I would go play with the SGS2 and the Evo 3D if you can. Both are great phones, so it's going to come down to Sense vs TouchWiz.
Also, HTC's bluetooth stack is BORKED and they still haven't fixed it yet. It won't phonebook sync to older cars with Bluetooth 2.x
For me, that's a deal breaker and I would get the SGS2 instead. But if you have a 2011 car, it probably has Bluetooth 3.x and you should be fine.

I pretty much like the sense over touchwiz.......and I don't connect my phone to my car so often......SGS2 also costs here like 30000....that's around $120 less than the evo 3d......sgs2 had launched here like 3 to 4 weeks ago so the price has come down a bit........
Can someone tell me which company samsung or htc has a better customer support and would always upgrade there models with the latest versions of the os (faster)....?..(I have seen/noticed sometimes that samsung is a bit slow in releasing updates)

Hehe....the high end phones in india launch at this price range only......the iphone 4 launched at 35000 officially....which is like a month or two ago.....and was selling unofficially at 40000 since a year....(which it doesn't deserve at all...(.my opinion)) .....
$1 values around RS43-44

I wouldn't only solely due to the speakers on the item. Otherwise, I'd say go for it.
I would only recommend this phone if you want the best phone ever made!
Definitely recommend this beast of a phone! however that price is tooooooo high, wait for it to go down a bit and when it does GO FOR IT!
Absolutely....I would play with both the SGS and the HTC. However, Samsung is terrible with updates. The Epic 4G here in the US on Sprint hasn't even got GB yet. It took forever for them to release Froyo.
On the other hand, HTC has very good track record of updates/support. I didn't get the 3D movie on the SD card that came with the phone in the US and *****ed to sprint and actually got a call from HTC and they took my address, had me on a conference call explaining what I did to determine I didn't have it, etc.
On the update side, I had the OG EVO and it was updated pretty regularly. I'd say probably 5-6 updates in a year, which is pretty damn good if you ask me.
The Evo 3d is awesome but if the SGSII is $120 cheaper, I'd rather get that.
Phones there may be expensive there but at least the actual cell phone service is cheap.
The carriers here in the US love having their way with us customers, no lube either.
Samsungs customer service stinks! I recently came from the Epic, and we had to wait almost 8 months for froyo. Not to mention the code that Samsung used to get it operational was all hacked up. I would go for the HTC. You'll hate yourself for dealing with a Samsung piece of equiptment.

My contract ends on the 2nd and I've been comitted to getting the Droid X. I wasn't aware the Thunderbolt was coming out this month. I'm on a tight budget...should I roll with the X or wait for the bolt? Also...do u have to get a 4g data plan or could you just get a 3g plan on the bolt? I am not stoked on the limited dev options with the X so I'm worried.
Thanks
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
Get the Thunderbolt. Trust me, it will be worth the 2-3 weeks extra wait time. Better hardware, should be good build quality since it's made mostly of aluminum, and what's not to like about faster speeds? As of now there is no information on the pricing options for 4G smartphones.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
That's the thing I don't want to wait and then get the shaft by having to get a 4G plan. I don't need or want it. I need to sell my Eris as well to be able to afford the bolt.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
I would definitely get the Thunderbolt. I also was looking for a Droid X. My friend got an EVO and I fell in love with the 4.3" screen. Then I started reading about the locked bootloader and very limited dev options for the DX. The Thunderbolt is just going to be an all around better phone, especially if you want custom roms and kernels. I wouldn't imagine the 4G plan adding more than $10 maybe $15 to your bill.
Again, I agree with Omen. If you're looking for a decent phone with many dev capabilities, this phone isn't for you. This phone is better than that; it's top notch. Get a droid incredible instead. It just dropped to $100 with 2 year contract.

I have the X i love the Phone but it does kinda stink that about getting custom Roms, like FULL ones with the new kernals and everything. From what i have been reading on line the 4g plan is going to be 29.99 just like 3g but you know verizon can change that any time lol The thunderbolt looks amazing is it going to have a impossible boot loader like the Motorola products have?
Talked to a VZW rep yesterday about our company phones and I wanted to also move to a new phone for myself. I asked about the TB and said I didn't want to pay extra because I don't live in an 4g area. I was told that there is no extra charge for 4g.

It is highly unlikely that it will have a locked bootloader. It would be a first for HTC to do so as far as I know.

A second considering the G2 and all that mess...
I'd go with the Thunderbolt. HTC uses better camera parts than Motorola, doesn't lock their bootloaders, 4G will be nice and shouldn't cost extra. I've had the Droid X since release and it's not been that amazing. I'm suffering (as are many others) severe reboot issues due to Moto's buggy .340 kernel and since we can't change our kernel... we have to continue to deal with this maddening problem.
I'm no longer a Motorola fan. Not to mention that HTC is usually a bit faster than Motorola on getting out updates for new software... and you'll get a front-facing camera with video chat!
I don't count Samsung phones... broken GPS and horrible software updates, plus a lack of Cyanogenmod... LG phones suck, and Motorola phones are too locked down. So, I see HTC as the only real player in the game today for quality, customizable Android phones. Plus, I like their aspect ratio for their 4.3" screens... not the widescreen size Motorola uses, which is too tall and not wide enough for me.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
I'm running the. 340 update and have not had one random reboot since ice update. With liberty applied and a couple of other tweaks its a great phone (DX) but it had very limited dev support because there isn't really **** you can ultimately do with a locked bootloader, it doesn't have near the support of my fascinate, and no where the support of my DInc, but with that said, at the end of the day, I use my Droid x for one reason. Battery life. I suspect the battery life on the thunderbolt wont be as good as the x, but it had great specs a great proccessor and more RAM, IT WILL BE A AWESOME PHONE. IM SO DRUNK I DONT KNOW WHAT IM SAYING! !

I am an upgrade-oholic A year is all I typically keep my phones. I bought the Nexus-One the day it came out, then picked up my current EVO 4G on launch day. I am itching for a new phone.
Saying all that, I am looking for a slightly lighter and thinner phone, the EVO has become a tad too bulky and thick for my tastes, I do like what Samsung is doing with the thin and lightweight form.
Anyways...the upcoming Nexus-3.0 rumors makes it sound like Google really wants to wow us big time with the next Nexus. Most likely HTC built, with Quad core, Tegra 3, 2gb RAM, etc...and be the first phone on market running "Ice Cream Sandwich"
As nice as the EVO-3D will be, it seems come December it will be replaced by this much better next gen product, and Sprint is said to be tapped first for release.
What to do ? Get EVO-3D now, or just hold out for the big beast Nexus-3.0 ?

To be honest, why wait? If that's the case, u might as well wait for what comes after the new nexus phone....then wait for the one after it. Thing about technology is that u will "never be caught up"

You're right. Get the best Android phone this Summer, in the EVO-3D and be happy with that. And then decide if I really want the Nexus-3.0 once the official specs are revealed with release date.
Specs wise the new EVO-3D should run stock "Ice Ceam" very well. I highly doubt the hardware in the 3.0 will be night and day better than the 3D ?

wait for the nexus 3.... wen that is getting ready to be released there will be some better device on the horizon... ohhh then wait for that. At that time this new uber 8 core phone running android creme brulee will only be 6 months out!!!
If you like upgrading that much just shell out $600 every 6 months
Or just upgrade now and trade in the 3d at radio shack...still probably worth over $200...hell, until a week ago an evo 4g was worth $180 to them ....there is also ebay, but, too much effort for me...much better return though......anyway, then...get the n3...sure, costs a little more but it isn't full retail....you get to ride the cutting edge and your don't have to worry about the n3 getting rooted.
That's my new plan.

Hello Amaze Community,
Currently running on the HTC Desire Z on the Telus network up here in Canada. Telus just got the Amaze in and I'm due in for a contract renewal. The DZ is working just perfectly, rooted, s-offed, etc, etc.. but being a total nerd, I just NEED to be on the front of technology.
Just wondering if you guys/girls would be so kind as to offer your experiences with your devices. I know quad-core phones are just around the corner, but I have this itch that needs to be scratched sooner or later. Is it worth it to renew now and get this dual-core device or, now that you have it, would you suggest waiting for the quad-core Tegra3 devices?
Opinions and Suggestions please! =)

The best thing to do is to read extensively on any purchase that is costly and watch a few video reviews so that you get an idea so that you eliminate all surprises later. Just about every question/concern you may have about this phone can be found a couple post down and on YouTube.
Edit: I would honestly wait after the first set of quadcore devices come out. I remember getting the first dualcore phone in the States (G2x) and being somewhat disappointed. Patience normally gets rewarded heavily.

My son currently has the Desire Z as well. I have had the Amaze for about 2 weeks now and I love it. I came from the Hero, so a huge difference. Love the screen size and clarity and the speed is terrific.
As for quad-core, my personal opinion is that a phone will not really benefit from a quad core vs dual core. What does a phone do that requires a quad?? Also battery life is a concern on almost all dual core phones. I can only imagine that quad core phones are going to require serious battery management, or greatly improved battery technology.
I'm sure that down the road all phones will be quads, but for now, and for the life of this contract, I doubt I will ever think "geeze, if only I had a quad core."

Yes, I believe, they have a 14 day return policy (in AZ) but it'll cost you a $50 restocking fee! At least, that's what I remember when I asked the TMO sales rep.
my 2 cents. the phone has very little dev support. s off is not here and if you root now you ruin the chances of having it later. i am coming form the Evo on sprint and will be returning back to it in a few days. I have had htc amaze twice and it is much better than the Evo but i can not make the switch form sprint until tmobile changes there plans. somehow i use 1.8 gb of data on t mobile in 5 days and on sprint i use that much a month. I dont know much about eh phone you are coming form but if the deciding factor has anything to do with roms and Dev support i would wait.

I love the Amaze. Came from G2x, and IMHO, batteries need to catch up to these phones. I can't imagine what Quad Core will do that mine can't, and by the time I do, we'll all be on to other devices.
Build quality is awesome, battery is great (running X's Beast atm) and I haven't had any big issues.
I went from a g1 to g2 to an amaze and I haven't looked back even once.
Once htc releases 4.0 we will have native dual core support and optimization.
I can't say much about quad core seeing as it is all speculation at the moment but I'm sure it will be quite some time before that technology is utilized efficiently, and I don't mean results from prototype phones or giggly manufacturers fussing about its benefits.
tldr; this phone is boss
Thanks to all for the input. By all means keep them coming. I'd rather hear about this device from front line users rather than review sites.
I dont think Telus has a grace period where I can just try the phone for a trial period. It might be something I ask about when I call in for renewal.
I've also gone from Hero to G2 and love the build quality of HTC. I'm looking at the Amaze because it seems to be the best HTC phone out there that isnt too huge. S-OFF not being achieved yet might be a turn off, but I'm sure it will come soon enough? Still have some time so I'll just keep an eye out on this thread.
Thanks.

If you buy it at Best Buy you have 14 days or 30 min talk time, no restocking fee. Just keep your talk time to a minimum the first 2 weeks and test everything else on the phone. At a telus store I was told 14 days but a $50 restocking fee.
I'm loving my amaze so far and the development is getting beefed up. We should have custom kernels soon
I've been wondering the same, I'm on att though. I have an htc vivid and really like it but couldn't resist the great looks of the amaze so I bought one from the market place here. Should get it on sat. Get it set up for att usage and see if its worth it I guess.

Even if HTC were to discontinue the phone today it's still a 1.5ghz dual core 4G phone. The SGS2 is pretty much identical in specs. If the phones are so similar and the Amaze is no longer in production but the SGS2 is, then is the Amze "obsolete?" Your definition of obsolete must be different than mine.

With the second generation dual core and first generation quad cores on the horizon. Not to mention the big hardware specification push, it is/will be soon obsolete. I agree. You have a two year contract when you purchase a phone with a discount. Who here thinks that T-Mobile shouldn't start offering new phones before your two year contract expires? Seriously! The phone has been out for what... three, four months now? I would say that's pretty good actually. Don't worry about the phone itself though. You still have a 1 year warranty which will still be honored should you require service. It's still a powerhouse of a phone and we're expecting an update here very soon. So... what's the problem? You guys are acting like it's the damn G1.
You know to be honest I was expecting a better phone to come out about a month after ours did. I'm surprised that it didn't. But I'm saying this to people that are suprised that in this day and technological age your phone is old and outdated before you can manage to buy accessories for it. Just look at it this way... iphone fans are constantly being screwed by Apple and their yearly releases! You wait in line overnight to buy the new iphone 4GS or whatever and nine months later Apple teases you with the new iphone 4GS2 for a super low price of $600 because you're still on contract. Else they can wait for another year for the release of the iphone 5 or whatever. It's a sales gimmick and that's all there is to it. Yet you guys are surpised to see this with HTC? Naive I think.
Only thing you need to worry about is awful Dev support.
Im sorry I like XB and the others but this phone has just about zero Rom selection compared to SGS2 and other phones. Nothing even close to a workable ICS build.
The phone itself is fantastic mostly due to the camera , HW isnt what you should be worried about.

Samsung devices don't have to be worried about a locked bootloader either.

Yes its not the end of the world its just HTC Saying ok we aren't making the phone anymore tmobile n HTC aren't going to blow u off if u have a issue with it.
They are not going to make the phone anymore because of what's on the horizon. I say in about a month or two we will see a new HTC tmobile phone.
with ICS "wink"

I'm hearing everywhere that the phone will be obsolete in a couple of months. I'm scared I might get out dated when I just bought this phone like 1 months ago. Should I get rid of it and get a sgs2 while I still can or what should I do?
Thank you for reading this.

samsung has horrible support for their phones, except for ones running vanilla android, they are incredibly slow when it comes to pushing out os updates, im almost certain htc will give us a stable ics before samsung does with the sgs2

It might be "just a phone" but I paid a large chunk of cash for my phone and I don't like getting screwed over by Google.......not to mention Apple's bait & switch marketing.
Smartphones "smart" once you find out your phone will be semi-obsolete as is the case here with Google trying to tell software & hardware developers what to do.
stefnuts
All of this is true but don't you all feel that the htc amaze is a bad phone? You can't have a case because you lose WiFi signal, you have to put electrical tape on the back of the phone to prevent the flash from messing up your pictures at night, the haptic key light bleeds in the screen, the faceplate on the back creaks really loud when putting pressure. I did not pay over 600 for a phone to have so many problems.

T-mo news did post an article stating that the amaze 4g is reaching "end-of-life" and will he discontinued soon. This may lower our chance of getting more dev support, but let's be thankful for who we do have which is some great developers like xboarder, faux, and now nrg... Just have patience, soom good stuff is going to be coming to us in the near future, we just need to wait. No one has a perfectly running ICS with no bugs we arent far behind guys we will have what we want soon

I do not see why it is such a big deal they won't be producing htc amaze anymore(if that is true). anyway even the htc ville we are expecting to come out in march or the samsung bliss, they have nothing special, same dual core cpu, same speed + the camera that the amaze has is one of the best in the market. So I find all this "worried about my amaze" a little too exaggerated. and yes it is just a phone, if you are concerned just go sell it back and buy a new one when it comes out. hope your worries about the htc amaze do not keep you from living a normal life...extra stress is never good
I love my Amaze. I knew about the "flaws" before I bought it. To my amazement, it's better than I thought and read about. I fortunately do not have the creaking back cover(there's a fix), Wi-Fi range is awesome even with a case, GPS locks in seconds even inside the house, battery life last all day, awesome ROMs available (thank you devs, you know who you are, lol) the list goes on. My 0.02
In my room I have 1 - 2 bars of WiFi
With the case off I get full 4, pretty annoying

Anyone read the article on the Verge about HTC? I personally a little concerned for the company, but I'm sure things can get better! I love my HTC One.
Yes really disturbing news and it seems Android=Samsung getting reality sadly. :banghead:

Yeah it is sad to see, but Samsung is a monster when it comes to marketing budgets they had a slim chance to compete. I hope they pull through and continue pushing samsung and other Android devices to their limits. I have high hopes for this company
I also worry that articles like this will only hurt... people who are on the fence will read that and go with Samsung...
Personally I think they are going in the right direction getting rid of dead weight and poor performers.

I don't see the company going down. I believe they will do fine in the long run, they're just having a bit of a rough spot.
The HTC One is selling well. From here on out they should be fine.
If not Samsung will probably buy them out and HTC can design the phone while Samsung focuses on the guts.

At least they aren't fully invested in Windows phone (to ruin them even more) like some other great phone company we all know

Agreed. I've always had good experiences with call and signal quality with Nokia, from the 6820 and other TDMA phones back in the late 90s and early 00s to the Symbian-based stuff from a while back. If they put some quality Android-based phones together and offered them with a decent custom interface (like Sense) and unlocked, I think they'd make a pretty strong showing.

Ha, I have its big brother the Nokia 6800. That's not a typo, I still have it right here on my desk
I couldn't help but thinking that I have this power to kill phone manufacturers.
My first cell phone back in the mid 90s was the Siemens S3+ and then briefly the S4 (I bet not a lot of people here even know that Siemens used to make cell phones).
After that, I had a couple of Ericsson phones, the GH 337 and the GF 788 (you know how that story ends, they were swallowed by Sony, and then dumped).
Right after that, I became a huge Nokia + Symbian fanboy, the 6800, 6620, N80, E51, E63, E75 (and look at what happened to Nokia and Symbian).
Then three years ago I bought a Dell Streak (the first android phone with 5" screen that nobody really knows about. the following year, Dell stopped making phones).
Finally last week I got myself an HTC One. Look out HTC!!

I mostly agree with your statement, but I believe it will take more than one flagship to get them turned around and charging towards the front. Maybe after 1 or 2 more flagship they will really be doing well. I just can't see one phone having enough time to turn an entire company around. Especially after they bombed out hard with the HTC First. That was a huge mistake for them to try and even sell that phone.

It means that there will be a vanilla htc one or one like device and because of that the devs will (hopefully) be able to make aosp/aokp roms with very few to no bugs at all. Basically it's makes the job easier for the devs and the experience better for us.

Ever since I switched to Android, all I had were Samsungs...this is my first HTC android device and Im loving it so far. So to read articles about HTC and the tough times they're having is saddening. Samsung is the Apple of androids...the galaxy line is well known which is both bad and good. I really hope the HTC One can and will save this company because we need beautiful phones in the variety of androids. I like having choices!

Idk about all of you but I see a heck of a lot of S4s on Craigslist and not too many HTC Ones. Craigslist has been a great indicator for me in the past. I got this one for a note 2 and am glad I got out of Samsung when it is where I believe is at the top before a fall.
