Help needed for Rom Flashing - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've just used this guide to Flash my Galaxy S2 to the stock rom from Hong Kong, I've tried using this rom:
ZSKG2
Firmware info
PDA:ZSKG2
PHONE: XXKG1
Date: 08/07/2011
OZS Hong Kong (BRI, CWT, KOR, TGY, TWM):http://www.multiupload.com/RLEHXYE5UG
ZSKG2 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/UB74X7OYG3
Password: [email protected]
I flashed it following these steps: from this link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Flashing Firmware with Odin
1. Just download the firmware version you want from the second or third posts and extract the .tar file in the archive and save it somewhere
2. Reboot your phone to download mode.
To get download mode shut down the device. After it shuts off completely simultaneously press the Down volume key+ Home button + press the power button .
You should see a warning asking you to press volume up if you want to continue or volume down to cancel, press volume up. You are now in download mode!
3. Start Odin
4. Click on the PDA button and browse to the .tar file that you extracted in step 1
If the package has more than one .tar archive then they will be labelled with PDA, Phone/Modem and CSC. Just put them in the corresponding section of Odin
5. DO NOT PUT .PIT FILE AND DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TICK REPARTITION.
Anyone ask about .pit file is a moron
6. Connect the USB cable and wait for the ID:COM section to turn yellow
7. Click start to flash
8. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the device, it will reboot when it finishes.
I flashed it and everything started; however, upon starting up any other programs or even texting or calling i get an error which says something like this "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly please try again"
I would really like to be able to start it up with the original chinese keyboard and various other chinese settings. What am I doing wrong?

Do a factory reset from recovery.

so your saying i should do a factory reset after flashing over correct?
btw... some of the ZSKG2 files are corrupt or something... theres an error when i download.. i downloaded several times b4 i found one that i could extract without an error message sryy i think i should have private messaged that or something but i can't post on that link cause i don't have more than 10 posts yet
THANK YOU!!! it works now ^^ thank you very much! =)

ok!! so
1) I download the stock rom from sammobile
2) and i download the cooper.ops archive from the link that you give me
3) flash via odin
that's it?
ODIN tuturial
1st - Download Odin 4.38 (http://www.4shared.com/rar/UqBhp5Qd/..._v438_www.html)
2nd - Download Cooper.ops
3rd - Go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ and search firmware for your s5830
Then choose the rom that suits you best (download one from your country if possible)
After the above steps are done open odin
At "option" select - "One Package, Auto-Reboot And Protect OPS"
At "select OPS" - choose "Cooper.ops" (The file you´ve downloaded)
At bottom is "One Package" - In here put the file of the room you´ve dowloaded
Finaly put phone in download mode (Vol. Down + Power Button) and connect it to your PC.
Wait for odin to recognize your phone, a yellow sign will light up, ( you need samsung kies in your computer so odin recognize your phone)
And then hit "Start"
Wait about five minutes at the end your phone should reboot by itself
And that should be it
If your phone reboots but stuck ate samsung boot animation.
Remove Battery
Put it back again
Turn your phone into recovery mode ( Center Button + Power Button ) and do a Full Wipe!
One more thing kies cannot be runing wile you are flashing! shutdown all odin processes before flashing!

First off id like to say thanks for looking and helping
I recently updated my phone to the ICS (official) via the OTA update and i found i could NOT install 3rd party versions of software
So i rebooted into odin mode where i then installed the rom i origanaly had then it got stuck at the boot screen with the yellow triangle
So i rebooted into ODIN and re flashed to the origanal XWKF3 i origanaly used
Then i rebooted to the recovery mode then tried to install the rom (update.zip) and it errors saying E:failed to verify whole-file signiture. and E:Signiture verifacation failed, Installation FAILED
It wont no matter what i do play ball so here it is WHAT CAN I DO besides throw it against a wall verrrrrry f in g hard and hope it smashes into millions of lille bits .....
It is making me ill i tell ya
So if anyone can help it would be so appreciated and i would donate £20 to there happy funds they can buy a case or something nice with ........
EDIT:: now it wont respond to ODIN odin sees it but sticks at setting up connection then fails
Also when starting ODIN mode on the phone it says ODIN MODE , PRODUCT NAME SHG-I777 (this was one of the roms i tried) and wont change no matter what rom i try... custom binary says YES (9 counts) CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
cheers again
Can't you skip signature verification in CWM. also did you do a band backup before updating. Strange issue you have.

Hi thanks for replying
I mostly have to get to the recovery from S2 root software and i have to have an unsecure tar rom installed.....
I cant boot into CWM i can only boot into there boot recovery the only options in there are
ANDROID systerm recovery <3e>
Enter: ok key, select :vol up / vol down
reboot system now
apply update from sd card (this is where i get the signiture errors)
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
thats it
What version of the sgs2 do you have? You may have flashed a ROM for the wrong model.
Sent from my GT-I9100T using XDA
I only wish i knew i thought it was the I9100 with XWKF3 tar but i am obviosly wrong and all the kernels in XDA links dont work so cant get the uk o2 ones
Is there anyway of finding out withought having to have a working phone ie through the serial etc..
It is an unlocked phone
I have it on o2 and it is british not imported
Cheers i wish i was clued up about this
The first time i rooted it when i got it it all worked well no problems and i then flashed back to the origanal rom and it worked well got all updates and was still rooted
After ICS i see i could not install some apps i had so i flashed a new insacure rom and thats where it all began
IS IT BRICKED SHOULD I SELL IT AS FAULTY
No, as your phone still turns on.
First boot back into the recovery you have now, and factory reset and wipe the cache.
Then to revert back to stock head over to the galaxy s2 forums, then into original Android development, then head into the official firmware page, and flash one of the firmwares listed there with Odin.
Hope that helps

Hello there,
Here are the steps that might help you.
1. Download ODIN from attachment.
2. Download CM9 Resurrection Edition for use with Odin from below URL.
cm-9-20120330-ODIN-galaxys2.tar.md5
3. Power off your phone.
4. Press Volume Down + Home Button + Power Button simultaneously to enter into download mode.
5. When you're in Download Mode, start the ODIN you've downloaded from attachment and connect your phone to Computer.
6. Let ODIN detect your device and select the downlaoded tar.md5 file in PDA section and click on Start button.
7. If everything is fine, ODIN will install the CM9 ROM in your phone.
8. After the process is complete, disconnect the phone and wait for it to boot.
9. After successful booting up, you may stick with that build or install the latest version of CM9 from below link.
update-cm-9-20120331-CODEWORKX-galaxys2-signed.zip
10. Just put above mediafire file in your SD Card.
11. Boot your phone in Recovery mode from your OS, Wipa data, cache, dalvik-cacke, battery stats
12. Format /system
13. Install zip file from SD card and select the downloaded file from mediafire, install it and reboot after successful installation.
14. You may optionally install GAPPS from recovery by downloading it here.
Let me know how it goes.

No, don't add that PIT file. Just post the log messages from ODIN.
EDIT:
Also try following things:
1. Make sure you're in download mode and your screen shows "Downloading..." text.
2. Take out your battery for 5 minutes and put it back.
3. See if the phone charges in power off mode. If yes, make sure it's charged enough, at least 30%.
4. Can you go into Recovery mode? Try pressing Volume Up + Home Button + Power Button simultaneously to enter into recovery mode. If you're able to get into recovery mode, you can flash the update-cm-9-20120331-CODEWORKX-galaxys2-signed.zip file from there. See if that works for you.
5. Possible post a screenshot of ODIN where it's stuck.

Right now, you've installed CyanogenMod ROM of Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 version of Android. It doesn't have Kies in it as it's a version from google, more clean and bloatware free. If you want, you can go back to Samsung Version to use Samsung Kies. All you need to do is to download and follow the instructions from following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
Alternatively, here are instructions to import it into without Kies.
there is one way i found
1. open Kies
2. open your last saved *.spb file
3. save the file again as *. vsf manually in the file name area
4. go to were normally saved spb files ( C:\Users\ _\Documents\samsung\Kies\PIMS)
5. you will find all the contacts saved as vsf file.
6. select all contacts and copy them in a directory (ontacts)
7. connect your samsong to the pc and copy the directory (cotacts) in to the sd card
8. disconect your samsong
9. select the contact icon
10. from the left key press and select import contact from sd
job done

PS: I suggest you to save all your contacts to Google that way you don't have to backup them everytime you format your device.
Will do it the 2nd way as i am happy with the software on it now

What exactly is going wrong when you try to flash with Odin?

Did you do it like this: Another user asked the same question, and I guess it worked for him lol. Also this is for the US Galaxy Player 5.0 so don't flash it on a player that isn't this one. You can find all the stock roms here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531850 with step by step instructions too.
1) Download stock rom found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520728 (Use 7 zip or winrar to extract the file)
2) Download and install Kies found here: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/ (if you haven't, it's for the driver)
3) Download and install Odin just click the link http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...IxHp1ISlP2fzGKhtw&sig2=ZjUHLCkIbG1_EprOk9enrA
4) Enable USB Debugging from the GP 5.0 (Settings-> Applications-> Development Check box for USB Debugging)
5) Turn off the player regularly then put it into download mode (Hold Volume down and power), Icon that says downloading at the bottom should pop up (looks like this http://techbyte.co.in/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Android_download.jpg)
6) Open Odin (make sure only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked or you will brick your device)
7) Plug in Galaxy Player to USB port. Under ID:COM it should say something like 0:[COM4] and is yellow. In the message area it should say "Added!!"
8) Hit PDA and select the .md5 file named "ueki8_min.tar" (only use the .pit file if you want to re partition your player otherwise it is not needed)
9) Hit Start and wait until it finishes. Should take anywhere from 2-4 minutes.
10) Profit
Optional Steps*
If you get bootloops then
11) Turn off player, and put it into recovery (Hold simultaneously power + volume up + settings button [button left of the home button])
looks like this http://h8.abload.de/img/20100829_004w6fq.jpg
12) Do Wipe data/factory reset, and Wipe cache Partition
13) Profit
Let me know if this works for you, and if possible can you give me thanks

Hey, welcome!
I just had the same problem, tried to flash a bad ROM and thought I was done for. The information on these forums is a bit scattered so I will just detail what I did to unbrick it.
1. First thing you need to do is have the samsung drivers, if you're on Windows 7 or above, Windows can probably go find them for you when it comes to plugging your phone in.
2. You need to have the original stock firmware, luckily they are essentially all the same so here is the Open Australia version I used (I'm on O2 in the UK) http://www.mediafire.com/?903oq9l7qbmkir4 (password is: mod2xtreme.com)
3: Extract that folder somewhere you will remember.
4: Odin is a firmware flasher, it's what will save your phone. It needs a PIT file, luckily some kind person has already packaged the PIT for the Ace within Odin here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1270119&d=1345402010
Now you have all the different pieces required
5: Open Odin on your computer and put your phone into Odin mode by holding the power button, volume up and volume down. (and read the screen, it'll ask if you if you're sure and to press volume up) - once you plug the phone in correctly and the drivers are installed Odin should come up saying "<ID> Added!!"
6: A picture paints 1000 words here: http://i.imgur.com/La1r4zE.png - you should ensure you select your PIT file, and all the correct files from step 3 (modem = phone) - click start then wait for it to say "Pass" (I had a nervous smoke here)
7: Boot your phone into recovery by pressing the home button, volume up and power. Let it run through the update and wipe the cache and reboot itself.
8: You're in! It went German on me so I had to change the language at the startup screen, but other than that it's fine.

Not Working
I am stuck on Set up connection screen.
Hi, my phone was stuck on samsung boot logo. Now I followed these steps and it worked but when I open the Market it crashes...
Thank you
Many many thanks, tried many many solutions, all failed, complicated this and that. All leading to dead ends and frustration (and my download directory full with junk files and directories). But not this one. Splendid in its simplicity, my Ace S5830I dead since 2 years now works once again.
I want to hug someone

Can you get into recovery mode (power off hold power, home, volume up at the same time) or download firmware mode? (same thing except you hold volume down instead of volume up.)

I hear rumors you can force yourself into download mode by taking out the battery, holding power, home, and volume down and keep holding them while inserting the battery. Try that and tell me what happens. If you get into download mode then I'll tell you the next steps. If not please provide more detail on what exactly happens.

You'll have to search the internet for a stock ROM for your exact model. (Finding ROMs can be hard but I suggest you start with searching this website first. Theres a lot of forums here were people leak ROMs) You'll know you have the right one when it's a compressed file that contains 4 files that begin with the prefixes BL, AP, CP, and CSC. Once you have the ROM you'll need a windows computer and download odin 3.09. Once Odin is downloaded, run it as administrator. Click the AP button and put the AP file in, click the CP button and put the CP file in, and, click the CSC button and put the CSC file in. (Leave the BL one alone, thats only for special circumstances.). Make sure only the checkboxes auto reboot and F reset time are marked. Then put your phone in download mode, plug it in, make sure the console in odin says "added", and click the start button in OdIn and wait until your phone reboots and your phone will be back the way it was out of the factory. (Note: Won't reset Knox.)

I've downloaded a bunch of ROM (no idea which is for my exact model), flashed everyone of them and nothing works. Odin tells me a lot of times "no Pit-partition". When I get into download mode... PRODUCT NAME: (nothing there), CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official, SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
Is this phone dead until the Second Coming or is it possible to resurrect it before that..? Any ideas...? :fingers-crossed: Thanks..!

In that case, you may need to find a .pit file for your phone and put it in the pit slot along with the AP, CP, and CSC and check the option re-partition along with the auto reboot and f. reset time. Make sure ODIN is ran as administrator when doing this. Proceed with extreme caution when doing this. I am not responsible for anything that happens.

Hi, I've done that with several ROM's to no avail. How would I know which ROM is the right one other than just prefixes..? Also, many times when I try via Odin I get a No PIT partition from Odin. I'm lost...
