Now this is the only and of course, the official support thread for miks cm7, but please, please, do move on! This is old and although it was once the best and still is a good ROM, nighties are by far and large better.
The journey from alpha's of this ROM was amazing and very memorable.
THIS THREAD WILL REMAIN AS A DISCUSSION FOR THOSE WHO ARE STILL ON MIKS ROM DUE TO SOME REASON OR THE OTHER. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU SWITCH TO addfad's CM7 . it's more stable, more smooth, more bug fixes, no black screen, etc etc. I myself was and am a huge mik fan. And I switched very very late.. But now I regret it. So go go Adam! (that's his name)
So as the name says , this is a discussion thread for mik_os's latest mod of cyanogenMOD7 .. so here it is for you all . have any question ? any doubt ? any questions about battery life or kernels ? just post here ! simple ! and save mik_os some trouble ! remember ! dont post non-developement stuff in dev thread. PLEASE. A REQUEST.
here is the link to developement forum : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354
so here are some lill advices:
1. read up. its very easy , and very usefull. search in the thread. there are more than 1000 users on xda and if u have a problem, its very likely that u arent the first one with the problem, and that someone somewhere has had the same problem! and it is also very likely that that person has somehow got the solution or aworkaround. its very adviceable to read the posts or, if u find that the problem of that person is solved, but dont find the solution yourself, u can either pm him or ask him as a reply.
2. this rom is extreemly stable and 10x better , faster , amazing , customisable than the stock rom. thinking about going for it or not ? i strongly recommend - GO FOR IT !!!
3. for best battery with to the par performance , go for miks 6.5.8 with fserves goldenleaf kernel - its amazing.
4. for best perforance with battery too, and a lill more tweaks, go for fserves gbs kernels with 6.5.8
5. for pure power and performance (with a very very very lill compromise with battery [only during use, cuz standby battery is amazing] ) go for franco's kernel. its pure awesomeness.
6. for all noobs, and to make it clear- 6.5.x has the .32 kernel tree only, which means francos 19.4 kernels and fserves kernels. and also paolo's kernels. for 6.6.x - only .35 kernels. which includes francos gb kernels.. v1 and further..
7. READ THE FIRST PAGE OF MIKS MAIN DEVELOPEMENT THREAD BEFORE DOING ANYTHING. (^^links above^^)

The battery life is pretty good with franco's v15.1 kernel. It lasts for about 2 days for me. The only issue I have is the WIFI sometimes after waking up won't connect, so I have to turn it off and then back on.

No tweaks, I use same as releasing for you. Just do not install crappy apps.
oh, once more: I don't playing games
with games it's about 10-15h.
doing as you said ! will see now !
Well i get a little over 2 days battery lifetime to, mostly on 2g(90% time) and common sense. I'm on mik_os 6.5 clean.
I update my apps, i read news, F1,WRC,etc all on WiFi. I usually use 3G to check-in on Facebook and upload a photo. I occasionally play ant smasher and angry birds.
I use GPS to track my biking routes...
It's more than enough for me, im a metrourban afterall.

Im on 6.5.2 with franco's tweaks.zip and its high benchmark scores ( 1351 Quadrant and 1400 AtunTu ) and also 2 days battery life with 3g always enabled wifi like 1 hour , music 1 hour , calls/sms like always =). With franco's kernel getting some FCs, getting lower benchmarking scores, didnt tested battery life. IMHO using native kernel is always better since it is optimized for this ROM.

Hi all, i am using ROM Mik_os beta6.3, but without franco kernel i had battery life only about 1day (no games, half a day on 3g, half a day on 2g), 600MHz.
With franco kernel about 2 days.
Mik_os, when we can await more optimized ROM from you, with more battery life ?

as shhbz said, miks rom has a lot to give when it comes to performance but the battery life wont be as great as lgs 2.2.2 (my battery lasts about 2 days moderate usage, but its worth the performance)
edit: turns out u was using franco.kernel 18.1, which kills a lot of battery. I'll see how it goes now with another kernel

definitely. I'm using the kernel that came with miks 6.5.6 (which I believe is franco.kernel v18) and now I'm getting about the same battery life except on heavy usage

how to fix error in native sip rom mik 6.5.6.
It is the following problem. Whenever I make a call through SIP native-I always call sign even if the number for which I am connecting to is switched off or out of coverage. Explaining better if I call my own phone number and it is off I have ever heard sip native tone. I would like to fix this problem because I do a lot of calls over the Internet and thus never know if the phone is off or not ..
I sometimes manage to get 4-5 days with one charge too (that is on 2.2.1). When I tried void. #forever (yes, I do realize you're asking about cm7) with the built in kernel which is v17 I believe, I only managed to get about 3 days out of it. Even though my experience is not with the ROM you're asking about, I still hope that would give you some idea of what battery life is like once you go custom.

Hi!
I heard a lot of SGS2 users talking about these 2 custom ROMs like Lite'ning and Villain ROMs. Right now I'm using the Lite'ning ROM and I'm pretty happy with it, but I feel taht I need a change you know. So I was thinking to chnage my current rom to Villain ROM, but I don't know if it worth it? I need help to decide myself.
I would like to know which have the best battery life as I usea lot WIFI, internet and games. I focus most on the battery usage and a bit of style system improvements.
So, help me do decide, Lite'ning ROM or Villain ROM?
I don't even think it's worth rooting this phone right now. It's up to date, it's fast, all as stock...

I want to know more about the battery usage? How much it lasts?
I actually feel that samsung made this phone pretty beastly as is and did a good job on the fw, so i prefer just stock KG6; I do from time to time flash CM7 to see how its running along with its changes. I say either CM7 or Stock samsung is amazing for this phone.

One week!? I was excited when mine lasted for two days! Put up a picture of this!
And how do I print screen it?

you guys dont seriously believe anyone is getting a weeks battery do you? lol
I tried CM7 and VillainROM 2.3/2.4.2 and stock of course. CM7 and Villain are far better, faster and the battery lasts longer
Don't think there will be much difference in battery life with the use of either one of these ROM themself.
They do use different kernels but you can flash them separately and then use setCPU and underclock / undervoltage and try to improve the battery life slightly that way ....
Also some opengl games (myth defence) don't work well with my old stock rom (KE7). Now with CM7 everything is fine and smooth
NeoPhyTe.x360
Tried both, used Villain Rom for a while. now love NeoPhyTe.x360

Just rooted today...
My main issue is to extend the battery life.
Do I need to install a ROM to do that
If so what ROM do you suggest, but prefer something that is fast, barebones, great battery life, I am prolly going to be running go launcher...
How long have you been with the phone? I just got it a few days ago and waiting to "break-in" the battery...
I know for my t989 it was the same deal.
There are a few kernels that really help, go to the dev section and read up on them (and roms too!).
Install a custom rom and kernal.

you might want to try fourth bar rom. it's default launcher is go launcher and says it has amazing battery life. here's the link to it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421811
I just got the phone on the weekend and installed xboarders BulletProof ROM day before yesterday and the SetCPU app. My battery life has improved dramatically. Now I can get 14-16 hours of moderate use out of the phone on 4g. This gets me through my day and has made this phone the PERFECT device for me. I love it!!
On Wifi and with more careful power management the battery could definitely last up to 24 hr.

Leaving WiFi on and scanning while not connected to a network will drain your battery, but in a head-to-head wifi vs 4g connection battle WiFi comes out on top.
Flash Faux's Kernel located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359951

I had if for a few months... you are 100 percent right about the break in period, when I first got this phone I could almost watch this phone drain to nothing..
I also purchased a couple of anker batteries and a wall chargers... I noticed that if I complete charge and drain the battery the life would even get better I did this about 12 times for each battery.

Yes you need to do both. Most, if not all, ROMs come with their own kernel that must be installed so that everything in the ROM works correctly. You flash a rom through recovery and then use fastboot to install the kernel. A lot of the current ROMs come with a script that flashes the kernel for you though, so it's not a big deal. (Other devices that have S-OFF can flash the kernel directly when you flash the rom, which is one reason why we want S-OFF so much, so possibly think about donating to the cause).
Awesome... installed the 4th sense rom... I am very happy with it so far!

You'll know it works by not having any problems. I believe the kernel overclocks it for you, but OCing lowers battery life, so it kind of goes against what you originally wanted.

I've tried almost all of the roms here (except bulletproof) in combination with stock and faux kernels. The best combos I came up with for battery was BeastMod and 4th Bar with stock kernel from BeastMod. No matter what I did with faux kernels (OC, UC, Undervolt) I could never beat the battery life of stock kernel. Good luck and keep us updated.

For the limited time I have been on kernel and Rom there is been no significant change in battery life.
The phone is faster that is for sure.. that will drain battery
faster but I a running less widgets and no live wallpaper that I normally rock.
The deal breaker for me is that the sound remains on when you close apps/games... and stays on even when the screen is off.
I will give beat mod a try with a stock kernel.
Hello everyone!
I'm the long-time proud owner of a Galaxy S2 NFC (GT-I9100P): almost 3 years and counting....
After more than two years with stock roms, some months ago, I switched to NeatROM, to see if I could get better battery life (right now I'm on JellyBean: XWMS3 NeatROM v.6.4, kernel 3.0.101-Apolo_4.14_Light-gf40153f).
As of now, I manage to keep the phone on (with some ordinary texting, whatsapp texting, a few twits, 2-4 phonecalls & some internet research per day) for about 13-14 hours (most of the time, I manage to get home with 10% battery or less...I suspect this is also due to bad signal strenght where I work ).
Anyway, I read around the forums flashing a KitKat ROM might squeeze a little more battery juice, thanks to its "optimizations", yet I also read it might bring out battery draining issues...so I'm a bit at loss...
Would you recommend me to update my phone to KitKat, or would you suggest to stick to JellyBean?
I'm posting a poll. DO please also add your considerations to your vote.
Thank you in advance,

Sry in advance, I'm replying using the app and I found no way to vote here.
My experience I've made is generally the Samsung based roms like miui, fusion or neat rom are good at battery life. I think Samsung did a nice job there.
Custom roms which aren't based on stock rom didn't have the same good battery life for me.
Thinking about KitKat roms I've made the experience that the phone often had some wakelocks, I couldn't reproduce. I also read other user had the same problems as well.
So in summary i didn't get better battery life there either.
For me best battery life can be found at stock rom based roms.
Talking about battery life, I'd recommend you to try apolo kernel, as this kernel seems to improve it, especially by using undervolting.
Good luck finding a good rom.

My recomendation is try for yourself.
Battery drain is very dependant on the way the phone is used.
I have my supported S 2 running AOSP Neatrom and use three apps to help with battery drain: Greenify, Leandroid and Unbounce. The first requires Xposed for full funcionality and the third is a Xposed module.
I really do not like Touchwiz roms and prefer to have AOSP richier UI configuration. With the apps above you might be able to move to AOSP and still have a battery life that is good enough for you.
And remember, after a few years of use batteries loose performance. Just get a new one and you certainly will have more juice by the end of the day.
