See this thread, especially, changelog item #8 on the first post. Install the latest version of CM7.1RC from that thread for your bootloader version (either 1.1 or 1.2).

My Galaxy S2 has been rooted for about 2 months now and has been running on the Lightening ROM no problem, but last night when i tried to install a new ROM through CWM it wouldn't let me. I tried to install Villianrom and Cyanogen mod and both failed. Both ROM s were shown on my SD card as zip files and when i tried to move them they failed to get a signature and now when i boot into CWM neither of the ROM s show anywhere it just says NO FILES FOUND. Luckily i had a titanium backup of my Lightening ROM that i could revert to but i am puzzled as to why these ROM s wont install.
Any help would be appreciated
You are not supposed to extract them. They are supposed to be left as "zip" files.
They are getting left as zip files. All i do is download the RAR file and drag it onto sd card and there is nothing showing on the sd card i done all the necessary wipes and then when i try to select a rom off sd card this is what i get:
Android/ Attachments/ DCIM/ Download/ GOLauncherEX/ Galaxy_S_Unlock/ GoStore/ LOST.DIR/ ScreenCapture/ ShareViaWifi/ Sounds/ TitaniumBackup/ Wallpapers/ WhatsApp/ bluetooth/ burstlyImageCache/ clockworkmod/ data/ external_sd/ media/ openfeint/ samsungapps/ usbstorage/ zedge/ update.zip
But never a ROM to select from!!

is it zip or rar?

Its says that it is a WIN RAR ZIP archive. Villianrom 2.4.2 from the villian website. At first you could see the file but it failed to get a signature and when i booted out and back in to CWM there was nothing and i can no longer see any files.
(I am using linux on my pc not windows.)

What is the exact error of the "fail to get signature"? You said that you see "update.zip", is that the rom? Also, have you tried a new sd card?

Really sorry but not sure of the exact error message that came up it was late last night and its not coming up with that now. I have tried a new sd card didnt make any difference. I tried the Update.zip and all i get is (replacing stock recovery with clockwork mod recovery) and then its stuck at the screen loading bar doesnt move at all.
I have even tried it with ROM manager and left it sitting for over an hour and still didnt do anything

That means the update.zip file is ClockworkMod Recovery. Have you tried downloading the roms via Rom Manager then trying to flash them?

I have just this minute flashed it back to stock and i am about to root it again and try to install villianrom. If it doesnt work this time i am just going to leave it stock. Will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again
Hi just to let you know phone is now rooted and has villianrom installed without a glitch. Dont know what the problem was but seems to have fixed itself now.
Thanks
I also had this issue early when I got my sgs2. Here is how I fixed it. I used the "unbrick" method, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432
So flash the package in pda that contains stock kernel and rooted rom or stock rom doesn't matter, then flash the code works kernel that contains cwm again, then you can boot into cwm and flash roms again. Not sure what the root of the issue was, I just know that this fixed my problem. Make sure that if you are flashing via cwm your are installing a .zip and not a .tar or other extension as the .tar are for odin. Let me know if this doesn't fix your problem I'll be happy to help dig a little deeper although I would bet that this will fix it
Edit: looks like you got it working while I was writing this

Hi just a quick question. When i install new firmware should i have to back out and reboot system once install complete or should the phone do it by itself??
Hello all.
I have a few questions about the Wanalite ROM that I would be grateful if someone could answer.
1) On his site it says to get MTP back you need to flash a patch which you can download. How do you flash this patch? Is it just a case of putting the zip file on my phone then installing it from the SD card using CWM?
2) He also says that he has disabled the voice talk option when you double tap the home button for faster home load. He says to re-enable it you can push a stock “android.policy.jar” from my stock deodexed rom to “/system/framework”. What does this mean? How do I do this?
Thanks

Possible as that is the usual way to flash if not its Odin flash .

Copy android policy jar from stock deodexed rom .
Put on phones sd card .
Using root explorer copy that file to system framework .

I am running 10.1 RC3 and saw the update for the final release build...it uses CM updater, then the file is nowhere to be found...do I have to install RC5 before upadting the final build? Any help would be appreciated...
The first click downloads it within CM Updater. I think it normally prompts you asking if you want to install, but if you missed that try just clicking it again..?
You probably have to use your recovery program to flash it yourself. The file will download somewhere on your device so use your file manager to move it to a place where your recovery program can read.

no any answer after long time???????????
Please be more precise on the file you downloaded, and link.
Then describe what you have done.
Have you unpacked? With which program? Copied files to which sd card? Formatted how? Into which folder?
How did you install?
For those who are interested and are on stock non-rooted and didn't receive the (german) update by now, here is the logcat link i took :
( i was already on B04(bootstack/system (Australia)) but couldn't help to go back to B02 to have the link and share it - of course back on B04 :cyclops: )
( http://dl1.ztems.com:80/zxmdmp/down...es/HK/ZTE/ZTE A2017G/406489/fota_B04_B06MR.up )
or here the same uploaded zip file with a "little" bit faster download speed
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634768949
Rename to .zip (or try the .up file) ( you may even rename it to update.zip ...)
you don't have to upzip it
Put into root SD (external) or try internal storage
...and update via settings ( when on B02)
ps : when your phone won't detect the zip, you could try to wipe cache in stock recovery and reboot again and try to update again into settings menu
or update in stock recovery either via ADB sideload or update from SD
Enjoy !
Thanks Bro was looking for this.
So I'm able to flash the fota updates via system recovery, but is there any reason why the system updater isn't detecting the files on SD card/not receiving the B04 prompt? ?

Unpack the zip-file, but it in the root of your phone or in the root of external sd card.

Just to be clear, you're suggesting to rename the .up file to .zip, then unpack said .zip file to root directory? ?

Just rename. You don't have to unzip anything.
Although I did the update with the UP file once in adb sideload (in stock recovery) when I was on B01.
This is for non rooted users. It's just the clean, German original update from ZTE. Just for those who didn't get it by now.

Yes you can, either adb sideload or via update sd, all in stock recovery.
Or via the normal way when your phone detects the SD update. I have no idea why your phone doesn't detect the OTA on your SD by the normal way via settings. It should but this thing happens often.

ooops, sorry my bad...didn't read the whole thread...thought you had the whole zip...I had similar problem with the .up file so the easiest way to do the update was downloading the whole firmware zip...

You mean the " australian " one. AFAIK there isn't already posted a german region whole firmware zip. (could be wrong)
Although i believe there won't be much difference in the end result

Sorry for the noob question ..I am on v1.0 B11..can I upgrade straight to this firmware or do I need to upgrade step by step ?

You can upgrade straight using the Australian full V1.2.0B04 ROM. It's 2GB++ file size. Extract the update.zip and put into the root directory of your internal storage or SD card. Then open the system update and it should detect the new firmware.
My phone doesn't detect the update from internal neither from SD. I tried both files, and cleared cache. Says my firmware is up to date, I'll wait till it pops up officially for my region

Try in recovery. Either via SD or via adb sideload update.zip (put zip in adb folder PC)
(Also try all these steps with .UP instead of .ZIP)
Or flash the whole Australian zip bootstack + system. I'm running on that one. Or flash the original full Australian zip.
Possibilities enough
I know...the A7 can be stubborn :silly:
