Hello all. I've been reading with much dread on the changes to my phone with the Verizon forced OTA update. I really don't care about the extra battery bar, and didn't want to have my battery life wasted by the Verizon Location bloatware. I caught my phone twice trying to install the OTA, and I defered it until tomorrow.
That's when I notice you can "reject" the update. Currently if you go into settings, status, you can then click on reject. It appears the OTA will not install.
Hope this helps,
BOBBY
PS- I have a screen shot but can't post a Photobucket link as a new member yet.
I read on here that it will be forced upon you on Feb. 5.
Don't be afraid...
Nope
I rejected the OTA a couple of times; didn't stop it from installing when I wasn't looking a few days ago.
It really sucks that you can't permanently reject an update if you don't want it.
My son has a DroidX that is bone stock. He doesn't care about mods whatever, his phone is all beat up and he could care less what the wallpaper/icons etc are. He just wants it to work.
When the GB update came out for it, he absolutely DID NOT want it but eventually it installed anyway and his phone has been really messed up ever since (it worked fine before the update)
He has so many apps installed that he really doesn't want to factory reset it ( he doesn't even know where he got half of them) but it is going to have to be reset soon.

My phones actually rejecting it normally. Ive restarted my phone a couple of times and it notifies me that its DL however it just fails to install. I don't want the update right now but i do wonder if that will come back to bite me in the as*
Ever since the update my phone seems to lag just a little bit when scrolling screens in sense. Or has it always been this way and I'm just noticing?

You can always save it for later.
The file is called OTAPkg.zip and should be in /cache/fumo. You can just download it and postpone the install then move it out to somewhere where you can always use it at a later date.

So i notice i had an update, i figured it was the Adfree app since its constantly being upated so i go ahead and click it. Next thing i know, the screen goes black and says downloading and installing system update. (it didn't look like any of the HTC updates which promps you to choose between wifi) At this point i was like wth is being updated since it gave no log or any details about what the update does, i try to pull the battery but the update finishes before i could remove it. Now i have no idea what just got updated Has anyone gotten an update like that? If so, any ideas what it does?

How would anyone here know unless they were looking over your shoulder ? Just go to settings-about phone-software info. If it says 2.08.621.3, it was the HTC Sprint update. I don't know if the GSM update has a different version, but you can probably find out what the update for that is as well.
I had that too, i had quickly clicked cancel though, dunno what's up
I'm running 2.08.651.2
I just received the same update but no clue on what was updated

I have 2.08.621.3. It didn't look like any previous update since no change log or any details about what was being update was shown. It was just a black screen and nothing else, didn't give me an option to cancel either.

Wired. I'm on .3 here and just did a manual check and got nothing. Not typical for updates to push out to start this late though either.
Checked HTC hub too and nothing.

I found the auto update box checked for htc. I unchecked it, curious if it happens again.
I got the update too but I cancelled it before it installed
I just did a nand restore of a rom based off Zone's that is using bcblends kernel. I let the phone sit for about five minutes after it booted, then checked it and it said "service update complete" in a bubble over my homescreen. My build is still 2.08.651.2.
Yeah everything seems the same at the moment and like others have said it wasn't a typical update it never asked if I wanted to update or not the screen went black and a box appeared and said system update then 3 minutes later said update complete and nothing else after that no change log or anything

Same thing with me. My phone was sitting on the counter after I got off a call. 2 hours later I pick it up and it says update complete. I'm on ViperRom and haven't noticed anything wacky going on so far.
Dying to know what this is about. The only reason I knew is my sister texted me telling me her phone updated (same phone). I told her that was weird and she shouldn't have accepted. Then a moment later mine tried to and I canceled. Ugh. I hate not having explanations.

Add one to the auto update. Running Warm, auto update unchecked as always, was on a call with screen off and when I hung up had the popup saying update will now be applied. Still have root so no worries.

I got my Rezound last week and I'm loving it. Right now I'm running stock, however i will be rooting in the foreseeable future. However i noticed a couple of times when i had to Restart my phone that the recent OTA update would DL only to fail to install. I don't want the update as i've heard and seen it reduces battery life. Should i worry my phone is defective? a couple of more days so i can return it and get another one. Would that be wise? thoughts?
You haven't done anything to it? If you haven't just take it to the Verizon store and have them look at it. If they can't get the update on exchange it. There's no reason why it shouldn't accept the update if you haven't done anything afaik.

I've not done anything, still running full stock. That's what i was thinking, i don't want this to come back and bite me in the ass. Plus i still have the 14 days to bring it directly to verizon. thanks
I am exeriencing the same thing...happened several times; firmware downloads and nothing happens. I reboot and nothin. The phone is stock. The last time after rebooting, it showed a push air thing in the notificication, and when I clicked it nothin happened...oy.
When I check the status, it just shows a rescent date along with the description of the update...and nothing happens when I click check new.
I sorta want the update so I can get rid of the headphone jack noise...and I feel like if I go to a verizon store, not much will be accomplished...hmmmmm

I went to Verizon today and the guy was able to update my phone. I actually didn't want to but eh. I told him what he did and all he told me was "Check Update" and plug it in the to the charger *which is the way my phone had been when i tried updating* and it began to install.
Hmm still nothing happens when I click check new, tried with it charging and unplugged... Might pop into a store later and see what's up, phone keeps freezing on meh! Have any negative experiences from the update so far? I'm weary of that verizon agent thing running all the time

I had the same issue with the "check new" screen just disappearing when I was completely stock. I called verizon a couple days ago and they checked to make sure that I had tried to update with 4G, 3G, 4G w/ wireless, 3G w/ wireless. I had also tried doing a factory reset and pulling the SIM and battery out for 20 minutes. If all those dont work for you, they say you can either get a "certified like new" phone shipped to you or you can get on a 3way call with htc and verizon support to get the issue resolved. You might want to try those things and if still nothing I would call.
There was some OTA update that Verizon pushed out, and I've had pop ups on my phone for over a week now trying to trick me into updating it. I had it rooted so I avoided them until I could find time to look up the status of upgrading without root.
Now just a few minutes ago, I tried to open and app and the System Update pop-up appeared, right underneath my finger as I tapped on the screen, conveniently hitting the "Install Now" button. The phone immediately shut off, and then installed updates on boot. I tried to stop it but there was not anything I could do. After it got done updating, I went into BootStrap and started doing a system backup, which is progressing at a snail's pace. But I dont think I have any old backups, if I do it would be from right after I rooted it.
Any suggestions for what to do next? I have to go to class in a few minutes lasting until late tonight, wont even have time to screw with this thing for a couple more days. Right now I can't even use it because of Bootstrap going so slow. I was lucky I even had enough SD card space left to save a backup to.
Really pissed off with Verizon & Samsung (?) right now, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This will allow you to root it again, if you want.
Or just downgrade back to NC5.
So after weeks of saying "no, thanks" to the Lollipop update, Verizon decided yesterday to force it down our throats. Many reports on the Verizon LG G3 community page, as well as other Android sites. Basically, the update starts downloading by itself (even if you have WiFi off!!).
I am now at the point where I get a screen asking to "install now" or "install later". The "later" option only offers another time in the day, there is just no way to cancel the darn thing.
Based on the myriads of reports of bugs and issues with WiFi, battery, etc., I definitely do not want it. Is there any way to not have it installed? I am extremely pissed off that Verizon is forcing us to take this "update" when they clearly have to know it is a piece of crap full of bugs.
Stock, non-rooted Verizon LG G3.

This is far from new, afaik Verizon always does this for every phone and OTA (I've witnessed it myself on every single device I've owned at least). The only way to stop it would be to root and freeze the system update apk's. One more reason why I'll never own a Verizon device I can't root and unlock.

Sure it's always been easy, just say no or root and load a better custom stock based ROM from the forum.
Or root and load a bug fixed much better stock lollipop from the forum.
Easy as pie and nothing new so stop freaking.
I was rooted 12, just updated to a skydragon 23c Rom, with 4.1 kernel, last night. Pretty painless.
Anyhow, to not take an update you need to disable/freeze or rename the System updates app. Once it's downloaded to your phone, you need to purge the errant update. I'm pretty sure bweN diorD's reference thread had a link to the thread on purging the dl'd update.

There is a section on removing a downloaded OTA.

Root and you can block it.
You cannot indefinitely block an OTA without root.
Forced to update
I downloaded the update but it wont do anything until you choose install from the System Ready To Install Screen. When you see "install now or install later",Just hit the back button and it will not install. You will keep getting a "System Update Ready to install message" but its easily ignored. I have been doing this for a few days and I'm still running Kit Kat
It'll only download when on wifi, so if you catch it (which I always do thanks to Pushbullet notifications), I just turn off wifi. It'll stop the download stating that wifi is needed, and when turning back on wifi, you'll be good. I've only had to do this twice so far over the last few weeks.

That used to be true (download on WiFi only) for weeks, but starting this week, the download is happening automatically even with WiFi off. Multiple reports of this on the LG G3 Verizon community page. So the update already downloaded. I have been able to avoid installation by force closing the System Update app, but I know I'll have to continue doing it over and over. I just think it sucks that Verizon is aggressively forcing the upgrade on users who do not want it.

Ah, I haven't gotten the notification this week, I think mid-last week while at work. I'll have to be on the lookout now.
Sunday evening, I went through HELL fixing my phone. Once I realized a text wouldn't go through, I tried the data and calling. Only data worked. I've rooted my phones since the Evo 4G and never had this issue before. I called Sprint at 3:30pm, spent an hr which got me nowhere and actually made it worse. She told me to do the ##72786# which shows the MDN and MSID. I've done this in the past for activation sake on previous phones, on the M9 it doesn't allow you to manually change the values which was a major problem. Once i did the reset, both values were the same and incorrect. At this point I was like OH SHIIT, cause I just realized you can't manually input the values. And because those values have to be your number, I knew was screwed...after the restart I lost my LTE as well since Sprint didn't know this was my phone due to no MDN/MSID values. I thought for sure I would have to do a new fresh install which I did NOT want to do as everything with the phone was perfect and a fresh install takes a looot of time to backup everything, reinstall, make sure settings and everything are like before. I told her to activate my S7 and reactivate the M9 to see if that did the trick to force the M9 into hands free activation and push through the MDN/MSID. I wasn't hopeful at all since I activated the M9 BEFORE I rooted it just to be sure and also cause I bought it off ebay so had to make sure all way well.
Once i got off the phone, I started searching on google/xda for a solution. It's quite a specific issue and similar ones were sparse and had a range of reasons for the issue. Mind you, all was well before this, it's basically the stock Venom rom, no major tweaking and this issue just randomly appeared for no apparent reason. I never used Titanium Backup up to this point(1 yr using the phone) or any Rom backups so I was like, might as well since I'm gonna have to start flashing to see if it fixes it. First I flashed the venom rom to see if a fresh flash did the trick...possibly the clean install requests MDN/MSID from Sprint to get the phone working. Didn't fix it. Next, I flashed the stock rooted rom which thankfully I saved when I first rooted the phone. Phone booted up, BINGO! Instant 4g connection. Phew, thank God. Then, I flashed venom again but with a full wipe to see if the stock install carried the MDN/MSID over, didn't fix it. I was so pisssed cause at this point I knew I was screwed.
Mind you, backing up/flashing and at the same time searching and trouble shooting is VERY time consuming! A fresh flash/boot alone takes maybe 10 min. I was also doing some extensive searching for the best SMS/MMS backup out there as I always keep my text records(which I'm making another thread to discuss). It's almost midnight and im PISSSED. My entire Sunday evening wasted and a random stupid problem on my phone that came out of the blue for NO reason. I'm guessing Sprint did some network update and the phone need a Profile/PRL update which it couldnt get. Not sure how that works.
I can't find the thread it was mentioned in, and I searched MANY, but someone mentioned the Sprint PRL patch(for a different issue) in Venom Hub. I didn't think that would do anything as that's preferred roaming list. I had nothing to lose and it was a Sprint specific patch so I tried it. I never used Venom Hub as I mentioned the phone is pretty much stock venom so I didn't know it was there. Prior to this I checked Venom tweaks, nothing of course. Phone restarts, still no data. I go to the settings mainly to see "phone information" and what do you know, "System Updates" is there. I click Update Profile, phone restarts, and BAM we are back online! You have no idea how happy I was! Was able to keep my phone as it was with no wipe/fresh start!
I don't know why software updates was removed in the first place! That's why I NEVER had this issue or data/call/text issues on previous phones, as I would periodically do a Profile/PRL update for good measure. Any1 know why it was removed?!? This is a vital feature to have on the phone! Mind you I never had issues, but you have no other options once you do run into an issue like this other than to do the Profile update. I don't see why they removed it, it's not bothering anything or taking up space/resources/etc. To my understanding from prior phones and years of rooting, it's standard procedure to do Profile/PRL updates from time to time to "sync/update" the phone when network/tower updates are done with Sprint.
I know this post is looong, but I literally spent from 3:30pm to 1:30am this Sunday talking to Sprint, flashing, backing up, researching. I was beyond pissed as the hrs went by with no solution on hand(I did NOT want to start fresh). This is my first post ever and my first time becoming a member for this reason. This issue is rare as I never, ever had an issue like this, but if any1 else out there runs into it, I hope they find this thread!
