Link2sd cannot mount 2nd partition - Optimus One, P500, V General

i downloaded the latest link2sd from market.
im on mik's cm7 6.5.7, with franco v19.2
i created a 256 mb ext2 partition using TWRP recovery. ran link2sd, rebooted, didnt mount
everytime i get the messsage: "mount script created, restart ur phone.... If ur getting this message after restarting, this means the 2nd partition cannot be mounted automatically at boot"
i grew suspicious of twrp and prepartioned ext2 uing gparted on my pc (i was using the mount usb storage from the recovery since i dont hv a card reader). no success.
formatted partition as ext3. same result.
formatted as fat32. still nothing.
whats wrong? i can see the 2 partitions clearly when i connect it to pc

if you look in /etc/init.d with root explorer
you can see the the 11link2sd file???
you can try to put the file manually

Just checked.the file is there. To see where's happening, I copied the file to sdcard and ran it manually with script manager.this is the output:
Code:
mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /data/sdext2
failed: Device or resource busy
what's this ?

noticed a strange thing. even though that error is occurring, the 2nd partition is actually getting mounted when i manually try the script. but it doesnt get mounted automatically at boot.
is there any way to see the logs or something of the scrpts run at boottime? franco has disabled logcat and dmesg in his kernel. any other way?

I partitioned through clockworkmod and link2sd is working fine.

If I remember right, I think it has to do with the order of partition. The EXT2 partition used by Links2SD had to be the first partition when I put it on my phone.

i tried with cwm, but its not working. the script is right there in init.d folder, it does have executable permissions, and the partition does get mounted on executing the script manually, inspite of the "Device or resource busy" error. only problem is its not getting mounted at boot. doesnt make any sense to me.....
I'm using a 4gb class 2 sd. Does that have anything to do?
Also, after I reboot and mount manually, all the previously linked apps are gone, while I can still see the apks and dexs on my pc, on the 2nd partition

Try this. Uninstall link2sd, reboot, reinstall link2sd and convert your ext partition to ext3.
If by chance you had used some other linking tool like apps2sd etc., before trying link2sd, it could also cause 'loading at boot' problems.
Hope this helps

Reinstalled link 2 sd. Didn't help.finally I had to do a full wipe and reinstall cm7. Now it works

Tried all the above to no avail
I have an LG-D320. It worked fine when I first rooted it. After months of use, the sd went bad. Bought a new one and partitioned it. Again, everything was fine. Then it just stopped recognizing the second partition- ext2. I have since tried everything from repartitioning, unrooting and rerooting, linux swap partition, ext3, ext4, resetting to factory, upgrading with LG Mobile support tool, Checked out the script in the 11link2sd, installing init.d toggle as the init.d folder didn't exist, ... I still get "the 2nd partition cannot be mounted automatically at boot" no matter how often I uninstall/reinstall link2sd restart and the such. Seems to me that either the permissions are asque or the mount is wrong. I am really over my head with this one. Can anyone offer a solution, please? P.S. It mounts the fat 32.

Maybe the new one is defective.

[Q] Link2sd problem

Hey all I'm running CMD 7.1 (RC) on a Nexus One and I've followed the instructions to partition my sd card from here as ext3, installed link2sd, and get this error:
Mount script error
Mount script cannot be created.
mount: mounting/dev/block/
vold/179:2 on /data/sdext2
failed: Device or resource busy
Anyone have a solution for this? I have searched XDA and Google for a solution, a few posts showed up with the same problem, but the person that starts the thread with the same problem ends up not following their own thread, or finds a solution without explaining how.
I am having the exact same problem, Nexus One with CM7 nightly 214. Tried S2E but it kept screwing up and trashing my EXT partition so I wanted to try Link2SD.
Finally got it to work but I can only get EXT3 partition, tried updating using Amon-Ra and MiniTool Partition but neither updated to EXT4.
In Terminal you can check the type of EXT partition by typing: mount | grep sd-ext
Everything I tried kept giving me only an EXT2 partition, I tried converting to EXT4 using MiniTool Partition Manager which reported a successful conversion but when I checked in terminal it reported EXT2. I then used Amon-Ra recovery to convert from EXT2 to EXT3 and now Link2SD works. Lexar 32GB Class 10 SD. Hope this helps.
Possible solution
I might have just found a solution.
Do you guys use any kind of bk2sdext? (automated backup of app/data to sdext partition, which comes with some ROMs built in)
To find out, go to your build.prop file in /system and check, it's one of the last lines, if it says something like bkup2sdext.enable=1, then disable it (switch 1 to 0), save and restart.
After that either go to ClockworkMod Recovery or just unmount your SD card, in order to FORMAT the sd-ext partition again so that it doesn't contain any data (and doesn't get automatically filled back, because bkup2sdext is off now).
This way I was able to mount it finally.
I think it has something to do with the build.prop AND the sd-ext partition having some other data on it before first mounting with link2sd.
Cheers.

[Q] SD ext Partition: What did I miss?

First of all, I apologize in advance. I searched through everything and can't find my question. I'm a complete smartphone noob (got my first one a couple days ago--Canada's wireless providers are criminally expensive and I boycotted them as long as I could) and, while I'm reasonably good at technical things overall, I'm totally inexperienced here, with smartphones in general, Android, and it's parent OS Linux.
That out of the way: I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace, with Gingerbread 2.3.4 on it, through the provider Koodo. I am loving this phone, but I'm not entirely sure why certain things didn't work. There were apps I couldn't download due to a lack of space (despite a mostly empty 16GB microSD card), and apps that wouldn't install for other reasons. And always that frighteningly small 158MB system drive staring me in the face. So I decided to try to fix it.
I carefully read every bunch of instructions I could find and understand. Successfully rooted the phone. Installed ClockworkMod Recovery. I repartitioned the SD card with a big ext partition and swap space using CWM. I installed CF-Root-S5830_dtapps2sd-v1.2.zip successfully, and App2SD from the market.
This hasn't helped my free space at all. Nothing seems to be using that new ext partition. My available space did not go up at all...but (of course) my SD card space went down by the size of the new partitions.
I was under the impression there were kernels that could help your phone treat the SD card ext partitions like system space, but I can't figure out where or how for the life of me. Everything has worked, but it hasn't actually done anything.
-NoobGrrl
ur cf-root is not the latest, and I think if u make sd card partition by using cwm, the format will be ext3 not ext4.. so, u should try this step :
1. flash the latest cf-root v37-b82 through cwm from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158197
2. partition ur sd card by using minitool partition wizard (google it) and make ext4 format.
3. flash the latest darktremor through cwm (don' forget to mount system n sd card) from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715116
4. install a2sd gui from market... done..
You probably forgot to move the dalvik cache to sd-ext from A2SDGUI.
To begin with, as you haven't done this before, I recommend you download the app link2sd rather than app2sdgui. Your system will be ext3 from CWM. Select and reboot. Then return to link2sd and you can move apps one by one or by batch installation to your partition by creating a "link". This method gives you finer control over which apps to move. It shows file sizes and how much of the app will be moved. After moving the apps reboot and hey presto - free internal memory.
I also recommend getting an app called DiskUsage to see what is taking up space and a file browser with root functions. I use Root Browser by jrummy16 - free on market.
Sent from a phone with an app.
First of all, thanks for the replies! I like the detailed instructions from musf especially...step-by-step for me is really the best way.
Okay, tried to follow those directions exactly. Minitool Partition Wizard has reformated the little 2GB partition I made on the SD card to ext4. Most recent CF-Root and dtapp2sd zips seemed to install fine. I think I mounted all the drives...I just do it from CWM, yes?
Downloaded A3SDGUI and it gives me an error:
Exiting A3SDGUI
Could not start for one of these reasons:
1. Your device is not rooted (it is, superuser shows access granted to A3SDGUI)
2. A3SD scripts could not be found (if so, no idea why.)
3. No EXT partition found (again, no idea why.)
Edit: Tried Link2SD and it gave an error as well, "Mount script could not be created. No such device."
Okay, so obviously it doesn't see my SD card's partition. So I put it back in my PC and recreated it again. No change at all...
yes from cwm, choose the "mount n storage" menu, then moutn system, then mount sdcard, then instal the darktremor zip file..
That seems to have almost worked...yes, I was mounting the drives after running DT. Duh. (I assumed somehow that DTapp2sd allowed me to set up the drives and I was telling the phone to mount it afterward so it could be used. I didn't realize DTapp2sd just needed to write to the drive.)
Almost. Almost worked.
Now, app2sd actually starts up successfully, no errors. (link2sd still gives the same error.) However, App2SD can't actually move anything. All items remain disabled, even after selecting them.
So then I remember the post above about the dalvik cache. So I go into App2SD and try to move it to the sd-ext folder, and it tells me there is not enough space. I have 124 MB of system memory left right now...and the SD card is mostly empty.
Follow the following instructions and tell me if they work:
(redo the steps even if you have done them already)
1. download cwm5 from the forum and place it into your sd card.
2. make a backup of your sd card and reboot your phone into recovery.
3. flash cwm5 file and reboot the recovery.
4. from the recovery, re-partition your card with a ext partition (you dont need more than 256-512mb. I have 16gb card and mine is only 256mb).
5. select swap if you want it.
6. ~partitioning complete~
7. Connect your phone to your computer with usb wire (while in recovery.)
8. mount usb storage from recovery.
9. copy the cfroot file to your memory card from pc.
10. unmount the usb storage.
11. mount system, sdcard, sd-ext (just to be on safe side) and flash with cfroot.
12. reboot.
13. open a2sdgui.
14. click yes, apps are on sd!, zipalign on boot is on!.
15. set swap if you want it.
16. from dalvik, click on dalvik cache on sd-ext and click move and rebuild.
17. your phone should reboot and you will be done
Notes: Its normal that after flashing a2sd script, your phone restarts a coupe of times so just leave it alone for a moment.
Don't forget to give superuser permission to a2sdgui.
If you still get some error, sty flashing the script again.
If it still doesn't get through, search for the dt a2sd beta 4 script and flash that from recovery. Other steps are the same!
Happy FLASHING

p.s. sd-ext are normally ext2, not ext3 or ext4. ext4 is normally used in internal.

Go to recovery, Wipe cache/system/data. (make sure you have made a backup of your data.)
Mount the stuff and flash with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258830
You have a new rom with dt a2sd running within
I'm going to try a different version of dtapp2sd first.
Should the ext and swap partitions be logical or primary?
I'm starting to think my EXT partition is not formatting properly in mini partition tool. Unfortunately CWM uses Ext3 and I'm told it's worse than Ext4 and Ext2 is better than both for an SD card.
Both primary. 1st one should be fat32 and second one should be ext2.
Well, good news and bad news. After some work, reformatting the partitions again, reflashing a new kernel, I finally got it working.
Trouble is, it's not stable. Apps keep crashing, the "Gallery" app only shows a black screen, and it randomly loses access to the FAT32 partition when running, and the SIM card occasionally says "Unrecognized" (forcing me to "restore to factory.")
*sighs*
Flash to the rom i linked you to.

Problem mounting sd-ext in Jelly Blast V-3.5

Hey guys, wondering if you could help me. I'm running Jelly Blast V-3.5, with Rafaels Kernel 2.6.35-7 on my S5380i. I've been trying to increase the internal storage on my device by partitioning my 32gb card in CWM with a 1gb ext. I've tried every solution I've found on this forum but I simply cannot get it to mount. Link2sd yields 'invalid argument' no matter where I point it, and when trying to format/mount the ext. in CWM it just says 'apps 2 sd partition not found'.
Here's a list of the things I've tried which have failed to solve this:
Partitioning in minitool, with various sizes and exts, and setting the partition as active.
Flashing conrod script, doesnt seem to be effective.
Script to mount sd-ext at boot, followed iamareebjamal's guide found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971689

I'm completely at a loss, and with the internal storage of the S5380i being what it is, it would be great if anyone could offer me any advice.
Thanks!
do one thing , I'm recovery check if sd-ext is mounted
it used to happen to me that when I flashed new roms I had to mount sd-ext from mounts and storage
so mount it then reboot your phone
go to link2sd and create mount script as ext4
if problem persists , go in storage info of link2sd so see if the partition is mounted
if not you will have to enable auto mount at boot ( if option present in rom ) or mount using terminal emulator

Attempted to mount in CWM but just receive an error. It's as if the partition isn't there at all. Re-partioned the card but still, no luck.
My rom doesn't have the auto mount at boot option, so it looks I'll have to mount with terminal emulator. Could you run me through the process, or point me towards a guide? Cheers
what error did you get in cwm while mounting ?
yry this line in terminal
mount -o rw /dev/block/
mmcblk0p2 /sd-ext
also is mount2sd file present in your /etc /init.d folder ?
Sent from my GT-S5670 using xda premium
The error in CWM when attempting to mount is: 'Error mounting /sd-ext!'
'mount -o rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /sd-ext' in Terminal Emulator yields the following line: 'Usage: mount [-r] [-w] [-o options] [-t type] device directory'
The mount2sd file is not currently present in my init.d folder as I restored my phone from a backup, though when it has been there, the error in CWM is still the same.
The only difference I have noticed is that when partitioning with MiniTool, Link2SD will say that the partition is not mounted, but when partitioning with CWM it will say that the partition is not found.

Did you format ext2 in the secind partition? Normally when you format with cwm, first partition is fat32 and the second partition is ext2. Try to format all available space to 1 partition and using cwm format the card to two part. May be partitioning before makes cwm recognize the wrong part and gives error.

Make sure you have backed up all your files in your sdcard they will all be deleted and recreated with two partition.
In CWM enter Advanced --> use Partition SD Card
Set your second (ext2/3/4) partition size then set swap to zero (0).

That unallocated space is your problem. Try to create an ext2/3 partion with mini tool. And if minitool gives error than you probably have a defected sd.
And one more suggestion try the cwm in rafaels kernel thread.

[Q][SOLVED] sd-ext mount issue

Hi there!
I have been using the latest CM11 nightly for a while and decided to go for Link2SD, but I simply cannot mount my sd-ext partition from recovery. I have partitioned my SD-card of size 16GB with MiniTool Partition Wizard, and created an EXT3 partition of size 2GB. The partitions appear perfectly on the software, but whenever I try to mount /sd-ext from recovery, I get an error of "Error mounting /sd-ext!". Could anyone please help me out here? Quite a n00b here about sd-ext really.
I never tried mounting the sd-ext from recovery, but it works just fine after boot. What would you do with mounted sd-ext in recovery?
Well, I want to use Link2SD and have been always receiving an error message while creating the mount script, which goes something like:
"Mount script error
Mount script cannot be created.
mount: Invalid argument"
Also, upon looking into the Storage info, I find that SD Card 2nd Part. is not mounted. This is why I'm trying to mount my sd-ext from the CWM recovery, so that I can eradicate the error. Am I going in the wrong track?
I don't know, ext partition should work out of the box. What I did was partition sd card, boot, install link2sd, create mount script, reboot once again, done.
The only time link2sd won't create mount script for me is when the internal memory is full. Maybe your internal memory is full?
Not really, my internal memory is at least 50% free. Either way, I'll try reflashing the kernel and make a fresh install, and see if the problem persists. Thanks for responding and helping regardless!

Alright, I finally got Link2SD working and apparently, as it turned out, it's more comfortable with ext4 than ext3. Creating a mount script always failed when I tried with ext3, but with ext4, it worked like a charm. Anyway, thanks for all the advice, guys. Gonna tag this as solved right away.

Link2sd create mount script but second partition not mounted

Hi, I have samsung tab 3.7 with model number SM-T116NU, android version 4.4.4, and kernel version 3.10.17-11712742
I've rooted that phone about six month, and suddenly all of apps that I had linked dissapear. Usually, I try to reboot again by "Quick Reboot" or "Reboot" on Link2sd menu. But, in this case, it wasnt worked. I though that my sd card was broken. so I bought a new sd card "SanDisk 32gb 10 class".
I formatted it into two partition, Fat32 primary about 24gb, and ext4 primary about 6 gb. And then, I recreated mount scrip in link2sd with ext4, the apps said "Mount Scrip Created, please ....................." , then I rebooted it. But, nothing happened with my second partition. I have read many article, that said "mount script error", "mount script cannot be created", but I think that is not the same with my problem. I dont have any error message. The apps always says "Mount Scrip Created, please .....................", but after reboot when I check on strorage info, SD Card 2nd Part --> not mounted.
I have formatted 2nd partition into ext2 or ext3, the result is same. When I check on strorage info still SD Card 2nd Part --> not mounted. I've tried installed init.d but nothing has changed. On init.d folder I also find 11link2sd file. I tried to unistall then install again link2sd, nothing has changed. I tried to unroot then root again, nothing has changed.
So, can someone help me please?
Many thanks...
