And what do they do?
What apps can you absolutely not live without on your phone?
1.) Twitter - Social networking that needs no explination
2.) Facebook - Social networking that needs no explination
3.) Titanium Back Up - Backs up all my apps
4.) Chrome 2 Phone - Streams PC chrome pages to phone's browser
5.) Shazam - Music Tagging app
6.) Polaris Office - Best office client I've found for a mobile device
7.) Set-CPU - Allows overclocking of your device if your kernel supports it.
8.) SystemAppRemover - Removes bloatware embedded into the phone
9.) Word With Friends - Fun crossword puzzler with friends
10.) Google Music - All your music with none of the space.... *To the cloud!*
I hope this thread will unearth some hidden gem apps and make users more aware of how they can take advantage of their hardware and get more use out of their phones.
Thanks
*BTW... sorry to the mods if threads like this exist already for this phone.*
•Facebook + Messenger - socialize from my couch
•Paper Camera - Takes awesome sketchbook style photos
•Tapatalk - keep track of forums
•Amazon App Store - Free Paid App Of The Day
•Stock Video App - Plays my movies
•Stock Music App - 5.1 Dolby sounds amazing with nice Skullcandy headphones, otherwise pretty basic.
•Cover Art Downloader - gets album art pretty effectively.
• Audio Tagger - let's me edit mp3 files. I'm really ocd about my music being organized.
•Plants vs Zombies - really fun tower defense style game
•News/Weather widget - gives you weather and news topics of your choice, nice 4x1 layout.
That's basically it for me. Really need to invest in Ti Backup still.

yeah, i hate the facebook app for andoid. the next version will be a lot better. facebook gives the new stuff to ios first and then android. the new version is a lot better. ill prolly try that app out till the next app comes out

im not a big person on tons of apps, so dont mind the small list
facebook (once updated, till then ^^what he said^^)
netflix
shazam
pandora
dropbox (great for backing up your sd card backups... just encase your phone is lost or stolen)
kjv bible
skype
whatsapp (best app ever)
chrome2phone
speedtest
myatt (best way to pay a bill when you forgot to at home)
music online lite
xda app
the list got longer when i looked at my sexy phone im still missing an rss reader and a reddit app though. hoping someone here mentions a good one
Most of my installed apps are must have . Here's a link to the extensive list I provided someone else with.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19278748&postcount=2
I wish people would just post 1 or 2 apps, as huge lists with no explanations are kind of pointless.
With that said, I just got a GS2 and have been trying out some new apps I never bothered with on my Droid 1.
I'm using Plume for Twitter. It seems like the highest rated twitter client, and I can see why. It's really smooth and slick and has a pretty intuitive interface. I'm liking it a lot and see no reason to ever try another Twitter app.
Llama- Ever wanted to try tasker or Locale, or jealous of the Razr's 'smart actions' app, but didn't want to spend money on any of them? This is a free automatic settings manager and so far it seems really powerful. I'm just getting it set up today, so I don't know how well it works in practice, but it seems to be able to do anything the paid apps do if not more. I always wanted to see how one of these apps really worked but didn't want to pay 6 bucks for one like Tasker so I'd say this is worth trying out if you're looking for something like this.

At some point, people just have to give it a closer look and try it themselves. Anything in my list without a brief explanation is self explanatory.

Some of my favorite, less know apps:
MobiReader Pro: a picture OCR, done completely on your phone. Turns the text in the picture to a text document, where I then use...
CopyPaste Pro: to copy that text and move it to QuickOffice, and use Evernote, and bam! Document for my computer.
FourTracks Pro: for the mobile musician - it allows you to record four tracks much in the same way GarageBand allows you to, and using a couple other programs, I can mix, edit, and produce all on my phone.
ROMToolbox: amazing program. It combines many programs into one. Just look it up on Market. It's worth every penny.
WifiKill: a fun, trolling, but useful program. Kills any other devices connected to your wiring. So say your wife or children are using the internet, downloading movies and whatnot, you can use this app to cut them off, and get all that bandwidth back for yourself.
Finally, N64oid: a great N64 emulator. Nuff said.

is if there was a facebook app (3rd party alternative) for the galaxy tab?
it seems to be gone from the market.
Friend Me for Facebook is a great app for tablets
FriendCaster Tab for Facebook is also a great app, but it is still Beta and crashes a lot.
Personally I'm FriendCaster Tab for now and it has a lot of nice features
I have no problem just using the full FB website on my Tab.
Same as tried friendcaste and friend me but not complete so just use the web

Great post! Never even thought about using the web. Will try that
No matter what you use, the full site, the mobile site, or the sideloaded phone app...it is near impossible to tag people properly (just one complaint). In the full site you click a pic and it opens in that theater/lightbox popup thingy over the page, and if you click on the pic to tag, the tagging prompt opens but then when you click in it to start typing a name, it just goes away and you have to start again. You can never really get it. And I don't think the app lets you tag at all.
I am still in utter disbelief that there is no official Android tablet Facebook app. I mean, what's the holdup? Isn't this at the top of someone's (Facebook and/or Google/Android) to-do list?? I just don't understand.....it's been months now...

uhh, It should be pointed out that there is no official Facebook app for the iPad either.
I paid for friendcaster and loved it, I even used it on my phone over the official Facebook app but the last update ruined it for me on both devices. The news feed will leave stuff out and now on my tab I can't connect it to my contacts. I also have heywire texting app and it would pull the pictures from the contacts so I could see a pic of the person I am texting instead of just a name. Also when I click a photo someone posted it will load a completely different photo from the album.
I hope it gets work out in a new update, I finally paid for the app and less than a week later the update hit so for now I just go to the site.

Two ways to do this...
1. With stock browser, everytime you open it you have to change the browser settings to desktop mode. This is handled in other forums and is really a pain in the butt because the settings don't stick.
2. Download for free one of the other browsers from the market, I use dolphin for pad. In the settings you can have it permanently set to desktop mode. This allows for the chat to show up on the website as if you were on a computer.
I personally use the website to check my stuff and use one of two free apps for chatting. Either go chat or the friendcaster chat.

So I used to run the desktop ua mod and I could see the chat in the stock browser. My problem, however, is that after typing I am unable to send the message. Pressing enter just clears out the text and nothing seems to get sent.

Total android noob, just installed CM7 on my nook color with build 177.
Is there a pack of must have apps and utilities that someone may have compiled to get the best out of your nook color? Like, backgrounds, must have tools, etc.

Thanks.

Just trying to figure out the apps that I cannot get from market since it is not compatible, like facebook.
I tried editing the pub file (in File Explorer, opened with a notepad editor, set display to 160) but cannot save it. Reading up on that and once I get facebook and a few others, I will be all set.

These are my must haves:
Opera Mini: I have found to be the fastest browser
Dolphin HD Browser: Use this for the Desktop Mode Toggle Plugin (helps with websites that automatically make you connect to their mobile site)
Pulse Reader: Really nice RSS reader, almost like reading a magazine
Netflix: you know what this is
TweetDeck: Keep up with your twitter and facebook account with one app/widget
Moon Reader: I found this one has less bugs that Aldiko, and has more options.
Perfect Viewer: For Comics, also has a PDF plugin
File Expert: Browse files from your phone and network
Thumb Keyboard - The best keyboard replacement IMO, specifically for tablets
Rock Player: Play pretty much any video file
also seekdroid is invaluable just in case you lose your nook or it get stolen from you. can look up its location from the seekdroid website. though hopefully you lost it somewhere with wifi or the theif has wifi.

Hi all,
I have a few bucks to spend and I need your suggestions on what are the best apps you can buy out there? Hopefully apps that can improve performance, battery, eyecandy, etc.
I have a rooted Note (system level only).
I already bought Titanium Backup Pro ($6) which I prefer because of the dropbox capability. I was also thinking of buying the Tapatalk forum app.
I'm contemplating to buy Juice Defender Ultimate as I think there is also a good free alternative. Or is Juice Defender worth every penny?
Aside from those, what else can you suggest?
Thanks!
BTW: I've already donated to some devs
Root Explorer
Beautiful Widgets
Widgetlocker
In my opinion Root Explorer is an amazing app.
Also if your looking for battery life i wouldnt suggest a "battery saver app" as most tend to just kill more battery than they save. IMO a must have is autostarts. Its pretty amazing to see some of the times your apps are autostarting and your able to disable them. For example if my storage is low IMDB autostarts or if media is mounted flashlight starts. obviously these apps dont need to be running.
Also if you have 15 bucks your not need of you could try spbshell 3d for eye candy. had it on my sgs. would probably look AMAZING on the not
Root explorer
Titanium backup pro or Ultimate Backup
Big Dogg Infuse I997 ZeusB5 ICS!
Transparent Screen Pro
So you can walk around and not fall over stuff when typing on the go.
I have it set to activate when I hold down (long press) the search button

Yeah, I'm sure a lot of us have seen how to get paid apps for free. But I made my choice to support app developers by PAYING for their efforts because it's the right thing to do. Expecting everything for free is seriously messed up.
I know I would be pissed if I saw an app I made being pirated. Especially if my livelihood depended on my development efforts. It would be like taking food out of my 4 kids mouths.
I say support your devs and themers......a lot of hard work is put into these things you use.

QuickDesk Pro - creates an alternative screen that can be invoked anytime where you can add shortcuts and even widgets. I can't live without it (CLWI).
Titanium Backup (root) - CLWI
Agenda Widget Plus - Pulls from both Touchdown and Google Cals and have them all listed in one place.
Touchdown - Better corporate exchange email client
AutoStarts (root) - Prevents annoying games/programs from running
CPU Master Pro - For setting overclocking and power profiles
Tasker - Just amazingly awesome once you get a hang of how it works. Very powerful and customizable. You can create your own progrmas, widgets, notification ETC. CLWI
GrooVe IP - FREE Wifi/3G calling. I used this while traveling to central america and all my wifi calls were free when they were to US numbers.
Gtasks - Syncs with Google Tasks plus you can set recurring tasks like bill reminders (although you could also do the same thing with Tasker)
PdaNet - For those time syou need to tether. It also has some masking tools.
Remote Web Desktop - Lots of cool tools and options
ROM Manager
Root Explorer
ES File Explorer - This is my goto File Explorer. It has root access and do some stuff like Root Exporer although Root Explorer is easier to set permissions and other things. ES File Explorer can access your Dropbox/Box/SugarSync accounts. since it can do that I have removed the dropbox and box apps. CLWI
Splashtop Remote - Control your computers with nice interface/controls.
Wordfeud - Play this game a ton so I support the dev
TapaTalk
Screen Filter - A must for using the phone at night in bed and not annoy your significant other. I've also used it to stretch battery life when the min brightness is still too bright.CLWI
Tasker is an absolute can't-live-without once you get the hang of it. Amazing automation of your phone.

Starting to get much better at it. This is what I have it do when I connect to my Car Bluetooth:
1) Disable PIN Security so I don't need to unlock my phone while in the car (one less distraction)
2) Set Media Volume to 15
3) Turn Wifi off
4) Change Display timeout to 30 minutes (nice for google maps and viewing the album art of the streaming music)
5) Turn on GPS IF power is connected to phone
6) Start recording video with DailyRoads Voyager ( A car DVR program in case of an accident so you then have Objective evidence)
7) Play the THX sound after a couple seconds to make sure the Bluetooth audio streaming is working right
Still trying to get a better understanding on how to create a pop-up menu with the new Scenes element. Wish the old Menu element was there as that fit my needs perfectly fine.

i got it stated, now i remember why i dont like cloud storage. Uploading three roms is a ***** to do, it shoud be ready check of they upgraded you to 10 gig free when you finally get on.
Why?
I like cloud more than those old usb's.
Maybe for Android users Google should give more space than usual but 5gb is enough if integration will be fine...only thing I need is "camera upload" feature from Dropbox and downloading directly from servers to a folder without using my upload speed (it's much faster and urldroplet is the only way for dropbox)...
Google rules.
No ubuntu (or any linux) support yet, so... i'll stick with ubuntu one (the same 5gb free)

The desktop Google drive application is a million times better than the Google drive android app.
Currently the Android app is slow to launch and navigate.. This is where the Dropbox app shines..
On the desktop side things are much better and simpler..
I hope we get some serious revision soon for the Android app..

This feature is in the google+ app.
I prefer the dropbox app however having everything google based makes things a lot easier.
Actually I've installed it and had a try but feel more confortable using other services. It keeps on force closing when more than two apps are running in background so wiped it out.

Most annoying of all, everything you upload from your device is 'Private' and to change it, you need to access drive on your desktop. This fixed and it will be quite bearable.
There was a major UI overhaul for this app today, but the Play Store says the new version is not compatible with the DNA (nor any tablets from what I'm reading.) Fortunately, sideloading fixes this issue.

I just gave up on ESPNs crap apps and just use this one
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS53RVNQTkdvTW9iaWxlQXBwIl0.
its basically just their mobile site you can get from the browser, but I find it works a little better than just using it in the browser. I hate using ESPNs apps, I just want some damn score and box scores. I don't want to add favorite teams, I don't care what your different talking heads have to say, I don't want to watch your videos, I don't need the latest update on Tebow, and I don't care who your sleepers are for this week in fantasy golf. I just want some damn scores, which their "Scorecenter" app makes somewhat difficult at times to provide.
With that said, the new update has made some progress over the old version and is a step in the right direction lol.

If you just want scores, the best app for that, that I've found is Sportacular by Yahoo! Their widget is also way better than ESPN's..

well, I don't know why I never thought of that, the yahoo app is great. I pretty much only use yahoo.com/sports and completely avoid espn.com for the same reason I do their apps.

Im pretty comfortable with Scorecenter, I like that I add my favorite teams and it just gives me game times/schedules and news for those teams.
I just got a DNA and am bummed I cant use this app, how does one avoid the compaitibility issue and "sideload" as you called it?
Ill check out the yahoo app in the meantime.
All you need to do is download the .apk file from the post and email it to yourself using your gmail account. When you receive your email, the apk should be an attachment that you uploaded in the email. Then open the email on your phone, click the attachment and install.
