Coworker got an Atrix recently on 1.8.3. She asked if I could add it to the wireless network at work to do the OTA 2.3.4 update (as the little triangle is annoying her in the status bar). I put her on our wifi and went to download the OTA and nothing happens. When I go to status check for updates it says download in progress but it's not. I left it running for three hours and got nothing. Her phone is stock so I don't wanna screw any future updates up so I was weary about manually flashing anything. Any tricks I don't know about on getting this to her phone? I'm kind of confused as it should've been pretty easy and straight forward. I rebooted a couple of times and still no go. Anything I can do or should I have her take it to the AT&T store?

This is the deal:
I bought my wife and I Vibrants back in February and from the minute I got it I started looking into updating from eclair.
I was following the info on xda after researching about rooting phones, so I rooted my phone using the Superonclick method. Just before getting ready to flash custom roms, I read that froyo was available through kies. So I did that. It worked well enough for me, so I updated my wife's phone as well and hers works beautifully. I also changed the home launcher to LauncherPro. love it.
Mine however has been going on the fritz. I'm in the middle of using an app or I'm doing nothing at but turning on my phone and the screen will be all black with nothing but the notification bar showing.
The media scanner is constantly running.
No gsm is detected.
I keeps vibrating after touching the screen.
No amount of turning it on and off gets it past that state.
It just randomly decided to start working on its own.
Any Ideas?
Should I unRoot my phone. I don't want to,
I'm still researching changing the bootanimation, (waiting for a Portal 2 theme, also researching how to do it myself).
SOS guys.
sorry if tldr.
I would suggest restoring your phone back to stock Via Odin, and starting fresh. The problem you most likely had is that you updated to Froyo through Kie's while your phone was rooted.
Or, at the very least do a factory reset on your phone.
But if you need to go the Odin route, just search the forum, can't miss it.
oh wow, I didn't know that was an issue updating while rooted. I must have missed something while reading (so many threads -_-).
Guess I have some more light reading to do...
thanks.
Did a little research, should I unroot my phone first before factory reset? or is there a method that will take care of removing the root?
Hello all. I've been reading with much dread on the changes to my phone with the Verizon forced OTA update. I really don't care about the extra battery bar, and didn't want to have my battery life wasted by the Verizon Location bloatware. I caught my phone twice trying to install the OTA, and I defered it until tomorrow.
That's when I notice you can "reject" the update. Currently if you go into settings, status, you can then click on reject. It appears the OTA will not install.
Hope this helps,
BOBBY
PS- I have a screen shot but can't post a Photobucket link as a new member yet.
I read on here that it will be forced upon you on Feb. 5.
Don't be afraid...
Nope
I rejected the OTA a couple of times; didn't stop it from installing when I wasn't looking a few days ago.
It really sucks that you can't permanently reject an update if you don't want it.
My son has a DroidX that is bone stock. He doesn't care about mods whatever, his phone is all beat up and he could care less what the wallpaper/icons etc are. He just wants it to work.
When the GB update came out for it, he absolutely DID NOT want it but eventually it installed anyway and his phone has been really messed up ever since (it worked fine before the update)
He has so many apps installed that he really doesn't want to factory reset it ( he doesn't even know where he got half of them) but it is going to have to be reset soon.

Ever since the update my phone seems to lag just a little bit when scrolling screens in sense. Or has it always been this way and I'm just noticing?

You can always save it for later.
The file is called OTAPkg.zip and should be in /cache/fumo. You can just download it and postpone the install then move it out to somewhere where you can always use it at a later date.
I got my Rezound last week and I'm loving it. Right now I'm running stock, however i will be rooting in the foreseeable future. However i noticed a couple of times when i had to Restart my phone that the recent OTA update would DL only to fail to install. I don't want the update as i've heard and seen it reduces battery life. Should i worry my phone is defective? a couple of more days so i can return it and get another one. Would that be wise? thoughts?
You haven't done anything to it? If you haven't just take it to the Verizon store and have them look at it. If they can't get the update on exchange it. There's no reason why it shouldn't accept the update if you haven't done anything afaik.

I've not done anything, still running full stock. That's what i was thinking, i don't want this to come back and bite me in the ass. Plus i still have the 14 days to bring it directly to verizon. thanks
I am exeriencing the same thing...happened several times; firmware downloads and nothing happens. I reboot and nothin. The phone is stock. The last time after rebooting, it showed a push air thing in the notificication, and when I clicked it nothin happened...oy.
When I check the status, it just shows a rescent date along with the description of the update...and nothing happens when I click check new.
I sorta want the update so I can get rid of the headphone jack noise...and I feel like if I go to a verizon store, not much will be accomplished...hmmmmm

I went to Verizon today and the guy was able to update my phone. I actually didn't want to but eh. I told him what he did and all he told me was "Check Update" and plug it in the to the charger *which is the way my phone had been when i tried updating* and it began to install.
Hmm still nothing happens when I click check new, tried with it charging and unplugged... Might pop into a store later and see what's up, phone keeps freezing on meh! Have any negative experiences from the update so far? I'm weary of that verizon agent thing running all the time

I had the same issue with the "check new" screen just disappearing when I was completely stock. I called verizon a couple days ago and they checked to make sure that I had tried to update with 4G, 3G, 4G w/ wireless, 3G w/ wireless. I had also tried doing a factory reset and pulling the SIM and battery out for 20 minutes. If all those dont work for you, they say you can either get a "certified like new" phone shipped to you or you can get on a 3way call with htc and verizon support to get the issue resolved. You might want to try those things and if still nothing I would call.
I will make this short as possible. My friend has a VZW RAZR, all stock the way it comes from the store, no root, no mods. The past couple weeks he has told me his LTE hasn't been working. He was unable to get the ICS OTA to install, he tried several times. I went to help him Saturday and have been doing some reading and such. It always fails on the install about a third of the way through the progress bar. I learned that holding both volume buttons brings up the text saying what the install process is doing and eventually the error. Sure enough, every time it gets to the LTE part it errors and fails, apparently his LTE just decided to kill itself a few weeks ago. Even a factory reset didn't solve anything. Anyways I plan to go help him later this evening and I was hoping to get some directing how I can manually install the update or what it is I need to do to fix the LTE error and complete the OTA. Any help is much appreciated!!
EDIT: Whoops, forgot to mention I know about this thread and this is what I plan to try if nothing else. I just couldn't find anything in the forums about LTE crapping out for no reason. Anybody think this is the method I should try or have a different suggestion?
There was some OTA update that Verizon pushed out, and I've had pop ups on my phone for over a week now trying to trick me into updating it. I had it rooted so I avoided them until I could find time to look up the status of upgrading without root.
Now just a few minutes ago, I tried to open and app and the System Update pop-up appeared, right underneath my finger as I tapped on the screen, conveniently hitting the "Install Now" button. The phone immediately shut off, and then installed updates on boot. I tried to stop it but there was not anything I could do. After it got done updating, I went into BootStrap and started doing a system backup, which is progressing at a snail's pace. But I dont think I have any old backups, if I do it would be from right after I rooted it.
Any suggestions for what to do next? I have to go to class in a few minutes lasting until late tonight, wont even have time to screw with this thing for a couple more days. Right now I can't even use it because of Bootstrap going so slow. I was lucky I even had enough SD card space left to save a backup to.
Really pissed off with Verizon & Samsung (?) right now, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This will allow you to root it again, if you want.
Or just downgrade back to NC5.
