Big Problems after changing audio settings in service mode :( :( - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
as written in another thread i have serious BT HEadset Problems since e few weeks, my opponent cant hear me but i can hear him. Thought this was a firmware iussue..
Today i remembered, that i made some changes in service mode to improve the volume of Headphone and BT Audio and that this could be the problem...??!!
So i tried to enter the values which other GS2 users have in theire phones, but no effort, it went worse, now i even cant hear my opponent.
I hear the start "Bing" and the sound of the dialpad, the hang-up sound, but no spoken word..
Problem seems to be, that the changings i made in service mode aren't saved correctly, every time i enter the service mode, it shows diffrent values for the gain parts..
Here the actuall settings:
service Mode *#*#197328640#*#*
5 Audio => 1 NB (Voice Call) => 4 Bluetooth => 1 Volume
actual Values:
1 SRC Speech RX Volume (all internal Values = 82)
2 DST I2S1 TX Volume (all internal values = 82)
3 SRC I3S1 RX Volume: 98
4 DST Speech TX Volume 94
5 sidetone: 0x64a4
6 I2S1 Rx Gain: 0x64a4
7 I2S1 TX Gain: 0x64a4
Today i tried to change the last 3 values, those are diffrent to users i've asked.
They have 0X0 on all 3 Values.
If i try to enter 0x0 (menu Button => Key Input) then it shows the right 0x0. If i leave service menu and come back, another value is written here (like the 0X64a4 which i've never seen before nor entered it!)
Same if i try to enter only "0" or "ffff" or "7fff" (which stands für 4dB i've read somewhere)..
What can i try or do to get the BT Headset working again???????
greetings
johho

Some crack here who has an idea how to enter the settings correctly????

i've already tryed this, seems that changes in service Mode aren't affected from wiping or erasing data nor depending from installed ROM.

I'm having the same big issue.

mhm... i've tryed again... it seems that... EDIT: i didn't solve the problem, thought i had, but wrong...
After Wiping and reflashing, the BT Headset works again, but my opponents say that im totally to loud..
Back in Service Menu the value for Gain is 0xffff, after going back to main menu and reenter volume menu it shows 0x32.. Values are changing again..
damm it..

The thing that's confusing me is that the values are changing permanently.
After reboot I enter Service Mode, Audio/BT, here's the value on 5&6&7 0X61a4.
if I choose back from menu one time, and reenter Volume, the value of 5&6&7 is "0x32".
This 0X32 keeps from now on, until next reboot.
Very strange thing..
no matter which value i've entered, the value must keep the same even after reboot, not changing every time i enter the menu, does it?
I dont know whats going wrong here...
Would be soooo happy if one Service Mode crack could help us...

Noone who's a service mode specialist?

Exactly same problem...
I have exactly the same problem....
I did also change some things in the service menu and now I have no sound during a phone call through my car kit (parrot MKi9200).
However if I connect the phone with my Jabra earpiece everything works fine. The sound is actually a bit to loud.
What I notice is that my car kit connects with a "headphone" icon and the Jabra with a "handset" icon.
The Jabra Earpiece is working fine. Two other phones (Samsung Chat & Samsung Gio) are working fine.
I also checked the SGS2 of a collegue, who's phone is untouched by custom rom's and never rooted. Als here the values are changing. I checked the values in his phone and typed them in my phone.....but still no sound during a phone call.
I don't think a wipe will restore the correct values. I dit try a lot of rom's, rooted and non-rooted. Nothing works.
And actuali the values are changing if I go in a menu setting - go back - and go in the menu again.
What I (we) need is a good manual of the service menu.
I hope someone can sort this out and wil have a solution for this anoying problem.

I still have not found a solution to this!!

its absolutly amazing that the values seem to change on every device, even "untouched" ones...
So it cloud be that we only need the right value to enter or the right method to enter it to get back our original settings...
Dam it no service center aployee or samsung crack here who's able to give us some hints???

Going to test my SGS2 on another car kit today
I'm going to test my SGS2 on another car kit today: a Parrot CK3100 LCD
.... I will report soon...

SOLVED! SOLVED! SOLVED! Car kit working perfect now. Audio Perfect!
Problem solved .... see my thread:

Thank you very much mate!!! You are great!!!
It works really well for me.
I have to say, however, thath I have exactly the same car kit (parrot MKi9200).

Thanks equinox1979... no problem. I'm glad that it works also for your SGS2 with Parrot.
Did you already upgrade your Parrot to the latest version? I did, still works fine.
P.S. Are you a Jarre fan due to your name?

No, I didn't. I have some little problems with Parrot wiring.
P.s. equinox was my first synthesizers, but I like Jarre's music!!

Ok, I had some issues to with the wiring. Maybe I can help if you explain to me what kind of wiring problem you have.

sadly we have two threads now with same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17401090#post17401090
..
The other Thread sais "solved", but it isn't already solved for me (and some others)..
there was also no need to open a new "solved" thread for the problems here..
Generaly the problem seems to be that noone exactly knows what values should be entered and specially how they be saved after entering for all devices.. Service mode only remembers the last changed device

[Q] volumeoutput for phonecalling is much too quiet

Hi Comm
I have my SGA since end of August and feel the volumeoutput for phonecalling is much too quiet. My talkingpartners don't have a problem to hear me, so i guess the mic should be ok, but when there is too much ambient noise i can drop the call.
All soundsettings are at MAX
Only help atm is to use my BT Headset, so i can turn it louder. But using the Headset should be optional, not a must.
Anyone of you got an idea to that? And yes, i already removed the protection plastic of the phone.
My brother has the same phone with the same issue.
Thanks

u on froyo or gingerbread? if still on froyo, try upgrade to gingerbread and see if the problem still exist. maybe its just rom/modem problem. if u already on gingerbread maybe u can flash just the modem if it makes any difference
btw here a thread with many modem collection for ace http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289830
Hi an0nym0us
I was on Gingerbread and did a ROM flash to GingerReal 1.4 (SGA-GR-1.4_GINGERBREAD.XWKPW) - same issue on both ROMs.
Can i flash different modem settings without having my actual ROM being confused? Or should i flash the ROM again when having new modem drivers?
Br Morph
I say it's hardware problem. I had my own ace having speakerphone problems, couldn't hear anything too.
if its hardware problem, service centre is the one and only solution
but is it just purely coincidence that op and his brother had the same problem?

yes, and its on max (=7) already.
since i have flashed a custom rom i might have a problem with the service center.
My brothers phone is still untouched
Well you could flash back to your regional rom and pretend it was just a factory reset.
good morning
i won't go to the service center, because i know those peeps. I give them my new handy, just to received it back two weeks later (or even longer), unchanged. Statement: everything ok.
appart from loading diverent modem-drivers, has anyone got a smart idea?

Service mode and Audio menu (modem patch?)

Hi
I really hope I can find an answer here. My speaker volume during call is too low, especially when I use it during driving.
Apps like Volume+ cannot solve this as they only boost the overall volume, and the results are not good enough (cal vol still too low, ring tome distort)
So I tried to boost spk vol using service/engineering mode menu
Dialed code *#*#197328640#*#* and taped optin 5 - Audio. But nothing happens. I looked it up and it turns out that Samsung blocked the Audio menu for some unknown reason. It also turns out that ths limitation is coded in the modem used. So I changed the modem to onld KI3 (GB modem). Amazingly it worked. Audio menu unlocked and I could change the max spk vol from 88 to 100 and my spkr during call was boosted and sounded just great...
BUT, my signal reception and bat draining is the worst I ever had. Plus, I cannot install a matching RIL because this is a GB based modem and I'm running ICS 404.
So, since the audio menu blocking is a modem related issue, I there any way to patch/hack an ICS modem.bin to unlock the service mode audio menu??? I've searched the entire internet and this entire forum and could not find an answer. There are so many fine and talented devs here, I wonder why no one has found a workaround for this. Is it technically possible to restore the audio menu in service mode? Is where are all these settings saved? I noticed there is a system app named servicemode.apk. Could this be patched? Is there a config file that holds all the menu settings?
I promise to buy a full case of beer to any dev who will find a solution to this. Also I cannot understand why samsung set the max spk vol to 88%and not 100%...?
Thanks
If you flash the old modem, change the volume then flash a newer modem does it not retain the volume settings? It worked with me for WBAMR settings.

Thanks. Already tried that. WBAMR works, but not with audio settings. In fact, even if you leave the old moden, audio settings get reset to default after each reboot... I really don't know samsung so anxious to prevent us from changing audio settings.. And why are they setting all max volume to only 88 or 86%???
To bad no one cares about this and try to do something... There must be a way to decompile modem.bin and unlock it.. I wish I knew how...
Fair enough. I tested it myself as I find the handset volume too quiet in many calls myself. If it was just possible to get into the audio menu then a Tasker script can be used to automate resetting the volume to 100 or whatever after every reboot. It's getting the audio menu that's the problem.
I don't understand wtf it would be locked out, why??!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
So no one did fix this nor find a solution? I have used Omega rom for a year, and volume settings did work from STweaks. But after I did reflash on the same rom, same kernel, these setting do not work on in call volume. I mean, yes, ringtones are louder and other sound, but talking on the phone in a bit loud place in pain in....
I don't remember what modem I had, but I always thought it's newest one. Now I can't enter AUDIO menu, and cannot boost incall volume...
This may be because of some APK that samsung has in it's rom. When I installed Omega, "in this time" I tried NOT to install Samsung crap programs, and made thing simple. Maybe that is because of some missing APK?
Please gurus, help me, this is just stupid and making me crazy.

I have the same issue with my headset. Hope someone will find a solution soon.
I too have same problem!!
Whats wrong with samsung!!, sometime Wifi problem and sometime bluetooth.:silly::silly:
earlier I was on 4.1.2 and it was working good with my jabra clipper bluetooth headset, after updating to 4.4.2 it sucks!.
according to my observation,
The OS is trying to save battery by limiting the bluetooth signal strength!, and the same problem with wifi also.:silly:
Looking for a workaround. If i find any will post for sure.
I have the same issue with my Note 2 after update to 4.4.2..
It seems to be a distance problem with my headset, every distance more than 50 cm creates
sound break up´s .. In my car the phone has a fixed place, it happens too, but not this much.
Maybe it is caused by a lower power managment for BT after update ?!
Found some others having the same issue e.g. here

Hi
and have the same problem with the bluetooth, the phone in my pocket, Samsung headphones on the head and lose the music signal, conclusion .... android version
Before to upgrade I had 4.3 and works very well and now I upgraded to 4.4.2 my Note 2 with Phantom_V7.0 and work awesome but has a minus....... the bluetooth signal gets lost and it's not about the power, for ex i have battery with 4200 mAh
I will continue to keep looking this problem and I will return
There is no way to get better connection. The only way is using a 4.3 ROM
Seems like the problem is solved.
Hey guys!
It seems to me I’ve found the solution!
But firstly, a few words about the problems I’ve got…
I have Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and, when I decided to replace my old Plantronics Discovery 975 with their Voyager Edge, it had installed Android 4.3.
Both events, start using the new Bluetooth devise and upgrading to KitKat (4.4.2) occurred almost simultaneously, so it was pretty difficult to recognize what was the source of the problems that I run into – hardware/firmware issues of Voyager Edge or KitKat’s quirks. The problems were the following:
- Poor Bluetooth connection that resulted in distorted sound (not always, but often) thru the headset.
- Regularly losing the ability to use various Edge’s features, such as calling back to the last number, checking the battery status, recognizing who's calling, etc.
- Note’s battery drained badly – instead of 50-60% left at the end of the day, I got 10%...
I spoke several times with Plantronics support, but they ended advising me to replace the headset. I have neither found the specific solution in the internet and it was even reported that the factory reset would hardly help. So, that was almost the dead-end. But there was one pretty weird solution that helped to some people – deleting the duplicates in the phone’s contact list. But, since I had NO duplicates, it didn’t seem to be helpful. But then, I noticed one very strange detail – during the moments when Edge worked properly it correctly pronounced the names from my phone book, even tho some of them were quite unusual for English speaking "robot". All of them, but one – my mother’s record, which was a simple “Mom”, but when she called me, the Edge’s notification was definitely not “calling from mom”…
So, I just renamed “mom” to “mother”!
Guys, can you believe that, but ALL the problems (both phone’s and headset’s) have just gone! I’ve been using it for almost a week already and it’s OK. So, you may check your contact list, whether it sounds correctly.
Well, one issue left – weird/funny bug of the Edge’s firmware – start playing music when you take it off the cradle. (2 latest firmware updates didn’t cure that…). I just long press the voice button on the Edge to pause it. Not a big deal, to be honest.
Oh, just one last note – since Voyager Edge cannot be rebooted you can do the following if/when you neither hear the music (!), nor the report that the headset is connected when you take it off the cradle. Just long press the Call button on the headset (in my case it runs Note’s S-voice) and then everything works just fine. (Checked twice.)
Hope that this will help you too.
Cheers,
Max

Hi Harvey,
Absolutely the same reaction was mine, when I read the comment by dawolverune (see page 1 of this thread). How deleting duplicate contacts might help…
Well, if assume that I tell the truth (and I actually do! ), then the solution may be explained in 2 ways: a) logical – I’ve been hammering with all this stuff for almost a week and nothing helped until I renamed that single contact and then, it just start working and b) technical – since Voyager Edge pronounced the wrong name it means that it took it from somewhere, but definitely from the wrong place and this might require extra “efforts” from the Bluetooth receiver/transmitter, etc. This indeed may result in abnormal behavior of the devise and “eating” the battery. If re-phrase the title of S. Coppola’s movie – here we had “Lost in Bluetooth” case.
Cheers,
Max

SOLUTION OF BLUETOOTH DROPPING after 4.4.2 update
Yo !
I found the solution. No one has to downgrade Note 2 (N7100) to Jelly-bean in order to fix the Bluetooth range and WiFi dropping issue.
The fault is with the latest update from Samsung itself, May be it is a tactic to make people shift to the newer phones.(who knows) !
Anyway the solution to this problem is to Flash it with Odin it a previous release of 4.4.2.
In my case which is from the INU (India) region the release of August that is 29.08.2014 is a faulty update.
So i downloaded the older one and flashed it.. then everything worked perfectly as if the phone was new
Here is how to do it:- [BACKUP YOUR PHONE WITH KIES 3]
1. Check your version from *#1234#, Compare the version with Near August version of your Region. If it is same you better change it to get a way better performance.
2. Look up the earlier ROM version released from samsung-updated .com , http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-N7100&details=Galaxy_Note_2__International , I personally flashed it with the first version of Kit-Kat that came for note 2 in INU region. on the 8th April (08.04.2014).
3. Download ODIN http://www.mediafire.com/download/mbvtjub21ehsxrl/Note+2+Odin.zip
4. Install Samsung USB drivers http://www.mediafire.com/download/9qaqkld45387lzi/Skyrocket_GSII_ADB_Drivers.zip
[IF THE LINKS DON'T WORK then GOOGLE THEM AND INSTALL]
5. Power off your Samsung Note 2.
6. Hold Volume Down, Power, and Home Buttons at the same time. You will enter the ODIN DOWNLOAD MODE on your phone.
7. Press Volume up to Continue. It will Show "Downloading" "do not power off"
8. Connect your device to the PC where you have put ODIN and the md5 file (Firmware you want to flash with)
9. It will show connected to your device name on the top left of ODIN which means that it recognizes your device.
Click on PDA and select the firmware that u downloaded to flash Note 2 with.
It will lag for a few seconds but let it take its time.
When it is done. [Refer Image attached]
10. Press Start [It will take around 5 minutes, 3 minutes give or take]
11. It will Automatically Reboot your phone. Do not disconnect the USB cable.
After the boot is Complete ODIN will show a PASS on the left Side. Which means that the Flashing Process has been a Success.
If it shows fail then Repeat the process from STEP 6 all the way till STEP 11.
{ RECOVERY STEPS:- this will wipe all your data}
[Also, If device is Stuck at setup connection or on any other process, then disconnect your Note 2 from PC, close Odin, remove phone’s battery and put it back inside AFTER 5 seconds, press Volume up, Home key and Power key at the same time, When the Logo comes then Leave the Power button but keep pressing the other 2. Wait for it to show MANUAL MODE. Select Wide Data and Factory reset with Volume down and press power to continue, Then again wipe Cache.
Select Reboot . Now it should work perfectly.
CAUTION :- DO THIS AT UR OWN RISK.
Is this problem appears in official update? Want to update, but dont want any probs)
Yes the problem is with the official update. Better not update it till there is another update of it available.
I'm thinking this might have to do with Samsung dropping the Bluetooth version from 4.0 back to 2.0. I have no idea why they would do that but I've been wondering why my phone listed version 2.0 when the specs for this phone always said version 4.0. As you can see my debug screen shows it as version 2 and not 4.0. My Edge shows 4.0 on that same screen. I can't recall if older builds for the Note 2 had 4.0 listed but I believe they did and kitkat lowered it. Guess that's their trick to get people to upgrade, break things on our phones quietly...

Speaker diagnosis test Failed

I bought Xperia x a few weeks ago and I found audio output through loudspeaker is less compared to other phones out there. So I contacted sony care online and they told me to do speaker diagnosis test available in settings app. While testing I wasn't able to hear anything from speaker. Does that mean that my loud speaker has problem? Can anyone out there check and confirm that diagnosis test works well or not for you?
I tested this from diagnostic app in settings and I could hear both speakers.
Yes, both speaker should work (assuming your volume level >0). I am afraid you must return your phone.
I would respectably disregard the previous suggestion to return your phone as this appears to be an issue with Sony's app and nothing at all to do with the stability of the hardware itself.
When I first ran the diagnostics, all tests except the proximity sensor passed; including both speaker tests. I restarted the phone, reran the test, and the proximity sensor test passed without further troubleshooting. Unfortunately this time both speaker tests decided to randomly fail? I called my voicemail and the earphone speaker worked without issue, so I then turned on the loud speaker and it also appeared to work just fine.
I did this a couple more times and got the same results so I decided to troubleshoot the issue a bit further, and what I found was that Sony's app appears to wrap around built in diagnostics commands; which are the same commands that can be accessed and/or ran via the "Service Menu". After running both speaker tests from the Service Menu, I can confirm that the "real" diagnostics commands work just fine and sounds could be heard during both tests.
Please follow the steps below and see if manually running the diagnostics commands via the "Service Menu" produces different results then those provided by the Sony Support app.
1. Turn your volume up!
2. Dial *#*#7378423#*#*
3. Select "Service tests"
4. Select "Speaker" and listen for sound
5. Select "Earphone", then place the phone to your ear and listen for sound
If steps 4 & 5 play a sound, rest assured that your hardware is functioning just fine and a replacement WILL NOT BE NEEDED. If you are still unable to hear anything then keep on reading as the solution for me was literally nothing more then changing my ringtone back to a default tone.
There was only one variable that made sense here which was that I had changed my ringtone to a custom file stored on my SD card just before restarting my phone after the first test. So instead of assuming it was hardware related, right from the start my assumption was that the Sony Support app has a bug and could not properly link to ringtones that are stored outside of the default system location. I was able to verify this by changing my ringtone back to the default tone and re-running the Sony diagnostics and confirming that both tests produced sound just fine. Now if you still cannot get sound then I would suggest contacting Sony support to inquire further. If a replacement is actually needed, they will let you know.
Now...with regards to the rushed suggestion to replace your device...I feel I must comment towards such a ridiculously rushed conclusion...
Simply put, it's not right to send people on a wild goose chase without first taking the time to test things out for yourself... even a tiny lil itsty bit? Personally, I know I'd be pissed right off if I found out that I sent in my phone without there actually being a problem with it, and whether you realized it or not,, that is actually the least of the potential consequences? You really should have considered that some people might have to pay to ship it, and others might have to drive an hour or two to get to the nearest repair centre? So maybe...just maybe...even the simplest of suggestions like "restart your phone" or "ask google!", prior to suggesting that someone should replace it, would have proven to be infinitely more useful? I hate to be rude, and I get that you were just trying to help, but if you don't want to spend any time at all to test anything out for yourself, then maybe it is best to not comment on the issue in the first place? Just simply let them wait for someone who is...
This is just my two cents, but I firmly believe that no advice is better then bad advice...
EDIT:
Model: XA2 Ultra (H3223)
Build: 50.1.A.13.83 (Stock Rom)
Sony Support Version: 4.2.10
So I found 2 other issue with Sony's diagnostics tests.
1. When you run the wifi test it will pass, but it will leave your wifi disabled afterwards and it will not allow it to be turned back on until the phone is restarted. Manual testing worked just fine.
2. When you run the ambient light test, the image provided by Sony will show, but it will already be faded while under normal light conditions. It will work while under a bright light, but it does not function correctly under normal conditions. Manual testing works just fine.

Need Ulefone Power Armor 13 Engineer Mode Audio Levels

I'm new to this forum. Please let me know if I am doing something wrong. On my Ulefone power armor 13 phone, the volume from the handset was very low. I opened engineer mode by dialing *#*#3646633#*#*. I changed the sound levels. But I didn't know exactly which setting I changed. That's why I need default settings right now. I can't reset my phone because it has too much data and I'm not in a position to back it up yet. I need someone using this phone to share all sound levels as screenshots or text. Thank you in advance.
Hey, I have the same issue of quiet headset. I have to keep saying "WHAT? Can you please repeat" Loool it's not that often, but happens sometimes. I had it with my Doogee S90 too. But I don't remember how I fixed it lol.
What screen you wanna see I will be happy to share.
Btw, I think the right thing would be using Viper Magisk module. But, I haven't tried it myself.
This is the Audio and voice settings.
Yes, that's what I'm talking about. But I need all the settings. For example, if we take the first picture you took, I need all the settings after clicking the "system" tab. And the same things need to be done for the other tab "bt a2dp". I want something very challenging but I really need it. Because my headset was too low. I increased all the levels as I don't know which setting fixed it. Now headset is fine. But this time other audio-requiring things like audio recording and video recording got worse. I am on a business trip. That's why I haven't taken the phone with me right now. If I solve this problem, I will start using it again. It has incredible battery performance and that's what I really need. Thanks again for your help.
