[q] Why LG Optimus One P500? - Optimus One, P500, V General

(,"o Yeah Man ~
All Optimus One Users..
Let each other know why you choose this Handset instead of other High-End Android Device..
So The Question Is..
WHY LG OPTIMUS ONE P500 '?

Well... because probably many of us aren't rich enough to buy a Samsung Galaxy S or S2
BUT aside that obvious financial reason... at the time the conciliation between the pricing AND the phone specs just seemed unbelievable to be true so I took my chances and I'm not regretting at all having this phone! Although I am now tempted to try the Ideos X5, however I am not rich nor can spend more money at the moment so... I'm sticking to my good old fashioned P500

because good price/performance ratio

Best in its price range with hell lot of features

For the price, its basically a g1 w/o the keyboard and has a slightly higher processor. Its not a bad phone

Long Story ^_^
well here's my story.. lol
back in february me and my wife are in hurry buying phone coz we both lost our phone back in november 2010.. we went to a shop near our location and she was in a hurry getting SE X8.. now its my turn to choose what phone should i get
honeslty i dont have anything in mind @ that time' my last high-end device was Nokia N70 hahaha.. then i grab Samsung Wave. first thing i did was go on youtube and watch video' i was a bit dissapointed coz the video was pixelated' i tried to play the same video on X8 and it was not pixelated. Then i gave back the phone to a sales personnel who took care of us. Then i found LG GT540' its pretty fine but i dont like the resisitive touchscreen' and we're running out of time coz its almost 10pm and the shop was about to close. then we went home the other day we went to a mall to buy something (not a phone) then while walking' 1 guy gave us a slip of paper (flyer) and it was an advertisement of LG Optimus One Limited Edition (glossy cover) w/ silicon case & bluetooth headset. Hell Yeah ^_^ the following day i search about LG Optimus One' i found out that its a cheap pretty decent android phone then after a couple of days we went to LG Store and purchased it..
that's my Optimus One Story .. LOL
and im so damn happy how it works now..
im not considering buying another android handset' i am now looking forward to Asus EEPad Transformers ^_^ we'll buy it on December Yeah Man ~
sorry for my english

To be honest I only had cheap flip phones before this one I decided I would spend some money and get a good phone for once. Went to the store, started checking out some phones, took a look at the Blackberry Curve 9300. It was on sale for a good price, and the plans they were offering at the time were good.
Bought the blackberry, found out I hated it after having it for 5 days. I have buddies with androids and they love them. So, back to the store, and I exchanged it for this nifty phone. Best part was that it was 80 bucks cheaper. Now I don't think I'll get anything else, best bang for the buck. I lost my old one and rather than get something different I just bought this phone again.
Then I found this site and now I don't think you could pry my P500 from my cold dead hands.
Thanks XDA for fueling my android addicition

Because my mother only allowed me buy a $0 dollar handset at my Telco. So i picked this instead of galaxy mini

I didn't know much about phones at the time and I just picked this one because I thought I wouldn't need a high end device. It turned out to be an awesome pick and it's a very good phone, but if I had to repick now I would of gotten a higher end phone.

I didn't pick my phone. It picked me!

This is an extra reason for acquired this phone

There was a half-off introductory sale for the Optimus One last year. I read about it and it became a snap decision to get one. Half off was 6500 pesos (around 151 dollars) unlocked. My friend and I went to the mall at 9.30 am (it opened at 10am) and sneaked into an open fire escape / side entrance and sat there until 2pm.
We were the first ones there, even before the employee who opened the store arrived. Then he shooed us away since it was against their agreement with the mall to have a crowd before the actual sale. When 10am hit, we heard a stampede of people running towards the store and before we knew it, we went from first to 17th...
I failed the upcoming exam because we stayed there and couldnt focus on reading. Then I failed the next exam since I bricked my phone within the week of getting it. Good thing the warranty was still there.
This phone is awesome Thank you talented developers of xda for making it super awesome!

BestBuy says "They ain't exactly flying off the shelves"

Noticing a whole stack of them in the case at a local Bestbuy, I asked 2 store managers and 2 other dept employees about the new Razr. They ALL said it was a non-event, although Motorola had invested $mils in advertising. Evidently, it was designed and put into production months ago, and nowadays that's just not quick enough for the Android market. Things simply evolve much faster than Motorola's bureaucracy can adjust.
Biggest reason customers put it back on the shelf: Soldered in, non-replaceable battery.
Reason #2 : The screen is a yawner. It's boring, old news.
Reason #3 : It's new, it's gonna have bugs, and customers simply don't have to put up with that.
#4: $299 w/contract - and you're stuck with it for 2 years.
Is this phone locked? Can it be flashed? Just curious - one of them told me it can't be rom'ed. Would Mot be that monopolistic ?
According to one of the phone-dept workers, a good chunk of sales have been returned overnight after a disappointing unboxing/testing.
Frankly, I thought the phone was a pretty solid piece of work - especially compared to the plastic Samsungs. I love it's little slots on the side for XD cards, NICE touch. But alas, the screen is, well, is just isn't. Not with the 1200x800's about to hit around Thanksgiving.
Oh well, one of them said Mot's is already planning a Razr-2 in Jan to fix all this stuff, but now they're behind the power curve. Who knows.
I think Amazon offering the phone for $111.11 or Costco including $100+ in extras is why Best Buy isn't selling many.

This.
Also the phone needs recovery at this point I believe. It can certainly be "Rom-ed" but it just can't be "Kernel'ed". That is a pretty lame deal breaker if you want a phone simply to install different kernels to boost your quadrant scores that no one cares about.
If you ask me I agree the phone is amazing, I love it. The screen is mind blowing to me, so I have no problem paying that and being in a contract for it. I guess one needs to consider all the options customers have at this point, mainly with the iphone on verizon now. Every average jo wants an iphone just cause his neighbor has one.
Anyone true tech enthusiast wouldn't buy from Best Buy LOL (I've went there with a friend that insisted I do for Black Friday). That place is terrible and is a total rip off. Geek squad and the employees (I haven't spoke to a single one that seems to know what they're doing/talking about) yeah they're something else. I highly doubt there's going to be a RAZR 2 coming out in Jan, it's probably the DROID 4, which has similar design but also has a physical keyboard. If it definitely is the the RAZR 2 this will be my last Motorola phone period. If their solution is to just make a new device like 2-3 months later, instead of supporting their most current phones, then that's a bad business model for sure.
Sure there probably will be a RAZR 2, but I personally hope not, seeing it would kinda tarnish the fact that it's a unique device/name series. But yeah with Amazon selling the device for 111.11 on 11/11 and Costco with that beast package, and a good majority of people pre ordering to get the phone early (one day w00t). It's not a surprise that Best Buy isn't pushing the phones like hotcakes. Also I would take anything that Best Buy tells you about Android rumors with a grain of salt.
I wouldn't go to best buy if they were the ONLY brick and mortar selling phones. I'd wait the 2 days for UPS.
Anyone with good common sense wouldn't go to BB for their phones even with their instant rebate deals. Their "insurance" plan is a rip off and the fact Amazon was selling it for 111.11 on the day of release (as someone said earlier) is reason enough for BB to not see this phone flying off shelves.
Add to the fact, all the advertising dollars Verizon spent, pointed to the phone being sold BY VERIZON STORES. I have a friend who works for verizon and she sold out of the RAZR within a couple hours and her store had a couple hundred of them.
SO don't go drinking Best Buy's kool aid. Especially when they know nothing of phones (let alone the products they sell as a whole)
the OP is completely full of crap... so is anyone else that says the removable battery is a "no go". did the soldered in battery hurt Iphone?
the screen on this phone is fantastic, anyone who wants to complain about it is a person that will never be happy with anything.
bugs? this is the least buggy phone that i have ever owned.
im nowhere near a moto fan boy, but these complainers need to jus STFU, the Razr is a sweet phone.......

I lol'd. BB is terrible for computers/phones etc (Newegg for life!). Anyways the fact that they're saying there's a RAZR 2 coming out in like 4 months yeahhh no. Droid 4 probably aka RAZR jr w/ a keyboard, will be nice for those that crave physical keyborads. But I doubt moto is gonna pull another "Bionic" deal with the RAZR. Replacing their flagship so soon after it comes out, I'm trying to retain faith lol.
They do have a 30 day return policy. Also the insurance gets you a new phone (but you have to wait 17 months to get it).

Imo it's all about software optimization. Hardware on these phones are ahead of the software that's out there for sure. GS2 is a beast when it first came out, and still is.

WTF? The battery is replaceable: it isn't soldered. You need to remove two screws on the battery flat cable and your battery can be removed.
Yup, not like other phones where you simply use your fingers, but that's it.

I don't think so. Motorola have learnt this from his past. Milestone was buggy.. but watch at the first ATRIX ROM: there wasn't any important bug at all. They've only enhanced its speed with the updates as personally I haven't noticed any bug.
And anyway, every first S/W version of every pda has got some bugs, that's absolutely normal, with the exception that Motorola is very fast at updates.

This device is another exception in Motorola's policies. Moto uses to sign their devices forever, but as Moto said and confirmed publicly, like happened on ATRIX for the Gingerbread update, when RAZR will get ICS, Moto will give us an unlockable bootloader, thing that is SURE for non branded devices and for branded ones (like Verizon's...) it's about the operator.

I know of some guys that have bought the RAZR, unboxed, tested for 30 minutes and then re-sold it. It was too big for their hands. I don't know other bad things as for now.
Anyway, in my opinion, you should try the device in a store prior buying it, especially if it is a big device and you've got small hands.

As for the screen, it's really, really good because it's an AMOLED display.. but I have to admit I haven't ever liked the PenTile matrix.

Mmh, I don't think so, at least for now. They've just released the RAZR.
That would cut their RAZR sales and make them lose a lot of money.
I guess everyone who did buy a RAZR, and is happy with it (myself included) should throw our device away and hang our heads in share, based on this information from the always solid reliable and correct Best Buy store employees.
Anyone know what the Costco bundle for the RAZR comes with?

Yes! Cause we all know that Best Buy store employees are always right !!!!
Since I agree with most of these Bestbuy comments, I made a trip over to the Verizon store. Hit 3 actually, one is the largest in the state. Guess what - there were dozens of new razr's in stock there too.
Not convinced, I asked around, speaking to 3-4 employees in each store. They all said the same thing the Bestbuy people did - the phone is a 7 month old semi face lift of some earlier Mot phone, and simply put nobody cares for it and nobody's impressed. Same list of complaints earlier in this thread.
"What's everybody waiting for" I asked? Everyone said the same thing: the high res screens that are about to hit. Namely the SAMSUNG Nexus is the first of a long list of new generation phones, we may see 6-7 by EOY they told me

Should I get the Note now or wait?

Hey Guys! I'm currently using an iPhone 4 and I am eligible for an upgrade with AT&T immediately. I am basically dead-set on getting the Samsung Note. It looks amazing and I'm a big fan of the huge screen (ex dell streak user!).
My question is: should I go ahead and do the upgrade now or wait for the price to drop? If I were to upgrade now it would cost me ~$300 not including taxes, etc. That price seems high to me. I know it's a great phone and everything but the prices are bound to drop, just like every other great phone before the note.
Let me know what you guys think! Thanks!
You could try to get it for $150 through Best Buy by following the trick in that other thread.
Specifically, follow this link:
http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/deals/linkshare-savings.jsp?partner=LinkShare&siteId=dZCX6Je2w8Q-sBG3oO9zQ5oOdYyuLQ44IA
Then select "New to ATT", add the note to your cart, add any plan and data plan, then go to check out. A $150 discount should be shown in the cart. Print out the cart, then go to Best Buy and say you would rather buy the phone in store and bring your business to them, and have them try to price match. It's worth a shot, though it may not work.

I will tell you my story. 4 months ago I had an upgrade available and bought the GS2. Loved the phone but my wife's phone died so I returned it and got her an iPhone. At the time I was thinking I would just buy the S2 cheaper in 4 months. Fast forward, the S2 is half the price yet I am going to spend more to get the note.
Moral of the story, get what you want now because something better will be out later.
Exactly get your device and enjoy it now. There will always be something new around the corner in android land.
I agree, get what you want now. If you wait till the price drops then another phone will be announced that you will end up wanting. Especially since MWC is happening this week.

I couldn't agree more, get what you want now. In my opinion this is the best phone I've ever owned.
If you're not signing on as a new customer...or not adding a line to an account...it's better to wait for the Note to drop further in price. Amazon currently sells it for $250 for all customers....which is still a rip-off considering there's no ICS yet for Note.
But I can understand if you currently only have 1 phone that is 'hanging by a thread'...then might as will make the purchase now.

I loved my Samsung Captivate, but the Note is my new love affair.
Whirling around fine on stock right now, but keeping my eyes on the dev threads.
Seeing all of these posts today around HTC and the new One X coming to AT&T had me bumming a little with the mad specs, but then I remembered I have a 5.3 inch HD screen.

Returned the note, went back to SII, thinking about coming back

There is something wrong with me.
I returned my galaxy note due to the fact that it wasn't as snappy as an S2 and i missed the huge selection of roms... and while I'm happy with the S2 overall (again).. i have found that nearly a month of using the note has shifted my priorities.
I now find myself missing the big screen size more than I thought I would.
Here's my dilemma.
I kind of want the note back. But I've done 2 reverse upgrades already (i'm indecisive as ****)
I got this S2 from walmart because the ATT store here didn't have the original S2 (lte market)
Will walmart let me do a reverse upgrade do you think?
and then would ATT still let me upgrade again?
Would you go back to the note if you were me?
I'm stupid. Feel free to make fun of me.

Was really hoping for some opinions.
We all had the lag when it came out, but I'm oh SAUROM, overclocked etc and the Note is SUPER smooth! Not kidding, we're talking butter here...
Literally, ZERO LAG!
There are some seriously slick themes being made, too. Couldn't be happier!

I have a rusty butter knife. I'm not worthy of the s-pen stab.
Could have told you that lol. Anyone who was considering going back to a S2 after having a Note is Crazy!
Is there a tiny tiny bit of lag once and a while, sure but nothing I'd give the phone up for. I'm on the stock ROM btw. People get to crazy with the "lag" theory. Mines fast as hell, I just clear the RAM once and a while no probs.

Yeah, I'm realizing now that I would trade this smaller screen and zero lag for the bigger beautiful display and slight lag every once in a while.
The rom thing isn't as big to me as I thought it was.
I really hope I can reverse again.

you can.
i'd say get it from best buy if you have one near you. i'm biased (i work there selling phones) but i think it has great value.
typically you get someone who is more knowledgable (it varies, not everyone is a phone nerd)
you have the option to get a really good protection plan (no deductible, unlimited claims, water damage coverage, loaner phone, etc.)
and the option to get the buy back which will give you guaranteed $$ back when you trade in your phone w/in 2 years based on retail (its $60 normally, but if you have the protection plan for at least 1mo you get it half off, for $30. minimum you would get back is around your upgrade @ 20% of the RETAIL value which is $799.99)

But then again honestly is there a girl that owns the note? I haven't met one (actually I've met no one with a note) but all the girls that see it are like wow that's too big... And im like don't worry. Im not just compensating, although my note would definitely entertain you longer.

Yeah, my girl owns the note. Since hers is the name on the account, she got the upgrade/re-up price. I was 3,000 miles away when she got em, so she's had hers a week more than I've had mine.
I admit I turned her onto the Note... I just couldn't stop blabbering about it compared to our Streaks. But she found the Streak not too long after it showed up at Best Buy, and after I went and abused one in the store, I gave the OK to go with the 5-inch candybar. We've had matching phones now for just over 2 years and she'll never be able to go to a smaller phone again.
It's a hoot at dinner parties when one of us takes out the phone (as it has been for a while) and someone, inevitably, comments; "My god, what is that? Is that a phone or a tablet?" Whichever of us had taken it out replies; "Yes, its both (Streak and Note... same difference for most people)" Then the person comes back with, "Wow, I've never seen anything like that before. That's almost too big, how can you use that? I doubt anyone could carry something that big. How do you carry it, does it even fit in your pocket?...." Then the other one of us will take out the other one. All conversation at the table stops. The inevitable iPhone comparison ensues.... 4 iPhones = (not really, but in screen real estate, close enough) 2 Notes. Pictures taken (if there are any phones left after the comparison laying of small useless phones on the big ones), jokes made... on both sides.... lol. "Wow that's so big" Me: "that's what she said" Her: "Why do you think I keep him around?" Them: "Are you compensating for something?" Me "What, both of us?" Them: "I'm not sure I could use something that size" Her: "Oh, I thought so too at first, but after a week or so I was used to it, and I could never have something smaller." Yeah, they are great icebreakers too... at anything from dinner parties to business meetings.

Haha No but seriously for
1. Your upgrade can't be denied to you unless your bill is past due other than that your titled to it.
2. Go to Amazon they have a 30 DAY return policy and its 250 with free car charger and I believe target has it to.
3. Your just missing out

LoL @ over2land's story.
It is a conversation starter though - I've pulled it out standing in the back of an elevator with three people, and the guy standing in front actually came and stood next to me. Three guys shoulder to shoulder on the back wall of the elevator was pretty awkward.
The only other time I've ever had anyone stop me to ask about my phone was when I had the first generation iPhone [when it was still around $400 and not ubiquitous].
In the past three weeks of having the Note, I've been asked about it more times than ever with the iPhone.
This is why some people shouldn't have choices. Apple makes it easy for you... one new phone a year. No choices, no second guessing. And I can see why some people are happier with Apple for this very reason. But if you are going to be an Android user, you need to grow up a bit, make an informed decision, and be happy with it.
Then come to XDA and push that device as far as it can possibly go
My gf has the white note and never looking back. Her best friend bought one after playing with hers, she dumped her 4S and loves the screen size as well.

I kind of dumped my 4S too (its lying around in my house), but this gorgeous display is too tempting to let go!

I think I have a problem waiting for this phone...

I dont know what it is but for some reason I just REALLY want this phone right now. I have to admit when the gs3 was first announced I thought it was the ugliest thing out there. Lately its been growing on me and I just want it very badly right now. I probably seen every unboxing/review video of it in youtube and I constantly check for updates on what the situation on this phone is. What makes matters worst is that i pre ordered this phone on Verizon so i have to wait longer then everyone else to get it. Im just hoping for a stroke of luck that some how The verizon model gets shipped out before the 9th. Anyways am I the only one like this?
i think the hype for this phone has been just so much a lot of people are feeling the same way...
im actually about to return my HTC Evo 4G LTE (which is an AWESOME phone), for putting in my pre-order for the sgs3
the removable, larger batter and the 2 GBs of RAM really have me pumped, plus a lot of cool extra features, gesture controls, etc make this a super exciting phone...

Exactly! lol and i think what sold me the most on this phone is the fact that the battery is gonna be way better then my galaxy nexus so i dont have to worry about it dying all the time. Also all of the other features are just amazing.

lol noooo you're not the only one. I've watched almost every video on youtube.. over and over and over again and finally someone shared a video of the Canadian version which is the same as the U.S. one which I will be getting on June 21st from tmobile I am too too excited! imma have to pay 600 somethin for it.. grrrr
hahaha same, im stalking this phone like a bieber fan.
Yea you're alone. I'm coming from an Evo 4G, and there have been some decent replacements, like the nexus, galaxy S II, but I've been stalking this phone since it was first annouced back before march. I'm with Sprint, so I'll have mine next week. You can live vicariously through us.
Waiting on a pre-order is worse than simply waiting for release in my opinion, since the money is already gone from my account, but no phone in hand. Reading about how much the international people are enjoying theirs already makes it even harder.
You are not alone. I am also very excited for the S3!!! Then again I have an X2 so really any phone is looking good to me right about now lol!
I'm pretty blown away by the specs of the S3 and if I don't have to pay full price for it, I'll probably get it. Does anyone know if I would still have to pay full retail price for the S3 if I upgrade my contract before the 28th and lock in another 2 years unlimited data?? On Verizion, obviously...

I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way. I think Samsung should start doing their press release events the day before release because making us wait this long is simply unfair. I am secretly hoping that my carrier will call me today and say 'we got a stack of phones in early, would you like to pick yours up early?' LOL. Seriously, I know once I have the phone a while the novelty will wear off a bit but I want it now. And its not like my SGS2 is not a good enough phone or won't hold me over for another year. Do we need help or are just simply victims of marketing?? haha
And now it looks like the Canadian release date has been increased another week to the 27th.
I can't wait either cuz I'm not rooting this evolte since its temp so I want my permanent gs3 yeah buddy.
I thought I was the only one... I thought this was the ugliest phone, but it some how has grown on me, a lot, like I haven't been this bad since the first iPhone came out (everyone was going crazy about it)... and the fact that I haven't seen any U.S variants is driving me nuts...
Lol same here, I almost bought the international version a few days ago to use on AT&T. *Patient running on low*
Im watchin youtube videos of the s3 on my evo lte drooling over the s3 lol

Currently waiting for my S3 from Verizon also and going crazy but over the last couple days it seems that I'm phasing it out more and more. I was going crazy at first and now I'm just like whatever when it comes it comes especially with no solid release date, I've heard so many 6/28, 7/9, 7/10 all I know is that its pre ordered and I'll be in the first batch of shipments whenever it happens.

Just a phone dude. And like all android phones that get rooted, you never find it perfect because you keep flashing and flashing until some other phone comes out and you feel the need tio get rid of the one you have.
I'm on here like 100+ times a day among every other site that I can find info. I even went and did a recon on a T-Mobile store to find the best tactical advantage for me to get my phone first. Crazy!

Phone Suggestion on par with Amaze

So... after using the Amaze for some months... I basically drop it, broke the edge of the screen (usable, just a bit annoying seeing a line at the right edge on the search button), and accompanied with some small problems. Although as you guys can see on the picture, the crack is not that bad; but kind of unpleasant. Since I love trying new phone, I am thinking of trying another phone if there is an option while getting rid of the annoyance.
Long story short, I am thinking of selling the phone and get another phone to play with... But, here's the catch... I don't want to spend too much just for playing with new phone (so no s3 or one x/s for me) and it needs to work on t mobile 4g.... I can't really think of any phone other than Amaze that fall that have a beast spec like 1.5ghz dual core, 1gb ram, and fantastic camera and still within the 200-300 range (even s2 in my area's craigslist is still about 300+)... I'm just trying to see if there is anything on par with amaze in terms of spec vs price.... If I got no other option, I might sell my amaze and get another amaze... But, who knows someone here have an idea...
Lastly,... What price do you guys suggest to sell this phone on craigslist with a not perfect screen (assuming I can throw an extra battery and back cover)? Most listing in my area range from 250-320....
Well my amaze is pristine like I just pulled it out of the box and people don't even want to pay $270....
So om thinking since yours has a crack it will go for a lot less
Sent from my epic amaze 4g
The next best thing to the Amaze (besides the one s) would be the Sensation. Specs are not as good (but close) as the Amaze but it should be with in your budget on Craig's list. And there is a lot of support for the Sensation.

I also think that way... I am thinking of selling it around 200-220 range because it's still usable and if you replace the screen, it will cost about $50 for the screen.... Plus, the price around my area still goes for 270-320. Do you think that's reasonable?

This...! I want to but there is no used gsm galaxy nexus in my area and the new one cost 350+tax which is about 150 bucks more for a slower processor and worse camera (with faster update though)...
My screen is WAY worse than that, shattered from the bottom right corner to about half way up the screen, still works fine tho. I have some pics in my "i'm back!" Thread. Ne ways, I had it on craigslist, I wasn't going to sell it but I just wanted to see what I could get if i decided to, and someone was gonna buy it for $100, so u should have no problem getting two hundred for yours.

Ya... I actually just re-check on ebay and the screen digitizer cost only 26 bucks... So, if that person is diligent enough to change it, that will be a damn good deal (for you $100 case)... So I suppose 200ish will be fair enough. lol.. I guess I will try to sell it first and get a new phone afterward (and use my old faithful g2 while searching )...
Anyway,... I suppose there isn't much of a choice because of t-mobile 1700 2100 freq...

I work at an electronics repair shop and I will say, some android phones are a total ***** to replace the digitizer on. You will see most phones get a digitizer/LCD combo because it is so much harder to do just the digitizer.. but if you think you can do it, that small a price for a digitizer will increase the value much more than trying to tell THEM to do it.
If you like your amaze and you're willing to keep it.. most repair shops should be willing to do it for between 30-50 if you provide the part - don't break it again and you can sell it for more money later anyways when a phone WORTH upgrading to had finally come out. Otherwise you wanting good hardware specs and good picture quality makes me say you should just fix it. But that's just my 2ยข.
