CWM cancels firmware update - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I startet the update one min ago, rebooted and cwm then canceld it saying that the signature was incorrect so it abortet the update..
what to do now ?

What update by what method what file .
Strange to update via CWM .
jje

Did u flash the cwm and what file are u trying to flash(zip, tar, rom or kernel)

I did not do anything via cwm...
I went down to my phone and checked if theres and update avaliable,
it found one and downloaded it and rebooted in order to install it and after the phone was off it opened the packet and startet installing and all of a sudden i landed in cwm saying the packets signature was invalid...
thats what happened

OTA does not work with CWM. There are work-arounds but it's recommended to stay with Kies or Odin to flash new versions.

lol thats a minus for cwm imo... meh... does anybody have a link to a thread providing the latest release ?
whisch one is it btw ? 4.1 jelly bean ?

Here are most of the available firmwares:
http://www.samfirmware.com/
Jellybean isn't out for a couple of months, so it's a bugfix/enhancement release of ICS.

CWM is not designed for Samsung but for Android phones in general. So it cannot support all of the quirks and specialitys of all devices.

Latest CWM and root from dev section is supposed to allow updates OTA.but of course you need to reroot .
Simpler to join XDA and flash stock roms rather than try to mix and match .

Yeah, wait for full(rom) update. lfb is latest firmware.lg1 is the the same rom just different modem

I don't know what you mean by 'patch'. If you mean ROM version, then yes... flash the one you like. OTA partial updates are not available.

Samfirmware is Odin-only since they are full-Stock firmwares.

Software update

I have just received a notification to update software. I downloaded the update & phone booted into recovery but failed to install update.
Could that be because I have rooted the device ? what is the solution for this ?
Because of the root you can't update normally. I'm not sure if you can take the update what your phone downloaded and flash it yourself.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
An option is to choose a custom ROM and follow its updates as they will most likely include important updates in their future versions.
You can only update with kies as your rooted, root will removed after update so you will have to re install.

The only thing stopping you installing these updates is the custom recovery, not root itself. You could use mobile ODIN to flash a stock recovery from a stock rom, and then you can get official updates.
Or like many on here, just wait for word on a new update, download it from Sam Mobile and use ODIN (or mobile ODIN) to flash

I was rooted with Chainfire. All I wanted was OTA updates.
Very simply update your phone with the latest chainfire root - 6.4 i believe (just install over the existing chainfire if this is how you're rooted). Install the OTA's. Reflash again with 6.4 and you'll have your up to date OTA's and rooted. All took 10 minutes

I am rooted with CF v6.1 & whenever phone reboots to recovery to install updates it fails. Why would it work with v6.4 ?!
is there a way I can download the updates only on the PC & flash them with oden ? on sammobile, they have the updates integrated in a ROM.

sorry i am a noob
but i can get any original firmware or according to my region ?
i logged in to sam mobile and i found many firmwares choose any one of the ?
thanks for the reply
sam mobile should have the original firmware for your region. the latest and the older ones I believe. Any original and official firmware, even older ones should work fine. You could always update back to the latest official one using kies once your phone works again.
Alternatively you can check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 for your region specific firmware. Just follow the intstruction of flashing with odin and it should be fine.

Thanks mate
do i have to download the kernel ?/
The entire firmware info package you can download from the XDA thread has the kernel already. The Stock kernel download is just to reflash the kernel in say errors with kernels or if you flashed a CF-root kernel and want it back to original. Follow the instructions in the opening post regarding to flashing with Odin completely.

Awsome As long as you read the threads carefully over here on XDA regarding flashing roms and kernels and stuff you will do fine Just follow the instructions

My SGS3 is rooted. I just recieved an OTA update. But...!

The device will reboot to recovery mode (CWM) and do nothing.
I'm guessing the CWM is the problem here.
Is there any safe solution for this? I don't want to wipe or backup or anything if possible.
Is there a way to just reverse the root?

For christ`s sake choose, if you want root forget about Samsung or stick with Samsung and forget about XDA. You can`t have it both ways :silly:

If you are rooted and you want to keep root delete FotaClient.apk and FWUpgrade.apk.in system/apps, you will not be bothered then with OTA`s.. For upgrades go to www.sammobile.com/firmware and flash the rom you downloaded with Odin v3 3.0.4.and reroot afterwards or flash with Mobile Odin Pro and keep root. See item 2 and 3 of my signature. Cheers mate from my high horse

You cannot find the upgrade option in Kies ?????
Reinstall Kies may help .
OR their is no upgrade offered by Kies ????
or Kies says no upgrade for this phone .

OTA update works with ClockworkMod Touch Recovery v6.0.1.4 (http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager)
It will fail signature validation and then give you an option to install anyway...

Well, you obviously can't flash a stock FOTA with CWM, you need a stock recovery (Don't know why) and then you can flash FOTAs..
Try flashing firmware using Kies, or downloading it from http://sammobile.com/firmware and flash it with Odin. Both will work

OTA update usually fails to install .
Kies may update if it sees correct codes but as you are modify phone it may not .
You would be beter reading the faqs and guides first .

no, you'll have to decrease the binary counter with Triangle Away (requires root), then you can flash a stock ROM with Odin.
please, before you do anything stupid, read a TUTORIAL, because everything i'm saing is extremely superficial!
Why would you root then throw away all the benefits of being rooted by installing official updates?

I wasn't answering that question. You asked another question which pointed to a lack of knowledge on your part. Lack of knowledge is dangerous so I helped you out. Rather than responding with multiple ??? (Which is rude btw) you could have simply pressed "thanks".
Root is part of a ROM. Recovery flashes ROM. Root has nothing to do with the ability to flash ROMs.
OP has posted today in yet another thread .
