Power Button - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an issue of the power button sinking in. It sunk down so far that I am thinking of opening it and repairing/replacing it. I sadly do not have warranty as its been purchased from someone and I would like to ask if anyone here knows if its possible to repair it or replace it. (If its possible to replace, where to purchase parts as I cant find it anywhere. Only volume button seems available for purchase)
Edit: Opened and seems like it uses some sort of sponge type substance under the button, guess I have to replace that.

Here is a tutorial on how to do it... Good Luck!
http://teambamf.net/showthread.php/1320-How-to-mod-your-power-button

Cant say how perfect that is. Thanks a ton.

No problem, thank the guy who wrote it. He did a very nice job and I was actually considering trying to fix mine too, it is really sunk in and a common problem with the Thunderbolt.

Do alot of people have this issue? This is the first time i have seen this on here although i havent read every forum on here . So far so good with mine, no depression of the power button?
How long have you guys owned the tbolt?

Replacing button decal?

Anyone have any info on this? My "ok" button and some of the other's decal are starting to chip off and it makes it a real pain to look at. I just want to know if i have any options on replacing these or am I doomed to keep looking at them like this till they eventually all come off.
Same Here...
I have the same problem! Let me know what you find out!! Thank!

ditto i have same issue
really hoping someone has an answer for this
I'm having the same problem. I actually just noticed it the other day. Its only on my End call button and my softkey on the same side. i'm pretty sure that its from taking it out of the holster and the little metal clip rubbing against it.
ah that makes sense. i knew it was coming from the holster but i couldnt understand why, would still love to know if we can replace em
LOL, wow i thought i was the only one. Ive never dropped my phone but my top right soft key and windows key is completely chipped off clear now....it looks kinda cool actually lol....
Chipping
I used to work at a T-Mo Tech Center. There were about 20 out of the couple hundred of us who owned the wing. I introduced every one to XDA and often took friends' Wings home to upgrade thier ROM's. Over half of them had chipped buttons (ie Softkeys, Start, and OK). I always thought those friends didn't take care of thier Wings...until it happened to mine, and I am overly careful with it. I think the best thing we can do is let HTC know, this way It will be taken care of on future product releases.
Interesting post and I am glad the issue is being brought to daylight. It's not fun having a $400(+) phone have a $300(-) look.
Did you work in Frisco? I work in RP at the Jefferson Commins site.
Add me to the list, my ok button is completely scratched off, I thought it was just me :-D
add me to the list also my call button is chiped off were can we buy replacemet buttons
Wow this many ppl need new button decal and we all dont have a clue where to get it... I almost went as far as trying to get a replacement phone from t-mobile just so i could get em but sadly that didnt work out...
As I stated before, it really didnt pop up until about 6-8 months after starting using it. Its coming from the little magnetic clip on the holster.
If not replacing the decals....what about the buttons? Is there anywhere you can buy just the front keypad.
I know you can buy a housing for about 55 bucks, may be worth it. Pretty sure that the front keypad comes with it. I found this...
http://cnn.cn/shop/tmobile-wing-housing-p-1839.html
From that page:
"The camera cover and buttons are not included"
not a bad find at all, i think the buttons they are talking about is the keyboard seeing as those are the only ones missing. And it does say it has front keypad
Yeah, add me to the list too. My end button is starting to chip. Seems like a big problem. You think they would have maybe made the buttons clear plastic and painted them from the inside so it wouldn't scratch.
Add me too!
So I have the same problem as you guys. I know a lot of people whose buttons are completely clear now... I found this site, but i wish i could just find the buttons to buy too. Any help would be appreciated.

that's way too much just to replace the buttons.
To the guy that thinks it's his case: It's not your case. It's these cheap ass button. I don't use a case at all and it came off. Why couldn't they make it the same quality as the send/end (green/red) buttons? I'm sure the Herald users aren't having this problem.

On my first wing the send/end buttons were chipping too. Like you said, a combination of cheap and poor design.

(how I fixed it) Dropped my Touchpad - touch not responding

Hey all,
I recently had an accident with my 32GB Touchpad I managed to recover from, so I thought I'd share the story for the benefit of anyone else who encounters the same issue. That said, if you do have this problem, proceed at your own risk. I am not advising you to do anything I did below, rather I am sharing my own experience.
Basically it got dropped around 6-8 feet down a carpeted stairwell. It appeared to land on the side edge with the volume button. To my surprise, the screen wasn't cracked and the buttons responded, but it wouldn't respond to touch.
First, I know this isn't covered by the warranty. [SOAPBOX] Of course, one could just lie to tech support and possibly get it covered, but that isn't how I roll. I've gotten by well in life by being straight with tech support but not taking any bs, not gonna change now.[/SOAPBOX] So, I did a live chat with tech support just to see what it would cost. Short answer, $238 for a tablet I paid $150 for. So no, I decided that if I couldn't fix it myself I'd part it out to others with broken displays etc, or give it to a dev. If I got any money for it, I'd buy an actual android pad.
Once again, PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK! I take no responsibility if you damage or brick your device.
Past experience told me that most likely a connector inside was the culprit. I search the forums and interwebs for dissembly instructions. I couldn't find any good ones, but managed to figure it out from the following two links;
http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/globalcitizenship/environment/productdata/Countries/_MultiCountry/disassembly_handhe_2011617223529.pdf
http://www.techrepublic.com/photos/cracking-open-the-hp-touchpad/6253940?seq=8&tag=thumbnail-view-selector;get-photo-roto
If anyone knows a good dissasembly tutorial i missed on youtube or elsewhere, please post it. Anyway, I found the ribbon cables from the panel were indeed partially pulled from their connectors (see attached ribbon 1.jpg). Flipping up the black covers (see attached ribbon 2.jpg) I was able to reposition it and flipped the covers back down.
After a bit of trouble reassembling it (due to my being rough with the side catches around the bezel), my Touchpad is back to its former self, not counting a few scuffs in the plastic around the bezel from by hamfisted work. I'm happy, and my wife is happy I'm not eyeing the Touchpad I just gave her for her birthday . I hope someone benefits from this post, as I've benefited from others' posts here. Just trying to give back.
interesting read. Knowing what you know now, how long would think the whole process would take?

No more than 15 minutes. Of course, I'd try to find a better tool like the one pictured in the linked PDF in my post above. Just gotta be sure the catches around the bezel are free so as not to pull up them up as you lift the lcd panel. They're actually separate pieces of plastic, not part of the bottom mold. One had slide out from under one of the PCBs. I had to remove a few screws to lift said PCB to reposition the catch, otherwise the panel wouldn't snap back in fully.

It's not a video, but the steps for various replacements are quite well explained here : http://www.ifixit.com/Device/HP_TouchPad

I definitely give the thumbs up with that tutorial. Very good. A pocket knife blade was my tool of choice to take the cover off!
Thanks for the tutorial.
Sorry to revive the old thread. However, my touchpad is not responding to touch, everything else is functional (it boots perfect and able to update using JC toolbox to latest 4.4.4).
I tried to plug unplug the video connector few times (after disassembling) but still it does not respond to touch. Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Do you still have WebOS or a touch enabled recovery installed? That could help determine if the problem is more likely hardware or software. If it is hardware you have already done what I could do.

I have completely wiped the system and removed the WebOS by using JC toolbox. However, I do have touch recovery and while booting in recovery also have problem for touch(does not respond to touch, can select using volume up/down and home button). Does it mean touch screen is now defective? Can it be replaced and is it worth try? Appreciate your input.
Thanks

I would agree it sounds like either the digitizer or control board may be bad. I don't know enough to say more though. As for if it is worth it, do a search on eBay. Used Touchpads sell for under $100. New for around twice that. Nonfunctional units sell for under $50. Maybe you get lucky and can buy one with a working digitizer. If it were me, I would buy a functioning used Touchpad and sell the bad one. Or keep it for spare parts. With current more powerful 10" tablets selling new for $300-500, I'd be careful not to put too much into it.
Good luck!

I couldn'd find any "more powerful" tablets with 32GB ram and wireless charging. Do you know some? I bought a used touchpad then.

You got me on wireless charging. ☺ Not counting that I was thinking of a Nexus 9 or 10, or a Galaxy Tab. A Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1" 16GB goes for $320. It has a microSD slot and an Exynos 5 Octa CPU.

Well if my son continues to beat my TP up the way he does, I will definitely look at this method for the first step to solving possible touchscreen issues haha, thanks

[Q] Loose power button

Anyone else having problems with the power button? It still works, but it feels very loose and sloppy. My volume rocker feels very good, but the power button feels loose to the touch when I rub my finger over it. It even gives of an audible creeking noise, and I can hear it jiggle when i hold the device and shake my hand slightly. I tested a display unit at a store, and the power button on that one felt great.
I'm going to try and have my phone replaced tomorrow because it's a DOA (defective on arrival) problem. Hope they don't give me any problems. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue?
EDIT - It might not sound like a big deal to some of you, but I really want such an expensive product to be perfect. Looking past this issue, I really love the phone, but this is really annoying me
Defo get it replaced mate, its an awesome phone but something like that could ruin your appreciation.
It NEEDS to be perfect, mine is, so should yours be.
if you find it different from the one in demo unit and if you cant adjust with it , just replace it asap mate.
Got it replaced today, this new device feels great!
Hello, i am having the same problem, i am worry that whether i can get a replacement from samsung malaysia or not. i not really like to put it there to repair. can u tell me where u from?

Dedicated camera button stuck

Does anyone else have this problem? My camera button gets jammed inwards a little bit. I can always get it back out, but it is very annoying when you are trying to take pictures. I have it in burst mode and it will take twenty pictures. Thank goodness for best shot.
Same here. It's actually kinda stuck inside now. Sprint said they need to replace the phone, but I do not want to do it to keep my nice hackable hboot.
Yea. I do not want a replacement phone. I just want a fixed phone. I'm kind of hoping it will fix itself after being worn down a bit. We'll see. It's such an annoyance though. Good luck with yours.
In the accessory section there is a website that you can by parts for replacement if I remember correctly the camera button was cheap

Xperia Z3 CD slot car holder - one that won't press the buttons!

Hello,
As I've searched and sworn the last couple of days searching for a CD slot holder for the Z3 which won't press the buttons on the site, and managing to find one today, I figured I might as well share, perhaps someone else is trying to find the same thing.
The only place I was able to find it was on Amazon DE and on Ebay (same seller, though from Amazon they wouldn't deliver to my country).
I did find one other variant from kwmobile but quality seemed worse.
Anyway, hope it helps.

Well, my gripe was that my current one was sometimes pushing the volume button hard enough to activate it
Still haven't received the one I mentioned, but looking forward to it
Looking at your link, my current one is pretty much like that, it's this one here (well, used to be, mine is cd slot, not air vent, but it seems Amazon changed the item or something)
I recently bought the one from BrainWizz (I can't post links). I lock my phone between camera and volume buttons and even without any case it doesn't touch them

yeah that would be a pain, i guess its one of the things that you have to look out for especially if you dont have a case.
out of interest the one you purchased, are you able to use the headphone jack while in the holder? thats the only reason why i got mine i cause i sometimes plug into my car so i can listen to music incase i forget my ipod.
Cheers
It hasn't arrived yet but I don't think so. I never considered that since I connect the phone to the car via a Bluetooth which goes into the aux port of the car.
On a second thought, I've had it for 2 weeks now, quality is crap, I definitely do not recommend it.
