[Q] Device doesn't have an IP? - Motorola Photon 4G

when i enter ##DATA# on my Photon and click on Data Profile, down towards the bottom there is "Device IP: 0.0.0.0"
any idea's what this is about? could it be related to my terrible 3G speeds? i'm sitting with full service and only pulling about 70kb/s down / 100kb/s up.
it's kind of depressing :-/

I think its normal to have a device IP of 0.0.0.0. That's what mine has and my speeds aren't slow.

Device automatically should find ip, no need to enter anything there.

Evo 3D and pptp vpn?

Hi all, anyone get this to work successfully? I had no problem connecting to vpn on my Evo 4G using 3g, but the Evo 3D keeps failing to connect through 3g, all the settings are the same. It comes back with a message: "Server hung up. It is possible that you are behind a firewall that prevents you from connecting to the server. Do you want to try again?". Well, I'm not behind a firewall, and as I said before, all settings are the same. Connecting to a vpn through Wifi works fine.

I'm guessing if this is true for everyone, then it'll be fixed in an update. This was the case with the Samsung Galaxy Tab too, and they fixed it after a couple of months.

I can connect using a different wifi spot or over 4G, but not on 3G, something about a firewall. Using dd-wrt on a router to set-up the connection from a EVO 3D
same here no go on 3g wifi is working fine
Same here.
I tried VPN in phone as well as several tethered methods.
4G Worked fine as well as Touch Pro 2.
I tried setting Proxies to 0 as well (The hack for better 3G performace)
And still no go.
What if you erase those proxies that people remove to supposedly get better data speeds?
They are proxies, after all, and i had to remove them from my non-phone-geek buddy's Evo Shift just so the Sirius app would stream.

What do you think I said in the prior post. That doesn't work either.
EVO 4G works with the same Proxies set Normal or Blanked out.
Also tried encrypted and not.
I also factory reset the phone, because there was a thread that said it ran better, so I figured what the heck.
One other TidBit I noticed today.
It works on 4G !!
It's as if something times out on 3G.

Interesting... too bad for me, the Detroit Metro Area still does not have 4G.
Same issue here. VPN connects easily on the very spotty 4G service here in So Cali and works great on WiFi but nothing with 3G. Very frustrating. Had an Epic up until Wednesday and never had any issue like this on that phone. Sad face
is there any fix on this ?

Not as of yet, that I know of. I also have this same issue on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Android 3.1, but it won't work on 4G/LTE, just on wifi.

It is extremely odd that it just doesn't work on 3G... I wonder what tree we need to bark up to get a resolution. To this? What we need are paying Wifi tether users to complain about it. Paying monthly and not even able to use the phone to connect to their VPN connection..
It has to be something simple too, 1 setting somewhere that is causing the blockage.
Sound like your data provider is blocking vpn on 3G.
I have a simular issue with AT&T and my APN settings. Removing the proxy server in the APN allows for VPN otherwise it doesn't work.

No, that's not it. It's device specific. Thanks for the input though.

I don't have any problem in both 3G and Wi-Fi mode however
I hope someone figures this out. Very frustrating.

Lost WiFi at home

I have recently lost my signal from my WiFi at home but my phone still picks up the WiFi signals from the neighbors. I exchanged my first 3d for a new one but I still have the same problem. My ipod still picks up and uses the WiFi signal and was wondering if anybody knew why this maybe happening.
Thanks,
Josh Talltree

Try resetting your router. Or try updating the firmware of the router. Also try forgetting the network in wifi settings and then try logging back in. Or do a factory wipe.
Locked & Loaded
just turn wifi on and off, no biggie, works pretty well.
Check out WiFi Fixer in the app market. Solved all of my problems.
Whoa, before you do all that other stuff.
So your ipod works with your router? And your phone connects to your neighbor's router? If so then most likely your router isn't a problem, nor is your phone.
Android's wifi stack does a really good job of automagically connecting to the best available wifi spot. Do you see your wifi router in the Wifi settings? If so, long press and connect to it. If you have authentication set, then it will prompt you for a password.
Let's start with that then go with more, if needed, and will probably need more information that you provide.
My phone doesn't even see my WiFi connection, it can see all the other connections only... I've traded my phone in not only for this problem but other problems and this problem still looms. I'm thinking its in my settings that were transferred from my other phone? I don't know, help please...

Man its might be your router. Have ya even tried just resetting the router back to factory defaults??? Its a tiny pin size hole on the back of your router "or at least it.should be" Henceforth, find a needle or safety pin and press the that button for like 10 or 15 seconds and wailt 2 to 4 min. After that go to your wifi settings on your phone and click on your network name and chose forget. Now look for your new network name and which should be an open and unsecured network. It should have the manufacturing abbreviation in the network name so if its say a belkin it might be -belkin123 unsecured- also it should be open because when you reset the router it erases all of the security. Also routers firmware should always be upgrade. Not saying this will solve your issue but it might and its a really quick way to rule out if its your router.
Locked & Loaded
Some of the "perm-temp" root scripts caused this, if you used some of the older ones, you may be experiencing this.
The solution to it was to "forget" all your wifi connections on the phone, power it off/battery pull, then reconnect.
Of course, if this doesn't fit your scenario, disregard.

Anyone try to revert their net proxies and see what happens?

About a day ago I got a PRL update to 21081 and decided to go back to the original proxy settings because my internet speeds and signal were still really slow. My speeds are back up to about where they belong I think.
Yall should try it and see what happens. I know I'm very happy with it. Far more than I was with the proxies out.
Sent from my HTC 3VO using XDA App
Seriously. I had such connection and signal strength issues when I took out the proxy info, but when I put it back in, it bumped the speeds back to where they should've been in the first place. I recommend at least trying it.

What did you put into your proxy I messed up I didn't save the original settings like I should have
Default settings are:
RTSP proxy IP = rtsp.vog.sprintpcs.com
RTSP proxy port = 554
HTTP proxy IP = pd.vog.sprintpcs.com
HTTP proxy port = 8085
mine suck with or without the proxies, though I've noticed that it's impossible to stream a Chicago radio station I like if the proxies are programmed
as with everything, different people get different results

The same type of thing happens to me with YouTube. Works great without the proxy
boom!! from my shooter
The main reason so take off the proxies is to be able to stream certain things off of the network.

help with wireless ip address

I was wondering if there is a way to change the ip address on your phone? like when i use wireless tether can i change my ip some way?
help plz
Try taking out the battery of the phone nd leave it off for a couple of minutes, this may or may not work because there is a high chance that our phones have a dhcp lease which makes us keep the same IP address for some time.
Now you got to understand that if you want to fool around with the wireless provider IP you might get burned quick, you don't know their network structure nor subjects and dhcp policy; but it also begs my question: why would you want to do this???
Also, if your rooted and have busy box check for the ifconfig command.

Not sure about 4g, but all you have to do on 3g is toggle it off/on. You can't choose the IP, but it will be different.

Wifi priority over other devices?

Anyone know of an app that will boost my wifi speed at work over others?
Server speed is good just so many other devices and pcs it makes mine very slow. Its very frustrating
Thanks in advance
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
you can configure this on your wifi router. if your wifi ap is basic one it might not have this settings. but most routers come with option to set high priority, qos etc.
Im at work tho mate.. im sure this can be done with just my phone

Cannot see how a receiver can receive priority over others without it being set at source .
jje
The whole point of Traffic shaping would be lost if any device can set itself to a higher priority.
Some packets can set an URG-flag which stands for least-latency routing instead of least-cost routing however it's still the router's call if he respects this and if yes how he treats them.
Something else is probably incorrectly configured. It's been reported several times that the S3 is very picky when several Wifi AP's with the same name (SSID) and in reach of each other are configured on the same channel (frequency). However most hobby-admins even know not to do that, so if your company is doing it you might suggest basic network training for your IT guys. (The basics of the Wifi protocol are in roughly the 3. semester at university)
You might want to try whether forcing the device to 5Ghz band will make it better since that band is far less crowded.
Also you could check WHAT causes the issues. Often it's not the bandwith by itself but either the router's connection table (a VPN to an external server is a very good but cumbersome solution) or the DHCP (use OpenDNS or Google DNS)

Because, according to your latest signature, you're on ParanoidAndroid which is not Sammy-based.
This information was lacking in your prior post.
Im using omega.. is this only possible on samsung based roms? Would it make much difference in me doing it? Id be happy to flash a sammy rom if it can get me a better connection at work. It takes around 10 mins just to post on here when im at work. And thats only after turning wifi off and on. I get good signal at work, and the speed tests are good. Hmmm
