Where did back up and restore go? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just updated my phone to the newest firmware and made sure to back up the entire contents of my phone to my computer.
However, when I went to the menu to restore my settings and contacts from my sim card, the stock app is not there. so how do i restore my contacts from the data directory?

First off, only make one post (XDA doesn't like spamming)
Anyway, what was the app name and are you on 2.3.5? Do you use XRECOVERY? Are you on custome Rom and/or kernel?

[Q] Samsung Captivate - Nandroid Contacts

Alright, so I have rooted my Captivate, and brought it up to 2.2 (no thanks to AT&T). My issues are the following. Before I started messing with the operating system at all, I did a full Nandroid backup. My special situation is that I had contacts not associated with my Gmail account, and not synched to my SIM card, because it was full. These contacts should be backed up with the nandroid backup, but is there a way to simply extract them and put them on my computer, or have them back on my phone, without overwriting all of the data on my phone again? I'm a little bit desperate, and haven't been able to figure this out. Thanks so much for any help.
Edit: Just to make things a little clearer, here's what specifically I'm looking to do. I would like to be able to take the data.img file, and extract the contacts from it to my computer. Also, is it possible in Nandroid to restore just the contacts to the phone?
Have you tried exporting your contacts to a vcard in the phone's settings? this would save a .vcf file to your phone's sd card, which you can then e-mail or send to your pc.
contacts > menu > Import/Export > Export to SD card
Vcard
Well, because I already made the software changes and went to 2.2, the contacts arent currently loaded, but instead stored in the Nandroid backup. Is it possible to do this with just my nandroid files?
I see. I'm not sure how you can do that. Do you have the nandroid backup on your pc? Can you try running it on an old android phone?
Unfortunately, I do not have an older android device to load this up with. Anyone have a suggestion for how I might be able to open up the data file and extract some of the information? I do have the nandroid folder with all of the parts of the backup on my windows machine.
i am actually trying to do the very same thing. its hard because i cant just restore the nandroid backup because the kernels do not match up and i have been having a hell of a time getting back to a 2.1 kernel and restoring. it keeps boot looping.
i am trying to track down where in nandroid the contacts are stored because you can do an advanced restore and choose from specific directories so it might work. but can not find it so far. good luck, ill be following this thread so if you figure it out, let us know.
Well I have a fascinate, so I cant give you specific files to use etc, but I have no problem flashing 2.1 .tar through odin while I am on 2.2
For example, if I run into a problem on an eb01(2.2) ROM, I can just odin my trusty dl09(2.1) .tar and I am back to stock, bloated dl09 kernel/baseband/rom. Perhaps you can look in your specific device forum for an equivalent odin image?
I do not know how the nandroid backup is built, but would it be possible to burn the image to an SD card and take the files off of there? Or maybe using WINRAR to extract the files? The problem is, again, I do not know how it is made. I will try this as soon as I can get to my computer.

so what i ended up doing to get this to work was flashing JI6 in odin and then restoring nandroid.
Well, I dont know where these backups are going, after backing up, if i go in nand manager, I see the file, but when clicked to explore, says this type file cannot be opened.
online nand says backup was successful, but there is nothing in the file. And it shows it as file size: 4kb.

SE warned us all along that the Backup and Restore app would not be included in the 2.3.3 update. However, I heard the 2.1 version works fine. You just need to install it yourself.

Based upon original phone firmware .
Kies contacts vids photos etc copy and paste to PC .
Format sd card via USB mass storage
Boot to recovery mode Factory reset and wipe .
jje
Additionally, app data can only be backed up (and by extension, restored) if you have root. I use Titanium Backup.
I have checkrom v6 and can titanium have backups on computer?
Save your Titanium backups to your internal or external SD cards, then hook your phone up to your PC via USB, transfer the backups to your PC. When you've formatted/wiped/reset your phone, transfer your Titanium backup back to your internal/external sd card. Restore. Done.

Once you back up your app with titanium, the backed up data will be in /sdcard/TitaniumBackup on your phone. It's a good idea to copy this entire folder to your computer for safekeeping.
Then when you wipe your phone, this folder SHOULD still exist. Once you re-root (by reinstalling CheckROM, or rooting via other means), you can just restore your app data normally if the folder is still there. Otherwise, copy the folder back from your computer to the same location on your phone. (/sdcard/TitaniumBackup) Then restore using Titanium.
I've encountered issues when restoring App + Data through Titanium though. I find best results by re-installing the app fresh from the market, then restoring data ONLY.

SMS can be done through Titanium as well. I believe the entry is called [SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage 2.x.x, where 2.x.x is whatever Android version you are currently on.
Alternatively, there are a number of apps on the market that can back up your SMS and MMS to your Gmail account. As of now though, they can only restore SMS, and not MMS. I use SMS Backup +.
As for the other stuff, contacts should be automatically synced to your Google account. Check to make sure though. Settings > Accounts and sync, check your Google account. Make sure "Sync Contacts" is checked. When you re-enter your Google account settings after a factory reset, it should pull your Google contacts down to the phone automatically.
For everything else, see JJEgan's post above.

Then copy the TitainumBackup folder to your computer, wipe, then copy it back. This is pretty clear. MistahBungle even gave that suggestion above in post 5.

[Q] How do you make a full flashable backup?

I have run a search and surprisingly did not find my particular question..
How do I make a backup (image?) of my phone as it stands now...
I flashed a rom, everything is working to my liking and have backed up all my apps and settings via TB.
Is it possible to have a backup sitting on my PC that I can just flash with Odin or CWM that will restore my phone to how it is right now? Similar to a PC image?
Thanks in advance!

Just make a nandroid backup using cwm and copy those backup files located in "clockworkmod " folder in SD card to your PC. Whenever you need to restore it back just copy back the files to.the same location and restore it via cwm.

Lost ALL contacts

I've lost all my contacts today.I was deleting some unneeded files on my SD card (Might have deleted some necessary files) and was preparing to flash a ROM. After I flashed I noticed my contacts gone. I have tried toggling with the import from SD card and sim card.. Ive also tried display sim card but it doesn't work. I have some nandroid backups and was wondering if I can extract my contacts out of one of the updates. I also have a deleted files recoverer program on my computer which might find the file I deleted. Problem is, I don't really know which files I need. Another piece of information that might be helpful is that I tried restoring back to one of the nandroid backups but found only 2 contacts... Please help
