This is a totaly naked 2.3.4 ROM to be used as a base for making more ROMS
What do you get? Not a hell of allot
Accounts
Contacts
Dialer
Market
Settings
SU
System Recovery
You also get a few mods
SD storage flip/flop
Pulldown Toggles
1% Battery
Massively de-bloated (Sure you may be able to remove some more things but you wont have a stable functioning device you can make calls from) Dialer and Contacts can be removed as well but i didnt want to release something you couldnt @ least make a call with.
Everything has been de-odexed, optimized, zip-aligned and re-signed. Just enough to add your account and use the phone. Everything else is up to you. Are you really picky about each and every app? Well this may be the ROM for you.
Google Backup/Restore is functioning so it will re-populate market apps.
Aspiring ROM makers are welcome to take this and theme it and add whatever apps they desire.
MUST be on 2.3.4
MUST clear data/cache
Download
Wow. Haven't tried yet but if this is truly working I see great things coming from this base soon.
AOSP or Blur? Any Launcher?
The apps that are there are stock.
The launcher was patched for roatation.
So, does stock mean they're aosp? Or blur?

I've been looking for a really stable "naked" ROM like this where I get to choose everything that my phone has on it. So I'm definitely trying this out tonight.
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Stock as in what came on the phone the blur dialer and contacts
Can i get the stock blur text messaging back on this? Just push it to system apps and adjust permissions?

This rom is full of win. Works exactly as advertised

Thanks, it populates lists really fast, espicially in manage apps and whatnot
That is awesome! I will kill the blur launcher and throw ADW EX back in! I really wish these phones were capable of running multiple roms like a PC when you boot through bios. I have Windows 8 Dev Preview and Windows 7 Ultimate. Be cool when you hit power if it asked "Stock Blur, Eclipse, Naked...." You get the point
Great ROM! Only problem is, no camera or gallery. Does anyone have the miui camera and 3D AOSP gallery handy? 'Twould be most appreciated.

If we could do custom bootloaders that would be possible
Thanks for the quick response. Ill be flashing here in a minute.

Got caught naked lol
I wasnt lying about whats included.
I have the 3d gallery and stock camera handy here
Thanks so much! The gallery won't install though.. like, I tried putting it my system/app folder and setting permissions, but it still doesn't want to work. You probably know what I did wrong, don't you?
Edit: my bad. I had another gallery that I tried to install earlier stopping it from installing. Its all good now.

Is there Any way to remove the led notifications completely from stock 2.2 froyo rooted. Its really annoying and kills my battery. On psx4droid for example every press on the screen lights up leds.... i wanna disable em if possible.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
it may be kernel led notify, cant do anything but reflash kernel, are you on bali?
im on stock froyo rom 2.2 but i dont want any custom roms.... I like wifi calling, the stock camera, tethering, and 2.2 unless a rom gets all of those i dont really wanna use any....
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Can anyone help me with this
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Thats not led notifs.. thats just your keys leds .
If you flash certain roms like ics passion, uou can make em not light up or timeout quicker
Flashing roms is a good thing, dont be a sourpuss lol
sent from the xda app on my android smartphone.
Its not so much a sourpuss its the features, I love ics. But the calculator doesn't have scientific view, some things are still messed up like random fcs on home screen and gallery, and you can't completely disable the leds. On cm7 the camera sucks I like the stock one so I stayed on stock froyo one downside of being me is I'm very picky lol if I could make my own rom from stock I'd be all set haha
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Lol your right, .5seconds is not nothing....
And well i understand you... except i dont really see how you can accept stock froyo being as picky as you are... it would just seem to me like youd find so much wrong with it... i did.
sent from the xda app on my android smartphone.
Well its not froyo I like its the small features. If I could keep the stock camera and calculator(need scientific for school) and a few other things(I like Swype) and the notification bar settings, as well as froyos amazing battery life (I get 8 hours of heavy music games and text/call whereas ics I get 6) I would definitely go to cm7 or ics but I'm not that good with flashing and all that junk I just got a huawei ideos about 3 months ago then my vibrant about two months ago and I learned the basics of flashing, stock upgrades kernels etc. Personally I'm 18 in a few days and I'm either getting a galaxy 2 or a Sony vaios with Verizon but idk yet. Love this phone but I play alot of games especially psx4droid so PSP phone is more practical for me, although ill still have this for games and backup
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Um for the calc and whatnot, cant you just look on the market?
sent from the xda app on my android smartphone.
Calc yes cam no I tried to find a nice camera and theres none like the stock camera so I really dont need em although I might just stay with ics for a few days and tweak it to my liking. Maybe after new years ill reflash to ics again

I have an old Evo 3D that i will be just using for a 3D picture/video viewer and want to get rid of/freeze all of the junk and bloatware. No buddies, friendstream, Spiderman etc.
What I need working: WiFi, Google play, gallery, HDMI out, camera. I don't need the phone part to work even.
What is the best smallest ROM that I can use where the above works but the crapware is gone and battery life is better than stock?
Also is there a way to stop all of the remaining stuff from always autoloading and taking up RAM/CPU like maps, mail etc?
Assuming your phone is CDMA, if you are looking for something cleaned up, but still very stock looking, I recommend MeanROM 4.5 for Gingerbread, or Mean ICS for Ice Cream Sandwich. You could also try SOS ICS which is an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM based on Mean ICS but that allows you to pick and choose some options to install.

Since what is crapware is defined by each person individually, what ROM do you suggest? The amount of extraneous software is minimal in Mean compared to most other ROMs, especially compared to stock. Since you are rooted, you can freeze or uninstall apps you do not want using something like ROM Toolbox.

The beauty of having root is being able to remove "crapware". Just remove it yourself. Problem solved.
Viper ROM is a good start, it comes with most bloatware already deleted and Titanium backup already installed so you can pick and choose whatever else you want to delete. I would recommend using the gingerbread ROM to maximize on your battery since you are using it for a multimedia device.
aosp. they dont come with any bloatware. Agrabren (i think thats how its spelled) has a CM9 rom with a working camera.

Does this ROM have everything that I asked about working such as camera and HDMI?
I know some of these ROMs break certain features, a common one that goes by-by with these is HDMI out.
Also how do I know what can be frozen without bad consequences? I froze apps on an Infuse once, ones that were even specifically stated as not being needed, and the whole interface dissappeared rendering the phone unuseable. I had to go into download mode and re-flash the whole thing and set up from scratch. That was a hassle and time waster.
I would just install a stable ass rom like MeanRom and then use Titanium backup to uninstall or freeze all the crap you don't want.
Mikvirgin all day. Sooo smoothh

I came from a blackberry where gutting the os is a way of life.
What all can be removed without affecting function, while freeing up space?
So far, from system/apps, I have dropped most of the live wallpapers and apps I don't use
I have tried deleting ringtones I don't use but that put me into a boot loop and had to wipe and reload.
Any ideas on how to safely delete more useless files?
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk 2
it really doesn't gain you anything other than a placebo effect if you are used to devices with less than sufficient memory. The Dx2 has lots of memory and CM9 doesn't come with bloatware.

Really?
From what I have already cleaned up I can tell a difference is less lock ups already. The available ram went from 86% used to 69%
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk 2
Freezing some apps will free RAM, especially on services you don't use if those apps run by default. However the live wallpaper apk is not running if you aren't using one from that package, therefore it is redundant. If you don't use corporate exchange, try freezing the email.apk and the exchange.apk. If you feel adventurous, nandroid your cm9 and freeze all the apps that don't look important. If you get stuck with a bootloop, simply nandroid back. Simple.
I recommend freezing RomManager (we can't use it).
It wont free up RAM, but it will stop Google Play from updating it.

What I have been doing is each morning I freeze one app, I use my phone all day and if there are no problems I delete it the next morning and freeze a new one.
So far I think I've done some good with my phone since I have deleted everything I can from the system folder.
The trick to deleting ringtones is confirm all profiles are set to the same ringer and notification. Then delete all the others.

Well then you have done something amazing, since the Android memory manage strives to keep RAM around 80% full all the time, by design and that's how it works best. If you remove every single app you should be able to achieve around 90% free and everything should run like liquid butter. And yes, this Alpha is more stable if you do not touch the phone or run anything.

Grab a 50lbs weight and go run up a hill. Now do it again with 20lbs. What's easier running with more useless weight or less?
I loaded a task manager widget that shows percentage of memory used (ram) i went from 60/404 to 123/404 after dropping useless files.
With all due respect the Android OS is nothing more than an Iphone with Blackberry problems. I have used all 3 i like Droid best but it has room for improvement, as everything does.
Im applying what i learned from the BBos to this one and it appears to work. Now you can be a negative fly on the wall all you want but someone else will read this topic and try it. Once a few do it and my results are duplicated you'll see it was useful to try something
Plus what's the worst that happens, you boot loop and have to reload?
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk 2
Just a little check in.
I booted up this morning at 193/404 that's using 52% ram
I took everything out of system/apps i could and cleaned any app off my phone i don't or can't use. I also enabled "long hold back button to kill apps" instead of jumping back to the home screen when im done in an app i kill it.
All the above are habits i learned to service on a blackberry.
I wish more people would try and get my results.
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk 2
with all due respect unless you have rewritten the Android OS, it simply doesn't work like that.
. Android likes to keep memory about 70-80 % full once it settles so that when it needs a task you were using before its faster to reactivate it than to load from scratch. You can kill things, but the OS will load them again anyway. If you fight that with 3rd party mem / task managers, it will degrade performance, not improve it. But if you insist on believing some fantasy about memory management. by all means ....
Maybe im wording this wrong.
Would it help if i changed the title to gutting an android.
I love CM9, ive even bought the developer a case of beer. Hahaha
Im not doubting what the system wants to do. Im just trying to guide it better by removing worthless files and managing ram with white and black lists.
For example I dont need dropbox to be running in the background when im not using it.
Make sense

You will notice a big Jump in performance if you stop using a task manager.
You are better off playing with min free values and oom adj values.
I understand removing apps and files you don't use, I.do the same thing on my nexus.
But when it comes down to it, the task manager app is REALLY doing more harm than good. Of course when you use the task manager its going to seem like its doing what you want it to, thats how the apps are written, so that you FEEL like you're getting results you want.
Fact is, task managers haven't been needed in android OS for a log time now. Most ESPECIALLY if you are running an ICS based rom.
Trust me, if you wanna see an increase in overall smoothness, mess with min free and oom settings, and dump the task manager.
Or just keep doing what you're doing, just don't get offended when almost everyone tells you that clearing apps from memory and using task manager to kill apps is doing more harm then good.
There is a HUGE difference between an app RUNNING in background, and an app being cached in RAM. If you go to your manage apps list in settings and go to running apps, you most likely won't have many apps actually running and hogging system resources. If you switch to the cached tab you SHOULD see lots of apps in cache. Which means next time you open them it will open faster and use A LOT LESS CPU to get it going.
I do agree with getting rid of appd and files you don't use tho. I have ALWAYS felt that removing apps that are cached in ram that I do not use, will give more space for apps that I DO use to be cached.
But a task manager will not grant you that ability.
I feel like i learned something new today

I also just wanna apologize, I didnt mean to come off condescending (I just re read what I posted Lol)
was just trying to inform a bit.
Any questions don't hesitate to ask. Android operates like.Linux, but not EXACTLY like Linux even tho it is VERY similar. A good thread to read on how is memory management works is the official v6supercharger thread started by zeppelinrox. That guy has torn thru the android os on the memory management level and his first few posts in that thread(even tho they may not make the most sense to you at first) have a LOT of valuable info in them.

Did you also turn on the option.in v6supercharger for the nitro lag nullifier also? It used to be option #20 i believe.
I always did and i swear, (placebo or not), it used to smooth out everything even more.
Then on top of v6, i would also run Kick ass kernelizer(KAK) with. I/O tweaks implemented (make a nandroid first just in case it bootloops ya..if it bootloops just pull battery and.put back in then plug phone into wall,.it will.boot BSR(since our bsr hijacks charge.mode) & you can restore nandroid) and it would be even more buttery.
Enjoy!
I'm glad I could help turn you away from task managers/killers
Your Android experience should improve greatly

I am running Gingeritis 3D v1.2 on my Thunderbolt and am having issues...
There has always been an issue with the sound enhancements that this ROM includes (Beats Audio, Dolby, SRS), so sometimes you had to dirty flash the ROM a few times for it to carry over all the files to prevent it from force closing when choosing between music sound effects.
After I made a backup for this ROM, it goes right back to having the force closes when selecting the effects button. Any ideas why?
Also my video stopped working. Any ideas on why that too?
I know this can be fixed with a simple reflash, but God knows I don't want to set everything back up again for it to eventually do the same thing again. I've also run a permission fix and it doesn't do any good.
Any other ROM recommendations that include Beats and SRS? Dolby was nice, but I've never heard of another ROM including all three enhancements.
I've always ran Gingeritis 3D because, for some reason, its always been the most stable on my phone and I really like how customizable it is.
