My computer doesn't see my Rezound. Unknown devices is what comes up. I do have debugging enabled, and HTC sync not enabled, set on charge only, have the htc drivers installed, and I have the SDK tools renamed to Android in my C:/
I dunno what else to do.

on the android development forum. The thread Stock Rooted OTA by Con247 . Feralicious posted a mini-set of SDK tools that Mr. Smith had put up awhile back that contains what is needed to run most adb commands from.
Find that post, at one time it was the last page of the thread, by now I am sure its a few back. Unzip those tools and create a folder on the C: drive somewhere and then you can use that folder to run your adb commands.
Granted without the proper path linked you will have to place any files you want to send to the phone in that folder and when starting up the cmd box either do it from that folder or you have to change directory so that you are using that folder to run the commands. It will work though so give that a shot until you can figure out how to properly set up Adb. I know i had a heck of a time as well.
Check your device manager. If you updated your phone with the OTA, your PC could have a hard time seeing the new device. Your phone should be recognized as an Android USB Device.
Saved to the root of.my C:/

Suggest you remove all android drivers (and htsync if you have it) and start over with the tools mentioned in the thread above. I had a similar issue where I could run adb but it couldn't find my Rezound, and I just uninstalled everything and found I had multiple sets of android drivers (dating back to my Incredible) fouling things up.
Once I reinstalled the right drivers and just right drivers, I was good to go.
It's also possible that you have 2 different versions of adb. I had to end process on adb.exe and then restart adb in the folder I was using. Apparently, my pc was looking at 2 adb files and didn't know which one to use.

ADB isn't phone specific, so two versions only truly gums up the works like when we just got HTC unlock and people were downloading ADB all over the place.

i am missing one called ADB and High Tech Computer lol any idea how to get them
http://www.htc.com/us/support/thunderbolt-verizon/downloads/
you need HTC Sync.
If you download this it will allow you to just install those drivers you need and not HTC sync itself.
still does not have those 2 drivers
Do you have ADB installed? Have you downloaded the Android-SDK for Windows? Without that, you aren't going anywhere with ADB.

hmmm it did for me, but read below. Also, if it still says it isn't installed, go to device manager and right click on the ?ADB and click install drivers, and tell it browse your computer and chose drive C: and click OK. It should find the drivers.

first thing you need to do is this, download the SDK, put it where ever you want, and then run the program inside the main folder, which will update everything.
i think it installed when i installed htc sync i did the sdk thing with the nexus s so maybe that worked out but the high tech computer does not want to i am trying to tether from where you plug it in to the comp and on the TB show what you want to do like like mount etc...
Here, this'll get you going:
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thunder-development/315-android-sdk-adb-driver.html
this is regarding captainkreks root method. i couldnt even get past the first path input, i entered C:\sdk\platform-tools and C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk. and i just says please make sure you entered the right path. i was wondering why its saying this
Probably because you don't have adb set up properly. Download something called adb for dummies it will correctly set up adb and then install your drivers. I suggest using the easyroot method if your not experienced with adb.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
That's most likely not the path of your sdk. Its probably more like C:/ Program files (x86)/android/android-sdk/.....(x86) if your a 64 bit computer if your 32 bit then there is no (x86)
It all depends on where you put your sdk and what its called....

i installed adb for dummies and i now have the correct path but in the easy root when it checks for the firmware version it says device not found and doesnt display the current firmware version on the phone. I have yet to downgrade the RUU but since the app cant find the phone im assuming i dont have the drivers installed yet, but im having trouble figuring out how to install the drivers. i know the adb file came with the google usb driver but i dont know what to do with it
Applications>Development> Enable USB Debugging make sure that is checked
it was enabled before. but i disabled it and unplugged and tried again and im having the same problem. ?

download the usb drivers from here http://www.mediafire.com/?s4wamt44hlfaqa3
Unzip that and place it in your sdk folder for safe keeping.
In your device manager you will prob see an exclamation mark. install the driver.
Nothing is appearing in my device manager. I have looked around and havnt really been able to find anything that can explain how to find a device on the manager. I just need a link to a good guide around adb
If adb for dummies worked then your good to go. You need to place the phone when you hook into the computer in charge only mode. Try this and report back adb I don't think is your problem but phone driver in assuming its not showing up in Your device manager so do the formentioned step of placing in charge only.

I know when I was rooting my phone I had to enable/disable USB Debugging to get the root to work. I don't know if it was something specific to my own TB, or if it's something that is unique to rooting the TB is general.
I don't know about all that script stuff, I was going to go that route and downloaded htc sync, adb, and all the drivers but chickened out before going through with it.
But last night I followed through with all the step by step instructions the long way that is detailed out on Android Central. Not because it was easier, but because it was step by step and was easy to understand and had all the correct files to download and rename etc..
in actuality it was easy, just a little time consuming with big files to download, the actual work was easy.
Justin
this is what my the root app says after the first step when i pasted the sdk path into it
SDK Directory found
Checking build.prop ro.product.version
error: device not found
if the number above ends in 605.6 or 605.9 then you can root,
IF NOT THAN YOU CANNOT ROOT USING THIS METHOD!!!
do you wish to begin
i dont see any number because when it attempts to check the product version my device is not found. i have adb for dummies installed and the correct google usb drivers the phone is set to usb debugging and to charge only usb connection so im not really sure what the problem is. i have downloaded the RUU listed on rom.galaxysense and renamed it to PG05IMG.zip but im not sure how to actually downgrade the RUU and even if i can manage to get that done the device is not showing up sooooooo... i apologize for the massive amount of text and the slight retardation expressed in the post i just hit a block at the 2nd step lol
Wondering if someone knew this answer. I'm not new to adb but came across one issue i can't figure out. I have my adb set up for my o.g. Evo which is using Android SDK r6 which works fine. On Evo 3D i cant get passed "adb devices". All it says is list devices attached but it doesnt list which device like its not seeing it. I tried SDK r10 and r11 and nothing. I'm trying to push fre3vo.

Do you have the drivers installed. Also, go to settings->Applications->Development and make sure USB debugging is selected.
I'm not sure selecting/deselecting USB debugging and/or Allow mock locations will make it work, but I remember having the same exact issue and I started playing with those and it worked. Maybe someone can confirm. Good luck.
It was the drivers. Who'd of thunk, lol Thank ya!

For anyone else having problems getting ADB to run after checking the above mentioned solutions if you're still having trouble.....Make sure HTC Sync is not running on your computer. In fact, unless you use it to sync your phone with your computer, which most people do not. Just uninstall it. Once you have the drivers for your phone installed you don't need to keep Sync installed.
Still no luck.....I did uninstall HTC and tried everything......even uninstalled sdk and same thing I really need help.

you are posting with forward slashes, are you on linux? if you are not, and are on windows then you need backslashes. anyways, go to your android folder, then the platform tools folder. you should see adb.exe if so, hold the shift key and click on an empty area in this folder. in the pop up there will be an option that say "open cmd prompt window here" click that, then in the cmd prompt window type "adb devices" without the quotes. does it list your device? if not, open device manager and see if there are any things shown with errors if so, right click and select update drivers. if this helped pm in accordance to your promise in the pron thread!

After you bring up your command promt....You have to change directory to the sdk.
cd \android-sdk-windows\platform-tools (if the latest version)
or cd \android-sdk-windows\tools (if and older version)
Well to start don't have an Android folder....I don't think or c one. Also I do c the file in sdk folder but can't do anything u said to do....I'm on windows 7.and yes a promise is a promise.

If you installed the sdk to the root of your hard drive (c) and you go to my computer....you should see a folder called "android-sdk-windows". If you have that, then it's installed and in the right place. You just need to change directories to it once you open your command prompt.

and was the deal up held i wonder(yes i was in that thread too)???? bump bump buummmpp
Heres the deal. I have a MAC with a newly installed hard drive. On my old hard drive I had everything setup with SDK and Adb but that was when I had an HTC Hero. My problem is this: When in terminal my damn computer keeps prompting me for a password but it doesnt allow me to type anything except control C which aborts the program. It never was like that with the old hard drive.
2. Ive dl SDK for MAC unzipped it and saved it to my desktop and my hard drive.
3. When I click on tools it says "adb_has_moved.txt"
4. It says the adb tool has moved to platform-tools/ and if you dont see this directory in your SDK, launch the SDK and AVD manager and install "android SDK Platform-tools and also update my path environment variable to include the platform-tools/ directory, so I can execute adb from any location. What the heck does this mean and how do I fix it. Also how do I know if SDK is installed correctly.
5. I DL some version of eclipse that was recommended from SDK but I dont know how to use that either.
6. I have tried all the root methods shown here in XDA except the on with the Dock since I dont have a dock.
7. Also ADB does not recognize my device and my debug is selected. I cannot get it to find my device.
8. One last question when some instructions say unzipped and move the root exploit to /data/tmp/ is that the file labeled under sdcard/data or is it the one inside the Android Folder listed as "data"
Please anyone help if possible.
let me try that

Make sure your phone has USB Debugging Mode enabled. Otherwise, adb will not recognize your device.
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879701
However, you will have to modify for MAC.
In my opinion the easiest way to root the Photon is still using the dock method. Otherwise, try the One Click Root method (Torpedo) as mentioned above. Then you don't have to worry about issuing all the commands.
I got it done I got it done. What I did was borrow my daughters windows netbook and the one click method worked on the first try. Thanks to all who replied. I will definitely hit your thanks buttons.

im sorry.. my tool was a one click i dint think i needed to give it instructions.. especially teh part of how to run it on your computer... just fyi.. when invoking sudo (to do things as admin/root) on your computer. you are asked to enter in your password.. as a privacy/security feature it will NOT display any characters.. ergo it looks blank...
as you arent teh first one to run into this issue ill add instructions for mac users ( i know anyone running linux can figure out how to run a bash script, and windows users have a bat file after installing 209387249087 drivers... but they still figure it out ;P)

The drive? Do you mean driver? The only driver you need to use ADB is the regular HTC device drivers. ADB itself comes in the Android SDK.
I just did this today, install SDK from android.com; then you have to install HTC Sync.

You don't actually need HTC Sync. I've never installed it and don't plan on it. All you need is a custom driver .inf that we put together for you already.
This should help you if you have any questions installing the sdk.

You could always just install HTC sync (which will install the drivers) and then uninstall HTC sync. The drivers will not be uninstalled.

I followed that set up exactly, but I am unable to get adb to recognize my device at all. No "Unknown Device" shows up in device manager so I can not change the driver for it. Not sure why I have such trouble with adb. It's never worked for me.
Are you setting the path to the platform tools in your system variables?

And as expected, not only will ADB not work, not that I changed the drivers according to the guide, my computer won't recognize my phone when it's plugged in as a disk drive. Running Bamf 2.4.1. I rooted with the 3 step/"1 click" method months ago and never had any problems. I try to get adb set up so I can do things properly and learn and now I have nothing but problems.

Got it sorted. I ended up deleting the android sdk and starting from scratch using the first link....and it didn't work again. Tried the video link above...and it didn't work. Then I figured I'd try to delete the adb device in Device Manager, unplug my phone, then plug it back in. That worked for some reason. Now it shows up in adb properly, and I can connect it as a disk drive as well. Huzzah indeed.
