Hey guys.. I don't know what's going on but I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm currently running WTSB 1.9 on my 3vo with a stock kernel and my netflix app just so that work well anymore. I used to have basically perfect video and sound on it.. Now the video is slowed down to what appears to be about half its regular speed but the audio just keeps on going at regular speed making it very unwatchable. This happens on 4g or WiFi.. Both of which used to give perfect results. Could it be the rom since I updated recently? Something else? Videos saved on my sd in HD still play perfectly so I know it's decoding right. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I don't know if the rom is at fault or not, My netflix works just fine, I am using Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.08.651.3_deodex from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321452 I have tried many roms always end up going back to stock, thanks to this thread it's easier to go back to stock and not have to restore my data either.
Only way you will know if it's the rom or not is to try another rom, then test netflix, if netflix works then it was the rom.
I'm one of those "flash everything and give it a try" kind of guy. I like to try everything out and see what works for me.
The one thing that I've been longing for in every ROM I try is the perfect camera app. I h8 the stock Sammy one. (can't map volume rockers as shutter). Any other camera app that I like doesn't do video. (I usually use Pro Capture). I do like Camera ICS+, but I don't like the fact that it records video in 3gp. I know, I know...I can use a converter app to change to mp4 after the fact, but what can I say? I'm a *****. I want it the way I want it.
The best cam app for me so far is the one running on the CM9 ROMs.
I extracted the apk and tried installing it. It runs fine, BUT......it doesn't save the video. It makes like it's recording, but after I stop recording, it's not saved anywhere.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks a million!
PS: before anyone says "Just stick with one of the CM9 ROMs then!"....the reason is that I've found a particular ROM that I keep coming back to that I really dig the battery life on.
Hi all!
I was just cleaning my room when i found my old x10 mini and i thought why dotn someone create a rom thata makes the cellphone a media player only? Like no sms or calls no apps! just one good mp3/mediaplayer and some eq like DSP manager. this would be so awesome.
So we could put a use to old android phones
this could ofc work on any android phone
so fell free any good developer to take this idea and make it reality:
I will once I get a new phone (october) and can test it without needing radio. The one problem I can see is WiFi and Bluetooth might not work if you disable the radio entirely so its finding how to disable cell radio only.

Can't you just take out the sim-card and strip Android down to just media... wifi and bluetooth should still work, but without a sim there's no 2g/3g.

Good point... trust me to always think about the hard way when something that simple could be done. Soon as I get my GNote I'll do it

I could have a go at stripping stock eclair down and putting in jit, to make it a bit more responsive. Only problem i have with stock is that the sound quality with video-recording is a bit crappy (understatement, it's horrible) in loud environments, is there a way to improve that? I'm not a fan of the dsp-manager, haven't tried it with headphones, but on the phone-speaker it just sounds horrible. Maybe put in SRS trumedia or something like that, if possible?
If I wanted just a media-player i would have:
MusicPlayer
VideoPlayer
Youtube
Camera/Video-recording
Gallery
FM-Radio
Track-ID
Maybe a few small apps:
Notes
Timer
Stopwatch
Calculator
Browser
E-mail
Any thoughts?

If you add wifi and browser and those things it would be like a phone anyways im thinkin like just media stuff.
my opinion:
mp3
video player
camera/recorder
stopwatch/timer (perfect for training)
gallery
fm radio
preferences
-
just so the batery would last longer

Yeh, i was thinking smart mediaplayer.
Quite often i want to know what a song is called or who the artist is, so in those cases i turn on wifi and use trackid to identify the song, maybe the browser to get some more info.
When wifi and bluetooth are turned off they don't consume any battery, so it's not such a problem to keep them in, unlike the 'normal' network services that are always on.
So you wany an Os like ipod?? Just for media

Yes. A lot of people have moved on from their phones but have kept them around and its the sort of thing they'd be great for.
As for DSP-Manager, I find with the rock preset on my Sennheisers Guns N' Roses sound better than with it off, I might to a test CM7 build for it.

Just use the without any sim card...That's it....No need of any other os(music os/rom).. It is as simple as that....
use your x10 mini in fly-mode
I am exactly in the same situation..I recently bought a GNex and so i'm not using my awesome X10Mini anymore..But also due to the fact that the Gnex has no sdcard I was considering the idea of turning the mini into a music player..
I'm not a developer and I have just a little experince in ROM cooking, but I have a lot of free time in this period so I might try to do something..
A good idea.
I think we should ask NaA for permission to use MiniCM7 as a base(smoother than eclair) for such a ROM.
And then we remove the following apps:
Phone
Contacts
SMS
So it essentially becomes a PMP. Leaving YouTube and Browser apps in would be handy for video media consumption and what not.
Airplane mode on by default. Beats audio or some mod that actually improves quality
And there you have it! Of course though, it would essentially be nothing more than a recooked ROM. Anyone with MiniCM7 already installed could just do the above xD
Why recook when you can build it without GSM? I've done it already but not yet tested to see what sort of monster I've created (disabled GSM but might havve disabled. WiFi aswell)

While I can appreciate the novelty of seeing if you can build a ROM that works strictly as a media player, personally I think just using the phone in airplane mode is the best solution.
Consider which you would rather have:
1. a *possible* tiny performance gain from stripping out the GSM radio bits of the ROM
2. the knowledge that if your current phone ever dies or has problems, you can instantly pop the SIM into your old X10 Mini and have a working smartphone again.
I'll take number 2 any day. Even if I was living in the US and my new phone was non-GSM (thus no SIM card) I'd rather the option of being able to use my media player as a phone as well.
Granted, I guess you can always use multi-boot ROM setups. Still sounds like a lot of work to me.
Ever heard of Rockbox? I don't know that they are doing but I heard of an android port. Maybe as an apk. But the idea of it sounds great. I already started using my mini pro as an mp3 player for my wife. In airplane mode.

My SGP4.2 is so ridiculously slow and choppy it borders on being unusable. It's two days old and 8 haven't filled it with anything. At first i thought it was defective, but after seeing some of the review vids, they all act the same. I've rooted mine and removed all of the stuff that samsung put on there (literally have less than one page of apps even with the music software I downloaded), use a different launcher with just a single pane with no widgets at all, deleted all google apps so there is no syncing in the background, and even switched over to a lighter browser and deleted the stock, it still runs like crap. Using poweramp playing 320kbps mp3's, the music skips if i'm browsing the web. There's a two second delay from when i type and the letters apperearing on the screen. That's all i do with this thing, music. Only need a browser to find new music. Its weird because its hardware specs are basically the same as the desire z and xperia play i also have, but they literally run circles around this thing. All on gingerbread too. Is it just a really crappy rom samsung threw on here? Anything i can do? Searched and searched but couldn't find a overclockable kernel or lighter rom. Can't even find a custom recovery so i can flash that adrenaline patch.
Which rom do you run?
Is it the latest? My web browser was choppy at the beginning, but it works fine after the update.

The latest one i guess. Says i'm up to date when i check manually. Its not just web browsing. Everything and everywhere throughout the entire device. Poweramp stutters like crazy. Winamp works much smoother, but poweramp works fine on an unrooted stock desire z. Strange. I may just swap this one out for another. Im thinking it craps out when reading/writing to flash memory. If the replacement has problems too, prpbably just going to get a sony f806.

he has a 4.2 there is ONLY the stock or stock rooted ROM to use.
OP, tegrak overclock or No-frills CPU tuner and see what kind of overclock you can pull, also under advance audio tweaks in poweramp increase the audio buffer size to Large (+250 ms).
you can try doing a complete factory reset.
I know, but mine became much smoother after the update. Just wanted to ask

Increased the buffer to huge (+750ms) and its stuttering less. Thanks. The kernel isn't compatible with tegrak or no-frills. Already looked at those options.
It works fine as a music player. And i got it for a good price. Just going to stick with it and hope a custom rom comes out sometime (or at least a recovery). The back is large enough for me to attach my fiio e11 so its all good. Thanks again.
ive had this beauty sense it was new never really had a particular use for it besides having a bigger screen than my phone but lacking mobile data it seemed kind of pointless most of the time. and its just sat
ive come up with a use for it recently and wanted to see if i could revive it.
i need a few apps for sure.
an audiobook player.
audible.
kindle.
google music.
team viewer to access my home pc's files.
maybe es explorer or wifi file transfer or something of the like.
Bluetooth for my headphones using this would greatly increase the life of my battery in my phone.
the sound output from the 3.5mm headphone jack through the dock
as mentioned above i have a dock for it too so id like to use it as a desktop picture frame for my new daughter on my desk at work as a bonus.
the occasional youtube video would be nice too.
So from all the roms that ive used either one thing or another wont work like Bluetooth, the camera or the roms area getting hard to find due to the age of the tablet, not to mention every time ive tried to flash a new rom on it i get constant freezing and force close or "unfortunately ______ has closed" errors
i have saved :
a pretty large file of roms from different ages and versions of android
odin
stock recoveries
twrp and cwm
but what should i use is there anyone out there using this thing still or should i move on to a newer machine ?
