Gents,
I have come accross the weirdest issue I have found on a phone. I have recently acquired an AT&T SGS II and I am using it in Argentina (rooted and unlocked) with Movistar (this is just FYI).
I am having a problem that is driving me nuts...there are times when I lose the ability to navigate the internet. Meaning I have internet connectivity, and can use other internet enabled apps (Market, Speedtest, Maps) but can't get any browser to respond (stock, Dolphin, Opera). This happens only on 3G data, wi-fi works well always.
I have narrowed the problem to the GPS. Whenever I use the GPS with Maps or GPS status, or anything that turns on the GPS, I can't use browsers anymore. I have to either restart or disable and re-enable packet data, this solves the problem until I use the GPS again...
I am running stock UCKH7 with the UCKH7 modem...the only thing I have done is rooted, unlocked the phone and added CWM..
Any ideas?

Sounds similar to the CM7 market data issues on the Infuse.
Does Movistar use a different APN for SUPL?

No, not really. I used to own a Captivate and hadn't seen the option to select a specific SUPL APN.
I have just tried using two different APNs (internet and SUPL) but that didn't work either...

I have tried KJ1, KJ2, KJ4, KH7 and KK6.
All present the same problem...
What is strange is that this happens only to internet browsing, all other internet enabled apps work without issues.

If your provider only uses a single APN, I don't know what is happening.
Dual APNs should be avoided unless you can't - mainly if your provider requires them. (like AT&T - one for most Internet stuff and one for SUPL and MMS)

Movistar uses two APNs, one for internet and the other for MMS. I don't think there is one for SUPL. I will double check.
Perhaps this will be solved in my next ROM update....who knows!

Yesterday, I successfully updated to android 2.1. I have confirmed that the APN information is correct and that there is sufficient network coverage. I have activated data in the settings - yet I cannot seem to get a data connection. Unless I activate WIFI, neither facebook nor mail will update, and I also cannot open websites in several browsers (opera, fennec, standard browser, dolphin).
I also don't get an icon for 3g or hsdpa connection.
Anyone having the same problem? Or even better... a solution?
Best,
-Mike

I would say it's your carriers networks are down. I had a similar problem but the 3G symbol was there and it just would download anything. I then disabled juice defender and it works perfectly.
If you are running the nordic kit this seems to be a fairly common problem. One of the guys over at phandroid fixed this by going to the SIM Toolkit and downloading settings, but I did not have this option. I was able to get it working temporarily by fiddling with the APN settings, but then like you it just failed to work any more.
I have flashed back to 1.6 and am now going to update with generic uk firmware.
So - I tried the Sony Ericsson option in the settings (topmost menu entry) to automatically download settings, I tried setting them manually, I tried auto-configuring via the apn-options... nothing worked...
then, suddenly, without having changed anything - I get a 3G signal. Seems to have sorted itself out for whatever reason. Will update in case anything changes.

Worked for me.
I am running DJ Steves 1.5.3 and for some reason I can only get onto the internet via wifi.
I have checked the APN settings and they are correct (which for my carrier, is there should be no settings or proxies), and have turned on all of the boxes re enabling data etc.
With the wifi turned off, and the toggle switch for data turned on, when I go into a browser it doesn't connect.
Is there another setting somewhere restricting the mobile data connection.
I must admit that as far as the icons in the status bar, I have never seen either G, 3G or H on it since moving over to DJ Steves ROMs. Is there something there disabled?
I am using the Miren browser if it makes any difference.
For starters. If your not seeing any of the mobile connectivity signals then you have no mobile network. This just started happening all of a sudden or after you flashed dj steves rom?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I never used the Streak with original Froyo as I flashed it as soon as I got it, so I dont know.
It has configured itself from my network provider, and looking at their settings it seems that it has downloaded them correctly.
On my HTC Desire running 2.2 I didnt have an issue at all. I am now wondering if it is something related to the ROM as you read on here about all sort of features that work for some and not for others.
dont believe it, APN setting wrong, a dot was missing in IP address
sorted.

Do a simple device reset, another user had the same issue and it was fixed after preforming the reset. Good Luck.
does this work for anyone? i have never been able to on my 101
I have no problems connecting to my unsecured network at home (don't worry, there's only maybe five houses on my street that could even reach it!) How far can you get in connecting? For example, will it see the network when you scan? Will it fail when you try to select it? Will it select, but not have a web connection?

Never had a single issue. Are you sure it's not Adhoc or something? What channel is the AP?
i've been unable since i first bought it... and ive updated firmware and done full restores before.
it connects fine but doesn't actually have internet once it does. happened on a few different networks but most notably would be my phone when i made it a hotspot it would work fine if i put a password on but wont if i do it unsecured

I have to reconnect to my phone sometimes when using hotspot, seems like the routing breaks every once in a while, but I connect to multiple unsecured networks(actually using radius auth, but that won't change anything) on a regular basis. Sorry, I can't really think of anything that would cause that even after reformatting. I'd start looking at the dmesg logs for an error.
As the topic says my HMJ37 P7500XKWG9 will not sync (or even connect) to exchange over wifi.
Using stock email app with Exchange 2010.
As soon as I switch wifi off, sync starts working. This only happens with the stock app, everything else works perfectly fine over both wifi and 3g.
Multiple wipes and resets did not help.
I am thinking this is a bug in samsung software but would like to hear if anyone else has this problem before I start flashing random other firmware versions...
Is your Exchange server on the same network as your wi-fi connetion? Sounds like you have a networking problem.

It's not a networking problem.

You didn't answer my question.
What I mean by networking problem is that if you accessing the Exchange server that is on the same network as wi-fi, the server name/IP address might be different than that of access via 3G/internet. For the email client, 3G or wi-fi shouldn't make any difference. So I doubt it is a software bug. Rather a network configuration issue.
Similar issue
My stock widget is not updating correctly with my WiFi only tab 10.1. We are using '07 exchange and since I updated the Touch Wiz U/I this past weekend my email widget will get stuck on an email. New ones come in but the old ones don't move down to make way for the new ones. If I open the widget the new ones are there, just a PIA to open the widget to see what's new. I'm running stock. Not sure if there is a setting I'm not seeing to have it work the way it did pre Touch Wiz??
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Because if it's accessible on 3G, it's accessible on any wifi properly connected to internet. Besides, no other mail program (touchdown, moxier) has problems on wifi...
Does anyone with this firmware actually have stock exchange sync working on wifi?

I have the exact same problem. Syncs via 3G but not WiFi. When first setting up the Exchange account, I could not get it to even connect to the server via WiFi. After I switched off WiFi and tried 3G, it setup fine.
I have 2 iPhones, one iPad and several PCs on the same wireless network and they all have zero problems so it has to be specific to the 10.1.
Galaxy Tab P7500 XXKG7
The same problem. Few days after purchase I use Exchange (3G, WiFi) and was happy.... but after full reboot and clearing all date, Exchange sync only through 3G. No sync with WiFi.
So now I use two Exchange accounts (corporate and Google) with 3G connection, because no sync with WiFi.
Do you have any ideas?
Different access point, different Exchange servers, correct settings ... but same problem: no sync with WiFi!
No, I am out of ideas. I tested two other email programs - Moxier and Touchdown, both of which work perfectly over WiFi and 3G. So I purchased Touchdown.
I have tested with two different Exchange servers and get the same problem so it cannot be Exchange specific.
It must be a bug in the Honeycomb email software.
I find it very odd because essentially the email client just makes network calls and what sort of network connection is used should be completely transparent to the software.

It was not Honeycomb bug only.... because I find several similar posts on other forums connections with Android 2.2.3, 2.3

Is that right. Pretty fundamental impact on functionality so I would have thought it would get top priority for a hotfix.
OTOH there must be 10.1 owners out there who have it working, otherwise it would be all over the net. Maybe it affects the 3G model only.
Have you tested on more than one WiFi network?

Hi! I solve this problem.
1. took out SIM card
2. Full reset.
3. Insert SIM card again.
Everything works well!
After them come the think, may be enough took out SIM and re-setting. But now I have well good sink Exchange over WiFi and 3G.
Hi!
Did that, and it worked right until I have inserted back the SIM card and activated the 3G settings. Then it also started working only on 3G. Very strange. May be something with operators?

It not a operator problem, I think. I checked 3G Utel Ukraine and EGPRS Beeline Russia. That the same resalts. So I think it is Android 3,1 problem.
Also, about full reset. . . It is not necessary. Took out SIM and restart onle needed.
Right, ashot, but did it work afterwards? For me it stopped when I activated 3G again.
I don't usually like to push or sell apps on people but I would just pay the money and buy Touchdown mostly because its fast, reliable and secure. It works the same way Outlook 2010 works and it keeps you more organized just like outlook. Plus they sync really nice together if your using ActiveSync on your exchange server, which you better be if your a good IT SYS Admin.
I would do it, if there was no preinstalled software. But there is one, and I just want to get it working.
Imagine telling that to an iPad owner.

Pre-installed doesn't always mean good. Example being the iPad. Nothing pre-installed on their is any good and I tell iPad owners that almost daily, sadly.

After applying the fix for Hotspot settings to save in another thread (chown and chmod the /data/misc/wifi) I tried to turn on the hotspot, after all, this was inevitably what I got the phone for, H+ Hotspot.
Now I turn it on and the network appears in my computer, but if I try and connect to it, after I type in the security key, it comes up with "Connecting" and just stays like that permanently...
Eventually it sometimes says "Limited Access".
My phone does have internet connection, but why does it not work.
Does your network allow tethering?
Did it work on another rom?
Have you tried a hard reset?
I'm using tethering on VR but with speedmod kernel with no issues.

Orange in the UK for example use and APN on their SGS2 roms that doesn't allow tethering (you can set up a tethering connection no problem, but the network won't let you have any data).
They also lock the APN down so it isn't editable (insert rude word about Orange)!
You can get round the problem by adding another generic APN for all connections and using that.
i was having the same problem and struggled alll these days for solution. I used to get limited acesses and hence checked the ip4 & ip6 drivers connectivity for solution with no luck.
Then clicked on windows update, after update everything started working. So try to update your windows.
presently i am on turkbey ROM and it is working and also checked with sensation 1.9 and here tooo works!!!!!
Hey all, thanks for all your replies.
Network: 3
Plan: The One Plan +Tethering
Resolved: Yes.
For anyone else wondering how I fixed my problem:
1) Rebooted the phone
2) Rebooted my PC
3) Turned off the WiFi Adapter in my PC
4) Turned it Back On
5) Turned off WiFi on phone
6) Turned Hotspot on without any authentication
7) Worked on PC
8) Changed back to WPA2 PSK
9) Worked with Key.

I had wifi tethering working fine on Orange with SGS running Froyo 2.2.1, but have just upgraded my handset to SGS2 running Gingerbread 2.3.5 (stock XWKI8 firmware), and wifi tethering isn't working now.
As far as I can see I have exactly the same APN settings in my new SGS2 as in the old SGS, but maybe I need to use this new trick.
What do you mean by "adding another generic APN for all connections and using that"? If I add a new APN, what settings do I put in?
Thanks.
