Hey guys,
when I used to be on the roms based on the Motorola base, I used the Motorola account thing. Now that I'm on cm7, I don't have any of those contacts. Is there a way to get those contacts on my phone?

Maybe you can sync them to your google contacts.

Yeah for exchange. I work for a large corporation, 200k+ so can't really sync all my contacts. Using a 3rd part app called corporate addressbook right now. Works but can't believe it wouldn't have a built in global address search

Ok, im a freaking idiot! Once I start using the search function in contacts it gives an option to search my corporate directory. Thanks for bearing with my idiocy

ahh, I was about to maybe suggest that you didn't have any local contacts to sync and that your desk machine might be using the global directory. Glad you got it figured out.
What is the best way to backup contacts now that we can't use the backup /restore option in android 2.3

this had to go to Q&A, but anyways, just install them on sim card and they will sync everytime you reflash the phone or do something else or use titanium backup or any other 3rd party application.
I have all my contacts stored in my gmailaccount and let it sync after I put a new ROM on my phone.
Before I went to the trouble of storing all my contacts in my gmailaccount, I used the backup to .vcf function in Go Contacts app.
+1
I do same as ldeleeuw, just synch it with your google account
Regards
Awesome guys.
How do I do that?!
And will my calendar be synced as well?

Yes it will!!
I will recommnend Google sync.. it also helped me many times when I am running out of battery.
Also editing is also powerful in Gmail acct.
Another tool I found was, fjsoft's mobile phone explorer. It will give you many options to customize backup. Google fjsoft and dload. "Mobile Phone Explorer" is free.

On my PC, I imported a vcf-file into my gmailaccount, which I created with GO Contacts. It's is a single vcf-file with mutiple contacts, so importing it is very easy.
To sync it with your phone, you'll need to setup syncronisation somewhere in settings
What about going into settings and pressing the sync button to sync with my gmail account ?

sounds like you are already synced, have to checked your contacts page in gmail on a pc?
also you can got Phone book - menu - more - Backup contacts - memory card
I would go for MyBackup as i dont sync often.

I'm using MyPhoneExplorer and I think it is the best back up way. You can sync, archive, export, import your contacts, messages and calendar.
It can save your contacts with pictures. See this page:

just use old backuprestore.apk.....it is working like charm...see my post..

Backup & Restore from v2.1 can be installed on v2.3.

I backed up my 508 contacts using a vcf file when I transferred from my sgs2 to the sgs3.
However when I import the file to my sgs3 contacts, I see it importing 508 contacts but only 140 show on my contacts list.
In fact some names i see during the importation process do not appear on contacts after. They are also not found in the groups tab.
What could be wrong and how do I get my full list of contacts back.

I used Android Sync WiFi manager, free app on marketplace, worked fine
How exactly did you use it
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
This doesnt help but why on earth aren't people using Google to save there contacts......you have to set up a google account to use the market anyway

I tried to import the vcf file directly to Gmail but it didn't work.
I also tried syncing my old sgs 2 contacts with Gmail but it took long so I've always stuck with vcf backup. It's worked well for me. Till now.

I Did a custom rom for a friend of mine and during the importing I had major problems. Tracked it down to one of the contacts having special characters in it, the # symbol.
Hope this helps.
best to auto sync with Gmail

I won't trust that. Once doing a root and custom rom for one friend of mine I lost all his contacts coz the merge with Google lied to me, had the G letter but upon booting in the new rom no contacts synced when he added the Google account. Lucky for me he did not get totally pissed off with me :-\
So I used my friend's sgs2 (my old phone) to load my contacts and sync with Gmail. It kept on fc'ing but I was able to get around 380 contacts. Since I have a lot of duplicates i think this was a good number to recover despite the constant fcs.
The sgs2 was able to read all of my contacts, but I remember syncing my contacts with Facebook profile pictures thru samsungs hub and another third party app. This may have made the vcf partially unreadable by the sgs3 and Gmail.

nub here,
just installed first non HTC based ROM (CM10). It doesn't ask to sign in with gmail and then doesn't sync contacts and apps. I tried putting in my gmail account where it asked for my email and yet no contacts or apps.
where, and why can i sync all my stuff up at?
thanks
Did you flash the Gapps package for JellyBean after flashing the ROM?
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
gapps are not pre-packaged in all ROMS
Hello children. Uhhhmmm I recently flashed epinters 10.1. Actually this is the first time flash a custom rom. I just wanna ask about my facebook contacts. I added my acct Facebook but it didn't snyc like blur does. I used sync me but wasn't satisfied. I want all my contacts in Facebook sync in my phone even though they dont have phone/contact numbers. How'd i do that?! Thank you.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Thats because this isn't a blur rom.
I recall seeing contact sync on android apps section.
EDIT: I cant fimd it, but you could also try in the playstore, there seems to be several apps that do what you need
