SdCards and stuff - Motorola Droid X2

Answer found, should have searched better. Mods please delete this thread.

I think it would be better if we left your original post intact, along with your question and the answer you found. This should be moved to general though, but it will help those who may have the same question as you. Thanks! (Please edit your post and add your question and the answer you came to. lol.)

Ok, you are the boss! I was sitting here being annoyed by the sdcard and sdcard-ext setup for this phone, and got the bright idea to try and switch the folder names using root explorer. I posted to ask if anyone knew if that would work, and any potential consequences from this. I then go back to the x2 developers forum, and RIGHT THERE near the top was the perfect solution, which I will link to in a moment. I neglected to use the search function since I *thought* I had previously at least glanced at all the threads... could have saved myself hours of annoyance and hard thinking, had I only SEARCHED!

[Q] help with rom

I have a rooted fascinate but cant seem to be able to get a rom. I am a complete dumbass who shouldnt be jacking with my phone but am sick of the bloatware and freezes. When i go to clockwork mod the color is blue with white. i am challenged so please be very specific thanks
You really need to start reading. There is plenty of information here in the forums, but if you try to get it spoon-fed, you'll end up frustrated because you don't really understand what you did.
Start here, go slowly, and follow directions. If you have specific questions, post them here (in Q&A).
I find it helpful to read ALL of the posts in a particular ROMs thread because even if I don't have a particular issue now, I might in the future. (Plus, if you come in asking questions that were just answered two pages ago - and every two pages before that - it just frustrates the people you are looking for help from.)

sorry i posted the way i did. I was very frustrated, i rooted my phone at a friends house and had no problems, when i got home and tried to get a rom it just doesnt seem to work on my computer. Sorry for posting the way i did. Thanks
No worries ... but really it is best if you dig in. As long as you follow directions carefully, things should go smoothly, and the more you do it, the more it makes sense. Perhaps you could post some details about what you've tried and where it has failed.
I found the search function here doesn't work that well. What works best for me is doing a google search. Usually it pulls up the xda thread I was looking for. Thats how I learned.

Miui camera with ffc support

I'm trying to get the latest camera, v17 I think, onto my thunderbolt. I downloaded the Miui rom for the Nexus S since it is the only one I know of with FCC support. I then pulled the camera apk out of that rom. The apk was signed, installed on my phone, and had its set permissions set, however it still FCs. Does anybody have any idea why it is not working?
I've attached the apk in case anybody is interested.
Ok, really, this is a question, not a dev thread...
Maybe because it was made for the Nexus S, which isn't the Thunderbolt.

You know I was just searching for something similar to this. But you know, I just want to stop and say, fu$% you g00s3y, take your comment which was about as helpful as a limp **** at a porno shoot, and shove it firmly where the sun does not shine. I am sick to death of the attitude that you portray here ruining this website for people.

Sorry, you are right. I am just growing very tired of attitude here. When posting to correct others on what forum to post in, or be a smart ass becomes more important than actually helping, there is a problem

When people don't take the time to search or post in the appropriate places making threads unnecessarily long and flooding them to the point that others with appropriate questions for that thread don't get answers and many stop even attempting to skim, there is a problem
A place for everything and everything in its place.
I know this is off-topic of the OP and I'm not intending to fan any flames. I just don't think people that actually want to improve this place should be the ones getting *****ed at. Try pointing the criticizing finger at the ones that are too lazy to spend the 2sec search to find the answer or appropriate forum themselves.
And yes, I realize that by posting this in this thread, I'm somewhat acting in contradiction to what I've said. But, when in Rome, eh? It's on topic of the last few posts anyway.

Posts such as his simply make it impossible for those of us that do search, to find real answers. Which is exactly what happened, I searched, and found posts that looked to have answers, instead I find someone complaining about where the post is.
If you want to make this a better place, you educate, but still help, then when later people come looking, there is an answer too.
Everyone should have realized by now that some people just won't search. For whatever reason, be it lazyness or ignorance, its going to happen. Cursing and flaming isn't going to help the situation at all. I understand people get upset, but we need to understand that its going to happen.

So how did you get it working? I tried from the link in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12164180&postcount=1 and it doesn't work. I flashed, then pulled the apk into /system/APP, then installed the APK (the method outlined in the thread) and it didn't work. I also just tried installing the APK from that zip independently, but it didn't work.
Also, FWIW, I searched Google and it took me here, so flaming about not searching doesn't really help those of us who actually searched.

Most of that information is horribly horribly outdated. Example, not being able to flash att software on a bell or international atrix. I' ve done it a hundred times. Even lots of pre-bootloader unlock information is still posted as "the way to go".. This thread is a great way to breathe new life into the atrix, relevent ,updated questions and answers , and new working links being one asset. I for one, have some very complex questions and the "noob" info just ain't gonna cut it. I'm starting off simple but I am an advanced android user just new with the atrix and I need to ping-pong and brainstorm with other users at the same level and figured this was a great way to troll the xda site for those more advanced users. And I know the thread will grow because if I'm asking these atrix hardware specefic questions surely there are many others that would like to know the same. If I'm in any way wrong, I'm sure a moderator on the worlds most informative cellular reference site will take this thread down..

Swiftks wrote the N00B guide quite some time ago before he was a forum moderator, and yes, a lot of the information in it is outdated now.
We have a Q&A section, which is where you posted this. If you would like an updated N00B guide then you will probably have to create one yourself, as I doubt Swift has the time to go through and update his. Posting a thread where people ask questions which are then answered in the thread will just cause things to end up being buried deep within pages of one thread. That's why there is a whole Q&A section. New questions are visible, and it's easier to search for already answered questions.
Additionally, any questions you ask have probably already been asked and answered, and on top of that, any answers you put in here may at some point become outdated also, and who will moderate keeping everything up to date in this thread. Much easier to just have the Q&A section which currently exists.
Oh ok .. my bad.. I was probably being a little greedy trying to create one place that had somewhat updated information and especially links.. kinda all in one spot newish. I definitely see your point but figured with some of the silly-fun posting, like ban the one above you, the forum could afford the hard drive space with another thread.. I can abandon the thread if everyone feels it should be... one thing for sure there wouldn't be any megaupload links in it, *yay* lol
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
Also, the problems I am having no one seems to have a straight answer.. bp issues seem to be taboo, and subject has been barely touched.. once I resolve these issues im having, my activities in the ATRIX forum will be pretty much helping other users with the information i've learned along the way to getting this horribly ota messed up 'trix up,running, and stable..
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
Oops.. I see what might have happened here. I made a mistake in using the wrong terminology. I didn't mean a new thread, I just meant the subject within the q&a thread. . Not sure but does that seem to make more sense caelant? Bottom line, I'd like to be able to come to xda/Motorola atrix/ q&a/,, I dunno, "q&a/atrix woes" for example, for new up to date information/links on problems that many people seem to be having at this time. . Problems such having to boot in no BP mode, ext 3-4 questions, more info on the recovery menu with the early usb enumeration option and such and what do all the options in there do and how to use them, file system layout, heat issues, basically problems that I see others are having as well lately.. I'm not lazy or anything, lol, I just think that if I kept all my findings restricted to this one area I'm in now , myself, and other atrix owners would greatly benefit... I have concentrated a lot of my time into each and every android device I've ever worked on, and theres quite a few and I must say this frickin atrix is the trickiest yet.. I love it though and can't put it down I've brought a few black screens back to life and this atrix o/s was damaged by an incomplete/completely botched ota update from bell froyo to GB then back to froyo.. My specialty you could say is finding the weirdest most improbable obstacles in everything I do and overcoming them. I like this atrix, even though the touch screen feels like an old lg gw620 eve,...lol (again). I have come a long way with the bricked unit I was dropped off and believe I can go a lot further if I stay right here.. I am more than willing to share and brainstorm my findings on this project with all the fine atrix users here on xda.. if I'm outta line , please people speak up..I think this whole idea can do no harm, and can only see positive results. I dunno, flame me people if I'm mistaken.. All the typing I've already done here I could of solved all the issues and shared the information. I know i could be a real asset to many Motorola users along with a few other manufactured brands here on xda....I'm new here but nit at the game.. seems this area is already getting polluted with my explaining my actions, which is exactly what I wanted to get away from. I do over explain don't i....but I do like to try to be thorough.. Grin.. cheers guys.. let's let majority rule..

Not trying to flame you. I just see a Q&A thread in a Q&A forum as kind of redundant.
My advice would be search for any relevant threads and post in the thread specific to your issue/problem. If there is nothing that is quite the same as your issue/problem, then just create a new thread. I think one of the main things is making sure the thread title clearly states what the thread is about, and make sure to state it is not the same as any similar problems you have found in searches.
Also a good idea to mark a thread as [SOLVED] when it has been, and also make sure to post in the thread what the resolution was so others can see it.
Excellent , very well stated.Keen outlook you have I will admit.,I assumed as much looking over your busy post history. I wouldn't go as far as saying redundant though considering you must assume I have searched for the relevant information I need prior to even thinking of opening this subject "sub thread", (for lack of a better word), I'm just getting a little frustrated with this particular phone because I feel its all about this BP issue and I can't, for the life of me anywhere find much BP information about the atrix. You'd think with such options in the volume down boot menu as the trix has there'd be tons of information on repairing BP issues considering there's 4 or 5 options directly related to it in that fast boot menu.. Between trying to isolate applications and processes which are causing random/frequent reboots and repairing this BP error I must say I'm almost at wits end. Perhaps if you had these problems you might see that pertinent information is next to nill and very vague totally irrevelant or just pkain amature.. I really respect your advice and thank you for it, I can tell you also have a sharp mind, I'm just having a little trouble understanding why you wouldn't support an area, any area where dead links , outdated information, and general chit-chat about unrelated topics would be at a minimum. I'm so fed up of wading through mega-dead-load links, unrelated questions , and inexperienced advice. I don't have the time for that and its looking endless.. I've only had one brick in my repertoire, an x10, and it died mysteriously in my wifeys purse, and patience is running thin for me. I don't want to give up on a phone and throw it in the parts drawer, one that I've brought back to life and is scoring 4000 ish in quadrant scores, but I've been searching for about two weeks now and I've found next to nothing valuable besides a few nice fastwipe scripts. Really zero information on what I know is a common enough problem . What does everyone do, just junk such an intriguing piece of equipment? I'd Hate to say , sometime down the road, I used to have an atrix, worked well now and then, but there was one problem I just couldn't beat. That's gonna eat me up.. while it runs and doesn't reboot it makes my tweaked out infuse look silly and is Running close to my s2. I'm just about out of energy on this one. Has no one in the world fixed or even explored repairing BP issues? Thanks for listening caelent but let's not state the obvious.

[Q] SGH-i777 will not load after trying rom manager backup

I've been google searching and looking through forums for 3 hours and I'm not finding a good answer or answers close but I'm afraid to mess with it further without at least seeing if someone has a good idea for an easier fix.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 AT&T (SGH-i777) that was running ICS. I used odin3 v1.85 on my pc with Siyah-v3.4.2-nomswap-I777 to give me superuser. Phone worked fine for a day. Later I downloaded rommanager. I was wanting to make a backup of my rom but it asked me to install ClockworkMod. I went through and picked it and it downloaded/installed. Then I went to run the backup but rommanager hung and it wouldn't finish. I chose to "wait" for two times but then the third I force closed. When I tried to load rommanager up again it froze my phone. I pulled my battery out and tried to boot. I think I got the start screen with the yellow triangle and then black screen. I tried to power it on again and nothing. Then my screen did a very faint power on and off every 10 seconds until I pulled the battery out. I was able to get into the "odin mode" using the volume up/down + power. I tried to run the Siyah again just to see if it did anything but no dice
My fear was that I selected the wrong clockworkmod? I've tried finding finding the right clockworkmod that I can use with odin. I found recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxys2att.zip but I'm afraid it isn't the right thing (isn't a tar file) and so I've not done anything as a result. Does this sound like i f'ed up in loading the wrong clockworkmod? Is there a tar file I can use with Odin to fix the mistake so the phone will boot/load? I assume if nothing else I can just load a custom rom or start fresh but, if possible, I would really like to repair my mistake so I can save some files and backup apps. Thanks for any help or ideas!

WOW! You have been a member here long enough (since 2009), now I understand some of us do not post as much. But you should have seen the stickies at the top of the forum with a big WARNING SIGN on it. I guess you choose to ignor the warning... :silly:
Why did you even think of using ROM Manager when all you had to do is reboot into recovery and do it from there?
Wow...
Wow...first off thanks for being absolutely not helpful. You mean the sticky that tells me not to do what I already did? You mean the sticky that in none of the five pages of posts has an answer to my question or issue (really just a long rant about people who make a mistake)? You mean the sticky I didn't read because I was using a different (I know now in retrospect not so great) website? And I get berated because I visited this website three years ago to make one comment on a post about a windows mobile topic? Did you all get so many posts by antagonizing others asking for help and not posting much useful to the actual request? Unless I am wrong I posted in the "Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" section of this website but from what I get so far I think it might be the "Place for snarky comments & unhelpful responses without reading a question".
In the hopes that someone wants to be helpful, I would really like to know if there is a way to fix the issue by using Odin to put the right clockworkmod recovery on the device. If so I appreciate any help on locating where I might find the right file. If this is an issue that can't be fixed and my only choice is to flash a new rom then that is helpful too. Thanks.

It's called you should research your problem before posting it. And the fact that you're trying to put cwm on there without flashing a kernel tells me that you need to do some reading up on this device before you so any kind of modding. Otherwise you'll end up with a paperweight.
Sent from my Zanpakuto using Getsuga Tensho!
+1 to nick comments. As everyone already stated. Read those links. And all you need to do is flash the kernel. It has the CWM recovery builded into it. Use AJ's siyah kernel.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
Exactly. The fact that he's still saying he wants the"right"version of cwm means he still hasn't read the stickies or read enough about this device to make informed decisions. Just do some reading, and take your time. Not every device is the same. Don't want to end up messing yourself up. Which, as previously stated, could've been avoided . Good luck.

Is there a particular reason you want this particular root? I know it has some extra perks, like some "debloating", but it's not a huge difference from the other root methods.

Why do I have to have a reason for wanting it? This thread is near the top of the non-sticky threads in the Dev section, and yet the main file referenced in the thread is inaccessible. Kind of defeats the purpose of the whole thread.
Of course you don't have to have a reason. I was just trying to be helpful by pointing out that there are alternatives. You're asking for oldish rather big file and it would mean someone would have to make a bit of an effort to help you and maybe they'd be more inclined if they know you had made an informed choice and just not jumped on the first train you saw. Believe me, it happens way to often here!
