Tried two pairs of headphones now and they both don't work properly at all. A pair of htc ones and some apple ones. Do SE phones have to have SE headphones to work properly or have I been sold a faulty phone?

Found my answer. SE played dirty and switched some connections. So I need to buy an adapter or pay for SE headphones... Sigh.

Are you talking about 'headphones' or 'headsets'? Headphones don't have any microphone components while headsets do.
Most any normal set of headphones with a 3.5mm stereo connector should work fine with the X10.
The only thing to be careful of are the noise-canceling type of headphones. The 3.5mm connectors for those can vary in design that may be specific to whatever device they ship with. Incompatibilities can then be no sound from the headset or sound from just one ear bud when plugged into a different device.
If you're referring to headsets, then those can also have compatibility issues too due to product-specific differences in 3.5mm connector designs.
Yeah they were both headsets I tested actually. So regular headphones would work fine? I don't have any lying around so would have to buy some.

Yep. Regular stereo headphones with a 3.5mm connector should work.
i bought skullcandys, not realising they had a mic on them, but if you notice the mike part may have a button on it?? mines did and when pressed sound came out fine so i just glued it down, now they work perfect

hi,
already asked this on the official sony-erricson forum but no response, so maybe someone here can help....
has anyone managed to connect an external microphone to the x10 for video recording? maybe with some kind of self-made adapter?
not talking about hands-free sets but rather a more "professional" recording microphone.
i already tried to connect various external microphones (active and non-active) to the phone but then i only get statics / clicking noises.
reason i'm asking is i took a video at a concert but the sound is clipping really bad... really a shame especially with upcoming 720p recording....
(maybe another solution would be if it was possible to adjust the sound recording level... any app for that?)
It should be possible to add an external microphone. You probably will need a homemade adapter. The headphone/microphone jack is a TRRS connector (tip, ring, ring, sleeve). Check Wikipedia for TRS. The "pinout" is listed there.

So if you just plug the handsfree in with and/or without the headphones as well, it records audio (voice memo and video)?

yes, you can use the hands-free (with or without the headphone part) as a microphone when recording video... quality is a little better than the internal microphone but still not really good...

thank you argnom... . now i know what to search for..
there seem to be some adapters for the iphone that split the trrs connector into seperate microphone/headset connectors... maybe i will try one of these... or is the wiring different on the x10 from the iphone?
www . showmecables.com/viewItem.asp?idProduct=8335
edit: think i found the one i need (IF the wiring is the same as for the iphone...)
www . kvconnection.com/product-p/km-iphone-mic.htm
I really don't know if the wires are in the same order... I suppose they should be.

any more info to back this up? did you try it yourself? (what mics did you try?) or read it somewhere? (link?)
I've tried everything single brand. Dr dre beats, shure, sennheiser, any headphones or earbuds that have mic it won't work with x10. You can use x10 headset that came in box with regular earbuds or headphones

Using Bose in ears and works fine since legit 2.1 through 2.3 right now. Could be the brand although unlikely because used to use iphone buds and didn't work with 2.1...

I haven't had any problem with phones...
I had problems with the apple headphones w/mic, but the apple ones without the mic worked perfectly... it must be something to do with the mic, cause now im using skullcandy inkd (no mic) and so far Ive had no problems.

yes
the problem is with the mic on the SE headset...i connected it to my blackberry...still same problem
connected headphones to ipod via the mic..same problem...without mic no problem
so mic is the culprit
On normal headphones there are three contacts on the jack: left right and ground.
On on headsets that also have a microphone there are four: left right ground and mic.
If you have to press the button for the audio to be normal then mic and ground need to be switched. All of the SE headsets are like this by default but they suck, so we can get an extension cable and cut it and reconnect it switching ground and mic. If such a cable exists. I cant find one and scrapped a variety of adapters to make an equivalent. If you would like to give it a shot you have to switch the two contacts farthest from the tip.
All of my normal headphones work no problem, so if anyone has problems with those it's a mystery to me.
Anyways we can all thank SE for this.
its okay
i bought a MW600 and ended all my problems
working fine
I found a fix for the Titan's but it does include soldering and possibly losing the mic function but if you're not bothered about that then give this a shot!
What I did was to open up the mic module and play around by bridging certain areas together. What I found was that on 1 side of the circuit inside there is a tiny resistor/cap which when bridged brings the sound of the headphones back to normal so what I did was simply solder over the cap/resistor which then brought my headphones back to life!
The reason that people have problems with these headphones is because they are set up for Apple devices and because of this 2 wires are switched around, mic and ground I believe! So, If you go out specifically to buy any of these type of headphones then make sure that they're not Apple specific and that they are universal otherwise you'll come across the above problem.
This quick fix may work for other Skullcandy headphones that are designed for Apple products but i can't guarantee it as I only have the Titan's!
Hope this helps some of you out and saves you a few penny's in the long run!
Went on ebay and saw some 3.5mm antennas for phones... anyone know if these will work with the fm radio app and allow speaker to play the music? Would be cool for those chill around-the-bonfire nights
Obviously I can just pandora, but just looking for a cool way to utilize the fm radio

I think that our phones would recognise it like a regular headset. i dont think that you will face any problems using it like an antenna... u can use any metal object as an antenna if u can fool the phone to think that u have a headset plugged in

thanks for this... i feel very silly here tho... I had no idea i could just plug in a basic headset and select to play through speaker. I guess i through myself off because i didn't even open the SE headphones and tried plugging in my Klipsch S4i's and the phone wouldn't register that a headset was plugged in...
anyways, my work had a pair of cheap earbuds under 4 dollars, so i bought em and clipped off the cable... now its a 3.5mm stub for fm radio use
You can try the app - FM Radio Speaker is an easy-to-use tool that can turn on the speaker to play when the headphones are inserted.

Hello,
So I have sadly found out that our superphone has strange TRRS pinouts for wired headsets. I own a pair of Ultimateears 600vi and the sound is great, the mic doesn't work, but the center button does and on plug in, it is recognized as earphones and not a headset. On the V-Moda Vibe Duo I own, both the center button and mic work and it registers as a headset. Both headsets work perfectly with my DINC (they just didn't sound as good).
I did a bit of research and found that Sammy phones can be a bit of a pain with compatibility. Does anyone out there have some advice for adapters? I purchased this thinking that there may have been some iPhone wiring mucking up the works, but the adapter only made the sound worse and didn't fix the mic.
Anyone learn what pinouts work with Sammy's?
Thanks,
Joe
Noticed this also. Two different Sennheiser headsets, one works and one has no mic. The px200-II have no mic and the cc550 works fine.
Both worked with sgs2

My phone is working perfectly fine with something like the default headset, headsets with no Mic etc.. but my razor kraken pro, which is also optimized for phones etc, doesn't work with this device, but every other phone I try. My headset jack is perfectly fine, in fact I just had my whole fun in for a repair and they didn't even notice anything about the headset jack

This is due to the defferent 3.5mm 4-pin standard used in headsets.
Some use OMTP, and some CTIA standard.... basicly, the ground and mic poles are switched.

Mhm does seem weird advertising it as a 3.5 headset which supports all android devices... But yeah it's properly that. Just a little sucky when they're support says it's a problem on my end, and they won't give a refund or anything even though they advertised falsely
Sent from my LG-D620 using XDA Free mobile app
One solution is to buy CTIA to OMTP adapter, as we can be sure your Razer Kraken Pro has CTIA connector since it's advertised for use with iPhone, and iPhone use CTIA standard.
