Help!!
i been surfing the internet trying to find a way of how i can root my device. so far ive had on luck. i have tried gingerbreak but i don't think this has even worked. does anyone have any ideas of how you could root this particular device. if you have any suggestions or know how you can, i would be very grateful.
HOWTO - root PMP5080B
There is a way to root the tablet.
But it it does not root the runnning version, it roots the update image.
So if don't have the most actual firmware try this:
(maybe you can flash the firmware even it is not newer, but i don't know how)
Todo (Windows PC necessary):
At first load the latest firmware and unzip it:
h t t p : / / w w w .prestigio.com/info/product/downloads?NODE_ID=61101103718510974&ITEM=110706112617507776
Download the Wendal tool:
h t t p s :/ / docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B8h...RjZjFmODdiZTQ1
Then follow this steps:
1. Unzip the Wendal tool, you get a folder named "RK29xxImagetools_v2.1".
2. copy the update.img from Prestigio firmware download in the "RK29xxImagetools_v2.1" folder and rename the file to "wendal.img"
3. start "Runme.bat"
4. press "1", you get the message that you have to rename your file. Since you have already done this before proceed. The batch file starts, make sure you dont see any errors.
5. press "2" followed by "Enter". The rootet image will be created automatically
6. end the programm with "3"
7. in the "RK29xxImagetools_v2.1" you will find a file named "wendal-new.img", copy it to your SD card and rename it to "update.img".
8. put your SD card in your tablet, you will get a message to update your firmware
9. the tablet reboots, flashes the new firmware
10. be happy with your root access
Still having problems.
i have done what you said for me to do but when i rename the firmware to "wendal.img" and run it for some reason it keeps saying i haven't put the firmware in the folder when i have. do you know what how you can sort this out.
cheers
Did you unzip the firmware download?
Tried, tested & confirmed working
Just like to note that the software used will give you a warning about placing the update.img in the correct folder and renaming it even when it has already been done. You just have to press enter!
I have 5080B and i want to root it, but on ICS stock rom. Problem is, i cannot use wendal tools cause it can't add su and superuser.apk into /system ("no such directory") and even earlier i used to root gingerbread with these tools it is half-root - /system not rw, but superuser works
i saw update 2.0.2 from prestigio, pre-rooted, but i want to root this, newest version, 2.0.3
i have linux setup running and i tried mounting system.img but i can only add su, and nothing else cause there's no space...
also, how do i boot recovery from the device itself? i tried vol- and power key but there is an image of an 'destroyed' Android bot, no options there at all
Same problem - want root on Prestigio PMP 5080B
Just got a Prestigio PMP5080B running ICS 4 and want to root the tablet. I read from the preceding message that thhe method discussed here doesn't seem to work with it. Any ideas would be most welcomed here too.
By the way Hi!

If I can't find the stock recovery image itself, I can get you a link for the complete stock 5.1.1 firmware package for the Huawei Union (Y538,). The recovery can perhaps be extracted from the package.

That would be great. I've only been able to find the one provided by leakite.com, which seems to have been taken down.

OK good news. I didn't find another copy of recovery.img, but I did find the complete firmware package. Uploading it to Google Drive now. I'll post a short tutorial on flashing the firmware in a separate thread, which I will post the link here.

Getting my guide written for flashing the firmware. Files are uploaded
Here is the stock 5.1.1 firmware package for the y538. Been tied up so I haven't had a chance to complete my tutorial thread yet.
Android 5.1.1 EMUI v3.1
Virgin Mobile/Boost Mobile
Build: Y538C237B150
Patch Level: 12/01/2015
SDK: 22
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7-zQU1VihD3ZVBSVVJIYnRBOW8/view?usp=drivesdk
Here is a step-by-step:
1. On an external micro SD card, create a folder called "dload" and save the folder to the root directory of the card (ensure you have a minimum of 2GB free space);
2. Download the firmware package from the link. Extract the zip file and find a file called UPDATE.APP;
3. Move UPDATE.APP to the dload folder of your micro SD;
4. Insert the micro SD in your Y538 and ensure your battery is at least 50% charged;
5. With device powered OFF, hold the Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously for approximately 5 seconds;
6. Your device will recognize the firmware located on dload of your micro SD and flashing will automatically begin;
7. Wait around 3 to 5 minutes for installation to complete.
8. Your device is now fully stock.

Thank you for taking the time to do this. Everything is back to normal again.
Here's the new thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/rom-huawei-union-y538-stock-firmware-t3584542
For those who are interested and are on stock non-rooted and didn't receive the (german) update by now, here is the logcat link i took :
( i was already on B04(bootstack/system (Australia)) but couldn't help to go back to B02 to have the link and share it - of course back on B04 :cyclops: )
( http://dl1.ztems.com:80/zxmdmp/down...es/HK/ZTE/ZTE A2017G/406489/fota_B04_B06MR.up )
or here the same uploaded zip file with a "little" bit faster download speed
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634768949
Rename to .zip (or try the .up file) ( you may even rename it to update.zip ...)
you don't have to upzip it
Put into root SD (external) or try internal storage
...and update via settings ( when on B02)
ps : when your phone won't detect the zip, you could try to wipe cache in stock recovery and reboot again and try to update again into settings menu
or update in stock recovery either via ADB sideload or update from SD
Enjoy !
Thanks Bro was looking for this.
So I'm able to flash the fota updates via system recovery, but is there any reason why the system updater isn't detecting the files on SD card/not receiving the B04 prompt? ?

Unpack the zip-file, but it in the root of your phone or in the root of external sd card.

Just to be clear, you're suggesting to rename the .up file to .zip, then unpack said .zip file to root directory? ?

Just rename. You don't have to unzip anything.
Although I did the update with the UP file once in adb sideload (in stock recovery) when I was on B01.
This is for non rooted users. It's just the clean, German original update from ZTE. Just for those who didn't get it by now.

Yes you can, either adb sideload or via update sd, all in stock recovery.
Or via the normal way when your phone detects the SD update. I have no idea why your phone doesn't detect the OTA on your SD by the normal way via settings. It should but this thing happens often.

ooops, sorry my bad...didn't read the whole thread...thought you had the whole zip...I had similar problem with the .up file so the easiest way to do the update was downloading the whole firmware zip...

You mean the " australian " one. AFAIK there isn't already posted a german region whole firmware zip. (could be wrong)
Although i believe there won't be much difference in the end result

You can upgrade straight using the Australian full V1.2.0B04 ROM. It's 2GB++ file size. Extract the update.zip and put into the root directory of your internal storage or SD card. Then open the system update and it should detect the new firmware.
My phone doesn't detect the update from internal neither from SD. I tried both files, and cleared cache. Says my firmware is up to date, I'll wait till it pops up officially for my region

Try in recovery. Either via SD or via adb sideload update.zip (put zip in adb folder PC)
(Also try all these steps with .UP instead of .ZIP)
Or flash the whole Australian zip bootstack + system. I'm running on that one. Or flash the original full Australian zip.
Possibilities enough
