So guys, i've heard of multi tasking for the 10.1 , but how do you actually do it? like switch from apps to apps without closing the apps, like youtube for example, then playing angry birds at the same time, or youtube on the browser and switching to another app while still playing music from the browser.
Welcome to android. Multitasking is controlled by the system, so it will shut down your program if it needs the RAM. To switch back and forth between programs, use the third button at the bottom.
weird, i did use the third button to switch, but it still closes my youtube app,
is there a way to Clear the Multi-tasking List?

On TouchWiz, it's very easy. Just use Task Manager (the app on the far left that pops up when you hit the TouchWiz menu arrow on the menu bar).
If you're not running TouchWiz, you either have to use a third party app or go into the Settings--Applications--Running Services menu to shut down apps.
imo it is not possible to multitask on the tab. If i listing to radio or music on a website and want to switch to my gmail or other app. . The music stops until i go back to the website again. So real multitasking. . . NO

I think you are thinking of putting apps into the background rather than multitasking. Try TuneIn Radio app and you will see.

When i play video or music on my pc it still plays if i go to edit a worksheet - on the tab it stop. I am fully aware that i can get apps that will be able to play if i do something else, the musicplayer does it. But imo it is NOT multitasking that it only work with somd apps. Either it work or not. I love my tab - but samsungs sales argument about full web expierence and multitask is not possible.

It's an android problem, not specific to Samsung. It's also a lack of user self-education (I don't mean any offense, but if you're getting your information from samsung "sales arguments" instead of a little internet research... well...).
Apps (generally) take less memory than the browser, so use apps for background tasks whenever possible. And use the TW task manager to kill the apps you're not using. That should make your user experience better.

I just answered the ? I dont care about sales argument - but the ? Was how to multitask - and I just answered that imo the tab is not able to multitask. If you satisfied with a tab that not can run a website sametime as you do worksheet or something else - fine with me. I know this issue is not only specific to samsung, but that does not make it able to multitask either.

this is just how android works. it loads up many apps on boot, and in the background even when you didnt not open them, so that it is faster the next time you need to use said apps. some people hate it, but the bottom line is there's nothing you can do about it except remove those apps from your phone. its just how android is built.
You have problems with RAM ? I use like 10% most of the time.
Free RAM is wasted resource. Stop thinking of things in terms of how Windows work with it crappy resource management system previous to Windows 7.
Well, if the RAM used for these apps could have been used to store apps that I really USE instead of apps I don't us, the useful apps could have been started quicker... (and apps I have used recently would not have been kicked out of memory so fast.
do not worry about that.
just uninstall the apps you never use.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again they need to make the system *really* clever by having it learn what apps you use the most and load the relevant processes rather than stuff which is unlikely to get used.

Captain Obvious speaking here , forgive me: If you have the weather widget on screen , or those live wallpapers that link with weather, your accuweather process needs to run.
And any app that has notification mode (like yahoo) will start up on boot, check what it is supposed to do ("are my notifications on or off?") and then recede to background if there is nothing to do or if the notifications are disabled.
If after boot you press and hold the home button, tap "task manager" then switch to the "ram" tab - does it show that you are using all 800 or so MB of memory with all those background apps? Probably not.
what annoys me is that at bootup it loads up apps i use once a week or so and makes it take ages before the phone is usable. fine, keep it in memory once i've used it but don't load everything at bootup ffs
we really need a msconfig type thing to stop this.

this sounds like its your first android phone. you arent the first person to notice this and be unhappy about it. this topic has been beaten to death in the android world. there are utilities you can do to remove broadcast receivers upon startup etc as well as tweak the internal memory algorithm numbers to be more aggressive. but in the end you are going against the OS. its best to remove any app you dont use and dont want starting up like that. and if you need root for that, then this just goes to show why so many people love getting a pure android nexus phone, because this type of nonsense doesnt exist there. its pure barebones elegance, with the OS working precisely as intended. zero samsung bloatware.

My sgs2 takes about 18seconds to boot to be usable thats good for a smart phone my x10 took about 40 and my old x1 was even longer.

my 2nd actually (desire last time round), rooted both, same annoyances in both - not HTC bloat, or samsung - the fact that i can't have control (key word here) over my phone. i mean if i wanted an OS without options i would have gone for an iphone!
i've tried a few apps that claim to stop apps booting up but they all fail.
as far as removing them, why? a simpler solution would be to stop the damn things running all the time. i don't use photoshop on my PC daily but i'm not going to install/uninstall the thing as i use it. it should just sit there waiting to be ran not doing anything at all until that moment.

still a long time when you're looking at the screen wishing it would hurry the hell up. seriously, count it. boot up your phone in front of someone with winmo 7 or an iphone then, after it turns on and you see the first glimpse of your homescreen say - it'll just take another 20 seconds or so. 1...., 2..... 3..... 4..... 5...... etc etc etc.
it's annoying and bad practise from an "instant on" standpoint. i want to turn it on, type in pin, see homescreen and hit a shortcut and have it load. not have to other stuff i wont use that day to load in the background first.
------
anyhoo - this is something that annoys me - big time ...obviously
yeah its just something that you're gonna have to live with. its just the way android is designed for better or worse.
If you have root, get an app called Gemini app manager, its free and you can tweak the autorun settings for anything.
That not the OS caching in ram(good) but stuff you dont need running and using cpu etc(bad).
Just be carefull about what you tweak and backup etc.
Surely stock apps don't each that much battery right? my ram is usually 200MB-300MB / 1GB and I'm using a brand new SG2 stock firmware / unrooted and the only widgets i have are pictures/weather/google search.
Even though social hub, digital clock, etc still run in "Running applications" the list is pretty small...
And what do they do?
What apps can you absolutely not live without on your phone?
1.) Twitter - Social networking that needs no explination
2.) Facebook - Social networking that needs no explination
3.) Titanium Back Up - Backs up all my apps
4.) Chrome 2 Phone - Streams PC chrome pages to phone's browser
5.) Shazam - Music Tagging app
6.) Polaris Office - Best office client I've found for a mobile device
7.) Set-CPU - Allows overclocking of your device if your kernel supports it.
8.) SystemAppRemover - Removes bloatware embedded into the phone
9.) Word With Friends - Fun crossword puzzler with friends
10.) Google Music - All your music with none of the space.... *To the cloud!*
I hope this thread will unearth some hidden gem apps and make users more aware of how they can take advantage of their hardware and get more use out of their phones.
Thanks
*BTW... sorry to the mods if threads like this exist already for this phone.*
•Facebook + Messenger - socialize from my couch
•Paper Camera - Takes awesome sketchbook style photos
•Tapatalk - keep track of forums
•Amazon App Store - Free Paid App Of The Day
•Stock Video App - Plays my movies
•Stock Music App - 5.1 Dolby sounds amazing with nice Skullcandy headphones, otherwise pretty basic.
•Cover Art Downloader - gets album art pretty effectively.
• Audio Tagger - let's me edit mp3 files. I'm really ocd about my music being organized.
•Plants vs Zombies - really fun tower defense style game
•News/Weather widget - gives you weather and news topics of your choice, nice 4x1 layout.

I wish people would just post 1 or 2 apps, as huge lists with no explanations are kind of pointless.
With that said, I just got a GS2 and have been trying out some new apps I never bothered with on my Droid 1.
I'm using Plume for Twitter. It seems like the highest rated twitter client, and I can see why. It's really smooth and slick and has a pretty intuitive interface. I'm liking it a lot and see no reason to ever try another Twitter app.
Llama- Ever wanted to try tasker or Locale, or jealous of the Razr's 'smart actions' app, but didn't want to spend money on any of them? This is a free automatic settings manager and so far it seems really powerful. I'm just getting it set up today, so I don't know how well it works in practice, but it seems to be able to do anything the paid apps do if not more. I always wanted to see how one of these apps really worked but didn't want to pay 6 bucks for one like Tasker so I'd say this is worth trying out if you're looking for something like this.

Some of my favorite, less know apps:
MobiReader Pro: a picture OCR, done completely on your phone. Turns the text in the picture to a text document, where I then use...
CopyPaste Pro: to copy that text and move it to QuickOffice, and use Evernote, and bam! Document for my computer.
FourTracks Pro: for the mobile musician - it allows you to record four tracks much in the same way GarageBand allows you to, and using a couple other programs, I can mix, edit, and produce all on my phone.
ROMToolbox: amazing program. It combines many programs into one. Just look it up on Market. It's worth every penny.
WifiKill: a fun, trolling, but useful program. Kills any other devices connected to your wiring. So say your wife or children are using the internet, downloading movies and whatnot, you can use this app to cut them off, and get all that bandwidth back for yourself.
Finally, N64oid: a great N64 emulator. Nuff said.

Without you, I'll never know about this great app.
Been using this for a few months now, and is great for killing memory hogs like facebook so your phone does not slow down when you need it to answer a call or dial a contact.
Only downside is it takes long for the hibernated apps to start up. 'no such thing as a free lunch' as they say.
But for me the pro's outweigh te cons.
Sent from my phone.
I came across this app while I was looking for something in play store.
it won't freeze your apps, or even kill their processes. But rather, put your background apps (that you select) into HIBERNATION.
"Greenified" apps are automatically hibernated when you're not using them, so you'll always have enough free RAM + Much longer battery life.
I strongly recommend you give it a try. At your own risk of course.

It is nothing but a task killer.
Kills the process after idle time.
confirmed it from Setting-Applications-Running Applications.[ And Other task killers too]
Check out and let me know.
^^nope it isn't a task killer it just hibernates the service so that it doesn't consume any cpu cycles unnecessarily afaik

" Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the TRUE emperor"
Don't go on the description.
I've observed with Facebook app.
The service restarts Every time.
You can feel the excessive leading time.
There is nothing like hibernation.
yes it does kill the app after ideal time, and the good thing that it works, other battery saver only kill app temporary and it will restart automatically again.
don't use it with apps like what's app or viber skype,,, etc
you will not receive calls ir chats untill you reopen the app, personally I am using it with secondary apps like kik and facebook twitter, ,, etc

Hello dear posters,
I think my question is clear. You know Facebook gets updated almost every week. I don't remember but, for older versions of Facebook after hitting a video thumbnail, I was able to choose any player that installed my device ( MX Player, BSplayer etc.)
But after nowadays updates it's changed. When I hit a video it starts directly in Facebook app without asking which way I'd like to play..
I don't want to turn back to previous versions of Facebook and don't want to install 3th party apps.
Is there any ideas how to disable Facebook's default video player?
Can we change some permissions via Root Explorer?
Thanks in advance,

But The problem is, in Facebook app it doesn't ask you which player you'd like to play. After hitting a video it starts directly.

should be a similar thing in the app?
“Auto-play videos on Wi-Fi only”
will still do it on wifi but that's the best you can do for now until FB changes/fixes it.
maybe do FB through a browser instead of the app?
I think that there is a built in player in the app, so the solution should be browsing through a internet browser, which has been said.

I've tested, also tested user agent switchers but failed.. I think the only solution to change Facebook files and change permissions via Root Explorer and text editor

Downgrade to older versions of Facebook app? The ones that allowed you to choose your vid player. You'll have to Google search it.
Thank you dear friends. These are solutions of think differently but i've been searching for a technical solution. Yes i know there are so many older facebook apks to solve that but that's not a real solution for me.. I want to use latest
