[Q] 2.3.3 fido 2G radio trouble - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have a strange issue with connecting to the fido network on the latest android.. I live in a valley and the signal wasn't the greatest although it used to always work perfectly .. I could be in my basement etc without any troubles . Now it keeps connecting and disconnecting on me with any subtle movement. (edge /2g), sometimes it doesn't even find the network or sometimes it says that my sim cannot be registered on the network. As an example I have 3 bars but my phone state says emergency calls only..
Although if I go into town and connect to 3G it works perfectly with no disconnections at all... I've tried cleaning the connectors, the sim itself, even swapped the radio itself.. tried different roms even.. tried reflashing the baseband..
There are several 3G tweaks although never came across any 2G ones..
Might anyone have any ideas what I could do? Could it just be that because there has been no official release of 2. 3. 3 for fido or Rogers? I'm truly stumped...
Any help would be truly appreciated.
Thank you..

[Q] strange hd2 :s

ok well i got my hd2 a month ago everythings going fine except the sms! txts in my area are sent and recieved perfectly fine not the known bugs of the hd2 i suppose..bt the problem arises when i move to another location because it wudnt just send my txts through although i recieve them just fine..i know its not a network issue cuz i have tried my sim in another fone and it works fine also any other sim wud work fine excpet when i move to a different location :s is it a setting problem? and btw i have done the hotfixes etc....any help appreciated
Try switching the 3G mode off when in the problematic area, it can easily be a network operator roaming issue. I had a very similar problem when roaming with my 2G SIM, while having 3G enabled, yet experienced no problem with this on the home network.
hey thnx but unfortunately i dont have 3g here in my country...is is still a problem? any ideas what should i do?
You may not have 3G on your operator, but maybe the one you are roaming on got 3G. I would give it a try anyway.
oh and btw im not on roaming cuz im talking about the problem within my home city and not another just my area as in like its ok when m at home but the problem comes up when im like 10 miles away from home at university everyday..and even at some other places too
Sorry, but i cant think of any setting related to this in anyway, except for SMSC, that shouldn't really be a setting (should be stored on the SIM card). I would try switching GSM frequencies and seeing if it makes any difference.
any chances of a faulty handset?
Sounds totally unlikely.

[Q] problem with GSM network

i notice that my phone have problem of losing connections (phone signal) quite often which causes the phone cant make or receive call. i usually go outstations and everytime when i travel i have this problem. i thought it was the problem from the android 1.6 but after updating to android 2.1 through the SE website the problem is still there. recently i end up with the conclusion that my phone have problem with GSM signal, whenever i go to outstation where there is no 3g/WCDMA in the area but suppose to have the GSM signal i got this problem. please bear in mind that i have change and tried the setting for WCDMA ONLY,GSM ONLY & WCDMA/GSM PREFERED but the problem still persist, and please bear in mind i have tested with my other phone and it works fine at those places. please advise if this is the problem of the phone itself or just the setting of my phone. Tq
Exactly same case here, losing signal without no reason.Only one time I saw all 4 bars.Other phones works just fine.OS updated to 2.1,problem remains same, and that also affects to battery duration.

Cannot connect to network

Hi guys, noob here, just got my first android phone (been with blackberry till now).
I got a chinese X12 dual sim phone because i really needed only 1 phone (had to carry around 2 of them).
Phone works great, only problem is with the mobile networks. It can connect to GSM networks but it won't connect to a 3G network. The phone has 3G capabilities, 3G is enabled for the required sim, it finds the 3G network but it will not connect to it.
Sim works fine, had it in a Samsung i900 on 3G (WCDMA) - i live in Europe.
The thing that surprises me most is that the phone came with android 4.0 instead of the 2.3.6 it was advertised, could this be the problem?

yes, data is enabled on it, as for the access points it has them too (althought i am only trying to connect to the voice network, not the data network)
Tried one more thing which is wierd: the phone works ok with another 3G sim from another provider, but with the other sim it doesn't connect (but it finds the actual network). And the sim that won't connect works on my old phone (the samsung i900)
The first sim that works on 3G on my new phone is from Vodafone (and they have both GSM and WCDMA in my country), while the other sim that doesn't work is from a provider that only has 3G (for both voice and data).
Quick update:
i found out i also get an "error" : invalid IMEI for both sims - it was this way when i first got the phone...
really strange thing with this phone, in settings > about > it says android version 4.0 but when it starts it has the honeycomb logo...
would appreciate any help, if it's from the missing imei's that would be good (or bad, depending on how hard is that to fix).
You can call ##778# to get into those settings. But be careful, those can really screw up your phone if your not careful.
The only reason i can think of, is if your phone only supports certain UMTS bands, while your operator is using different ones. Check out this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands.
For example, my previous phone HTS Nexus One came in two versions - one for ATT(UMTS 850/1900/2100) and another for T-Mobile(UMTS AWS/900/2100). Both were GSM, both had 3G, but 3G would not work on another operator.

phone has only WCDMA 3G network - i tried it on different carriers (on 3G and not GSM) and it works fine, connects to 3G, it just won't connect to this specific network (although it finds the network there, so i guess it has the hardware to connect to it).
could this be from the lack of the IMEI ?
FIXED !!!!
Got it fixed, the problem was with the missing IMEI codes, put them back in, works like a charm.
I used the tutorial here:

Thanks for all the replies you guys.

OP3 sudden loss of network signal

Hello,
Ive been facing some network issues on my new OP3 (bought 1 month back)
The phone didnt have any problem at all till yesterday when there was a sudden loss of signals in both my airtel SIMS.
OP3 is recognizing the SIM cards but doesnt show any signal. I tried swapping SIMS, my SIMS are working in other phones whereas other SIMS still dont show signal in mine.
However there were 2 instances where i regained signal and was able to make calls while is was at a particular location, but even that lasted for just 20-30 min.
I was using android vers 3.2.4 when this problem happened, tried updating to 3.2.7 (latest) but it still hasnt fixed the issue.
Thought it was a null IMEI problem, but Settings show IMEI nos. of both the SIMS
Tried manually selecting networks, mostly it says cannot connect...sometimes it doesnt do anything
Tried changing preferred networks in *#*#4636#*#* , hasnt helped either
And yes I tried soft and hard resetting too, hasnt helped.
Please do suggest any probable solutions.... Thanks You

Network unavailable, please try again later

Recently successfully unlocked an M4 from Canada. Put in my local, brand-new working SIM card. No network, emergency calls only. Tried to change to WCDMA(only), back to LTE etc... nothing. Tried to manually search, saw various networks, tried to register, failed to register on network. Phone is unlocked, I tried the SIM in another unlocked Sony, got signal. Updated to MM, same problem. Is there a baseband issue? Regional lock? Network is seen but can't be connected to. Suggestions?

Most android phone don't have a separate "network reset" like iPhones do. I just took the phone to a different city with better coverage, got full bars but went back to no network available after a couple of minutes. Kept trying to make a phone call but kept dropping the calls before losing bars. Any ideas?
My Mrs has had a similar issue with her M4 Aqua in the UK sometimes she just gets no sim - no service and has to restart her phone but there's no pattern to how or why it happens sometimes it doesn't happen for like 2 months and then then she has to do it 5 times in one day...
This is across different roms and different sims.
Seems Sony cropped out on something to do with signal pinging on this phone because a few other members have mentioned a similar issue
