[Q] Turning Nexus S into an MP3 player - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I was checking out PowerAMP the other day and was quite impressed with its capabilities. Especially the downloading of album art and Scrobbling to last.fm; so I bought it!
Anyways, my question is:
Is there anything I can do to further integrate any apps or Android mods to make it even more of an MP3 player? I can't think of anything other than using PowerAMP and not sure if there's really anything else that could be done.
PowerAMP has made me switch from carrying around my Nexus and my 80GB Zune to just my Nexus only. I like being able to delete songs as I listen to them which my Zune can't do and hear when I get a TXT MSG or when someone is calling me.
My only gripes are that USB transfer speeds are incredibly slow and the Nexus does not have a MicroSD slot.
Fake edit: While typing this I remembered to ask; are there any earbuds compatible with Android phones that have a built in mic with an answer button?

[Q] usb dac/usbhost

Hey all. I want to use a USB DAC on my prime, I know its not possible on the stock prime, but I would be willing to unlock/root to do it. I've rooted android devices before, but its been a purely "paint by numbers" affair for me. I see people talking about things in the dev threads that go way over my head. Does anyone know a good rom I can use that will give me USBHOST functionality to use a DAC, or failing that could someone somehow customize the ability to do so into the rom?
I am an audiophile, and the primes onboard DAC makes my ears want to bleed and my sr225i's want to melt. And please dont try and tell me to get beats audio, or some other software EQ mod, I'm tired of people being like "HURR DURR GET BEATS AUDIO/DSP AUDIO", while they listen to music on their cheap skullcandy headphones. Sorry, didnt mean to rant. I just really dont want to buy an ifad but it is looking like that is the only option.
Anyway... I just need a stock/bloatware removed rom (a little overclocking wouldent hurt either), with the ability to rock a USB DAC. I tried using the search function but there wasnt really any informative answers out there, which is truely disconcerting. I am really at a loss for what to do here.
So no one has any info on a usb audio enabled rom/kernal? No other audiophiles here? Dissapointing.
It might get support when we are updated to Jellybean. See here:

No Metadata sent to receiver

Hello all, just a couple of thing that I'm having problems with and thought you guys may be able to help. I have a Sony XAV-712HD receiver in my car and use the Xperia Z3v with it and I get no song info from any app via Bluetooth connection. I tried my wife's Galaxy S4 and my friends Note 4 and both put song info up on the display immediately. Also anyone using MirrorLink, I have low sound quality and can't adjust the volume on the phone while in Mirrorlink. I know it says Bluetooth is not supported when using ML but if I use audio through the cable it only plays through my front speakers. Anything you guys can help with would be great! Thanks in advance!
So I can better help you, which music apps do you use? For example I use Google's Play Music. On a side note, have you checked Bluetooth settings while you are connected or trying too connect to see what's going on?
I just posted a reply but don't know where it went... LOL Anyway, I have checked BT settings on both devices connected and not. I use Spotify, Amazon, Walkman with music on sd card, and iHeart. I have factory reset both devices and still no go. I really wanted to like this device but the lack of data while on a call just doesn't work with my career and my boss ordered me a Note 4 that will be here in the morning. If you don't have time to mess with it don't worry about it. Just kind of wondering if anyone else was having an issue.
That's weird... Sorry I couldn't help you. Hopefully that issue works out for you. The data and call feature should be fixed along with xlte with the lollipop update which should be soon. Which could be this month or next month.
Not a problem man. Thanks for trying to help! I was told by the rep at the end of last year it would be a couple of months but it has recently become a real issue. Thanks again!
My poineer unit receives song data from every app I've tried. Walkman, Spotify(What I use most), Google play, pandora.. etc.
However, my girlfriends G3 doesn't show anything when playing via her phone.

Bluetooth playback issues

Hello all,
I'm experimenting some issues with my OPX while listening to music in Bluetooth.
I have the last update and I use Play Mauic.
1) When i am at the middle of the song and I connect for example, the song starts again on the Bluetooth device whereas on my phone it still display the middle of the song. Like 2:13/3:26 for example. It isn't a big issue but maybe it's linked to the others.
2) randomly, when a song is automatically skipped to the next one, because it has ended, again my player shows that the next song is playing whereas I can't hear anything or sometimes it stutters A LOT, like I can hear one second for each 10 seconds. To fix if I just have to click on "previous" so the song start again and it works flawlessly. This issue happens very often.
Is it a known issue? Is there a fix? I've never seen this kind of issue with other devices ao I'm sure it's because of the OPX.
Thank you.
I got the same issue. It is very annoying. You can also make the title play again by moving the progress slider a little bit back or forward. It happens also with other music players.
Someone answered on my G+ post it happens with headphone jack too. I haven't tried it tho.
I got this problem with my Sennheiser MM100 as well as on my Bose Soundlink 2.
I have also a mini sound link 2.
Buy with my cans it doesn't happen (through jack)
If it's a common problem, let's hope we'll get a fix soon.
I find it crazy that even now there is no fix. It's getting really annoying and 1+ is doing nothing, as well as for the shutters in video playback (on YouTube or Facebook). I'm definitely disappointed and thinking about selling my phone. Did anyone find a fix?
I'm using BlackPlayer, no issues with blueooth playback stutter. Issue 1) is no problem for me, I want to hear the song from start.
No random skips or stutter.

I'm sorry but I don't care the way I should use my phone, I use it as I wish and as I've always done, it's not to OnePlus to dictate me how to use my phone. It's good if you don't care but I do. I don't want to change my habits. However you didn't my problem, it's not about random skips, it just that sometimes there's no more sounds which are casted, so it's a real issue, it's not about the starting over.
Listening to music through bluetooth is just a pain, and the phone is out for months, OnePlus did nothing. That's sad.
I'm on OOS 2.1.3-x and I use Double twist player with no problem over bluetooth. So maybe the problem is Play music

I've never had your 'no more sounds which are casted' issue experince through bluetooth. Are you full stock?
Bluetooth issues
OnePlus 2 is a pretty decent phone, offering good build quality and performance for a reasonable price.
Turn the Bluetooth off and then turn it on back again.
Clear the Bluetooth cache by going to its Settings.
Restart the phone once you have cleared the cache.
Try deleting the old and unused connections and then set up the connection all over again.
Someone tryed Bluetooth playback with the newest 2.2.1 update yet?
Last week Thursday I went back from cm13 to OOS since 2.2.0x "fixed Bluetooth". Well guess what. It didn't. Still the same problem that the next song in line gets mutet after a while of playing music through Bluetooth on my MM100 or Bose Soundlink 2.
Some things I realise:
-Poweramp don't have this issues on OOS since it handles music in an other way. So this might be a workaround for people.
-Play Music or Shuttle+ don't work nice with OOS (I needed to switch songs 27 times in order to make it play again in 6h of playing. That's ridiculous)
-back on CM13 based ROM(and CM13 self) I don't have this kind of problems. Play Music works as it should (guess Shuttle too).
Would be nice to hear if the 250mb big update fixed this bug so I can go back to Stock since I kind of like it.

Hi,
Listening music on my USB/Bluetooth speaker is working like a charm but listening music on my Bluetooth car is impossible (like importing contact and calling)

DAC skips beggining of songs

Hi,
Recently bought a V30 and enjoying it so far. One of the main reasons I bought the phone was for the audio capabilities it has.
I just got round to loading my music colection onto the phone. On quite a high number of songs when skipping to the next track when the DAC is enabled it seems to skip the first 0.1-0.25 seconds (estimate) of the next song. It doesn't sound like much, but it is so annoying as you miss the first few notes or half a word. As soon as you disable the DAC or play through speakers the problem goes away. The problem also goes away if you get to end of the previous song, it only seems to occur when you hit skip. Is anybody else having this issue or know a way to correct this?
UK V30 (H930), Apps used were Google play and LG music player. All MP3s are 320kbs, tried on multiple different headphones and earbuds (including supplied). I've also tried turning off and on/updating software to no avail.
Cheers, Joe

How can I disable the audio ducking effect on Android 9's Youtube app?

I'm on Android 9 and I've been trying to use the Youtube app to listen to music as I run deliveries for my business. I'm active on social media in between deliveries so I get frequent notifications, but getting notifications while I'm on the road listening to music is frustrating because the notifications lower my music volume for a second or two and completely throw off my groove! I understand WHY it does this, because as a communication device my phone's intent is to keep me updated on people messaging me, but I'd rather it just play the notification sound WITH the audio instead of trying to MAKE DAMN SURE I heard it.
I don't want to simply turn on Do Not Disturb mode or lower my notification volume as I still want to be able to receive notifications, especially phone calls if my boss rings me, I just want the music to keep playing as I get them.
I've looked through Android's and Youtube's app settings and been unable to find a solid solution to disabling the audio ducking effect, and browsed tons of other forums before coming back here to XDA since I remember having great success with you guys on another much older issue.
I came across an app called Don't Pause! during my searches which apparently solved the audio ducking issue for a lot of people flat-out, but it is no longer on the Play Store and I found an untrustworthy APK download of it that I didn't want to bother with. It's probably too old for Android 9 anyway.
TL;DR Can I get some straight-up solution to disabling the audio ducking effect (either completely, through Android, or locally for just Youtube at least) or an app similar in simple function to the old Don't Pause! app?
Don't Pause ( by XDA-member tpierce89 ) is available here.

God bless you this is the absolute best solution I could have hoped for. I knew coming here was a great idea. Gonna go one up tpierce's post too!
That app unfortunately doesn't fix the problem with audio ducking. I'm searching for a solution that really disables audio ducking, so that my music doesn't get lowered with every notification and every voice or music feedback of other apps (workout apps etc.).
Any ideas how to really disable audio ducking?
I just want to hear any notification and other audio feedback when I'm listening to music without my music volume getting lowered.
