just wondering what the newest hardware version is right now. I got mine a few days after release and I have 0002. If someone who just recently got it could check would be great!

My wife's new (refurb) SGII is arriving today. If the phone arrives with 2.3.4, is there any way to block or refuse the 2.3.6 update? I assume it is recommended to stay with 2.3.4 if possible? I do not wish to root.
I just got my refurb the other day and it came with 2.3.6. Yours will probly be the same.

From what I have read. I would block it, especially if you are not looking to root. I have also heard that it may update on its own, so you may only be able to block for so long.

Just don't click the software update button and you'll never see it. It will not automatically push to your phone. I got my refurb at the beginning of Feb and it had 2.3.4.

Sale Price
Check out the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1561099
The on-line sale price for a new Samsung Galaxy S II is now $9.99. I just bought mine last week at $99.99 so I called AT&T and they credited my account. Great deal at $9.99!
Damn. What's funny I got tired of my Backflip and added a second line for my fiance and took the GS2 and gave her the flip. Go figure my actual contract just ended and I could've gotten a new one if I waited a month!

If yours comes with 2.3.6, you can always flash 2.3.4 if you want. There should be no negative side effects.
You can prevent the OTA update by deleting the download manager, but of course you need to be rooted first. You could always root, delete it, and then unroot.
What is your reason for not wanting to root?
i got my refurb yesterday and it came with 2.3.6 already. what exactly is the problem with having it? i was able to root and install a custom ROM pretty easily. i had 2.3.6 on my atrix too before i switched.
2.3.6 had some serious wi-fi/battery drain bugs..

Nothing wrong with 2.3.6 in general - but the AT&T UCKK6 build for I777 is AWFUL. It has some major power management issues.
Later I9100 2.3.6 builds, like XWKL1 and XWLA4, are much better.
I monitor my battery drain pretty closely. I get the same per hour battery drain with 2.3.6 (UCKK6) and 2.3.4 when My location is not enabled. 2.3.6. is slightly better battery-wise when I have My location turned on. Plus, 2.3.6 has a few fixes and improvements.
Holy ****! $10 is a great deal. Got mine during the $50 sale at Radioshack on Black Friday. if you get the 'package' deal its only $0.01. Everyone tell your friends!
Trying to convince Mrs Slavestate to get one instead of waiting for the iJoke 5 this summer but after our experience with the Motorola Backflip she hates Android now haha.

This store has a display Razr Maxx with firmware version
6.12.799.XT912.Verizon.en.US
How do I get that? the settings button is on the right side instead of the left side like "current" version does 6.12.173.XT912.Verizon.en.US
Is Verizon just really this strange with Firmware updates?
To no surprise I got the most ridiculous answer from the store employees that have absolutely no knowledge of anything beyond their POS (POINT OF SALE, not what you were thinking) cash register.
Anyhow know where to get this update?
if its not ICS then no one really cares too much about which version it is.
Any chance of you going back and snapping a pic? It's not that I don't believe you, but.... Okay that's exactly what it is. J/k.... But seriously, any chance of a pic?

I feel ripped off. I bought what was supposed to a "new" Maxx. Says there is no update available...
My build date is Dec 28th.. I'm writing my Senator.
This is all really interesting. What does it say for the kernel version.

I just read it was an update I got from another site. You would have to do it.
if you cover your body in peanut butter and honey and howl at the full moon on the 31 of this month while holding your phone you will be granted the ics update to your phone.

If I go into that store and buy a Maxx, will I get that firmware? It's close by my home. Just curious.

I don't know? Before you buy it though, check their display model. It has newer firmware .799 etc.
They give THE weakest excuses for why we don't have/get firmware updates though. Even Sprint made up some better ****. lol
I think is demo version firmware the same thing happened to me when i had a bionic and was the demo version firmware

The volume-up switch broke on my EVO 3D (the one I bought last June 27th, I believe it was), so Sprint ordered me a refurbished replacement phone. I picked it up today and when I got it home it wouldn't charge, so I brought it back to the store and they swapped it for a brand new one that had never been updated, so it still has Android 2.3.3 and hboot 1.40 on it!
The refurbished one (the one that wouldn't charge) had been upgraded to 1.50 so I had pretty much resigned myself to doing the Unix brick downgrade trick on that one, but now I'm so happy I could just ish!
Okay, I'm through squealing like a little girl now..

Hi, just received my replacement s3 and wanted to know if anybody else's phone was updated to Lf2 out of the box? The reason I asked is because the previous s3 I had was manually update by myself from le8 to lf2. It got me thinking that I've been given a reconditioned handset by my network that had been updated by the previous owner. Please could someone look into this so I can confront my network provider. Many thanks
the galaxy s3 is such a hot selling phone that maybe all devices with that version would have finished and you maybe got a newly manufactured product!!
Thats good for u
I suggest you call them and ask.. my carrier did that to me when I had the One X.. they said it was brand new but it wasn't.
No harm in double checking..

Received my SIM free SGS3 last Wednesday from amazon - has alf2 also.

so, what I said was true
Basically if the seals on the box were intact, then you're good to go
Thanks everyone, my mind is at rest

Too soon for reconditioned, refurbished units, right now they would have replacement stock (new) and they would probably be updated. It happened with my Note. Original was Made in Korea, replacement was Made in China.
All my phones from Orange have the manufacturer seal broken and replaced by Orange. They do this to put the bloatware on?
If it's unbranded, seal has to be intact or else its been used as demo or tampered with.
