Keep loosing 3G connectivity - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
This might be specific to my provider(Airtel) or city (Bangalore, India) so please excuse me for sending to such a wide audience. But I hope its specific to phone and there is a solution.
I keep loosing my 3g connectivity on this phone. It comes and goes and has now basically become a reliability issue. Most of the times I need to deactivate the data network mode and activate it back.
Has anyone else also noticed this?

It's because where you live 3G service is unstable, same with me also, it goes back to H+.
Regards.

or maybe you should try and change your modem.
try flashing KH1 or KH3, see if it matters..

Thanks for the responses. If its related to network, I guess I don't have a choice. About flashing the ROM, I have not yet rooted the phone and lies is still on KF3, so guess I will wait for the next update and hope things will improve.

I had some similar problems here in The Netherlands... I use a provider that is 'roaming' on another provider's network (for those who are familiar: I use Telfort, which roams on the KPN network).
The current CSC I have in my phone, is a specific CSC for The Netherlands (XENKE1). However, it keeps losing 3G connectivity over time, and I also need to reset the connection to get it back working.
For now I can solve this issue by manually selecting the operator instead of automatic operator selection. You might want to try this, it worked for me at least.

Thanks gscjot. Your solution seems to have worked. In last 20 odd hours I had to manually restart the 3g service only once. So I guess this is actually not a issue with the phone itself but the operator. Thanks a lot.

It might have something to do with the modem or CSC that is in the phone. I am currently on stock 2.3.3 but I tried Darky's rom as well (on 2.3.4). As this ROM has a different CSC, I could leave the network detection on automatic. Only setback then, is that the phone shows 'r' (roaming) on my home network and I have to manually disable 3G when I go abroad.
Best regards,
Gerco

I am using tata docomo connection india when I download anything from market or anywhere else the downloads stop as soon as I stop parallel browsing, so I tried downloading songs while pinging yahoo using pinging app some users are experiencing same problem please help me out

Hmm, NL-KPN here with Polish CSC (OXA, don't ask me why, bought it in NL) but I stream internet radio on my way to work in the car for 70 km without losing connection once, and that includes 2 long tunnels.
All stock KG5 with only cf-root.

Still no relief

Hi,
Can anyone on 2.3.4 comment if they see the same issue as mentioned here. I am again back to my struggling ways and starting to believe that is this a software only issue and courtesy SAMSUNG.
Thanks,
Vishal

[Q] CM7 - Service / Data Connectivity Issue

Hey, everyone. Using your AMAZING n00b guide and overall lurking of this website for several months since January I've done quite a few awesome things with this phone. Currently I am running Cyanogen Mod 7.1.0-Ba2tF-Olympus (any further information how I got there can be provided if necessary). I'm having a slight issue though. I've noticed that sometimes I'll randomly have no data or cellular service what-so-ever. To gain access to data and cellular service at that point I will then have to restart the phone, wait for it to boot, turn on WiFi, wait for that to connect, use an application like Browser or Facebook to test connectivity, if data transmits then I'm good, then AND ONLY after I go through all that can I disable WiFi and connect through regular data and cellular channels. I was wondering if this has happened to any of you and if anyone had any idea on how to fix it?
If you need clarification I'd be more than happy to try and sort my explanation out for you.
Thank you all in advance and I hope to hear from you soon!
Hello,
Did your APN settings are good ?
You can found it there : Setting / networks / Mobile Networks / Access Point Name.
Where are you from, what is your carrier ?
Regards.
I am thinking you need to flash a new radio.

[Q] GPS messing with Internet navigation

Gents,
I have come accross the weirdest issue I have found on a phone. I have recently acquired an AT&T SGS II and I am using it in Argentina (rooted and unlocked) with Movistar (this is just FYI).
I am having a problem that is driving me nuts...there are times when I lose the ability to navigate the internet. Meaning I have internet connectivity, and can use other internet enabled apps (Market, Speedtest, Maps) but can't get any browser to respond (stock, Dolphin, Opera). This happens only on 3G data, wi-fi works well always.
I have narrowed the problem to the GPS. Whenever I use the GPS with Maps or GPS status, or anything that turns on the GPS, I can't use browsers anymore. I have to either restart or disable and re-enable packet data, this solves the problem until I use the GPS again...
I am running stock UCKH7 with the UCKH7 modem...the only thing I have done is rooted, unlocked the phone and added CWM..
Any ideas?

Sounds similar to the CM7 market data issues on the Infuse.
Does Movistar use a different APN for SUPL?

No, not really. I used to own a Captivate and hadn't seen the option to select a specific SUPL APN.
I have just tried using two different APNs (internet and SUPL) but that didn't work either...
Is there a better modem for your carrier/region?

I have tried KJ1, KJ2, KJ4, KH7 and KK6.
All present the same problem...
What is strange is that this happens only to internet browsing, all other internet enabled apps work without issues.

If your provider only uses a single APN, I don't know what is happening.
Dual APNs should be avoided unless you can't - mainly if your provider requires them. (like AT&T - one for most Internet stuff and one for SUPL and MMS)

Movistar uses two APNs, one for internet and the other for MMS. I don't think there is one for SUPL. I will double check.
Perhaps this will be solved in my next ROM update....who knows!

HTC Titan Wifi/3G and Live services

I've spend over a month trying to battle the issues with not able to use Live services and Marketplace over the 3G connection.
I've been back and forth with plenty of hard resets adviced by Zune support - no change.
I've been back and forth with plenty of hard resets adviced by WinPhone support - no change.
I've even swapped SIM cards - no help.
Issue:
You can't download apps/music or stream music using 3G. On wifi it works fine.
Reason:
HTC WiFi bug goes deeper than we think. It's not just being or not being able to run 3G and WiFi together or low WiFi signal. But if you at times try and download or ugrade using WiFi and use 2G mode at the same time - you will get this. As soon as you switch from 2g to 3g and switch off wifi - nothing will download off your marketplace.
Solution:
I've reproduced it many many times. However, it will only happen if your SIM doesn't have APN settings on it i.e. non-contract phones using certain pay as you go networks i.e. Tesco, Lyca, Giffgaff, Talktalk
When you go 2g/3g swapping and use wifi - the phone forgets your APN settings. Once you switch to 3g, go to APN settings, edit your password by writing your password again and save it. Restart phone. Now your 3g will work again. You have to do this every time you use combo of wifi/2g or sometimes even when using wifi and then switching to 3g.
Moan:
I've contacted HTC, they don't care, they think it doesn't exist. They want my phone to be sent for repairs. I am not doing it as I have only one phone. I know HTC won't even acknowledge the earlier Wifi bug. But luckily we have workarouns.
Have you tried running the HTC connection setup to see if that resolves the situation in some way?

Yes I did that too. But HTC connection setup settings are forgotten as soon as you swap away from 3g. So everytime I come back to 3g, I have to re-fresh my APNs manually and restart! - such a pain.
thanks....

Slow internet - But Speedtest results good.

Hi there,
I'm getting a strange issue with internet connectivity on my SGS3.
It's still the stock firmware. However, it's rooted with the Siyah kernel to counter the audio crackle issue.
The problem is the speed. my XDA forum app, gmail and most of all Google Play store time out, yet on speedtest i'm getting 5+mbps down and 2mbps up. The browser performance is ok when this issue occurs, but certainly not 5mbps good. The issue only presents on HSDPA, and is not so bad on WiFi.
Should I flash to a new rom? Is there an issue with Siyah and the stock firmware?
Confused!
The reason why you time out might be due to an unstable internet connection, however I'm not sure how it would affect you through network data.

Please check :
- Is the DNS Server slow?
Try using an App in the market to change the DNS Server to e.g. the Google IP's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)
- Does your APN use a proxy? (Is it required?)
Maybe the proxy-server is overloaded. An alternative for testing is to use a VPN
- When the issue appears; does it go from H/H+ to 3G and then back to H/H+? Or are there extreme changes in signal bars?
That means you've been moved to another antenna or receiver on the same antenna. Try another modem.
However take care only to use modems coming from firmwares with the same letter as your firmware has at the 4th-last position
(Eg: BLFB firmware requires BLFB modem or newer)
My timeout issue (with which I've been plagued at the beginngin) got far better when I removed the Proxy in the APN settings and disappeared on BLFB -based firmware (Omega 8.0/8.1) with the asian DXLF3 modem.

Thank you so much for your quick response!
I've added the DNS app. Hopefully I get some good results. I'm on Australia's "premium" network, but have noticed that lately in the last 6 months or so, their performance vastly slipping. Mostly due to congestion from people migrating from other networks.
The reception is always full. Even in lifts, so that's a bonus. It's just that their throughput is a little dicey in peak times. During the lunch period in the central business district, i'm lucky to get a google search to load.
There is no proxy settings in the APN. So i guess congestion might very well be the case. I was just confused as the speedtest showed that the speed was pretty good..
Thanks again for your quick and helpful response!

Galaxy S3 Network Bug on reconnect [SOLVED]

Hey there fellas,
I tried to find something on the forums regarding this matter, but I found a very annoying bug/habit. I'm currently on InsertCoin 2.3.1 and tried a wide variety of modem firmwares, but when I'm in areas where I have a very bad signal (in the gym's basement, for example), I completely lose connection to my network provider from time to time. Sometimes, when my device is reconnecting, it cannot reestablish a mobile data connection. When this happens, I can't make or receive calls either, even though the signal bar shows a valid connection!
In a nutshell: After losing signal, the device seems to reconnect to the provider network, but not properly. Can't make phone calls, can't send or receive SMS, only indicator for this is the missing mobile data connection icon. Only a restart resolves this problem, but I'm not happy with restarting my phone multiple times a day!
Here are some topics that seem similar to my problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782204&highlight=losing+signal
http://www.samsunggalaxys3forum.com.../1214-losing-connection-cellular-network.html
As I said, I already tried different modem firmwares, always with the same result. Can anybody help me with that matter?

I have the same issue.. at first I thought it was due to the crappy network provider .. however I tried putting my sim in my old Nokia e5 and got decent signal strength even in areas where the s3 was unable to connect to the network. I faced the same problem even in stock ROM updated to latest version available for my region.
Any help would be much appreciay .

I used to have this problem with my stock ICS rom, exactly the same situation you described. Can't make any call after coming out from a tube.
I9300XXDLJ4 (4.1.1) is all good in reconnecting the signal.

Okay, after a few days of testing and trying to get a bad signal on purpose, it seems that setting up the CSC did the trick for me. After flashing InsertCoin, I had a French CSC. So I switched it to Germany and now the reconnect issues seem to be gone! There is a very handy CSC switching tool for free in the Playstore, but be careful, your ROM must support MultiCSC and switching the CSC wipes your internal memory!
