Hello all
I have tried to
- Modify gps.inf to point to my region (using adb in recovery)
- flashed 2 different radio firmwares
And still my legend takes anywhere between 4-15 minutes to get a fix. If I get a lock and turn off the gps and then again turn in on within a couple of minutes I get a lock within 20-30 seconds. But if I wait a couple of hours and then turn it on - it is 4-10 minutes all over again. When I finally get a lock it work falwlessly with copilot live.
Any ideas ? I'm aiming for the 5-15 seconds gps fix I see Iphones and several other phones/GPS waches etc. have.
I am running CM 7.0.3
Try CM7.1 RC1, gps works without problems
Remember to leave mobile data on, is needed to
synchronise the phone clock to the ntp server set on gps.conf;
once you have locked your location you may turn data off.
http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/gadgets/travel/gps3.htm
CM7.1 RC1 has a problem rebooting the phone when you turn
wifi on but I get around that by turning wifi on from
Settings/Wireless & networks/Wi-Fi settings
what version of radio do you have ??
7.13.35.05
Wow, CM7 nightly 176 is the bee's knees
I'm sticking to this until the stable 7.1 comes out.
But is the wifi reboot the only problem with the legend ? i have heard that the battery drainage is big.
I went to 7.1 RC to backup my SMS from before my vacation (where I flashed Sense), and went straight to Nightly 176. Oh my goodness!
There were no more WiFi reboots, and the biggest news for me: THE BATTERY DIDN'T DRAIN AS MUCH! IT WAS GREAT! (compared to 7.1 RC and, oh God, Sense) I no longer have to really depend on my second battery to last me the rest of the afternoon...maybe just an hour in the evening now
The battery experiences awesome life in Nightly 176. I would recommend you check it out.

I've turned off use wireless networks, I've checked the GPS settings (Bionix rom has them set to default) and my GPS (using the test tool) can see 9-12 birds if I let it sit there for 30 seconds or so, but after 20 minutes of letting it sit, still doesn't lock on to ANY of them.
I'm using the stock kernel, gps used to lock (although unreliably) on the older build (whatever comes with stock...JFD I think?)

Try sending a message to team whiskey to see if they can help you. Did you install any other updates after installing the Bionix rom and also make sure you give the stable release with fixed GPS a try.
I'm on bionix 1.8, I was outside for 45 minutes and never got a lock.ridiculous.
You guys should re flash. I've ran both 1.8 and 1.9, both lock onto 10/11 sats and 20ft accuracy in less than 15 seconds.

Nope; it's a fresh install of Bionix 1.9. I was thinking of doing an ODIN back to stock and then reinstalling Bionix just in case there was some remnants of a GPS fix left on the device but I figured that would have all gotten wiped by the Bionix install.

Same issue here. I flashed back to JFD via Odin and still had the issue. I then upgraded to JI6 without making any real changes and still have the issue. I've been on Frankin-Twiz, and Bionix 1.8 and 1.9.1 and hadn't ever seen any improvement.
I take that back. I installed GPSTest and ran through a procedure where I cleared 'GPS Aiding Data' (or a similar name) and was finally able to get a fix after sitting and waiting for 10 mins or so. Immediately following, I was able to use Navigation for the 1st time with this phone. Unfortunately, it didn't stick.
If I have 'Use Wireless Networks' enabled under 'Location and Security' and open G-Maps as I sit at my house, it can find my location based on my wireless network's SSID. If I drive away at that point, GPS is able to track my location and Navigation does work.
However, if I open G-Maps while I'm already on the road, it cannot get a fix. Or, rather, it can't get a fix in a reasonable amount of time. I don't consider 10 mins reasonable since anything I'm trying to do which is location-sensitive is usually more urgent than not.
In short, this sucks.
^ exactly the same.
Running OMFGB 1.2.0.
Whenever I attempt to use Navigation, GPS locates me like it should, navigation begins then GPS is lost and never reconnects. Appears I am not the only one with this issue. Two others posted in actual OMFGB development thread, but no responses.
I really enjoy this ROM, but need to get GPS to work correctly.
Any ideas???

There was a GPS bug located in CyanogenMod that has been fixed in all of the CM7 ROMs, as fas as I know. This was also an issue with the Froyo CM6 ROMs (and, I think, even the Conap's Eclair CM5 ELB.) See this post in the GSB thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11377484&highlight=gps#post11377484
Anyway, try one of the CM7 ROMs instead, if you do a lot of Navigation.
Yeah this is a problem with both omgb and omfgb. note that the gps signal is not lost, but the navigation app stops communicating. I prefer omgb over cm7 because the exchange mail actually works. Unfortunately, the developer of these roms is not as responsive as some other devs. If you haven't tried gsb, I would. Everything but exchange mail works.

Edit - I tested a bit more. Gps status does not lose fix, but navigation and maps do after 5 or so.

I ended up going back to CM7. I really liked the default load of OMFGB. Didnt have to tweak all the screens and settings, but oh well. I got CM7 almost where I want it.
Thanks!
3 Different ROM GPS not working
I tried 3 different ROMS for gingerbread OMGB, Condemned CM7 and GingerTaz 27 and in all of them I cant get google maps and Osmand to connect to satelitte. It keep losing GPS connection after 2 minutes and never been able to reconnect.
everytime I flash the rom I did full wipe (data, cache and dalvik).
Is there any gingerbread Rom that I can try which has the GPS problem corrected ?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Yes, I'm on V3.3 and GPS worked flawlessly today...
...as for on performance. I am running it at 787Mhz/480Mhz ONDEMAND and seems to be ok.

Similar experience here with several GB rom (by Tazz, CS, Mac & OMGB/OMFGB - GPS would usually start & work - but if I start driving away in NAV (within Car Mode or standalone, even in Map mode) - it will announced "GPS Signal loss .... screen display Searching GPS, etc." & won't regain functionality - even if I were to pull over and use GPS Tool to reset/download fresh datasets. I gave up - been careful & spending time doing a full SD wipe, clearing cache data & dalvik and checking/verifying all the steps - all of the developers are working hard on solutions & resolve the issues.
GSB seemed to be most reliable, V3.3 was excellent as I used it last week on a 3 hour freeway road trip and it never once lost signal/navigation - used it alongside the old trusty Garmin unit. Grabbed & flashed the latest V3.4 GSB release and it's just as good, if not better, for other minor fixes - not running the Super Charger script, bumped Performance setting up one notch to 710/480 and Boot reset, JIT off and everything else default. Using moderate ATK setting only - and I'm getting very good results overall on this GB custom ROM. Very responsive & I'm not going to push the speed any higher as it is excellent in my scoring of this "EOL" device with zero trade-in value to VZW, LOL.
Let's keep in mind that all of these GB roms are basically all work in progress, not exactly "Final Release" but seemed to be getting close to being declared a "finished product" ready for prime time, but GSB is my "biased" preference as a daily rom over the others.
I am currently running ICS Passion v13rc1 w/ flashed cleanup:
If I boot my Vibrant I can get deep sleep normally; however after I've opened my maps with GPS on I can no longer get into deep sleep. BetterBatteryStats shows that the partial wakelock is due to GPSLocationProvider; and the only way to get back to deep sleeping is to reboot my phone.
I've tried turning off the GPS & all the things in the Locations settings. I just flashed from Odin -> CM7 (wait 10 minutes, reboot) -> v13rc1 (wait 15 minutes, reboot) -> cleanup (wait 15 minutes, reboot) -> update SU. The GPSLocationProvider only starts to show in partial wakelocks and burn battery after I've opened the Maps app.
I've looked through the Passion v13 thread and have only seen this come up in one post (from back in v10, where the user said that rebooting after using the maps was the only way to get back into deep sleep).
Has anyone else ran into this problem and figured out a way to remedy (without having to restart everytime you open up the map)?
I have the same problem, and the only way I've figured out to fix it is with a reboot. Still searching for a better solution.
I have the exact same problem, don't know how to fix it.

GPS does not work for me. Eats battery too.
I have been trying to get my GPS to stop using Network and only use GPS. I have the exact same issue you have, but I have to reboot to get GPS to work again. I had to stop Data, reboot for the GPS to operate on GPS instead of network. Once I use Map, it converts my GPS to Network and I am done. Reboot for GPS to work. And yes I tried everything except the hardware hack.
Formatted the system/data/cache etc etc and reinstall from scratch. I cannot use the *#*#DIGITS#*#* to get into the LBS Menu. Does not work after the upgrade to ICS, too bad.
Anyways, any help with this would be appreciated. I know its a bit differnt than your issue, but its soo close because IF I could restart the GPS without rebooting, I would be happy with the Passion build very much!

F**k ME this kernel is awesome it fix the GPS problem and my battery last for almost a day
thank you thank you thank you
I was too quick to celebrate. after a grate week the problem has returned, battery gets eaten and GPS won't wake.
having the same problem on cm9 with glitch installed.
yagf2-GPS Fix for ICS
I had the GPS problem where it would not work after installation of v13rc1. To solve the GPS problem, I used the following: yagf2-GPS Fix for ICS.zip. After flashing this, my GPS worked with no issues, no battery or sleep issues.
I hope this helps.
I found that a lot of the battery drainage, inability to go into deep sleep for me has been from 2 sources of partial wake lock.
1. GPSlocationprovider
2. Mediascannerservice
I found that 2 apps that are fairly common that cause the wake lock on the GPSlocationprovider has been official facebook app and google maps. I can easily uninstall facebook and never use it again, but unfortunately can't go without google maps...
Also found that freezing DRMcontent... service using titanium backup stops the mediascanner wakelock from occuring, but with each reboot of the phone, I need to defrost and then freeze the service again, in order to stop the wakelock.
I'm running AOPK Build 28 with Kiss 5.1 kernel.
Hi everyone.
I've recently flashed back to fxp's 151 cm9 couse i got enough from stock rom, even after clenup.
The reason i got back to stock is that on cm9 it took abot 15-30 minutes to fix gps sats, sometimes no fix at all.
I really love cm9 couse there is nothing else alike, not even close, but even in fxp151 no change on gps.
BTW tryed to modify the gps.conf to my country (Israel), NO luck.
Can anyone please configure something with that???
Hope for your help guys...
anyone, please...
Download "GPS test" from play store, go to settings and clear A-GPS and check "keep screen on". After that, leave phone somewhere with a clean view to sky for 5 minutes.
Now you can watch what is actually going on while locking signal.
Download GPS test, go to settings and check leave screen on, clear A-GPS data and update A-GPS data.
Leave the phone somewhere with a clear view to the sky, window is OK also if you can see the sky. After 10 minutes check what you can see on the main screen.
You should see something like this:
I've noticed that on CM9 GPS doesn't work as it works on b.10 (Xperia U) where it needs only few seconds to lock signal but it works.
Just leave it for 15-20 minutes and it will lock. That screenshot is from CM9.
Is your 3G activated when you run your GPS scans?
No luck either
I have a very similar problem with my xperia u.
I recently rooted the phone and once I had it up and running I checked everything including the GPS. It was a little slow but still got a positive lock. The next day, boom, no gps and none since.
Things I've tried:
Unrooting
Soft restore
Hard reset
Toggling flightmode/bluetooth on and off
I even took the back off and made sure the antenna was connected properly.
With the back cover off I was able to get 4 very weak signals in places where I usually get lock in under a minute
I've left it out with the GPS Status tool running for at least 30 minutes and no luck.
I'm running ICS 4.0.4
My personal theory is that something has screwed the antenna cause it just seems to be getting zero signal.
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks
I got it working!!!!!
I think I cracked it!!!
Just to cover all my bases I relocked the boot loader. Now I get signals and a lock! I don't know what on earth the boot loader lock has to do with the GPS but apparently there is enough to prevent the signals.
Hope this helps people in the threat a bit.
Still got problems
Use an application called fast GPS. It's on the play store

Hello everyone!
This is my first post and I apologise for my english
I have very big problem with GPS connect. I was trying probably everything and I haven't idea how to fix it.
To the point: when I'm staying in one place and not moving, GPS fixing in few seconds. But few minutes later (1-2) or when I move few meters, HOX+ losing connection with sateliltes and not want connect once again.
I was installed GPS Test and is seeing some satellites, but not want to fix or connect is losing in few minutes.
I was installed: GPS Test, GPS Fix, Faster Fix and nothing. I was installed Venom ViperX+, Revolution HD and still the same. I tried this trick ( YouTube v=NfH48nbCFE4 ) with GPS antenna but isn't better...
My HOX+:
Rom: Venom ViperX+ 2.0.3 (on 2.01 and 2.0.2 was the same problem)
Android 4.2.2, Kernel 3.1.10-g7f360be, Hboot 1.72, Radio 3.1204.171.33
Best regards

I dunno but try changing kernel, i use elite kernel... i had the same rom but changed it due to lag d)
Which apps that you use have problem with GPS connection?
I remember I used a speedometer tool on my HOX+. After turning on, I waited few minutes for gps signal. It stayed on "waiting for gps fix". But when I opened Endomondo, this fix came immediately.
Maybe it really depends on the app that uses GPS.

I have problem on any app - Google Maps, Google Navigation, Sygic, GPS Test, GPS Fix, Real Time GPS Tracker and few others.
Now I'm making backup's and I will try change kernel...
EDIT:
I flashed Elite Kernel and still the same
Tommorow I will try to install another ROM, but I slowly losing hope...
It's possible that some app "blocking" or something wrong doing with connection?
Edit 2:
OK. I installed Revolution HD and was the same. Flash kernel to Elite and still nothing better.
I returned to ViperX+ with "standard" kernel, I opened phone and "improved" GPS antenna and.... is better! More satellites, faster fix, better signal, but still sometimes losing connection for few seconds (and connecting again which earlier was impossible)...
