Is it advisable to update to market 3.1.3 ? Or could it brick my phone?

You cannot update the market app to 3.x because it don’t work on android 2.1

why uninstall the market fully?
if market starts to malfunction just go to settings--->applications to delete the market updates (that'll bring you to the oldest version of market installed in your rom)
It doesn't even show the uninstall option and its a custom market i think its named BlackMarketApp.

Hi I'm currently using an xperia x10 running Android 2.2 with market version 2.2.11 . Lately the market says update unsuccessful for all my updates and I cannot install new apps because it says unknown error. PLEASE ASK FOR MORE DETAILS IF IT HELPS SOLVE MY PROBLEM! I really want my market to be working again

Yes it is possible to install.
I did and it looks and works great.
Get the apk from following post

Install as a normal apk
If you don't like you can uninstall it as well.

I just uninstalled new market, installed old market and from Titanium Backup froze the market updater apk. Or you can disable updater in terminal on your phone:
su
pm disable com.android.vending.updater

go to settings>application>manage applications>play store. press uninstall updates. then freeze market updater using titanium backup(paid) or link2sd(free).
then wala. you got yourself the old unlaggy old android market.

The official market on ics is the next laggy version and the good version is the official for gb

Hello, I'm running the latest CM7 rom (CM7.2) and using the Glitch v13.1 kernel. I am having a problem with the Play Store. On some apps it says "Your device is not compatible with this version." or something to that effect. How can I fix this issue? Thanks!

Its a ROM issue, not market issue. You need market unlocker, or download free apk from anywhere else, and install manually
