I recently got this phone via a warranty replacement for my Droid 2 Global and after being used to custom roms and whatnot I was wondering what the proper steps were to root this device. I know the very latest release for the D2G couldn't be sbf'd (without an extra hacked sbf file) so I was wondering if there was anything like that for the X2. Ideally I'd like to get on CM7, which I gather requires a 2.3.4 kernel. The most important thing though is of course not bricking the device. Thanks for the help.
Find "Pete's Root Tools"
Put your phone into Debugging mode
Settings - development - check USB debugging
Hit the back button once and check "Unknown Sources"
Load up root Tools on your computer
Plug in your phone and put it in charge only mode
If and when your phone is detected by the program follow the prompts given and you should be rooted.

There is no root exploit for it. Sbf to 234( follow thelowend's guide) & use rootkeeper & apply the ud from sd card.

Yea
I can safely 2.3.4 sbf without bricking? I know with the latest D2G update Motorola prevented sbf'ing down to an older version. I didn't know if they did something like that with .418. I want to be sure it's safe.

I did it on a /418 warranty dx2 also.
Well I sbf'd to 2.3.4, rooted, and installed CM7. It feels good to be back.

Same here. Was part of the soak, SBFd and back on CM7 too. Couldnt be happier to be home. Darkside all day! So I'm wondering when root is going to be obtainable on this 2.3.5 besides the voodoo trick. That is the million dollar question...

I have no computer. I'm running on the latest OTA. Hoping there is some possible way to accomplish root. Any suggestions?
hi pros,
need ur help how can i restore my droid razr 2.3.6 gsm on mac?
Bootcamp
The safest way forward is bootcamp (i.e. not on OSX). WinXP is stable enough and will allow you to run whatever programs you need (including RSD, ADB, etc). Cheers.
ok so i have parallels desktop,...could you point me to a guide and will i have to install motorola drivers?
I've been enjoying root access on my Motorola XT910 on version 2.3.6 and was able to update to other Gingerbread updates. Apparently, doing OTA updates on my RAZR results with me losing my superuser access on my phone but I was able to restore it twice using "Voodoo OTA RootKeeper" app. However, just today, I updated to ICS and as usual, I lost root access. I tried restoring it using Voodoo but I could no longer run applications requiring superuser access this time.
Can someone help me so I can have root access on my device again? Should I re-root my device and will the old rooting method for Gingerbread work fine with a Motorola XT910 running on ICS?

That's kinda weird when I updated to ICS I was able to use voodoo to recover my root no problem. The newer versions of superuser have the ability to restore root access (like voodoo) you may want to see if that worked otherwise check out motofail's rooting for ics

Does anyone have an exploit that doesn't require a PC? I have a Mac mini and a laptop running Linux. Any help would be appreciated.

Some of the easy root tools in the development section work on linux and PC.
Check for the threads entitled "[Tool]"...a lot of them are very easy to use.
I was wondering is it possible to root the Droid Razr without the use of a PC? I ask this question cause I don't own a PC and I am fairly new to this setup. So if anyone can answer this for me I would greatly appreciate it.

As far as I know it is not possible to root without the use of a computer. I believe you must use an unlock utility to gain root access and therefore would need the use of a computer. The process isnt long at all so maybe a friend could let you run the utility on his computer?
