i rooted this last night with z4root and did a nandroid backup and then flashed the mik_os compile of CM7, everything has gone fine, but i have decided to try the official firmware to see how it is.
if i nandroid back to the original LG firmware (which was 2.2 based) and then update to the latest release, is it still possible after that to go back to CM7 again if i find i don't like the official gingerbread update? ie. is it possible to root the latest gingerbread update?
i am doing this partly to get the latest radio version but also just to see how good the lg version is compared to aosp/CM

You cannot root the 2.3.3 update from LG, afaik. You've to downgrade it to froyo to root it again.

Ignore the previous reply. If you flash the official unbranded Euro version v20e using KDZ, superoneclick works just fine.

Didn't know that. The sticky thread is not updated with this info I guess. Thanks for letting me know.
ok just to be sure, is the official euro unbranded version this one?? -> http://www.multiupload.com/Q1OOK81QDJ
also this contains the latest radio version, correct?

Yes, that's the euro version and the new baseband will be flashed automatically.
If you want to go back to CM7 you will have to flash the old baseband via LGMDP or a froyo rom via KDZ.

will have to keep looking.

There is a rom search & download tool on this forum wich will help you download the correct .kdz file; you have to search the thread which contains it.

tried already, that is how i found the 7z unpacked version. the official LG website link is saying 'Forbidden'
ie. this one -> http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/LGP500/ANEUBK/V20e_00/V20E_00.kdz
people have reported the unpacked version working, but i was a bit hesistant as its not how i have done different LG phones, i have normally used the .kdz
if anyone has the v20e .kdz could they mirror it somewhere, would be appreciated by a lot of ppl i think..
ok got v20e flashed finally, now only problem is rooting it, tried superoneclick but getting
Code:
Remounting /system with read-write access...
mount: Operation not permitted
FAILED
also trying gingerbreak, not much luck there either... am i doing something wrong?

did you actually get this to work? how?? so many ppl have reported the mount error that it no longer seems like coincidence??
rooted finally -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15454927&postcount=7
Glad you got it sorted.
I just followed the same instructions you did, and never had any mount errors on either of the two phones I've rooted.

hi all!
ihave a new p500 device with stock rom v10g.
and i want to flash oficial v20c.
but i have no windows pc around, so i cant use kdz flasher or oficial lg updater. i have only linux station with adb installed.
will i able to do update v10g -> v20c with custom recovery (cwm or any other)?
I haven't heard of any way to do the official update without a Windows PC. Would love to hear otherwise, but at this point, there is no way to update the phone's baseband in a cross-platform way.

Try to install Virtualbox with usb extention, then under virtualbox install winxp.
I wouldn't recommend you to do so.
Updating your baseband and grabbing Gingerbread is not so good, you see, there's plenty of bugs in the Official Gingerbread rom.
If you are very interested in update your phone, then find a win7 computer...
I have Windows 7 in VirtualBox and tried to flash from it. But virtuall environment does not detect phone when it is in emergency mode. So it can't be flashed in this way.

Yes. Check out CM7 and void forever. Although these have certain bugs as mentioned on the first page, but they are great gb roms.

Well... You can flash and try a pretty much useless Gingerbread from CM7 and stuff, which uses v10 baseband (as Froyo)
If you want a really good full usable and bugless Gingerbread, in short answer, that doesn't exist yet.
Changing the baseband is just a mere procedure, but, sticking with Froyo is the best thing you can do, IF you want to have a full working phone.
I flashed to 2.3.4 and I am using N_01.77.15P. My network type shows as HSPA. Is there a newer radio? My speeds are not what they used to be
N_01.77.30P is the radio that the official OTA has. Grab it here

you have to flash that in rsd this should work though http://bandbinnovations.com/xda/alien/radio.zip use the newest cwm
I updated via the leaked version and unlocked the bootloader there have been warning about using RSD after you have done so. (also the http://bandbinnovations.com/xda/alien/radio.zip did not work either)

I also tried to search the .sbf format for official radio baseband 1.77.30P. Few links (http://briefmobile.com/download-android-2-3-4-gingerbread-for-motorola-atrix-4g#radio
http://bandbinnovations.com/xda/gingerbread/4591radio.sbf
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23800522/radio_N_01.77.30P.sbf) which I got here are either not working for me or after flashing it gives only 1.77.15P. Please provide me someone a working link for .30P, I need the .sbf format so that I can use it with rsdlite.
Thanks in advance.

To flash an official ROM through KDZ, you need not have root access.
And stop asking the same question over and over again.... Please....
I startet the update one min ago, rebooted and cwm then canceld it saying that the signature was incorrect so it abortet the update..
what to do now ?
What update by what method what file .
Strange to update via CWM .
jje
Did u flash the cwm and what file are u trying to flash(zip, tar, rom or kernel)
I did not do anything via cwm...
I went down to my phone and checked if theres and update avaliable,
it found one and downloaded it and rebooted in order to install it and after the phone was off it opened the packet and startet installing and all of a sudden i landed in cwm saying the packets signature was invalid...
thats what happened
OTA does not work with CWM. There are work-arounds but it's recommended to stay with Kies or Odin to flash new versions.

lol thats a minus for cwm imo... meh... does anybody have a link to a thread providing the latest release ?
whisch one is it btw ? 4.1 jelly bean ?
Here are most of the available firmwares:

Jellybean isn't out for a couple of months, so it's a bugfix/enhancement release of ICS.

CWM is not designed for Samsung but for Android phones in general. So it cannot support all of the quirks and specialitys of all devices.
Latest CWM and root from dev section is supposed to allow updates OTA.but of course you need to reroot .
Simpler to join XDA and flash stock roms rather than try to mix and match .

I don't think it is, custom roms don't touch modem etc
I'd like to know this too.
Recently, I lost my modem when I was playing around with my phone on CM. So I restored stock (latest version from here, and I additionally got an OTA after this about the hotfix again, IDK why, but I installed that too!) and saved the modem using Partitions Backup & Restore. Here are the img files, you may use them to restore using that very app (ROOT required).
The device is the E1003 OPX (Asia version, bought from Amazon India), and the Baseband version as stated in Settings -> About Phone is .4.0.1.c7-00013-M8974AAAAANAZM-1
