[SOLVED] How to I find my LAN IP? - TouchPad General

hi,
i've found an utility that gives me the wan ip but i need my personnal (internal to my network) ip, any clue ?
subsidiary : any method to configure wifi ? (ex: ip fixing or adhoc mode, etc.)
thanks !!

There's an app in the webos catalog called what is my IP

if you can open up a terminal command line from preware, just type ifconfig -a
you can also look on your router to see what was assigned or go under wifi settings and set a static ip. i prefer a static ip anyways just so i know what it's on for connection purposes.

thanks both!

there's an xterm app in preware. it's kind of annoying to use, but it will work fine for what you need.

If its the only device on the network look in the WiFi router admin panel

don't think you need to install anything.

Mac address

Can someone tell me where the Mac address is stored in SGS2.
I have found /etc/wifi/nvram_net.txt but in that file it is a different mac address then the one i see in wifi advanced settings.

Anyone?
I really need this information.

But it did not help to change in nvram_net.txt.
Doesn't anyone know in what file the mac address is stored?

Thanks
But i want to know in what file in the os the mac address is stored so i can change it.

I actually thought it was chipware (pic) stored on the actual wifi hardware. I know you should be able to override.

Not the best of ideas, and may not even work, why not sign in on your phone?
And for your "How do i do in linux?" question, you use goolge to search for a query that millions will have had for the widest used classification of operating system in the world
But... a simple google search gives
http://www.robmcghee.com/android/changing-the-mac-address-on-android/
I am in a hotel and with a pc connect to the hotspot and get a wifi connection:
Then when i start to surf i get redirected to http://hyd.guestnet.int/login/
Where i fill in username and password in a form and i send the information to http://1.1.1.1/logon.cgi.
On my phone i get a wifi connection but is not redirected and i can not surf to http://hyd.guestnet.int/login/
I have tried all ways that is described but none is successful.
That is the reason I wonder if someone knows how i can change the mac in os on a SGS2.

you tried downloading opera or firefox for your mobile? Either or may make it so you can login on that form?

Don't forget to set the User Agent of Opera/Firefox/Dolphin to Desktop. Does the hotel ask for a login in the form of a website, or is it a dialogue box? Because websites can easily load on your phone.
I have the Useragent set to Desktop.
The hotel redirect me to a webpage http://hyd.guestnet.int/login/
Where i fill in username and password in a form and i send the information to http://1.1.1.1/logon.cgi.
On my phone i get a wifi connection but is not redirected and i can not surf to http://hyd.guestnet.int/login/
I can not get the phone to show the webpage with login.
Now i was thinking to set the same mac addres on my phone as on the pc and use the pc to logon and then switch of wifi on pc and turn it on on the phone.

Is it possible to change the mac address on SGS2?

[Q] Weird wifi issue

Hey guys,
i have an issue with my wifi connection, but only in one specific place.
Here goes: I can connect and use wifi everywhere(without any problem), but not at my friends house. Wifi connects without a problem, but after that i cannot use it (can't download from market, can't surf, etc.). It says there is an internet connection failure, altough i'm still connected.
I know for sure there isn't a problem with routers, modems, networks, etc. coz i setup his network myself (exactly the same as al the other networks i use) So in this there cannot be a problem. My friend can connect his iphone4, my wife can with S+, even a guy with an ACE can connect and use, except for me and my ACE.
Already reset router, modem and phone (even other firmware), but still nothing!
Hope somebody can help with this, coz i'm really bugged out on this one.
Cheers.
Check if u have a WPA protection.. My ACE doesnt work with Wifi with WPA pwd..
or
Try this:
Go to Wifi Settings, select the hotspot you are connecting to, forget the connection, restart ACE, connect to the hotspot again by entering the password
Hope this helps..
While on the topic of not being able to surf, I can never download anything from mediafire.

Check on router setting the ip address your phone is using is not bind to another device,s mac address this is on the router settings something like ip & Mab binding.
It could be the ip you are trying to use alocated for use by another device only.
However u will be able to connect to the router it will show in the router you phone is connected and alsoshow in wifi on the phone you are connected but you will NOT be able to connect to the internet.

Hey,
Thnx, will try this ASAP. This might be it.
Question: If my phones ip-adress is indeed the problem, is it possible to change it without any problem? Or should i delete the binded ip at the router?
Cheers.
ip no problem
You can set another ip address manually for phone first find out what routers ip address is
normally 192.168.1.1 is default for lots of routers then see router has DHCP
enabled this means router issues ips to devices. if it is enabled the leave your phone as is and check on the router under ip & Mac binding see if it is enabled UNanble u can always put it back
even better see on router what ip your phone is using then checxk in ip & mac binding that it is not assigned to another device for use. if it is u can delete that binding.
binding means you give a certain device's mac address a certain ip so only that device can you that ip
for example say your phones mac adress is 12:34:56:78:90:00 and you assign or give it ip adress 192.168.1 10 then in theory only your phone can use this ip. THIS not always the case depends on what make router. Whilst we are at that what is your router model.
Look in these places on roter
DHCP settings
IP & Mac Binding.
IP address filtering ( perhaps the ip your phone is using is blocked from internet, it will still be connected but cant access the internet) shout if you need more info
sorry got carried away yes delete bind ip you can always rebind. this below / following is from my router most routers are similar.
IP & MAC Binding Help
To manage the computers well in the LAN, you could control access among computers by ARP Binding.
MAC Address - The MAC address of the controlled computer in the LAN.
IP Address - The assigned IP address of the controlled computer in the LAN.
Bind - Whether or not enable the arp binding.
Modify - Edit or delete item.
Link - Turn to IP & MAC Binding Setting page.
Example: If you want assign 192.168.1.4 to PC A (MAC: 00-E0-4C-00-07-BE), and any other PCs could not use this IP,you should first enable "ARP Binding", and add a new item as below.
ID MAC Addrss IP Address Bind Modify
1 00-E0-4C-00-07-BE 192.168.1.4
DHCP ip Address Reservation Help
When you specify a reserved IP address for a PC on the LAN, that PC will always receive the same IP address each time when it accesses the DHCP server. Reserved IP addresses should be assigned to servers that require permanent IP settings.
MAC Address - The MAC Address of the PC that you want to reserve IP address for.
Reserved IP Address - The IP address of the router reserved.
To Reserve IP Addresses:
Enter the MAC Address (The format for the MAC Address is XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX.) and the IP address in dotted-decimal notation of the computer you wish to add.
Click the Save button when finished.
To modify a Reserved IP Address:
Select the reserved address entry as you desire, modify it. If you wish to delete the entry, make all of the entry fields blank.
Click the Save button.

[Q] OpenVPN Routing Problem

Hello
I have installed OpenVPN and its logging on to the vpn and is visible on the network list BUT I dont get any connection to another client in the vpn. I tried to ping another client from my SGS2 and from a client to the SGS2 but its always a timeout. I tried it with the phone and serveral wireless networks.
So I think it could be a routing issue but I dont have a clue how to see if thats really the problem and if its true how to fix it. I read some other posts and maybe it could also be a tun.ko problem but the SGS2 with 2.3.3 should already have installed it on the software, so I'm not sure how to see if thats ok. The Busybox is installed at /system/xbin. So does anybody have an idea how to find out whats actually the problem and how to fix this?
Thanks for your help!
Manolo
It's not clear to me if you tried connecting through your mobile data plan. Did you also tried that?
What is the IP that you are getting when your are connected to the VPN?
If it something like 192.168.1.* Then that's could be your problem. If the WIFI your are on, also gives you an ip adress as 192.168.1.* then that causes the problem. Either change the ip range of your network to 192.168.10* (just an example) or the ip range of you VPN.
ps can you post your VPN server settings?
Do you mean my own ip or the ip that i have in the vpn?
my own edge telekom ip is 10.219.127.35 and my internal vpn ip is 10.10.0.22
I can't post my vpn server settings because i got some key files for the vpn.
If you have installed installed this .zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16182571#post16182571
Then all you need to do is download openvpn settings from the market. And run in.
If you already did these steps, then the problem lies probably with your server and I need the server config. I don't need the keys of course
Thx!
How does this update work? I see no instructions on the post. Is it just to copy on the root folder?
Ah yes... I found how it goes and its working perfectly!
Thx a lot!

Running 3G and WiFi connections simultaneously

Hello to all.
I was trying to start this thread in Android Software and Hacking General, but got a warning about not having enough posts to submit a thread there, so I'm going to try here.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S II phone with the newest Android version. My goal is to modify the system so that 3G and WiFi are able to run together, side-by-side, simultaneously without 3G being turned off. Now, every time I connect to a WLAN, 3G cuts.
[OK, the spam police won't let me post outside links; Google Mobisocial 3G Wifi Stanford to find the article I'm talking about.]
MobiSocial News wrote about a hack that modifies ConnectivityService.java in a rather crude way, but according to the author of that article, it works on a 2.x Android system. There's not much info about the hack, but it's at least something and sounds plausible.
I tried to follow the instructions; I downloaded newest Android source codes, modified ConnectivityService.java and built the kernel by following these instructions: [a link to source.android.com "Building the System"]. But unfortunately, make didn't produce a services.jar mentioned in the article.
---
Does anyone know anything about using 3G and WiFi at the same time? Is it even possible?
Every piece of information is valuable, so don't be afraid to post. Thanks!
Anyone?
If I was misunderstood in my previous post; I'm not looking to have simultaneous connections, I just want the mobile network device to be online while I'm doing something with WiFi. And when WiFi cuts off, for example in a train tunnel or something, 3G takes its place.
I want to do the same with you

Actually it is, I found this thread that describes how to do it on an optimus G phone, and based on that I was able to do in on vanilla android 4.3 as well (my rooted nexus 4).
You need to put a couple of scripts together, since you need a series of shell commands for turning this on and off, I recommend the wonderful SH Script Runner for this.
Here is what I did on my Nexus 4. It works perfectly but note that you don't actually see the wifi icon turning on, but if you run "netcfg | grep UP" you will see that the wlan0 interface is up and running (as well as the rmnet_usb0 mobile data interface, both of them will be up and will have the expected IP addresses) and you can access your local LAN while your mobile data 3g/4g whatever provides your default route to the outside world.
Code:
# enable dual-networking:
pkill dhcpcd
svc wifi disable
svc data enable
netcfg wlan0 up
cd /data/misc/wifi/.
wpa_supplicant -B -Dnl80211 -iwlan0 -c/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
dhcpcd wlan0
ip route add x.x.x.x via x.x.x.y # add any desired local route
# disable dual-networking:
ip route del x.x.x.x/x via x.x.x.y
pkill dhcpcd
pkill wpa_supplicant
rm -rf /data/misc/wifi/wlan0
netcfg wlan0 down
svc wifi disable
svc data disable

Hi I'm running on Miui v5 4.1.1
I did try the above commands. But I'm not sure about the ip route you mentioned in the coding x. X. X. X via y. Y. Y. Y.
The response of the script was permission denied. I am definitely rooted and I gave permission to SH script runner.
Sent from my MI 2 using Tapatalk
First try the commands on the terminal (adb shell, or terminal app) and make sure to type "su" first, so that all commands get executed with root permissions. After you get things working without errors on the terminal, you can put these commands in script runner.
The x.x.x stuff needs to be replaced with the subnet/netmask of your home LAN, such as 10.0.0.0/24 or whatever and the default gateway (your wireless router) to reach it via.The route stuff assumes a basic understanding of networking... Actually you can remove the route statements, they are only needed if your home LAN is on a different subnet than your WiFi subnet... most home routers put everything on the same subnet.
What is the end goal you are trying to achieve by connecting to 2 networks?

Thanks you for your reply. First of all my understanding of networking isn't anywhere basic . What i did with the xxx was replacing it with the internal ip assigned to me, aka 192.x.x.x
For the yyy, I replaced it with the ip of 3g connection. Not sure what I am doing here. Please guide me here (I know the su part which I an required to do in terminal)
And finally my goal. I have Seagate wireless plus and itself is a portable wifi hotspot to its own content. I am able to stream pictures music and video from the battery operated hardisk. I can bridge the connection of the portable hotspot to my home wifi gaining xs to the Internet.
However while I am connected to the Seagate wireless plus, I cannot connect to my 3g. That meaning I can't have Internet on the go which is a very big limitation.

OK. You don't need the "ip route" command, since your WiFi interface will give you access to the Seagate as soon as you connect to it. And the 3G interface, at least in my case, provided default gateway to the internet.
Anyway, try the other commands one by one and see which of them, if any, give you any errors. The netcfg command should show you that 2 interfaces (apart from the lo - 127.0.0.1) are UP and with expected IP addresses if everything goes well.

As I said before, you don't need the ip route command, remove that line entirely!
When all is working, netcfg | grep UP should show you your wlan interface with the IP address given to it by the Seagate, and your mobile data interface with the IP address given to it by your cellular provider.

If you try to understand the code you will notice it turns off your Wi-Fi and then turns it on. So actually you don't need to connect to the hotspot first.
Regarding the interface name, here is where you need to do your own investigation and figure the WiFi interface name for your own phone.
The netcfg command without any arguments displays all interfaces, and whenever you are on Wi-Fi, the relevant interface will be UP and will have your assigned IP address next to it.
Look at how much stuff I changed compared to the things posted by the other guy for the optimus phone. Look at his solution and be prepared to investigate and come up with similar amount of changes for your phone. I spent several hours trying different stuff for my Nexus 4, with my only info being the other guy's post. I read about netcfg and everything else googling various websites. You need to do the same and learn a bit about that stuff.
For all I know, the Optimus phone method could be closer to your phone than my method, perhaps. You have to do your own research and figure out the differences, then post them here to help other owners with the same device as yours.

Yes. I notice that the wifi switched off and then turns on again. Alright I do some research on my own! Thanks again.
Hope that I will get some breakthrough soon

Hi
I finally got it working. When I am connected to seagate wireless, I have to fiddle with the connection settings inside wifi settings. I assigned a static ip and assigned the gateway to 0.0.0.0
As for the ip, I set a different internal ip with the last digit increased by one. Example 172.25.0.2
Now I am connected to both 3G and LAN.

[Q] Blocked from connecting to my home wifi.

Hey guys,
My Father changed something in the router settings yesterday which blocked only me and my brother from connecting to the Wifi.
Anyone else can connect normally and gain Internet access. It is a password protected access point but I have the password and I entered it correctly and it connected but it says "Authentication error occurred".
Does anyone have an idea of what he blocked? Mac address? IP? what? and how can I change it?
Thanks in advance!

Mac address definitely. I would also offer he reserved IP addresses to certain Mac adds & limited number of ip address (i.e., 2 or 3 vs 255). Can you get local access & then access router w/its id name & password?

I have only once changed Mac add & that was inadvertantly & rooted. Don't know if Mac add can be changed w/o root. IP address theory might be tested using a VPN app (may still need connection) or app such as Hide My Ass.
Good luck.
Edit: Now that I think about it, you can't test IP theory w/o outside connection. Sorry.
