[HELP] Photos won't come up in the Gallery? - TouchPad General

Well, I'm taking pics via the FreeCam app, but they won't show up in the Gallery.
When I connect my touchpad to my pc, the folders with all the photos are there, but it just won't show in the gallery.
Anyone encounter the same problem? I am Oc'ed and have preware. I tried removing the kernel but nothing.

happens with screenshots as well. Not sure of a fix for it yet. You can view them via Internalz but its still a pain.

Thats weird though. Before I oc'ed and installed preware it would show up instantly after taking the pic.
Music too, now certain songs dont play.

I had the same issue. Unistall what ever kernel you have, re-install it and do a full reboot. Not just the one it does after it installs it. And they should start to work, you may have to download the pictures again though in some cases.

somewhat related note.
When I hook up my TP to the computer and put pictures in the wallpaper folder, why doesn't it show up in the gallery after I remove the USB ?

fixed it.
uninstall muffle system logging via preware.
then do 2 hard resets. (hold power and home til it turns off)
then it will show.
you need to do 2 resets. Don't know why.

the software is not very good, it doesn't pick up where the pic is.
It did work for me to put them in wallpaper folder. i made another folder within the wall paper folder. have tried that?

I just tried doing this..
After the first hard reset..
My Touchpad keeps rebooting when it gets to the HP Logo. It's not stopping at all..
Another hard reset does nothing.

Your TP is in a bootloop? There must have been something else wrong w/ your TP then. Uninstalling an app and resetting shouldnt cause a bootloop.

I tried removing the kernel step and the removing the muffle system step and they still dont show :/

I maybe wrong. But. I had same issue and turned off the view pic files in internalz. I haven't tried muuch but it seems to of worked. But again idk for sure.

[Q] How to back up when screen is dead?

Apologies if this isn't purely a dev question, but developers would be most likely to know the answer and other devs most likely to benefit from the answer.
If your touchscreen no longer works, how can I make a backup? So I don't lose my photos, contacts, and need to reinstall every app/every setting when they give me the replacement phone? I'd temp root and run Titanium Backup but with the touchscreen bad I can't even unlock the phone, let alone navigate the menus in TB.
My Evo 3D touch screen suddenly went crazy yesterday. I try to drag the ring to unlock the phone and the ring just jumps up a bit, wiggles a little, maybe unlocks, but then when I'm on the enter pattern page I can't because it doesn't register my finger properly, it registers touches sort of but won't register finger drags. The phone was working fine, it was plugged into my car's USB charger and audio jack, but right after I disconnected this happened.
(I tried safe mode, tried removing the battery, tried plugging into the normal HTC charger, screen just acts crazy.)
Thanks!

Can you connect with HTC Sync? I think you can backup from there but I'm not sure (I have Sensation but used HTC Sync only once)

Thanks! I didn't know HTC Sync existed, now downloading and will try that. Will post back when I see what it does and doesn't do, and if it'll work without my screen being usable.

you could use adb shell and copy the important thing to the sdcard if they aren't already there iirc pictures are stored on the sdcard anyway... you can also use adb pull to grab the files and put them on your computer.
pictures are already on your SD card, apps automatically reinstall after android 2.2, and your contacts should sync with Gmail. settings you would have to setup again.
BTW this should be in the Q&A section.

Hmm, installed HTC Sync but it just says "Device not connected", it looks like you need to make sure your phone's USB setting is changed from "Charge Only" to "HTC Sync", which I can't given the touch screen issue.
For those that want it, you can find that software here:
Download HTC Sync Software
And per the advice of others in this thread I found the following which describes using adb shell to backup key data. It requires root, though, so you'll need to temp root. I haven't tries this yet, but this will be next:
Backup/Restore with ADB Shell
^ Quinxy
Why not just pull the SD card and back that up. Or keep it. Swap it with the new phone. Thats where your pictures are. As for your apps that sucks but not a lot can be done about that.

Ah, yet another touch screen issue. Mine is doing the same thing, but not as bad. Did you try just rebooting? (you probably did)
But, as suggested, I would do the temp root and then copy files from there that you need. But if you have your gmail account in there, it shouldn't be an issue.
This might seem like a stupid question but do you have anything covering the screen? Otterbox, screen protector, sometimes I get a few drops of water on screen and it won't respond until I wipe clean and then turn off screen. This is just to see if the screen really is not working or if something is making it think that there are multiple contacts on the screen and not responding to your finger.
Thanks for your help everyone... I've successfully moved everything to the replacement phone. For posterity and anyone who wants to needs to do the same... Here's what worked best for me.
1) Temp fre3vo root with Busy Box, SU, etc. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152101)
2) Backed up apps and settings to computer via adb pull. Apps are in /data/app and settings are in /data/data.
3) Moved SD card from old phone to new phone.
4) Avoided Market setup until I restored settings. Restored settings from computer via adv push AFTER weeding through the list of pulled items and moving out any items that were com.android, com.htc (or had htc or android in the name). Altered permissions on the dirs I copied over. Android looks like each app has a different owner (e.g., app_145)?!?! So I just chmod -R 777 the dirs in question (leaving the others as they were); surely there's a better solution, but it worked, I'll try to fix it better later.
5) Ran Market, let it reinstall the apps it knew about.
6) Copied over a few setting files manually, like the wifi supplicant file.
7) A few apps didn't automatically install from Market so I went to my backup of /data/app and ran "adb install foo.apk" to install those remaining apps.
8) Re-installed two apps which force closed (Super Manager and Lookout Mobile Security).
And voila... All my apps and app settings were moved to the new phone without much fuss!
Hope it helps someone else.

Screencast
Download Screen Cast http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/. It's Java Based and works on all operating systems.
Download and Install Android SDK - http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Temp Root Your Phone with Fre3vo.
Open Screen cast with your computer and connect phone.
Make sure USB Debugging is Enabled in Settings on Phone (Hopefully you can do this or already had)
Now you should be able to control your phone from your computer and recover your data etc.
Good Luck!

Awesome, thanks for turning me on to this! I used to love being able to remote control my Pocket PC with the MS SDK back in 2001 and have been annoyed finding nothing like that for Android (or my iPhone before that)!

[Q] Persistent notification "importing books"

Two days ago, I got this notification, "Import Books. Please wait for a moment...." and it is still there till now. I thought it was about importing the books that I recently purchased through Nook, and I deleted all my Nook books, uninstalled the app. And after that, when I stopped the Reader service, the notification disappeared. However, once I restart my Flyer, the "Import books. Please wait for a moment...." comes and stays there forever. Any clue what's going on? Thanks.
I've got it to.

Try deleting cache and data?
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium
Are you guys using fastboot? Like the device boots up in 3 seconds?
If you are, Hold Power button and select reboot. It will clear caches, fixed my problems.
Even if you do a full restart, the notification keeps coming back. Rubbish. You can't even uninstall the app, as it's part of the HTC suite of pre-installed apps.
Anyone got any idea how to make it go away?
Check your library. Are you getting multiple copies of the books? It happened to me two days ago, but it stopped and loaded multiple copies of my books. Try going to the folder your books are installed in and deleting them right from there. See if that makes a difference.
Has anyone found a solution fo this problem yet? I have this issue, too...
hi all...had same problem...to fix it..well worked for me..i deleted just the cache and did a force close on app reader...and did a normal restart...to do this if you dont know..goto setting...applications....manager applications..pick all...find the Reader App....in the setting for Reader click clear Cache and then force close.....icon should be gone..then restart Flyer if you want...
Just clear the cache as everyone else has already said. Just cosigning. Oh yeah u might have to clear data as well if that doesn't work out but it should work after you clear the cache.

Pictures in Gallery

Does anyone know how to limit the pictures that are showing up in the gallery? I apparently had, at some time, used Picasso and those pictures are showing. I do not have Picasso on my phone nor am I syncing it. But the darn thing still shows up. I've even went so far as to reset my phone. I've also gone through every folder on the phone I can think of that they would be stored. No luck...
I've attached a picture of what I'm talking about.

You have google+ installed? I think that syncs picassa
After unchecking Picasso sync under your Google account, clear data for the gallery app. If that doesn't work maybe its download manager or something.

I had this same problem. What you have to do, is go to system settings>accounts & sync, then to whatever account you have picassa synced on (if you have more than one google account on your phone), then uncheck the sync picassa web albums settings. But there's one more step because those pictures will still be there. Next you go to app settings>gallery>clear data....and wala magic!!! No more annoying picassa pics that u cant delete!! No need to restart or anything, at least I didnt need to. Hope that helps.
Thank you to everyone. The step I needed to do was clear the data in the gallery app.
Mods, please close the thread.

Connecting to Computer?

Am I missing something, or should it be pretty straight forward using a USB cable to connect to a computer? My computer will read the phone in download mode (make the sound of plugging it in) but wont read when phone is on. Looking into status of the phone, it reads AC charging rather than USB charging. Is there a setting Im missing to change it or what?
I had to install Kies for my computer to recognize my phone

You can also go to Samsung's website, to the support section and find the downloads for the Note 3. You'll find USB drivers there as well. At least I did for my Note 2
Alright, tried kies, still nothing. Doesnt show the device connected. As for drivers, went to samsungs website and went to phone, under download shows no drivers.
EDIT: Figured it out. For some reason I was under the impression you couldnt use the supplied cable because of the 3.0 part. Used it any and computer found it immediately so now I'm up and running. Thanks guys.
Any luck transferring bookmarks? I successfully transferred all music and photos, I can't find the bookmarks file on my htc evo 3d. Tried my backup pro but am not ready to plunge into the root world. Appears as if backup imported bookmarks but I don't know why they're not appearing in browser bookmarks. Yes I checked "my files" app, don't know what they're titled or how to get access through browser. Any painfully obvious technique I'm missing. I'm sure many people are anxious for a answer. Thanks in advance!
I haven't had that issue, since I just restored all with titanium backup. If you still have your old phone, can you export your bookmarks to another browser, say dolphin and then back them up?

I thought that would work, but bookmarks to sd (a Dolphin browser plug in/extension) has been removed from Google play and side loading gives a prompt stating there is no tool (program) to open it with. The only app I've gotten to work so far is my backup pro. It only transferred bookmarks to the Chrome browser, but only a fraction of them. Do I need to root in order to use titanium? Thanks for your response!

Constantly Crashing

I have an issue that I cannot pinpoint the cause of figure out a solution to. Maybe someone here can help.
My Sprint G3 is always crashing and rebooting the launcher (phone doesn't turn off, just closes evwrything). I'd be in the middle of any app and it will randomly close every single app. The running apps page always displays after every crash. It's as if too much ram is being used, but it will happen even after a fresh phone restart and launching something simple like WhatsApp.
My phone is rooted via the Stump one click method. I don't have any type of rooted mods enabled, only Adfree. I use Nova launcher (paid & updated).
Is there some sort of event viewer that will log the activity of the phone so I probably someone here can see what might be causing the phone to crash? I'm tempted to Unroot and restore back to stock... But if I can avoid that, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Maybe it's Adfree then. There's a special version that some people are using. It's in it forum somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.
In the meantime, uninstall it and see if it goes away.

Thanks. I've reverted my adfree hosts file and uninstalled it. But I think the issue persists. If I try to use any app that clears cache, specifically Clean Master, when it's doing the scan of apps it'll crash midway through the scan. If I go to system settings > Apps & wait for all the downloaded apps to load the details, it'll crash there too.
This is the oddest thing.
Edit:
This visual may help. It's a video of me running Clean Master & seeing how it just crashes. I can replicate this issue every time like this, but the crashes are random when using other apps.

Ok, so I began uninstalling some apps that I thought may have been the issue... Which they weren't as the crashing still continues. I decided to reboot under safe mode and the problem occurs there too.
I honestly cannot recall if this began before or after rooting with stump. I may have to Unroot & factory restore. =/

I'm at a loss... The 2 things I mentioned can be the culprits, but not for you I guess. Some other ideas?
Did you uninstall Stump after getting root?
Have you froze or uninstalled any system apps/ priv-apps?
It might even be Nova is having issues.
That's all I got.

Tried to unroot but the phone doesn't move past the "Firmware Update. Do not unplug the phone..." screen after holding Volume Up & plugging into the computer. I installed the drivers before hand. But the "CDC Serial" doesn't update. I attempted to manually update the driver by browsing for the folder, but no go.
I may end up having to go to Sprint and exchange the phone for another one.

TL;DR version = Yes, I did fix it. Factory restore did the trick.
A few days after my last post the phone wasn't as bad as the video. It would still crash and reset but mainly after heavy app usage or when trying to clear app cache using any app like Clean Master.
Once my storage reached about 40% used and I couldn't clear the cache, I began to get constant Play Store error messages. No apps would update. I think it was error 483 or something close to hat number.
Since I couldn't flash back to stock because the drivers wouldn't install, I gave up and tried a factory reset. I nearly sh-t myself bc once I confirmed the restore, the phone didn't want to automatically reset per the instructions. I pressed the button multiple times and nothing. I pulled the battery and when I turned it back on, I got the initial screen with the "powered by android" and then black. It did not wanna do anything. Pulled battery again, same outcome. It left it for maybe 10min and still nothing.
I was ready to go back to sprint and see if I could exchange the phone. While researching the closest store, the phone beeped and the initial android setup screen appeared. This was about 25min of waiting on a black screen.
The phone is now back to working order and it's still rooted. There must have been a corrupt file that was erased/restored once the g3 decided to behave.

Congrats!
My G3 is crashing in the similar manner as the video you uploaded.
Except that it only happens when I'm in office connected to office wifi with almost no cellular reception.
On top of that, as far as I could tell... only two apps are causing the launcher to crash... the game Clash of Clans and LINE.
Very very strange....
