My phone carrier signal is weak where I live and the Galaxy S2 switches to neighboring country on international roaming for any incoming/outgoing calls. How can I restrict to local GSM for voice calls? It was easy in my Windows Mobile HTC to select network but I cannot see how to do it with this phone? All help appreciated...
Would that not be settings turn roaming off ????

I'd have thought so, but I cannot find any such option under settings to stop other networks. Only has option for Data Roaming On/Off or Select Preferred Network operator. With preferred network chosen the G S2 still roams internationally whenever the preferred network signal drops out! How to stop is the question? I rather have no network than pay huge international roaming when receiving a call.

From what I've read, it's possible to to disable the high speed connection and leave only EDGE and other slow connection by change network mode to GSM only. However when I tried that on mine, I lost all connections altogether include voice call, and left with "unregistered sim, emergency call only". My carrier is CDMA, so not sure if that has anything with it.
What am I missing here?
Hspa 3g only on gsm system.
For cdma you have 1x and evdo..don't know if you can disable evdo or not. Please see setting/wireless & networks

why do i have a "R" signal on top of my signal strength. i have not enabled data roaming. i no longer have any internet. as far as i know the apn is correct and i am on XXK14 modem. Its not ROM issue as well as i have already flashed official rom but the problem still persists. It may be a stupid question but its wearing me down.
funny thing is when i enable roaming i get data although only GPRS.
any ideas????
The "R" is for network roaming (not data). May change to another network if lost connectivity.
Menu / wireless & networks / mobile networks / network operators ..... and change back to your "home" network.
Edit: I'm assuming type not actually roaming though.....

[Q] Unselect "Use only 2g networks" causes phone to loss connection to network
Since Monday my Galaxy S2 can't use 3g networks anymore.
It only connects to my carrier if "Use only 2g networks" option is selected, otherwise it won't give me the possibility to make calls.
Anyone has a clue about what should be ruining the radio communication?
Is there a way to try to "reset" the carrier configs to the default?
I mean, I hadn't change a thing but on Monday my carrier had some signal issues in my area and I think this could be the reason of my phone's confusion.
More than likely carrier issues.
Please contact your provider to see when the work / fault will be completed.
Please update me with your progress xd, who is the carrier by the way?
fkofilee,
But if the phone can't connect to 3g, it should still connect to 2g networks, right?
I mean, unchecking the option should not make the phone lose signal, because 3g would be only another way to reach the carrier.
I'll try with a SIM card from another carrier to double check.
The carrier ir OI, I'm at Campinas-São Paulo-Brasil.
Unchecking the option will disconnect the phone signal very briefly.
Please ask your carrier tech team to give you carrier APNs info.
That way you can be sure the info your getting is correct.
Also check your APN settings...
All of sudden everything is back to normality.
Surely it was carrier's fault.
Thanks for the answers!
Hello Forum!
I want to limit my phones data traffic to go over one specific network when I am roaming.
I noticed that after you loose signal of the chosen network for some seconds, it doesn't just say there is no network - it switches over to another, stronger network.
Reason for all this is the 3 LikeHome roaming tariff which afaik we more or less exclusively enjoy here in Austria.
Data Traffic, Calls, etc are handled as if you were in Austria - you just have to stay in the '3 LikeHome' network.
Is this doable?
thx
Phone: Samsung S3

My phone's mobile network is keep switching from 4G to 3G and 2G, I turned off choose automatically and register on sorted 4G but no correction to the problem, I even dialed *#*#4636*#*#* and choose LTE under preferred network in phone information but network is still switching to 3G and 2G. Any other solution?
