the same problems so has anyone else had the problems? and what do people think i should do just leave it as 2.2 or update it?
thanks help would be appreaciated
to the top someone help
There is a post somewhere that gives info on how to get rid of the notification for the update, or you can just ignore it
but im thinking is it worth doing the update?
and ill try and find were you can get rid of it thanks
It sounds like you had a bad flash, which would explain why after the update the Streak was doing what you said.
It's worthwhile to do the update. But you might have better luck if you download the update.pkg from xda's wiki and doing the update manually rather than relying on Dell. ROM 351 is a good choice.

wouldnt know how to do all that, any ideas how its done and is it easy?
i would love the gingerbread 3.0 or something as ilove the menus but i wouldnt know how to root the phone and do all of that
thanks
Sorry, no Gingerbread if you're wanting to stay with a stock ROM. It is fairly easy to do, but read all the information at the link below carefully before you attempt to manually change the firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14815054&postcount=2
ahhh looks to confusing :L,
if i was to just update it through the dell would it be bad do you think?
Seriously?
1. Find and download the update.pkg from the wiki to the root of your SD.
2. Rename the downloaded package to update.pkg
2. Shut down the Streak.
4. Boot into recovery mode by holding down both volume buttons while turning the Streak on.
5. Select option 2 on the screen that comes up.
6. Hit the appropriate button on the screen that comes up after that to install the update.
Wait about twenty minutes, and you're done. Set up your accounts, install your apps, and you're on your merry way.
Radimus uses Fastboot. The method above is essentially what Dell will have you do, with the exception that you're downloading the ROM yourself instead of using Dell's OTA application. In any event, it's not that difficult, whichever way you want to go.
haha thats easier one thing i didnt kow what package to download? any ideas what one

actually im a bit lost on 5 and 6, dont know what it means by copy this..
adb.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll
fastboot.exe (acquired in Step 0) <--- If you see: 'fastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command... RTFM
recovery.img (aquired from Step 2)
update.pkg (aquired from Step 2)
ApplyRecovery.bat (created in Step 5)
into a folder wat folder? and what do i do with the notepad bit?
Use the 351 ROM if you have an unlocked Streak. That's a very stable, 2.2.2 ROM.
If you're using Radimus' guide to do the upgrade, he explains exactly where to get everything and where to put everything, so if you're stuck at step 5 on his guide, you need to read his guide again, carefully. The directory you put all the stuff in though can be anything you want, as long as it's on the root of drive C and has no spaces.

at the moment i have done it all downloaded, and just copied the update.pkg to my memory. were do you get the fastboot i think it was from i have never seen that?
i have done the volume up/down and powerbuttonw loads to do the hard restore but never seen the fastbook
have got a bit further doesnt work :/
got to step 9 and nothing happened it just said fastboot_mode and not the ready
Did you download the drivers from the link Radimus provided and did you follow his instructions in the PDF to get your computer to see the Streak?
the rdimus way
might just do the update through the notif bar ;/ what do you rthink?
If you're still getting the update message, you might as well. Though I thought you were trying to avoid a repeat of what happened the last time when you tried to do the update.
yh i am its annoying ha, yh i would like to do it so i dont have the same problems but doing it the other way i had no luck
Well then, if you're trying to avoid that problem, why are you not at least trying the step by step instructions I gave back in post 9 of this thread? The only time you have the Streak connected to the computer is to copy the .PKG file you downloaded from the XDA wiki. After that, it's all done on the Streak.
And just to clarify something, once you get the Streak into recovery mode, you use the volume controls to navigate between the various options and the camera button to select.

OEM Version : GAUSB1A135100
Build number : 15609
I am unable to either root or upgrade dell streak 5 to 2.3 or higher andriod verisions.
Have used this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dell_Streak#Official
to download the files i.e. update.pkg and have installed update.pkg but I cannot boot my phone into recovery mode. It provides the option to select update.pkg but the phone wont boot into clockwork recovery mode and give an option to use update.zip or install new custom ROM. Can anyone please guide how to root the phone and upgrade the ROM to gingerbread or any higher versions please send an email to [email protected]
XDA-developers is a great site.
The menu with the option to install an update package is recovery mode. Sounds like you are booting into the stock recovery.
Don't hold your breath waiting for an e-mail from someone telling you how. This is a forum where solutions are shred publicly so that many can benefit. It is not a personal support area.
The answers you need are here in this forum. Take the time to read in more depth.
Thank you for the help.
I have read almost all the threads related to update streak 5 on custom rom and downloaded numerous files. After trying every possible way now I thought its time to seek help. I am able to use update.pkg but then the option to use update.zip for custom ROM isn't shown. Will be great if you could guide the way
Good job Marvin +1
IF you read the post in DSC 07 it will walk you through what your trying to do all the answers are there with step by step instruction you might be in over head and end up with a $200 brick

[Q] dell streak 5 army edition

okay so i recently acquired an dell streak 5. i am in the service and the army calls it a panthr. i want to wipe all the army stuff off and try and use it as a personal device. any help would be appreciated. thx.
First, show us some pictures of this as we've never seen one. Second, the guides here should work just as well on your unit as any other Streak, unless Dell made some enhancements for the military version to prevent rooting the device. Last, take a backup of that firmware.

okay so, change to situation. woke up this morning and the dell streak turned and was stuck on the dell logo boot screen. never left there. it has continued to do its boot loop. i tried to flash a new android 2.2 os; didnt work. tried to flash a new rom: didnt work. i also tried to root it using superoneclick, also didnt work. im out of ideas for doing a recovery for the device. i kinda figured the root process would fail due to the fact that superoneclick needs the phone to be on and open to work and authorize but i gave it a go. any more ideas would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

That sounds like stock recovery now I think about it. I recently was looking at the commit that Intel added for viewing the recovery log.

Is there any update on getting root on the new Venue 10 5050? Perhaps there is something I can pull from the firmware of the device that would aid in getting a proper exploit working to use the tethered CWM...
I honestly thought I could deal without root as it is so close to stock Android. But like the OP mentions, Dell loaded so much crap into /system. McAffee? Really Dell?
---------- Post added at 12:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:19 AM ----------
Success!
Here is how I managed to root the Dell Venue 10 5050 32GB running 5.0.2:
Install Intel ADB drivers from here: IntelAndroidDrvSetup1.9.0.zip
Use the beta tethered CWM release from Feb: IntelAndroid-FBRL 05-16-2015 Public Trail Release
The 2nd method "T2" is what worked. There was an OEM Command Not Found when it tried to reboot to Recovery. I just hit VOL UP button and it kicked off the tethered recovery!!
Now I was in CWM, but I did not have access to /sdcard. So, I grabbed a micro SD, copied "SuperSU-v2.46.zip" and installed ZIP from external SD. Hit reboot and fix root. ART had to rebuild the cache, so I waited past the "Android is Upgrading" screen for about 10 minutes.
Voila! Now I have working root on the Dell Venue 10 5050 build SOC101A203400DEL Android 5.0.2
awesome job!

The root apps I installed are AdAway, App Ops, Greenify, Wakelock Detector, Root Explorer and Titanium Backup. I then used Titanium Backup to backup and then uninstall McAffee, Polaris, Evernote, & Audible. There might have been a couple others like Pinyin Input, I can't remember. Basically, if it can be installed from the Play Store, then I don't want it as a /system app.
I think I'm going to try removing everything that starts with Dell as well...
You are correct that an OTA update would either 1) Remove SuperSU and root or 2) not update.

Oh yeah. Former Dell Streak owner here. Dell is notoriously bad at system updates. The real question is why the hell is there a locked bootloader keeping us *the xda community, from updating it ourselves...

This is the step by step for the tethered root for Intel devices. If you have never rooted a device before, I recommend a full stop. I received my Venue for free from Dell as a business rewards program. There was very little risk if something went wrong. I have also rooted / flashed many devices over the past ten years of owning smart phones and tablets. The Venue 10 was by far the most difficult for me.

Thanks for the advice. I have been here in the Dom. Repub. unlocking all sorts of phones but never dabbled into the Android arena do to the word, BRICK. AS OF TONIGHT THOUGH, MY DELL IS ROOTED! I love your walk through @nickshertzer, that with "http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/intel-android-devices-root-temp-cwm-t2975096' Just time reading and taking lots of pics in case I bricked it to learn for next time. lol I will admit though I did say a few prayers (to make me feel better) The area I was having trouble was getting the " DEVICE STATUS: UNKNOWN" and "DEVICE STATUS: UNAUTHORIZED " to go green, but finally relised the tablet needing user unput... duhhh:silly:! After that it was a breeze. Thanks to you and a few others my first root was a breeze. No bricks in this house of concret!
well dell keeps updating the Dell Venue 10 5000 series tablet. I have it rooted via tether. It would not finish the update. It failed on reboot. I then tried removing root. Device still would not finish the update. Any ideas as to what to do to get updates ? thanks
