[Q] Phone wont connect with my Mac - HTC EVO 3D

I just moved and the comcast guy came over to hook up my internet. I know he was messing around with my computer because he told me he was having problems with it. When he left I went and plugged my phone into the usb and didnt get the option to connect to the Mac. Has this ever happened to anyone and does anyone know how to fix it? Before he came I used my Sprint hotspot on the computer, could that cause a problem also? I want to flash roms again haha!!

I'm not familiar with Macs, other than FreeBSD OS X is based off of. Hot spot shouldn't have any impact on the connection.
I know its a basic step, but have you tried restarting both the phone and the computer? Sometimes both computer and phone can become finicky to auto detecting the USB connection.
If you've already restarted both and still have the issue, I don't think you need any drivers for the Mac OS X, should be able to use adb directly from the terminal?
Another place on the EVO 3D to check for settings, Settings -> Connect to PC. You can change the default behavior and also make sure its still toggled ON to prompt when connected to a PC (Mac, same thing).
Sorry the suggestions are very elementary, there really shouldn't be too much of an issue around this type of basic USB connection. Hope the suggestions help resolve the issue!

Cannot Connect to PC

Hey guys,
Recently I have not been able to connect my phone to PC. I've tried hard resetting, as well as loading the phone in "upgrade" mode (power+camera+reset) and in both cases the PC did not recognise the phone...
it says "unknown device found" when in "upgrade" mode and says nothing while connected while in windows.
Any ideas guys? I have a micro usb card, but not an adaptor so i'm clueless right now I've tried the phone on different PC's so its not the computer either.

Bad USB port on the phone or possible a bad cable. Did you swap cables too?

i have this issue randomly too. i find that by switching 'Enable Advanced network functionality' off or on (opposite of whichever setting it was when i had the issue) that the phone connects with no problem. i'm actually having a problem as we speak connecting to SOTI Pocket Controller, and i turned off the advanced network functionality and now it is working fine. Settings --> Connections --> USB to PC.

Right but that wont affect Bootloader mode. He said he has the problem in bootloader. That I think is a bad cable or bad port.

I've tried the phone in a different port and different computer, no luck. I dont have another cable but i'd be willing to get one. Would it be worth it for me to try to reinstall the ROM on the phone along with the radio?

No, I meant the port on the phone. The mini USB port. I had that go bad on me once. From me picking up the phone by the cable when I was tethering to desktop PC. Yeah, I dont do that any more.
Do you know anyone else with the same phone? if so have them try it on your rig with your cable. That will tell you right away if its the phone or not. Cant think of anything else to try without a control device.

So I picked up another USB cable and still no luck... I also flashed the phone to the stock rom, and no luck again. I think you're right about when you said it was a hardware issue.
Here's another question though... would it be worth it returning the phone now, and getting another phone of the same model, or could I just use Bluetooth for active sync, return the phone in 9 months, and hope they'll give me a better model.

Its always a roll of the dice on that.....if they still have Moguls in stock in 9 months, which I believe they will.....chances are slim for an upgrade.....but you never know...

Need help: USB connection problem!

Suddenly I have USB connection problem. First of all, under the Ongoing tab of the Notification Bar, I no longer see the following two items (/Settings/Applications/Development/USB debugging has always been ON):
* USB debugging connection
* USB connected
Apparently my Mac doesn't see the internal and external SD cards either. So I can't use my Mac computer to copy files, nor can I install or flash anything without USB connectivity.
I searched previous threads, and saw people suggested installing drivers. Where can I find the drivers for the phone and how to install it through a Mac considering I don't currently have USB connection? Thanks in advance!
Oh Sigh. Macs. Ummm.
Can you verify your phone and cable are good? Go to a Windows or Linux machine and connect them. You will need the Samsung (or Nexus S if on Gingerbread) drivers but those should be easy to find for Windows and Linux. After you verify that your phone connects to those computers fine, you can rule out that it is not the phone's fault.
I believe but don't quote me on this that the one time I did connect a Mac to my Vibrant I had to have Development mode like you stated but even then I couldn't copy stuff to it (not entirely sure, it was a long time ago). Still, I don't think I needed any drivers for the mac as I was using Development mode. I remember it was a bit of a ***** to get the Mac to recognize the phone but it finally did.
A little googling found this:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s/109040-problem-my-mac-recognising-galaxy-s.html
Read that, I think it may be helpful. Notably, check the Ask on connection. Also ensure the USB port on the mac works by using something else with it.
PS: If you wish to be flashing and playing with your phone, I would advise you against using a mac. Reason is macs are very nice with apple products but if it's not an apple product, usually it has a hard time being supported as manufacturers don't support Macs for the most part.

Thanks a lot for the willingness to help! Unfortunately this is really not a Mac issue for two reasons:
1) I had no problem mounting the phone with my Mac during past three months; And I had done many things for the phone with my Mac: rooting, unlocking, flashing, adb, ...
2) I just tried connecting the phone with a Windows computer now, and it couldn't recognize the phone either.
Any other thought or options for me? Without USB connection, I can't even directly download the pictures from the phone.

[Q] Device not recognized by ANY computer now

Hey guys, I did try searching, but if I missed a post please link.
Problem is this: Randomly at the beginning of the week 3G stopped working, and along with that (probably unrelated, but never-the-less...) the phone, when plugged into any computer, would not be recognized ("Unrecognized Device" and under device status is it would say "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"). I did fix the 3G issue, but the phone still won't connect to any computer.
I've tried on computers with and without samsung drivers, with the phone both in and out of debug mode, usb storage both on and off. Currently on my PC it sees that it is a samsung device, but it has the yellow triangle, signifying that it still cannot start the device. Cannot ADB into it obviously, and cannot even get ODIN to see it when in download mode. Yes, I've also tried 2 different cables.
Using Windows 7 on all the computers I've tried it on (don't own anything older unfortunately/fortunately) and currently using ComRom 2 RC 2 PBJ (though this started on ComRom 1.3, and have tried the OTB kernel as well) thoughts?
Thanks guys!
Have you tried booting to CWM while plugged into the usb? That usually fixes it for me.
what i do is go to device managers look for your device and make sure the right drivers are installed once you install the drivers everything should be good

just gave that a shot. new dialog box popped up "usb device not recognized".
I'm probably going to try and go back to stock, but I'm not sure if that is really the issue.
Same thing here.. no idea what to do.. last time this happened I installed/uninstalled drivers until I thought I was going to puke.. even now I'm on a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 with SP1.. so .. this is really starting to suck!! Plug in the device and INSTANTLY "device unknown"... Yeah.. right!
Have both of you tried changing usb setting from mass storage to ask on connection? Uncheck usb debugging, go into usb settings change it from mass storage to ask on connection, go back and turn on usb debugging, then connect phone to computer.

I will do this promptly and post if there is a success story.. har har!! Thanks for the tip.. we'll see..
/EDIT/ Does nothing... nothing at all.. I hear the sound when USB is connected to Win7 ... then immediately says "unknown device" doesn't even seem to try and pull drivers.. it's almost ready to fly out the window...
/EDIT2/ Well I just got one step closer... I basically uninstalled ALL USB hosts, etc. Restarted, they installed.. then plugged phone in.. recognized, got the "installing device drivers", then FAILED to install... I'm lost.
Now here is the actual message that I am getting, I can only assume OP is too...

Oddly enough, I'm not getting that. I'm getting error 10, device failed to start. I'm sure these are related somehow.
Also, I did try the above suggestion, with no success. I did notice though after I unchecked "usb debugging", told it to ask on connection, then re-enabled usb debugging i get "no accessibility services" which I'm not sure is an issue, but it is never-the-less an error message. does everyone get that message?
thanks for the help everyone

I get that message everytime I check usb debugging. Just click OK and everything should be fine.
All I know is that it's out-right ridiculous.. I seriously doubt there is anything wrong with either of our phones since this has worked fine to this point.. I'm just trying to get back to stock using ODIN .. but can't .. I am so frustrated I can't figure it out..
Something interesting here.. I plugged the USB cable into a port and windows said it was an unknown device.. I just plugged the cable in.. bad cable issues??
I have been attempting to fix this very problem for weeks. Nothing has worked. It won't even recognize the phone in Recovery or Download mode (Odin or Heimdall). I'm getting tempted to request a phone replacement.
For me it started right after I installed blackberry drivers on Win7 x64. Does anyone else have this in common? Maybe recently installed other USB drivers? Perhaps the problem and the install are mere coincidence? Anyway I ordered a new USB cable so I'll give that a try.
Also, has anyone trided naven's format utility? I'm starting to think this may be the signs of the USB port dying.
I wonder.. will there be an issue for service if I have a rooted phone with custom rom installed? That's the only issue right now about sending the phone back.. and the more I think and mess around with it.. if I hold the plug snug in the phone and wiggle the cable some, I can connect and disconnect... I think my cable is messed up ...
I think I have my issue resolved... Usb cable is bad... My buddy has the same cable end to his phone charger and it will charge my phone... And now my cable won't even do that... Need to find a usb cable to verify but it seems these cables are very sensitive... Check your cable OP...

I will update on if my issue is fixed when I get my usb cable on wednesday. Fyi, the samsung cable is available on amazon with prime shipping for around $2-3.

Just picked up a USB cable from Walmart .. not a bad deal and guess what? Fixed 100% ... Was a bad USB cable. Never again will I use the Samsung USB cables.. only lasted about 3 months.. LoL.. All fixed!!! YAY!!!! OP - I think you will be all set as well once you get your new cable..
Replaced the cable and I still have the error. =(
I'm not sure what else I can even try...
EDIT: Fixed it. Uninstalled all USB drivers from my system and let windows reinstall them. toggled USB debugging on the device and mock locations on and it works. What an odd problem..
I Also solved this issue with a new cable. I had tried a different cable and still had the same problem.
So I wasted much of two days troubleshooting. Finally arranged for a warranty replacement but still had the same problem. I was getting ready to do a clean installation of windows and it struck me. Try a new cable, even though the two cable test ruled that out.
I figured that was worth a try before rebuilding windows.
The new cable fixed the problem. The 2 cable test should have revealed this. It's possible I had two issues and the warranty replacement and the cable fixed it.
Sorry that a second cable didn't fix the problem for the person above me.

[Q] Rezound wont mount to PC

Love my phone, but I can't get it to mount to my pc. Before the latest update I was able to use easy tether and access my sd card to transfer files. After the update neither the PC nor the phone do anything when plugged in, other than charge the phone. I've only found one computer that I can mount my phone to. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? I've tried multiple USB cords and even HTC's support line. They seem to think Verizon's media manager is to blame, but I think it would happen with all of us if that were true.
BTW phone is completely stock.
I have the same issue.

Not Quite The Same
My computer doesn't recognize my phone at all. My DINC worked fine on every computer I tried it on, too bad I can't get used to the smaller screen and the 3G speeds again.
What does your computer say under device manager? Might have to update drivers, or delete them and reinstall them.

Just one entry has a problem, but my coworkers Samsung Captivate works in this PC. The other computer doesn't have any issues in Device Manager. When I try to update it the Hardware Update Wizard says that it could not find a better match for my hardware. I can't post the image yet, 8 more posts to go.

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the HTC drivers. You may also try a different USB port, if you haven't already.

Yeah I think it has to do with the Verizon bloat. My Dad's work computer won't see his phone but it sees mine just fine. We both have Rezounds, but mine obviously isn't stock like his.
Tempted to hard reset
I'm so fed up with this that I am tempted to let Verizon do a factory reset. Either it works or they'll send a refurbished phone and hopefully that will one will work. Either way one way or another its going to cost them man hours or phones. I'm fed up with the bloat and the problems it causes.
I'm posting from my Windows 7 i7 gaming rig. My Rezy is usb connected to my rig. I can navigate both my internal memory file system as well as my SD card file system from Win7.
My Rezy is locked and stock, btw. I love this phone.

[Q] Can't mount to PC - Stock 4.0.3

I have a stock Amaze which I bought used. It charges fine through the USB but I can not mount it to my PC.
The PC does not acknowledge the phone at all and the phone does not acknowledge the PC at all, It just begins charging. I asked the previous owner, but he says that he always used a card reader and never tried accessing the phone through the USB port.
Has anyone run into this?

I've tried multiple computers and multiple cables including 2 OE HTC cables with the odd end. I've restarted the PCs and the phone. I tried with USB de-bugging both checked and unchecked. I haven't updated any drivers but I did install HTC Sync on one of the computers. I would think that even without the proper drivers, I would at least get an error message but I get nothing.
you need to install the htc usb drivers for the phone to be recognized by your computer.. open device manager and go to usb settings.. plug your phone it to see if it registers on the device manager.. after you installed the htc usb drivers (you don't need htc sync thats for updating and backing up sense)... if anything you can try to factory reset your phone..

I installed installed a driver package that that was named "HTCDriver3.0.0.007". Nothing registers in the device manager when I plug the phone in. I'll try a factory reset tonite and see what happens.
Also, I sent a message to HTC support this morning, but I didn't get a response yet.
Thanks for the help so far. If anybody's got any more ideas or experience with this, I'd love to hear.

There's no sound from the PC or phone, but the charging light does come on.
if the light comes on the device is connecting to the computer.. if there's no sound the device isn't being recognized by what your plugin it into.. there could be one issue with the usb drivers on the computer and or something wrong with the usb port of the phone.. do you have another phone to connect it to the same cable.. using the same usb port on the pc to see if that phone gets recognized by the computer...? if it does then there's a problem with your phones usb port.. if it doesnt then it might be the cable or the usb port.. do the following un-install all of your usb drivers.. even the htc one.. restart your computer in safe mode with networking and then re-install the drivers and then plug in the phone to test it.. or you can boot the phone into bootloader by removing the battery from the phone then re-inserting it and power on the phone by holding volume down and power till the phone boots up.. go to fastboot and see if the phone recognizes the usb from there...
i still think the main issue here is driver related though.. maybe you have a virus on your computer messing with the drivers or firewall or antivirus or something.. but try the safemode with networking first before anything else...

If anyone cares to know, I got a response from HTC. They had me do some tests which I had already done (different cables, different ports, reset the phone), which of course didn't work. They told me to call the service center. The girl I talked to seemed reasonably knowledgeable. She told me that it's very unusual for the port to be bad in such a way that it charges but won't pass data, but that it was not impossible. She checked the serial number and told me that I was on my last day of warranty and if I shipped it that day it would be covered, assuming there is no damage due to owner misuse. So I sent it in.
Assuming they can and do fix it, I'm not sure if they will give me any details as to what was wrong, but I will let everyone know what happened. I saw a few instances online of people having the same issues as me with HTC phones but no one ever seemed to have any solutions.
i'm not shocked that htc wasn't able to help... 75% of the time the people working tech support don't know anything they always read "steps" to fix certain problems from their database... **** i learned so much about computer's from google its not even funny... i don't call tech support unless "google" cant find a solution.. lol

My Amaze has been fixed under warranty and will supposedly be here tomorrow. I doubt HTC will tell me what the problem was, or whether it was a hardware or software issue.
Thanks for all the help. You'll be hearing from me.
