Hey All,
First post here in the Galaxy tab forum but I frequent the XDA phone forums. I have a question (and I have done plenty of searching online and in the forums) but can not seem to get this to work.
My Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI only is rooted and has the newest TASK650 ROM installed. I am using the Motorola Photon 4G (rooted as well) with Barnacle WIFI tether. The Photon creates an adhoc network.
I have installed ZT-180 adhoc switcher on my Galaxy Tab and can not seem to get it to connect to my phone for tethering. I have made sure the SSID on both the ZT-180 app on the tab and the tethering app (Barnacle) match.
In the ZT-180 app on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI only, I switch from infrastructure mode to adhoc and it will not connect nor does it seem to do anything.
When I switch back to infrastructure mode it will connect to my home internet but switching to adhoc mode does nothing. Barnacle WIFI tethering on my phone is running and I can confirm I can connect to a computer for access. I have disabled WEP security just to be sure.
I know this topic has been discussed before but I could not seem to find the answers so I came here.
I hope you all can help a brother out.
Thanks again!
-Matt
Anyone?
Edit* i was able to connect my phone and tab via bluetooth and turn on Barnacle tether and it works. Thanks

I just got my new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI version. I am able to connect to the internet smoothly with my home WLAN network. However, when I turn on the wifi hotspot from my mobile phone, the tab does not recognize it (WIFI analyzer can though). My Lenovo laptop can see it and connect via it to the internet, so the hotspot itself is working.
I am just wondering if connecting to wifi hotspot is really supported in the tab and/or Android 3.1?
Thank you for your advice in advance
Connecting to an "Access Point" Hotspot works fine, tested it with my Galaxy S. Maybe your phone opens an Ad Hoc network?
thanks. this seems to be right into the point. i use symbian phone running joiku, and it indeed seems to support adhoc mode only. so anyway to enable adhoc wifi connecting support in my tab?
Haven't tried it myself but it seems there is a patch in the development section which enables ad-hoc network detection/connection (Tab needs to be rooted): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123638
Thank you. Now I have managed to make the adhoc wifi connecting work by following the instructions behind the above link
I have a fascinate, rooted with Cyanoganmod that I've been using as a wifi hotspot for some time. I have a Dell laptop that I connected with it regularly. For some reason, when I try to use my new Gtab, the ad-hoc wifi doesn't show up. It does for other devices but not the Gtab. I have that rooted with Gtabcomb and tried a friends Gtab with Gtabcomb..same issue. Could it be Gtabcomb not allowing me to attach to ad-hoc wireless networks? I did try a fix someone posted up here for Barnacle but that didn't work.
Thanks,
Did you try entering the ad-hoc info manually? I had to do that on my tab running VegaN 5.1 because it wouldn't "find" the ad-hoc network. Once I added it manually it connected right up.
Joe
weird. i can tether via barnacle with no problems from my facinate to my gtab with no issues.
No I tried setting it manually but I get "not in range". Tried darn near every setting I can think of in Barnacle an another wifi app to no avail. UGH!!!
brad08stanggt, what ROM are you using?
Hello everyone Noobie here. First off, both phone and tab are rooted. I have been using the tether wifi 3.1 beta 2 for tethering and everything worked great. I recently updated the the tablet using the update on the tablet and I am still able to connect to the phone via wifi, but no 3G data as of now. Anyone??
FYI
I use Barnacle to wifi and tether to the lap top which is ad-hoc with no problem. Bueller??
Bueller???
Hi all. I'm currently looking for a new phone and I'm pretty interested in the Galaxy SII.
I currently use a rooted Nook Color running CM7 as a tablet, and I want to connect it to my new phone via an infrastructure hotspot.
Can the Galaxy SII host infrastructure wifi, or adhoc only?
Forgive me if this has been asked before. I search of this forum for "infrastructure" didnt turn anything up.
Yes it can host a wifi hotspot, no idea about adhoc.

I know it can host a wifi hotspot, but what I'm curious about is whether that hotspot is ad-hoc or infrastructure. If it's adhoc I have to modify one of the WPA files on my nook, which DOES work, but it causes major instability and hassle.
I'd rather just make sure I get a device that supports infrastructure, and then I dont have to worry about it
I have a nook tablet (not rooted) that will not connect to my Droid X2 (rooted) tether wireless connection. I am able to connect to the tether wireless connection with my laptop though. Thoughts or somehow to resolve this issue??
Your Droid2 is likely broadcasting in ad-hoc mode. Android cannot by default, connect to ad-hoc networks, only infrastructure. Your laptop can do both.
Look around the forums here for the ad-hoc fix.
thanks
Thank you for the response, I will have to check around to find that fix.
