Because off an 2.3.3:
- ugly looking UI & apps,
- one way camera UI,
- music app much behind from Mediascape (o.k., equalizer, but the rest is crap)
- calendar like from stone age, useless
- not any connection between UI of stock apps, like they were doing a car from different company spare parts
- ...
Because I'm always looking forward, I'm asking if there is any possibility to make apps & framework more like on 2.1, with much more stylish UI and apps? I'm still on 2.1.B.0.1, rooted and JIT. This version is quite fast and smooth, but I'm not quite happy. I've flashed my x10 with 2.3.3 for about 10-times and allways get back to 2.1.

Ummm... I don't think so - there is different screen resolution for a start which would probably cause issues with the replacement files fir JIT.
I haven't tried as I haven't got one but if you are famulier with SEUS and feeling brave then give it a try!!!
BTW: I am not responsible if this is put onto an X8 since it hasn't been tested!
I'm currently switching between Manny's Xtreme Theme and Shiv's Gingerbread Nexus S edition, they are both really nice looking themes.
(I think Gingerbread is a bit more stable/quicker, and has a nicer battery icon in the notification bar, it also has a cool little android in the pull down notification menu.. its the little details)
but Manny's Xtreme theme has really beautiful Application Menu's (like in launcher pro when you press the menu button you get the box at the bottom and all the icons are colored and look really sweet.. )
yes, Iridium Rom is fast.. (but for your average user not really that functional, as it is too customised to one user's taste.. once you start installing your own widgets, home launcher, and apps its becomes just as slow as any other Rom. (I have tested this with Linepack and Quadrant)
This is just my personal opinion and of course everyone has their own taste's the only way you can get a Rom/theme perfect for you is to either make it yourself or combine several existing ones and take what you like from each (which is what I might do with Gingerbread and Xtreme because I really cant decide which little features I can live without)
Good luck.. and have a play, with xRecovery its so easy to switch and swap (just make a backup in xRecovrey first so you can always revert)

Hmm,
after ~50apps and several widgets, i still get 7600+ in linpack and 600 in quadrant.
Overall experience is still fast.
So what is your setup?

Hey D_d
I have switched back to Shiv's Gingerbread nexus S Theme at the moment.. but please don't take my comment the wrong way.. I'm just trying to point out its not just the Rom that effects speed.. its a combination of things.. the Home launcher, apps and widgets that are running too, I was getting quick Quadrant scores running your Rom, faster than other themes/roms (590's), but I didn't like the app drawer so I installed Launcher Pro, then Beautiful Widgets and a few other apps.. and after that the Quadrant scores had dropped into the 570's-580's and the speed was barely distinguishable from other Roms.. My SD card is only Class 4 so perhaps that effects my Quadrant scores running your rom with Apps2SD (I don't use Apps2SD on other Roms) anyway, I think your Rom is the most out there Rom, so different from anything else I have seen.. I didn't mean to offend, just wanted to say each to his own. Your Rom in its pure form is still faster than anything else
Sincerely
Kiwi

Hey!
I wasn't offended in any way, sorry if it sounded like that!
What i meant was, that i always look for ways to tweak things up, a liiiittle bit more so that's why i'm asking about setup and stuff.
I've installed many many applications and widgets and i still get the same speed and overall experience plus the quadrant and linpack scores.
To be honest, i still use iridium's launcher and probably it's simplicity makes him fast. Launcher Pro is a highly customizable launcher, but tends to make our phone laggy (try Zeam instead).
And some other piece of info:
App2SD plus the dalvik2SD mod can run properly (and fast), even on class 2 sdcards! (The only laggy part is during the installation of an app, probably +/- ~2seconds). So don't worry about lag with this script.
On the contrary, if you move your /data/data on ext3 partition, you will score more than 800 in quadrant but your phone will get so laggy that it will become unusable anymore (unless you have a class 10 sd)
PS: Purple is the new black. Once you go purple, you never go back, lol

@D_d
Sweet.. the last thing I want to do is offend anyone..
And thanks for the Apps2sd tips.. I have used that in the past.. but I find it causes a few issues every time my P.C mounts the ext3 partition on the phone... (I run Ubuntu and it seems to always mount both my phone SD partitions without me telling it to )
I'm waiting for a Froyo type Apps2sd where you can select what apps go where.
I use Launcher Pro Plus (mostly for the widget resize, LP widgets and scrolling dockbar) Zeam's dock bar is really screwy, no fixed scroll, you can only have one App drawer button on it and no custom dock backgrounds.. plus no widget resizing.. but then again.. I also drive an old Citroen so slower speeds obviously aren't an issue for me
I´d used MiniCM6 (great Froyo based ROM) and MiniCM7 (not so good as MiniCM6) for a long time. Now I´m using GingerDX (based on MiniCM7 and ported from Xperia X8 to X10mini) and I´m very happy, it is fast and very powerfull. Some bugs need external programs like Smart Caller ID (free on Android Market) for a correct caller identification (the screen cover the ID on original rom).
[]s
I think that if you haven't got a rom yet, the best would be to wait for the official Clockworkmod team to make their official port of CM7 (they say it's coming up)
I personally use the awsome GinToniC SE by slades87, but i don't know if it works on mini (it's for pro)
Hi All
Been a regular reader but just joined now.
Anyway I've been trying a few custom ROMs out on my rooted HTC Hero (GSM)... many have some very good things, but many of the 2.2 ones don't have some of the features or apps I loved from 2.1, especially some of the HTC sense, or some of the apps.
So, I was wondering if anyone can recommend a custom ROM that can do/has the following:
- Based on Froyo 2.2 (want to try out the supposed performance improvements, new UI, later version of flash, etc)
- Needs the Apps2SD functionality (I believe all 2.2 based Roms have it)
- I really like the HTC flip clock/weather widget, with the animated weather as in 2.1..but haven't seen it in 2.2. Is it not available anymore? Anyway it could manually still be added?
- The 2.1 weather app.. where you can add multiple locations. 2.2 only seems to have weather/news which I dont like as much.... the option to see weather in different locations just by scrolling down was great. No other options in the market seem to do this as well, either
- In fact - most of the original HTC widgets available of on the Hero I would still like
- The 'Stocks' app found in earlier versions is missing in 2.2. I really like this app, as it's the only one I have ever found that you can add many quotes, and will work well with non-US countries (like Australia/NZ sharemarkets for example). But, it's not in found in the market and doesn't seem to be featured in 2.2?
- I also liked the way that when looking at 'people', it would summarise 'events' like birthdays and give me a taskbar notification. The 2.2 Roms I have tried so far, don't seem to have this same function anywhere..is it still available?
- I also liked the previous 'my contact card' where I could store my own details. I cant see this in 2.2 either is nit now gone? Would still love that.
Anyway, maybe I'm asking too much, but is there any custom ROM anyone can recommend, that is based on 2.2 but still has those 'good' bits from 2.1 or earlier?
Or, is there anyway I can add them myself??
I have checked out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889299
and others, but so far haven't found anything that quite has the above...
For the Flip Clock, you can search for Fancy Widget. In the current version, the autohor redesigned ist, but with you can find the older version here on the forum -and it looked exactly like the Sense flip clock! (what also explains, why that version was removed from the market by htc) As a bonus, I find it less laggy than the original one -therefore, it replaced HTC's flip clock on my homescreen
For the rest, I think, you need a ROM with Sense, as Sense Widget don't work on non-sense Roms...
I use fancy widget as well, glad I saved the .apk file
as for the sense like widgets you are better of doing a market search you might find some similiar to them.
or just go install the custom sense froyo roms although the camera or some hardware aint working on them
Thanks, I found the older fancy widget apk so I will give that a try.
I guess I'm asking too much for a custom ROM based on 2.2, with all the HTC Sense stuff still working... will have to comprise somewhere.
I really wanna give 2.2 a decent try but a lot of the stuff I liked from 2.1 isn't there anymore in the ROM's I've seen.
Anyway thanks for the replies!

the fact is mate you want HTC Sense on 2.2 (or sounds like that), which isn't a 100% stable port on the Hero (GSM) so you can have 2.2 working perfectly and use 3rd party apps like everyone else to get the same effect, or you can use a buggy 2.2 port of HTC sense, and live with it until someone makes a good port.
Yeah I wasn't too sure what ROM's were available and what they all could or could not do, hence asking for recommendations.
Anyway I'm trying out a number of differnet ones until I find the best one for me.
Think you're right though, 2.2 with Sense isn't really available/stable yet so I think a non-sense 2.2 with addons is the way to go at this stage.
Cheers
Hi,
I trye different ROM and i think a non-sense 2.2 whith an other launcher (like LauncherPro) is better than Sense...
The ROM TastyFroyo is the faster ROM but the screen resolution is not compatible with BeautifulWidget. (2.2 non-sense)
And the FroyedVillain is awesome too and full stable! (2.2 non-sense)
The ChocolateFroyo is a 2.2 with sense but i dut test it...
You have the rom in 2.3 too!!!
Elinux ROM and TastyGinger are great but still in beta...
I just wanted to flash a new rom for my hero and I couldnt choose which one. I need that this new rom runs without lag. I need working camera, wifi, gps, bluetooth, trackball light and notification lights. Also I need apps2sd, custom kernel, and maybe some lagfixers.
An ideal would be a rom with sense ui.
I hope that you can help me.
First of all - no way to get sense for you at the moment.
Android 2.2 with sense: camera not working, villain devs are working on it, dunno when they're ready.
Android 2.3 with sense: simply inexistant
But you can get homescreen Sense feeling with LauncherPro or something alike, look for "home screen replacement" or "launcher" in market.
For the question of a good Android 2.2/2.3 custom ROM:
Android 2.3:
Elelinux 1.2:
CynogenMod7 - Mod, lots of cool features, lots of eyecandy (example: customizable lockscreen, overscrolling effect etc.)
TastyGinger by RaduG:
AOSP Mod, less special features than Elelinux, but with a very nice High- resolution - effect (called low-dpi) and no ads in games and browser
Android 2.2:
Haven't got much experience on this, try chocolateFroyo or some stuff of elelinux, maybe others can give tips here... only advantage of Android 2.2 in my opinion: NAVIGON works
in 2.3 some problems with some programs may occur cause it's still new...
greets, Summoner
PS: would be grateful if you pressed the "thanks" button down there if i was able to help you
The bane of ICS for me and my OCD is the terrible mixture of froyo and gingerbread style sony apps with the new ICS theme. I'm sure it goes against the conventions set in google's guidelines on how to make apps for ICS and its slowly but sure driving me me me much more insane.
I would be grateful on a discussion of what can be done to remedy this dreadful plight... I have gathered a couple of ideas but I am looking for more!
1. The music player has ghastly bubbles in its corners and does not fit with ICS theme.
in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716549
Lasanda links to a thread with an APK that updates the default player to a walkman version ripped by doomlord which can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676013
also I would suggest trying out vanilla music player, it's open source and works with the new lockscreen as well as having widgets that work in other launchers. I can't get the album artwork to work on my mini though (while it works no problem on an android mediaplayer I also have) so would appreciate if anyone else has any input.
2. The home screen's capped framerate now looks laggy since the ICS ui has significantly improved graphical performance from extra use of the GPU. The color scheme and style of the bubbles is also out of phase with the new ICS theme. They shoulda just changed the bubbles for futurisitic triangles or something.
- the best I've managed so far is replacing with zeam
3. call screen : bubbles/
-no idea, if anyone has any clue what to do here if and how to replace the call screen I would be happy and give you my thanks.
Apart from lack of encryption and this poor theme, ICS is good for me. Please share any more tips to improve it further though
thanks
I have installed UNLIMITED custom rom (locked BL) which I really like - so much faster than stock.
I do however, like the the look and feel of the stock phone (making and receiving calls) and contacts.
Would it just be a case of replacing /system/app/Phone.apk and Contacts.apk with the stock ones (and then, I guess reboot/delete dalvik cache)? If so, does anybody have them?
(sk17i - mini pro)
thanks!
Ok. So I've decided to ditch UNLIMITED.. it never felt quite right on my mini pro:
mobile signal sometimes seemed get lost during sleep, and takes a long time to recover it again on wake, and sometimes even needed a manual scan
the LED notification fix was a bit flakey (sometimes it would blink for SMSs, sometimes it wouldn't)
setting a ringtone for a contact didn't work (all contacts ring with the system default tone)
That said, it was definitely a nice smooth and fast ROM. Very nippy, and no bloat. I would stick with MiniCMSandwich Lite AOSP if you're after that though - Even though it's quite dated now, it's more stable.
Personally, I much prefer the Sony stock look and feel over AOSP, especially the dialler and contacts app, so I've ended up going for Official 4.1.B.0.587 as its a handy flashable ZIP and is rooted, together with Ultimate Notification LED fix for Xperia. I've gone through and removed the bloat, and so far all is running nice and smooth, and most importantly, the LED notification works fully now :highfive:
It's not quite as fast and smooth as UNLIMITED / MiniCMSandwich, but I'm hoping a custom kernel like MESA and some tweaks might help that.
