Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there is a way to get the latest gingerbread version by easily editing build.prop. I'm on Uk orange.
I remember doing this on my xperia x10 and I managed to change Uk version to Nordic version.
Unlocked handset from Orange
just using my old dead thread to ask a different question.
Will i get the gingerbread update if i unlock my handset originally bought from orange or will it still depends on when orange releases the update. I mean normal unlock by paying £5 and entering the unlock code on the phone and not the bootloader unlock

If you do a SIM unlock, you are still going to be waiting for the update from Orange whenever they release it because it's still their FW...

Is there a way to debrand by modifying build.prop file?

No. You need to root your phonem unlock your bootloader, flash new firmware. I'm on Ornage UK and you lose most of your RAM when unlocking the bootloader before you flash new firmware.

I have a Rogers branded x10 that I'm currently using with Fido. I'm interested in updating to the newest firmware, but I want to ensure that I don't lose my SIM unlock in the process.
Can someone please confirm?
No it won't.
I presume that you have unlocked it by code.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Yes it's by code, I sent my IMEI to this website and they provided me with a code.
once you are unlocked it wont relock, even if you root or flash different roms

Hmmm......well I'm not too sure but I think you should ask him. But if you use flashtools to unlock it it should be fine according to me. But ask him or wait for someone who knows for sure.

there are two types of unlock.
1) sim unlocking to use different network carriers
2) bootloader unlocking - to use different custom kernel nd roms for unlocked bootloader
as for sim unlocking, once you do it, it will not relock whatever you do
if you are planning to unlock your bootloader be sure that you have SETOOL sim certificate or SEMC sim certificate as stated in this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19685019&postcount=7
Hi all,
I've got myself a carrier branded and locked SK17a (Mini Pro). I want to unlock the bootloader to install a couple of custom roms, but I was wondering if sim unlocking the phone would change the bootloader unlockability to yes.
Thanks in advance,
Dillon
No it'll not change the bootloader status...even after your bootloader is unlocked through test point,it'll never ever change...

I can still unlock the bootloader through other means, yeah?
Yes, you can unlock it via paid method

Not even by test point?
Then wouldn't it just be more logical to unlock via paid method since it also SIM unlocks? At least, that's what I've read.

Unlock bootloader via paid method - Means you need to pay to unlock your BOOTLOADER ONLY...
And to unlock bootloader that have NO allowed, you will need to do it by Test point (and it's a paid method)
If you want to Sim-unlock,get the code from your sim carrier (of course you need to pay) :fingers-crossed:
Hello. I'm wondering if anyone's managed to unlock the bootloader on a Sony Xperia S / Firmware ICS 6.1.A.0.453 where in the service settings it says bootloader unlock not allowed on a locked phone? I've seen lots of guides on doing this with a phone with GB and early versions of ICS but no guides with the above firmware? Many thanks in advance.

You can't unlock bootloader if it's locked to carrier. Not even on a gb.
Ok Many thanks for that. So if I get the phone unlocked in the normal way from my carrier - will that also give me the option to unlock the bootloader as well? Many thanks again.

I think that it depends of your carrier.
Ok - many thanks again!
Ok my phone is now sim unlocked but its still bootloader locked and my carrier O2 do not support the unlocking of the bootloader. Is there any unofficial method I can use (even paid) to unlock the bootloader?
Yeah the O2 are the worst by that question, definitely. But try to make a pressure on them saying if it is not stated in the cobtract than they can **** themselves and unlock or you want your money back!

so the carriers are the ones who is holding back the bootloader lock?...
Yes,they are guilty!

I should have look into this a bit more before I got the phone. With any luck someone hill hack it soon!
How do I know if I have a locked bootloader?
I read in wikipedia that the international version has an unlocked bootloader, is this true?
Does that mean that if I bought my phone out of the us (Mexico) I have an unlocked bootloader?
Cheers

To check, use s1tool to identify. I got its link under my signature link>newcomer>intermediate level. Feel free to use it. And second statement i not sure. Hope helps.

Any x10 when bought new has a locked bootloader, it doesn't matter which country it came from, the bootloader will be locked, as sony ericsson had an agreement with the network carriers at the time it was released not to unlock the bootloader.

When in service menu it says
Root Status:
Bootloader unlock allowed: No
does this mean i cant ever unlock my Bootloader?
mean is it possible to still attempt with the unlock process and see if it will indeed hopefully unlock or am i out of luck?
i want to be able to install CWM Recovery so i can install a custom Rom...mostly a Stock ASOP Stock Android or GPE
at the moment i am on
Build Number: 14.2.A.0.290
Model Number: C6833
and i am not currently Rooted as it doesn't seem quite possible to Root Android 4.3 successfully
My device when i first received it was a branded o2 Carrier handset but days after receiving it the Network unlocked the handset for me as in Unlocked the handset to a Unbranded version so it will work on any Network...i dunno if this means anything to me getting the bootloader Unlocked
Sorry to say, but at the moment there is no way to unlock your BL
The best you can do is:
Downgrade to .532 (read my guide in the general section or you will lose cell reception/imei)
Root (follow LordManhatton's guide in general section)
Upgrade to a stock based rom (follow Jackie's rom thread or my instructions at #34 in that thread if not using his rom) - choices include:
DoggRom
[NUT]'s rom
Jackie099's Stock rom
monx®'s rom
StarFighter's rom
i searched for these but non of them seem to be stock android i like my stock lol cyanmod/gpe style

You will either have to live with it, or you'll have to sell it and buy a regular unlockable one. Not what you want to hear, but these things happen when carriers have a certain body part up their asses.

Dunno, but it's worth a try. I'm on O2 and mine has an unlocked bootloader. I would contact them and complain that it's locked and you want an unlocked version. I've done that in the past and since then I've always had unlocked versions.

Mine too. I just complained saying it wasn't stated anywhere that it was a locked bootloader and so they'd missold me the product. Works every time.
