'IMEITracker' Process - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone else got this process running on the Galaxy S II. Just noticed it and its making me paranoid. Is it malware? I tried googling it but theres not much results coming up.
Thanks.

There's a link in my sig which lists what most things do.
It's part of samsung dive which includes lost or stolen phone tracking, remote wipe, etc.

Vlingo and CIW

Just found out that vlingo uses carrier iq. Time to dump that app.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
without proof what your saying is baseless btw bud.
first I doubt they use it to begin with as vlingo is not a carrier itself so they wouldn't have need for the stuff carrier iq does.
The only thing I can think of is your confusing "data collection" with carrieriq.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/26/vlingo-explains-data-collection/
If you read the article there they explain everything pretty well....nothing to worry about bud.
Actually, they came clean about it. They were sending a lot of data including imei, phone number and contact lists via unsecured means every four hours. Regarding fact, its right from their press agent. I'm simply passing along data from them, to protect our forum users. But good try on the fact comment. I think what you were looking to say is thank you.

There is a reason good people are leaving xda. Comments like yours (albeit not terribly rude) makes people to not want to post. They fussed up and promised a fix, plus new terms explaining what and why they are capturing gps, imei, contact info plus other info via unsecured means. They were supposed to capture much less and not every few hours.
It's time for ULAs to be scaled way down and explain in layman's terms what they are doing.
Regards, be careful if you use it until a fix is in place.

That is the exact article I linked in my post bud. If you read it it says 0 about CarrierIQ. Hence my original comment.
They explain the use of it and it all makes perfect sense also.

Virus

My phone has been bugging out way too much, and i want to get a virus program. Which one is the best?
Its pointless from what I understand. There's no real "viruses" for android. Its just a battery killer. But if you insist, avg has a version.

If it's "bugging out" - have you confirmed it's malware?
95%+ chance it's not - Android malware is extremely rare (especially since Droid Dream variants were pulled from the Market). If you are not an idiot and don't install random stuff from the Market without researching it, you'll be fine. Installing any sort of an antivirus will just make things worse.
This isn't Windows where they're hacking a new security model on top of a fundamentally broken base - Android has a fairly comprehensive security architecture that usually works. (Right now there are no privilege escalation exploits for 2.3.6 and above to my knowledge, and even when zergRush worked, I don't know of any malware that adopted the same exploit.)

Okay maybe you should buy the apps? Instead of "borrow" them and since you download cracked apps you shouldn't post here about you're problems? Just saying.

What he said, and I will add, developers should be compensated for the work they do, buy the app. Don't steal from them, its not like they're expensive.

1. Buy the apps
2. Dont load cracked apps <--- This is why you had a problem to begin with
3. Dont talk about having or downloading cracked apps... because its warez and you dont even want to skate around that park.

[Q] Multiupload website links

It appears that the Multiupload website has been taken down/is no longer working. Most of the links to firmware etc on the XDA website are multiupload links.
I have tried to access many of them and have failed. I want to know if anyone else has had a problem with the multiupload website to confirm this.
If it is confirmed, is there a way we can have everyone use a new mirror for their downloads, or are there already new links out? I needed some firmware for my phone [it needs to be recovered badly] and can't access anything.
Any news would be great
Been like that for some time now. Weeks.
Check each thread to find out what the particular poster is doing about their links.
Or ask FBI for access to the original files.

Yeah, look I thought it might have been going on for a while - hadn't checked into XDA for some time now; was just wondering if there was anything being done site-wide. Will check the threads and see what's going on. Cheers mate.
Would be awesome for xda to have a download server setup.
Hope someone from xda seizes the opportunity.

We'll end up paying for it if this ever happened. Which I don't have a problem with, tho I'm sure plenty of people would *****/moan about same. Bandwidth doesn't grow on trees.

[Q] Developing Android ROM's

OK, so I want to begin developing Android ROM's. I have the necessary technical knowledge and I have access to Ubuntu 64-bit with more than 100gb of Free disk space.
Where do I start?
How do I edit Android, I.e - theme it, change text etc.
Thanks.

Xda university? Ive been wandering this forum for 3 years and this is the 1st time ive ever seen anyone mention this...
Is his defense, the search feature in either the app or website both kinda suck.
Not very intuitive at all...its easier to Google it then click back to the xda link than to try an find it here....just sayin.

Yes I have been using this for years too and never attempt searching on the site or app. Google will help my the site brings up non related content. Also first on xda university. I need to enroll. Where does the line start and how much is tuition? Guess I will have to Google it and see what it is all about.

Kinda guessed that the reply would be "Use the search". I haven't yet seen a guide that shows screenshots of what the code actually does. I.e: before a code change the ui looks like this [Insert screenshot here] and after the code change a Ui looks like this [Insert screenshot here].
I've seen developers create features for their ROMs, like quick settings in notifications and stuff like that. Building the ROM is one thing but adding features is another. I wish their was a complete guide out their.
A lot of xda threads are becoming more like court cases nowadays. I see people with feature requests and then the developer just rudely says "Thanks for Sharing!" And takes no notice as if what someone said was pointless.

That would probably be because it has been asked a few million times (yes, it's an exaggeration but I think you get my point).
A lot of people will be very helpful if you come in here and show that you tried to figure out something on your own. I've read all of this or searched Google and the site and haven't found the info. However, when you come here and ask a question that has been posed over and over again you can start to get a bit of an attitude. It's generally because you have shown no initiative to look or get the info yourself.
Would the guide you want be helpful? Sure would. It's not though so one has to a lot of digging to get the info. That is one of the ways you learn how to do things here at XDA. Then, after learning one can go out and write the guide that is missing.
Here is something for you. A thread explaining how to use Google to search XDA specifically. It's located in a specific device forum but is good for everything (and no, I have never owned a Hermes. I found it by searching ).

[POLL]ROM wiki

Is anyone interested in a ROM wiki of some sort with ROM Li ks to op and I an on uploading all ROM to my ftp and keeping them all up to date here if this is not something everyone wants let me know just thought maybe it would be nice to see everything organized with ways working Links as well. Unless my host goes down which in 3 years only once and was only a hour or so... Let me know

I can't speak for the dwvelopers, but a sticky with all the info organized would be a great start. It would be very helpful to newbs, and vets alike.

Someone does this already, can't find his thread right now of course lol.
Please do not host other people's ROMs unless asked to by them. Some devs make money from adds when people go to download the ROMs and you would be taking away the little bit of income that they do get.
Wasn't going to post mirrors to devs this was a starting out point obviously if I was to proceed I would ask for permission or post there Li ks alternatively the ks for the heads up but this isn't my first rodeo

In that case...
If you are just going to keep up to date links, and organize them..... good luck
With the amount of dev work we have seen recently it will be a full time job.
If you do it, it would probably be one of the most used thread here.
I would.

cool sounds like a weekend project for next weekend ... i do supply some mirrors for a few developers so i have afew uploaded but i don't plan on brodcasting links unless dev will support it i however would like to see what you guys would like from such as thread just orginized into aosp tw kernels radio and then do you think a breakdown of the developement or maybe just a link to the thread? asking for a few opionions on what you guys would like to see i should be able to get to it monday just got home from a moto cross event and am pretty pooped
That would be amazing, coming from a noob I hear everyone's opinions on which Rom is best but seeing a list to compare would help before I dive in.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
