My DX2 is rooted on 2.2.2 and at least twice a day there's an update thing that pops up in order to update to 1.3.232 and I can either install it now or postpone it. I've been postponing it for a while now. I was just wondering if I try to update it, will the phone be fine. Will my root access just go away and the phone will be updated? Sorry if this question has been asked already. I looked around, but couldn't find anything about it.

Just accept it, what's the worse that can happen? You have to SBF? Doubt it. You'll probably have an unusable SU icon in your drawer, but the 1-click root will fix that up.
Get crazy my man. Accept that update.

Update using P3's rooted GB instead of take that update it will let you keep root
DX2 Update
Yes. Your phone will have Gingerbread installed and the root will go away. But fear not, just follow the instructions here on how to root GB on DX2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234973
Alright. Thanks guys. I'll just try the update
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Okay, so I just tried to update it and when it was showing the progress bar it stopped about 1/4 of the way through and then the Android dude had an exclamation point, so basically, it failed

Do you have any system apps frozen and/or deleted? If so, I believe that will stop three ota from downloading.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Thread moved
yeah make sure everything is unfrozen. If you deleted apps you'll have to SBF. Which at that point you could just SBF to GB and avoid the OTA all together.
I did have some apps frozen and I unfroze them and tried again, but yet again, it failed

like they said above... if would be easiest to do the neccessary app backups and just sbf with the p3 gingerbread...
I don't think it will update with root... Just sbf to P3's gingerbread rom and you will be set to go.

Yes, it will update with root but you will then lose root. But all you have to do after that is use the one cluck root method. I would make a nandroid. Backup after that so it will save you time if you start flashing ROMS and need to restore again.
I don't even care about having root access anymore. I just wanna update, but it still fails even after unfreezing all the frozen apps I had:/
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
You must have a few tiny changes still there that you forgot about. This is what happened to me on my og DROID. Just sbf P3's rooted gingerbread and you will be set. If you need help with sbf there is like 5 threads on it on this forum.
Cheers.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Well, I was just trying to keep it simple you know just hit install and there I go, but I guess not. I even tried deleting all my root apps to see if that would do the trick, but still nope
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Yeah, root sometimes does some tricky stuff with your phone. And it isn't all that complicated to sbf, download the files plug your phone in and click start and your done. Its super easy.
Cheers.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
And um I think you can go into your build.prop and change your forward facing android version, so it tricks the phone into thinking it doesn't need to update. That is if you want to stay on froyo, look around on google if you want to go this route.
Cheers.

sbf to 2.3.3
all you need is RSD and the sbf file for 2.3.3, if it doesn't work the first time try it again. sometimes ya gotta try it twice. and if you want to root it once more there is a one click solution for gingerbread.
here's the link for 2.3.3 sbf
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201534
Just got my hands on a Milestone X2. It came with 2.3.6 already installed. I've been searching for rooting information but most of it topped out at 2.3.4. Any ideas what to do next. I'm already missing apps like adfree lol.
I would try zergrush and/or petes one click root. May not work in that version but can't hurt to try.

I've been on the 75 leak for months, and gotten so used to it that rolling back in hopes an official build would be released soon is now miserable... 181 is great GB wise (I ran the 75 leak before 181 was released). But I miss my ICS setup SOOO badly... It's only been a few hours, but good GOOGLY MOOGLY I miss ICS...

Depends on which leak he's running... 84+ are stuck with it for now. I used Matt's tool (modified RSD) to roll back. You can find the tool by searching here, or on droidrzr.com. If I weren't mobile, I'd post a link, but I'm out & about. If you can't find it, I'll post a link later.

Just being rooted won't change anything, you'll still get the update message.

haven't got root restored yet, razr utility and motofail can't seem to do it. voodoo didn't keep it through update.

ICS was great. Got my Maxx now so I'm happy about that. Moto Blur's Gingerbread isn't bad though, compared to other GB Roms (I didn't care for sense much). ICS will be here soon, I was patient enough to wait for my Maxx, so waiting for an update for it should be no problem.

Was about to run the 75 leak until I saw this in another thread... Think I'll wait a bit longer. I don't see a date, but someone else said that Japan will be getting it May 30th. We should get it too, and if not, soon after!

So I'm on the leaked .84 build of ICS. If/when the OTA update comes next week, what will I have to do? Will it prompt me to update? Will I have to roll back to stock Gingerbread to get it (and if so, how do I do that)?
Sent from my DROID RAZR Maxx using XDA Premium
You'd have to return to completely stock. Fastboot back to .181.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA
You are off the upgrade path so you'll need to use one of the unstuck methods to move to the ota version. Or wait for fast boot files. You cannot just flash back to gb. That will soft brick your device.

Follow the instructions in that thread.

I don't know why you are still on 84 but once the ota drops you are going to have to use the same method we used to get off of 84 to get you flashed forward to the ota. Might as well flash 211 today to get familiar w it. You can't do anything else w 84 anyway,
I might get a replacement device, and I wanna know if you can unroot ics? Also, what's the easiest way to root? I don't wanna go through the whole setup on my new phone.

Yes you can unroot ics. The easiest way to root is probably Matt's utility. Lastly, if you are on ics you can't return your phone. You have to restore to gb.

It is the official version, but it has not been officially released. You had to be rooted to have ics, therefore your warranty is void.

It has not been officially released yet. You had to be rooted to install, and root voids your warranty. Unless you are on build. 79 or lower, you are stuck until OTA comes and you can update to it and unroot.

It was rooted at some point to install ics. It could be done on the stock recovery (I think) but you need root access to put the update file in the proper location to update (or use ics installer) Chanced are the person you got the phone from either unrooted or didn't restore root after updating. The point still stands, the warranty is void because they can tell that it was rooted at some point. People can get away with rooting and unrooting because there is no evidence that it was rooted.
