[Q] RDP for webOS / Touchpad - TouchPad General

I need to remote into my work but there is no RDP APP. The VPN works but what good does that do me if I can't connect into my work PC, or our servers. Anyone know if RDP is being developed for Webos?

From what I can find Splashtop should be releasing a application for WebOS, but it doesn't look like they have. Other then Splashtop, it doesn't look like their is a good way unless you want to VNC into a machine and launch RDP through that machine's session.

I'd hope somebody (devs) sees an opportunity here...

I agree. It's funny that now that I finally have a device with native Cisco AnyConnect support, it doesn't have any RDP application!
Hopefully something will be created soon.

I'm waiting for this as well.

Same here. I'd easily pay 15-20 bucks for an app like Android's Xtralogic RDP client.

I would pay as well.

Should we turn this into a bounty thread? If this had RDP, I'd never go back to my desk again. As is, the Touchpad has already made me 200% more mobile at work.

Seriously, I would pay real money for a VNC (1st choice) or RDP (2nd) client that works. There is a VNC client free on the HP appstore but it doesn't support (or work at all on) the Touchpad. I have emailed the dev but his site is all German and I don't know if he will understand.

This is the main reason I am needing android so badly... At this point no client for RDP exists, as far as I can tell. We desperately need WYSE pocketcloud, which also does VNC, and I doubt they port that app to webOS

iTap works really well for Android and iPad, I wonder if they would develop an app for Webos?

I'm tempted to write one myself lol!

I was able to do it by installing ubuntu on the device and then just installing rdesktop in ubuntu. It should use the existing VPN connection that you have and you should be able to connect. I was able to use the same setup to create a SSH RDP tunnel to my home computer.
There's a bunch of tutorials on how to install ubuntu on the Touchpad.

Gnome-RDP is very nice on Debian Squeeze64. I download Cisco Anyconnect client from Stheir site via CCO login. Very nice.
Now I'm looking for just an RDP client for my HP Touchpad so I can access my work PC. IPSEC using native VPNC (not VNC) works pretty good. It is very nice. Very fast connection viewing our protected web server.
In the meantime I'll look for a way to run a terminal (or xterm), then use telnet or openSSH from the Touchpad.

I got an answer from the guy who wrote the only VNC client for WebOS I know of (current version doesn't work on tablet). He is a very nice German fellow named Bernard Slawik. Here is his answer when I asked if he could update for Touchpad.
Hi,
I don't have a TouchPad, so I can't really develop for it
If it get's available again (I heard something yesterday), I hope it will become available in Europe as well!
Greetings from Munich,
Bernhard
Anybody in Germany/Eastern EU have a Touchpad we can hook Bernhard up with?

for those looking for a remote deskop app, there you go: http://signup.splashtop.com/
Splashtop app coming

I got an e-mail from WYSE today, makers of pocket cloud. No good news though:
Hi David,
With the latest HP announcements we currently have no plans to create a WebOS version.
Sorry for the bad news

If you're looking for a straight up RDP, the Xtralogic client is good, stable, and fast. Of course, the full one is also expensive, so take that for what it's worth.

+1 for xtralogic... I use it all the time and love the full screen view.
swyped from my Vegan 'flavored' Gtab...
Another +1 for Xtralogic. Use it and PhoneMyPC quite a bit. Both work well, but Xtralogic is a bit more impressive. PMPC will connect to multiple PC's though.

PocketCloud
I've been using PocketCloud Free rom Wyse. Seems to work fine for RDP to Windows machines.
Logmein Ignition,
It's pricey though
TeamViewer is working great for me and it's free for personal use. You get it from their website not the market.
+1 Xtralogic (paid version). Worth every cent.
Remote Desktop App
I'm going to try the Team Viewer and report back....it has worked GREAT for me laptop to other systems and didn't realize that it was available for the tab.
I've been using PC Remote Controller - but you have to be on the same WiFi network to use it.

Hi there! Which rom are you using. I'm using Calkulin's. I just installed the Pocketcloud and it does allow me to connect. But when I try to login, the keyboard does not pop for me, thus not allowing me to login.
Not sure what I'm missing.
I've got LogMeIn Ignition on my phone, gtab and 2 PCs and its awesome
I dont know about any of the others, but ive been a long time teamviewer supporter, have over 50 names on the list of regular repairs via phone or PC.
seriously, team view is sooooooo useful for me, all the time, everyday.
+1
+1 for LogMeIn Ignition. It's got all the features as TeamViewer and costs $29.99 compared to $749 for a single TeamViewer license.
Of all the ones I've tried, XtraLogic is the best. The only downside is the app crashes frequently if I connect to a VirtualBox VM that has RDP enabled (not via OS, but via VirtualBox). Just letting you know before you shell out $$ for it. Hopefully they fix it soon. It would be nice if they had a trial version, but I can't seem to find one on the market.
Does anyone know if Remote RDP Lite or the paid version ($10) works on the G Tab? I use the free one on my phone and it works pretty well.
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.toremote.serversmanager&feature=search_result
Not only does Remote RDP work on the Gtab, but I use the paid version all the time and have found it to be the best RDP application on Android by a good margin.
That said, I hereby commit to jump ship to the first person who releases a client with RemoteFX.
Splashtop allows 3d and videos to be played.
Works fine here.

The keyboard on pocketcloud doesn't auto launch. You need to click the "settings" and click keyboard icon so you can log in.

does anyone have a working vnc?

I want to use my pc from my tablet to play runescape has anyone got any clue how?
The image quality/fps over a remote connection may not work too well for a flash game, but it might be playable. I have attempted vnc and remote desktop clients on android in the past, but my favorite is LogMeIn which is $30 in the market but has no monthly fee. LogMeIn works really well and gets around firewalls without any effort.

I use Vino (linux VNC server) on my netbook and access it using my Android devices using androidVNC. There's hardly any lag, and you could use that to play Runescape.
Both VNC and Team Viewer work wonderfully. I have both and regularly access my home pc with TV.

may help. They seem to use an vnc client called mocha (available on Market), and RealVNC on the windows machine. I haven't personally used this.
I use PocketCloud on the tablet with TightVNC server on the windows machine. The performance is good, but not good enough for games.

Remote software and Lapdock 100

I really do not know where to post this question, since it deals with the Lapdock 100 (Accessory), remote software (Apps), and is a question (Q&A). So I'll just put it here. If it belongs elsewhere mods feel free to move it.
has anyone used a remote software with the Photon and the Lapdock 100.
I'm trying to see if i can remotely connect to my home pc (Win 7) using the lapdock and really do not know if there is one app better than another. So far I used Pocket Cloud, but it only appears on the phone side and expanding that on the lapdock really isn't that easy to use. are there any web based ones that I can open up in firefox and connect.
So any suggestions would be great.
TS
Team Viewer seems to work for me. They have a free version for personal use. Additionally, if I'm reading things correctly, it can be used for PC to PC. I haven't tried that part of it yet.
I'm still using Splashtop that I purchased for the Evo Desktop. It doesn't support 16:9 and the HD version doesn't install on the mopho (may be a build prop mod).
Thanks guys, I will try these later tonight at home.
if any others, keep them coming.
TS out
I read that someone uses LogMeIn to control 5 dif machines.
Is there a linux app that would work on ubuntop or webtop plus to do this?

Added to the UbunTop todo list.
Logmein
The free Logmein works perfect. Also MobilePCMonitor works great and is free for three PCs.

Splashtop Remote Desktop

The Free app of the Day on Amazon is "Splashtop Remote Desktop"
The app is supposed to let you link to a computer and access an files or programs on that machine.
The app seems like it might be useful but I would like to get your feedback on it.
(I am not associated at all with this app or its developer, I just thought it was neat and would like to get more opinions on it)
Thanks!

It requires that you install a client on your machine to use. I would recommend using the built-in RDP for Windows. There are many free RDP clients out for android that work, such as 2X, and do the same thing without installing extra.
If you are using a mac check out the computer specs because it only works on lion. I use jump and love it

While reading the reviews listed for the Amazon Appstore for Splashtop, something that struck me as concerning was the lack of encryption. The reviewer did a great deal of research and said that Splashtop should have it available, though not when that date will come.
Personally, I use the free version of Pocket Cloud from Wyse for my remote desktop needs. It works well and uses your Google account information for logging in.
I've used Pocket Cloud and Splashtop on OS X Snow Leopard, so the poster saying it only works on Lion is wrong. Splashtop's encryption is loose to speed the program up. Splashtop is great for accessing your computer from your own LAN but insecure if you are on another network. Splashtop is cool, might as well give it a try, but I prefer Pocket Cloud overall.
my bad

app for controlling desktop with phone

so i did a search but i'm not really sure how this category of app works. im basically looking for an app that will let me do stuff on the desktop, through my phone. for example, i could be lying on the bed, and i use my phone to open a page on the desktop and play some music(through the desktop speakers). is this even possible?
Team viewer

perfectly possible with a droid
you need a wif though.
The best app I would say is win remote. It needs an apk to be installed from play store and a small app to be installed on your pc. the rest is simple

that is the name of the app....
Enjoy and say thaks
SplashTop is pretty good as well
as long as you have a google account and you register it, you can actually connect to your PC through 3g network anywhere. I feel that it's kind of hard to use at the moment, but they are coming out with a new version soon so hope that helps.

For simple control, there's always VNC (and there's definitely at least one viewer for Android). If you're still running GNOME, it had (has? I don't know about GNOME 3 *shudder*) an integrated VNC server in the form of Vinagre. Else there's x11vnc. Unlike with Team Viewer, though, you get to have the fun of port forwarding etc. yourself if you wish to use it to control your computer outside of your home network.
Log me in is by far the superior alternative. Multiple PC's from anywhere.
