I'm running the same ROM as you and also tried to use wireless tether. I used it with the og EVO and it worked perfect. However I couldn't get WT to work with evo3d. Try barnacle WiFi tether. Worked fine for my 3d.
For the Sprint question I'm not sure, but I think $30 extra is ridiculous.

Wireless Tether NEW VERSION - 3.1 BETA6
thanks for the reply i am currently using clean rom 2.3 sp1.
on the road about to hit a pit stop hopefully i can try this out (let see if hp touchpad can go on line)
would sprint know that i am using tether and charge me?
some guy posted that he was using it until he was charged by sprint but the same person who posted this only had 1 post and wouldn't reply to me questions.
Wireless tether is ad hoc so Sprint shouldn't be able to tell the difference between the data usage

I haven't rooted my Thunderbolt yet because the mobile hot spot feature is free until 5/15 but after that I'm planning to root. So my question is which wifi tether app works best and what version?
Thank you in advance
I rooted last night just to test the difference. With the mobile hot spot I get 19Mbps down, and with the wifi tether app I only get 8Mbps down.Did many test on each and got same results. With internet connection mode I was getting 25Mbps.
I get better results with the Wireless Tether app for rooted users...ALSO my phone would over-heat everytime i used the mobile hotspot from verizon after about ten min. of use...i do not over-heat at all using wireless tether.
I also get much better results with wireless tether for root users.
I get the same results. Wireless Tether works better for me
Wireless Tether
Which version of wireless tether works better?
Thanks,
Im using the newest from the marketplace and it works great
I agree as well Wireless Tether for Root users is the best way to go. I get better speeds and better battery life with this one, although it is still probably a good idea to keep plugged in when tethering.
Wireless Tether for Root Users
I've also used Barnicle, you can get it from the Market. I find that both Wireless tether and Barnicle have issues from time to tim but when one doesn't work the other usually does so I keep both on my phone
I use pre 2.0.5 b/c it creates a infrastructure style hotspot.
I'm not sure if the wireless tether app supports 4g yet, but I live in a 3g area and have had much better results with wireless tether over mobile hotspot.

Verizon hasn't done anything yet, but ATT sent a text to some jailbroken iPhone owners using a tethering app.

Wireless Tether for Root Users is the best one available as of yet...
I know there have been posts in regard to this issue.
Wireless tether -- no go
Wifi Tether -- 4g only
Native Hotspot -- 3g only
The only Native Hotspot that I have ever gotten to work is with the Sprint Lovers ROM on the OG evo on Froyo only. I have tried the new SL ROM on GB and only 3g works. After reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172576 I may now know why 4g on Native doesnt work on the the 3d or OG evo. Was wondering if someone could incorporate the SL ROM "Wireless Hotspot" to the 3d and possibly the OG evo.
Thx
Mike

Wifi tether - only one that works for 4g, but gives me 3g speeds to the connected computer.. anyone experiencing similar issues?
I dont know if this will help ya but i use Barnacle...it does 3g and 4g and works great.
Barnacle is fine, however, it doesnt switch between 3g and 4g unless u manually adjust the software. I drive a cab for a living, so when i drive in and out of 4g, Barnacle doesnt switch like "wireless tether" for the OG evo or the "wireless hotspot" for the EVO on Sprint Lovers Rom 3.70 Froyo.

Roms
I've found that Virusrom successfully unlocked the built in wireless and wired tethering abilities. I haven't tested the 4g with it though.
I tried synergy nightly and also Virusrom with the wireless tether app, neither of them seem to work, only the sprint hotspot.
Has anyone found any other roms that have unlocked the build in tethering services?

ViperRom works with the native Sprint Hotspot app. Best rom out there too for stability and battery life IMO.

Sprint unlock only works from my Understanding...3G
hello all, I pay for unlimited wifi tether but can only get it on the rez rom I keep getting errors whether I try to use the official vzw or the wireless tether app its quite frustrating anyone have a detailed solution? I would like to use an ics rom but the wireless tether absolutely wont work on it. I apologise if this was asked before but I did a fair amount of searching. thanks everyone
Scott's CleanROM2.1 has a working 4G hotspot. He's a paying user of it as well so of course it would work in his ROM. Wifi tether works in AP mode as well.
I used to have Wireless Tether for Root Users back on my s2, I think it came with CM7 but it was also a stand alone app, was basically the perfect app, gave root users a reliable un-throttled tether. I tried installing it after tr'ing my s4 but it just turns yellow and says there's an error then acts like it's working. I'm guessing because it hasn't been updated in about 2 years. is there something similar to this? I've read pdanet+ combined with foxfi is supposed to be good but it disconnects randomly I guess to encourage buying the premium version. I'm moving Monday and could use a reliable wireless tether for my girlfriend and a reliable wired tether for myself. I'd like to still be able to play LOL using my 4g and it should be possible as my friend tethered both of us off of his sprint 4g. here's the old app i'm referring to:

Has anyone tried to get WiFi Tether Router working on the One M9 after root?
It worked fine on the M8, but I am still trying to get it to work on the M9.

Yikes !! That's not good.
I know OMJ said he's confident his ROM will have Native Tether working.
I'm waiting a bit before unlocking/rooting.
You should be ok with unlocking. That is the first thing I did as it wipes the phone.
I have yet to install TWRP and root as I have to digest how it affects the OTA possibilities. Honestly if native tethering is somehow enabled I might stick with stock rom minus some of the bloat. It isn't that bad IMO.

I prefer wait to see if Sunshine S-OFF will even need an unlock. It didn't for M8 which was nice.
Also if things don't change by the time my 14 days are up I might bail on M9.
I'm working with the developer now, but so far it is not working. Any other ideas for a Wi-Fi hotspot once rooted?
As of now, the developer does not know why it is not working on the M9.
Does anyone have any ideas?

bad boys is what ? rom .//? found it..
Yes.
Native Tethering works great for me on BadBoyz. USB Tether, Bluetooth Tether and WI-FI Hotspot has worked flawless for me since I got the phone.
Just FYI. Wifi Tether Router now works again with root only. No mods required.
See his release notes on google play. I ran RUU and let TWRP do the root. Fired up Wifi Tether Router and it works. Used Method 2.
I'd be curious is it works while roaming (I should say on CDMA). I'm pretty sure Bad Boys ROM with Native Tether does work.
FYI. Just tested. Wifi Tether Router will work on Roaming Networks (i.e. Non Sprint CDMA networks).
Ran RUU (.19) and only installed TWRP and TWRP rooted it. Then installed Wifi Tether Router.
I used this to enable native tethering http://www.cultofandroid.com/61639/enable-free-wi-fi-tethering-htc-one-m8/ and I confirm it works on the m9. And I'm not running a custom ROM. Just stock 5.1 rooted. It works on 3g/LTE

Does it stick after reboot? You on Sprint? I'd be surprised it's that easy given the work that Bad Boys and Wifi Tether Router had to do.
A lot of the comments on the M8 that this was for does not look too positive.

Actually it has stuck since I did it. I use it to tether my tablet while away from WiFi. I was surprised as well. And yes, I'm on Sprint.
From what I've read on this thread, WiFi tethering is available by rooting alone... Can anyone confirm?
Seems like bad boyz rom has WiFi tethering built in and functioning as an alternative option?

Has anyone figured out how to get tether working on Marshmallow? I just rooted and installed wifi tether and so far can't seem to get my computers to find the tether network.
I figured it out, I froze tether guard using titanium backup, then installed free tether unlocker from the play store, now Wi-Fi tether router is working, using the settings specified on the website
