Is there any way rooting HTC Gratia without an xtc clip?
Sent from my R800i using XDA Premium App
Yes. First you will need to use this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133446
Next you need to use this to S-OFF and install custom recovery to your phone: http://revolutionary.io/ (this was formerly known as AlphaRevX)
Please keep in mind that there is not currently a known method to return to S-ON.

Not if you read and follow instructions carefully. Also, I don't see how anyone could manage to brick their device using this method (if they follow instructions).

Well, I have not heard about anyone bricking their device using this method, so if you do manage to brick it, I'm sure you definitely did something wrong which no one can be blamed for other than yourself.

It's likely to be back online but the question is when. It could come back tomorrow, next week, next month even or never. Or, the website could even be changed.

That's because the power button is no longer the way to "select" a choice in Recovery. If you press the power button a second time when that happens it will come back.
Press the trackball button to select and you can use the trackball to move around as well.
I'm not a big fan of the change either. You can flash any version of CWM you want though.

It's a sdcard with a special boot sector image (from Revskills in this case) applied, based on the serial number of the sdcard. it temporarily bypasses your phone's CID to allow flashing HTC updates intended for other carriers/distributors.

Hello,
I am new to android.
I was wondering about the order of action regarding root CWN and unlock.
I know Root is first, but the other two?
I'm pretty sure that the unlock process installs CWM on the phone as well...so you'll only need to do that

Hello,
So whats going on is my QI wireless on my phone stopped charging. so i called verizon to get a replacement which they are overnighting tonight to me. so my question is, is there a way (step by step) to just put the Orignal Recovery Flash rom back on the phone and just lock the bootloader without resetting the phone? if so and do that. well the tamper disappear on the phone as well? ?? because they want the phone how it is. they dont want me to do a phone reset so they can see what cause the problem...
So 2nd question if i don't fix the rooting and ship the phone as is to verizon. Do you think i well get charged for rooting my phone???
Thanks!
Flash a stock rom and kernel, restore all your apps and stuff, delete any root apps, remove supreuser/SuperSU, flash the stock recovery, and relock if you feel like it. If you all that you should be good.
Or just ruu and relock your phone. As long as the problem still persists they won't care that you wiped it.

I hope the new one doesn't come updated because if so you won't be able to root. I would restore the old one and see if the wireless charging works again if so you might want to keep it if the new one is updated.

The download on that post is a zip file, which you would flash in recovery to have a stock Rom. Then you would restore your apps, remove any root apps, remove superuser, put a stock recovery on there and relock.

Are you flashing the boot img in fastboot before installing in recovery? Most sense roms are over 500mb and have the same kernel so it boots up fine without flashing the boot img before hand. Aosp roms will require you to flash the boot img before hand if you're s-on

^This. You will need to put the boot.img in your ADB tools folder on your computer, put the phone in fastboot USB mode and use the command 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' to flash the kernel to your phone. A better solution is to get S-off so you don't have to mess with flashing the kernel separately .

S-OFF is cake now. No reason NOT to do it. It will make all of this EASIER for you. Just up and do it.

From the thread I linked previously -
"You can also come by irc for support or just to say thanks: #FacePalm http://chat.andirc.net:8080/?channels=facepalm"
I know it can be scary, but you have to read the forum(s) and/or watch the video(s). Since you took the trouble to register on this site, don't rush and take the time to learn and understand by reading, reading, and more reading. It's not an overnight thing, but it does come eventually. It took me 6 months before I began to have a decent understanding of what I was doing with my first PC...
No offense, but we can't hold your hand as you cross the street. You have to take those first steps yourself. Read carefully, make notes that YOU will understand a day later... but you must take the responsibility for what happens to your phone.
Can you tell I'm a parent? :silly:

Your computer wont be able to see system folder/files. You need a root browser from play store to do the trick for you. You need to create a preload folder un System/data using root browser. I believe you need to have root access in order to do these steps and for this you'll need a unlocked bootloader, custom recovery and super user flashed.

I'm still battling away with this thing trying to get S-OFF so I can relock bootloader and get my finger print scanner working.
