The drive? Do you mean driver? The only driver you need to use ADB is the regular HTC device drivers. ADB itself comes in the Android SDK.
I just did this today, install SDK from android.com; then you have to install HTC Sync.

You don't actually need HTC Sync. I've never installed it and don't plan on it. All you need is a custom driver .inf that we put together for you already.
This should help you if you have any questions installing the sdk.

You could always just install HTC sync (which will install the drivers) and then uninstall HTC sync. The drivers will not be uninstalled.

I followed that set up exactly, but I am unable to get adb to recognize my device at all. No "Unknown Device" shows up in device manager so I can not change the driver for it. Not sure why I have such trouble with adb. It's never worked for me.
Are you setting the path to the platform tools in your system variables?

And as expected, not only will ADB not work, not that I changed the drivers according to the guide, my computer won't recognize my phone when it's plugged in as a disk drive. Running Bamf 2.4.1. I rooted with the 3 step/"1 click" method months ago and never had any problems. I try to get adb set up so I can do things properly and learn and now I have nothing but problems.

Got it sorted. I ended up deleting the android sdk and starting from scratch using the first link....and it didn't work again. Tried the video link above...and it didn't work. Then I figured I'd try to delete the adb device in Device Manager, unplug my phone, then plug it back in. That worked for some reason. Now it shows up in adb properly, and I can connect it as a disk drive as well. Huzzah indeed.

I've done some searching and I can't find anything on this. I can't find any download links or whatever.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.
Thanks guys!

Oh ok.
I'm installing it now.
If you search my stats i made a good thread on stting it up i attached drivers too
Weird: had no problems using adb on my HTC Magic, but adb remount w/ the HD2 gives me 'remount failed: Unknown error: 0'
I have the sdk installed. When I connect the HD2, it asks for the location, I specify the location of the SDK. It cannot find anything. What exactly is it looking for?

After downloading the Android SDK, use its manager to download the windows drivers and it will be downloaded in, for example, C:\android-sdk-windows\usb_driver
Use this folder when windows ask you for drivers.
OMFG I'm about to throw this POS out of the window! My G1 never gave me close to as many problems as this hackjob. I am going crazy trying to figure out how adb works on the hd2, on the G1 it was in the phone when it was rooted, I downloaded the program from java, installed sdk manager and the windows usb drivers, what do I do next? It still doesn't see my device, neither does droidexplorer and I have usb debugging on. ALL I WANT IS MY DAMN GPS TO WORK, POS IS ROOTED BUT WON'T SAVE MY CHANGES WHEN I CHANGE THE GPS.CONF FILE! sorry, no sleep, work nights, one day left to fix this phone... or I might just buy a damn iphone
i am missing one called ADB and High Tech Computer lol any idea how to get them

you need HTC Sync.
If you download this it will allow you to just install those drivers you need and not HTC sync itself.
still does not have those 2 drivers
Do you have ADB installed? Have you downloaded the Android-SDK for Windows? Without that, you aren't going anywhere with ADB.

hmmm it did for me, but read below. Also, if it still says it isn't installed, go to device manager and right click on the ?ADB and click install drivers, and tell it browse your computer and chose drive C: and click OK. It should find the drivers.

first thing you need to do is this, download the SDK, put it where ever you want, and then run the program inside the main folder, which will update everything.
i think it installed when i installed htc sync i did the sdk thing with the nexus s so maybe that worked out but the high tech computer does not want to i am trying to tether from where you plug it in to the comp and on the TB show what you want to do like like mount etc...
Here, this'll get you going:
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thunder-development/315-android-sdk-adb-driver.html
So I set out to root my phone and am in the process to trying to install the USB drivers so i can use ADB. At first, windows installed it's own drivers, which obviously didn't work. I tried to update the drivers in the device manager to the ones located in the google-usb directory, but it said i already had the latest installed.
Next i decided to uninstall the current drivers completely and start over. I then told it to install the drivers that were located the in the google-usb directory. It said no drivers were found. They were obviously there, so i manually gave it the "android_winusb.inf" driver as per the cyanogen mod wiki page instructions on installing the drivers. It then said that "The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems."
I'm new to this so thanks for any help at all. I really want to learn my way around this kind of stuff.
Try it with your phone in mass storage mode with debugging on.
Still no luck. I've had it in debugging mode and charge only. Switched to disk drive mode and no change
Just download HTC Sync and use the drivers it provides. Should work for using adb.

Now it can't even find HTC Sync on my computer... It's installed and i just used it the other day. Maybe it's something to do with the fact that i uninstalled the drivers it had? It can't communicate now?
This is what I used, worked great.
This might help also, he goes over installing the drivers a few minutes in.
Hope it works out for you.

You're more than welcome. You might re-title the post with [Solved] at the beginning so anyone with the same problem know to look here.
Just wanted to mention here that this was noted a while back and the CM Wiki will be updated with an easy way to correct this for Thunderbolt as well as other devices soon.
what's the solve?
My computer doesn't see my Rezound. Unknown devices is what comes up. I do have debugging enabled, and HTC sync not enabled, set on charge only, have the htc drivers installed, and I have the SDK tools renamed to Android in my C:/
I dunno what else to do.

on the android development forum. The thread Stock Rooted OTA by Con247 . Feralicious posted a mini-set of SDK tools that Mr. Smith had put up awhile back that contains what is needed to run most adb commands from.
Find that post, at one time it was the last page of the thread, by now I am sure its a few back. Unzip those tools and create a folder on the C: drive somewhere and then you can use that folder to run your adb commands.
Granted without the proper path linked you will have to place any files you want to send to the phone in that folder and when starting up the cmd box either do it from that folder or you have to change directory so that you are using that folder to run the commands. It will work though so give that a shot until you can figure out how to properly set up Adb. I know i had a heck of a time as well.
Check your device manager. If you updated your phone with the OTA, your PC could have a hard time seeing the new device. Your phone should be recognized as an Android USB Device.

Suggest you remove all android drivers (and htsync if you have it) and start over with the tools mentioned in the thread above. I had a similar issue where I could run adb but it couldn't find my Rezound, and I just uninstalled everything and found I had multiple sets of android drivers (dating back to my Incredible) fouling things up.
Once I reinstalled the right drivers and just right drivers, I was good to go.
It's also possible that you have 2 different versions of adb. I had to end process on adb.exe and then restart adb in the folder I was using. Apparently, my pc was looking at 2 adb files and didn't know which one to use.

ADB isn't phone specific, so two versions only truly gums up the works like when we just got HTC unlock and people were downloading ADB all over the place.

My hox+ will not connect to ADB on my Windows 7 machine. It works fine in OSX, so it shouldn't be a hardware issue. I have tried installing HTC Sync, uninstalling the driver manually, browsing for drivers on the file system, and pretty much anything else I could find online for the hox and hox+.
The only thing I can get to install for the device is the default Microsoft MTP driver. Even if I uninstall it, restart my machine and plug the phone back in, it just comes back with that same driver. It never gives me the chance to choose my own before it shows up as an MTP device.
Does anyone have any suggestions to get this working?
EDIT: More info
I have flashed the AT&T CWM recovery to my device, and it is NOT rooted.
Try another usb port.
Is usb debugging turned on in settings?
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda app-developers app
Don't worry about the MTP driver, it's irrelevant. As the poster above me said, first try a diffrent usb port, one that connects directly to the mobo. ADB does not play nice with usb hubs.

This is on a laptop, I am not connecting to a USB hub. I've tried each USB port with the same result.
I have also tried every combination of turning debugging on and off, each time the device will just reconnect as an MTP device. ADB still does not detect anything. I am an app developer, and I have a bunch of other devices that work fine.
Has anyone got this to connect to adb on a Windows machine successfully?
EDIT: Would having a custom recovery installed affect ADB on my stock rom? I have the AT&T CWM recovery installed.
bump, I really would like to get this resolved. I am going to try and call HTC today to see what they say about this issue.
Let us know how much support HTC offered, since it is AT&T branded. And how you worked around telling them you installed custom recovery?

This might help, I had a similar issue. I installed HTC Sync which installs the drivers, then I uninstalled just the HTC Sync app leaving the drivers.

No need to "work around" having a custom recovery installed. This has nothing to do with the device not being detected properly in Windows 7 while booted into the OS.
Spoke with tier 1 support and he didn't really know what ADB was, but still tried all the usual troubleshooting. The support request was escalated and I got a call back yesterday where the tech was more knowledgeable. He tried all the install/uninstall driver stuff that I did, which still did not work (uninstall/reinstall driver, force install in device manager, remove all htc drivers using USBDeview). After that did not work he had another idea that ended up being the solution. I'll put that below for anyone that has the same problem.
How to solve HTC One X+ not detected by ADB:
Download and use USBDeview to remove all instances of HTC drivers.
Open the androidusb.inf file in your HTC drivers folder (you are going to need admin privs to write to this part of the filesystem, open Notepad as Administrator and then open the file). Modify the ClassGuid=XXXXXXXXX... with the Device class guid of your HOX+ including the { }. It is found under Details in Device Manager properties for your device. Save the file back to its original location.
Now open Device Manager. Find the device (mine was under Portable Devices), Right-click -> Update Driver Software -> Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer -> Have Disk... -> Browse for androidusb.inf (x64 Windows 7 it is in C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Win7_x64) -> HTC, Corporation -> MY HTC -> Ok. Congratulations, your device should now be detected by ADB.
