Is there an app that after taking the phone off the charger will log the following:
Calls made including total time
SMS sent and received
MMS sent and received
Time spent using the browser
Emails sent and received
This would be great for people to share their battery usage and what they actually did while off the charger.

Currently using Handcent as my messaging app (but have also verified this in the stock messaging app). Whenever I get longer type of texts from my friends (most using iphones) it shows as a MMS message.
Is there a setting I may have missed to stop this? It's getting really annoying.
Also, is there a way to disable that stupid slideshow when someone sends more than 1 picture in a text?
I text back and forth with my wife all the time... She has an iPhone 4S. I have never had any of her texts arrive as MMS unless they were that. I still use the stock app and running on the stock ROM unrooted. You said you verified this on the stock app, but was that ever before installing the Handcent app or only after?
As far as the stupid slideshow issue... I hate it too... Even if it's only 1 single solitary picture it will play the slideshow... Stupid... Not sure why, but I can't help with that.
Should be normal......... depending on how much you're typing. If you pass the length of 3 text messages, it automatically gets turned into mms to be able to send all of it in one go.
If you're typing less than 3 text messages worth and it still gets sent as an mms, you have a problem.

I have a group of at least 1000 contacts that I need to send regular sms to, which is the best app to use?
I've tried handcent (crashes always....latest version), chomp sms (max of 9 contacts), go sms (I think this one works but I'm not sure if all contacts are listed, I only tried adding them but not actually sending them (because it's gonna be expensive if I send them out unecessarily.
Anyone with similar experiences? I need to be sure that it reaches all 1000 contacts. I've been working like hell adding contacts to a new google account.
wow.. that's insane.. I'd suggest using the gmail app to send a mass msg like that. you can select the sa.e group of 1000 from gmail, and email their phones, you can send it as an SMS or mms.
as far as insane mass texting like that good luck... I know there's a tweak in villain rom that lets you send unlimited messages at once, not sure if it crashes at 1000 tho

Insane yes but I have to do it since I'm on marketing lol
The only thing I entered per contact is their mobile phone so no email. And nope I can't use gmail for sending sms in my country.
Anyone out there who has tried pullin off something like this?
You could create groups with maybe 100 contacts in each. Would be easy to see if go sms pro works then.

I too would be interested in finding a good solution for this too although I only have to send around 600 at max.
Btw, 1000 ppl to text. Wow. I have nearly that many contacts but thats including businesses etc.

You can try our SMS Marketing Service app that support unlimited sms sending per hour (we have 40 sms add ons, so you don't worry for 100 sms limit per hour)
Does it use your minutes when someone leaves you a message ?
If you call in the to check it, that call will. If you retrieve it via email or the app, then no.

What about if you have your phone set to forward missed calls to your google voice - voice mail? Does the forward take away from your minutes?

The question was if someone leaves you a 2 minutes message will it count as minutes used.
Just the leaving the message ...
Put your Google Voice number in the AT&T A-List. I haven't used a single minute in over 9 months. Leaves the minutes for the rest of the family. I have a 5 user plan and we have no worries about minutes because of Google Voice. My wife did the same thing and she hasn't used a minute now in 2 months. The kids get to burn through 1400 minutes
I can't add the a-list feature...

Please don't quote this but I think if you have it setup so that your Google voice rings after your at$t number it will use your minutes if you answer the call but not if it rings through to voicemail..only way to know is to call your phone from another..let it ring through to Google voicemail and leave a long message..and check usage(I'm on T-Mobile and it usually has a breakdown of recent activity within a couple hours) I know I see a lot of call forwarding on my bill but that's because my setup involves an extra number.
Line 1(old) to Google voice to line 2(new)

Now that I've gotten a lot of my friends using whatsapp, my text messages have dropped significantly, it's gone from 8000 texts a month to 1500 texts. Now I use whatsapp as much as possible.
Who here is using whatsapp more and more?
Do you think whatsapp will eventually be integrated like a BBM service?
I am currently using whatsapp and viber for text messaging and phone calls respectively... Much more efficient that using my monthly text and call allowance... Although I used to be a fanatic with whatsapp, I have started using Viber a bit more because it integrates both text and call capabilities...
i use a lot whatsapp, but unfortunately people i really care doesn't have it =(
Whatsapp is the future of texting
I use it a lot ...and I think its way better than Bbm
Unfortunately I can't try it, for my phone is off and I can't get the verification code. Although from the screens I've seen, I don't like the ui and design. I use kik Works perfect, but yes; no need to have texting with apps such as whatsapp, kik etc.

Im using it to chat with my girlfriend so i save a lot of money from texts...but unfortunately people around me still dont have android phones and using old music nokia phone with capative display and thinking its awesome to hit it with a nail...and others are just iOS douches who using kakao and other ugly craps but itll be nice to have whatsapp as main android chat service since Gtalk is just regular looking app which refuse to work if you switching between 2g and 3g often (in Czech republic its common problem, only 10k+ population cities are covered with 3g signal)
Never used Whatsapp, I sometimes use Kik though, which from what I've seen of Whatsapp, is better in every way.
I use whatsapp more than i text, its freaking awesome o.o
Is a shame that is not available for Bada. I'm using android, but my gf have a Wave S8500.
I'm using whatsapp intensively too. However their server sometimes delays and my messages cannot be received. Only in that case do I have to switch to sms

8000 texts a month? I find that hard to believe. Isn't "unlimited" texts on any contract limited to 3000 texts a month anyway???
Not accusing you of BS but I'm just curious!

I don't know about "Unlimited" contracts, but I get over 4000 texts a month just on my crappy £15 a month contract
I tried to convince my friends to use WhatsApp, but they denied it. Therefore I'm using it neither, because it would be senseless
I've recently upgraded devices and would like to give my son my old Thunderbolt to use like an ipod. I do not however wish to activate the phone. Are there any apps that will allow him to make calls or send sms messages when he is connected to wifi but has no phone number or data plan attached to the phone? I'm pretty sure he can make and receive calls using skype, he already is able to video chat with that...but I would love to be able to text him when it's time to come home etc...
Thanks!
Google Talk (chat/sms) and Hangout(video calls)? no number needed, just wifi connection and gmail account.
He wont really be able to send sms (considering it requires a phone number of some sort and/or access to a phone system).
I guess he could using sendsmsnow. website that can send sms to numbers and receive if he registers an account. Never used it so I'm not sure about the details.

I think you can try HeyWire from the playstore. It'll provide you a number upon registration and then you are able to send and receive message through it.

It's already been said, but I can't say enough how cool google voice is! You get your own custom google number and can text unlimitedly for free. The only limitation is no picture or video messaging...but hey, it's free!

Thanks a lot everyone! I tried out Text Free because it was the first suggestion and it works perfectly. I may give Google Voice a try also, but it's working as I hoped it would!
