wi-fi ad-hock solution - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

I managed to solve the "wi-fi not showing ad hock networks issue" on ace os 2.2.1.
here are step by step:
1. phone must be rooted
2. use File expert app (i had problems with root explorer mounting rw)
3. assign read write permissions to /system folder (it's under options-more-mount in file expert)
4. copy wpa_supplicant (hacked version 231kb size) to /system/bin folder. it attached
5. restart phone
now the Ace will show ad-hock networks including one generated by laptops.
all you have to do is to set laptop hotspot using conectify or windows wi-fi.
you can google that.

At what problem do you refer? What is this issue?

If u use connectify then what is the point of using wpa supplicant..connectify already turns your laptop into a wifi hotspot detectable by android I think

wheres the file bro?
gonna try it..
latest connectify which supports the vista but it is only works ad-hoc so i need this..
i got vista OS in my laptop..

ad hoc networks are not detected by default when you scan wifi networks. This seeks to enable the device to see ad hoc networks.
I haven't tried this one yet, so can't tell if its working or not.
Edit: No links to files was posted. XD

file is in my first post.

thanks gonna try it now..^^
btw..is it rw-r-r?
or just rw-----?
btw..i had seen at my system/bin that the default wpa_supplicant has permission of rwxr-xr-x..
so do i have to set that hacked wpa_supplicant by that permission?
gonna try it after you answer..downloading connectify..hehe

it's of no importance. you need to set system od bin directory to be rw to swap files. it's read only by default.
i have managed to connect to my laptop only to open network (no encryption) using CONECTIFY, if it's protected by wep it won't obtain ip address. looking for solution. any help would be appreciated.

[Q] Accessing home network

Hi guys,
I would like to access some shared files with my SGS2 in my home network through wifi. So i first looked up for some information. I installed the ES File Explorer and configured a folder on my harddisk to be shared.
Once i opened ES File Explorer, i thried to add a new server. So i filled in my ip-address and my username and password from the computer. But ESFE wasn't able to connect to it.
So i went looking on the internet for some information, and what i learned from it was that it worked through a smb connection, but i don't have any clue how to let it work.
Could anyone explain me how to set up such an smb connection and what are the different steps so that i can access the shared files on my computer with my SGS2.
Thx for the help.
Hi, depends on what operating system you use on the computer.
If your running windows make sure you have file and print sharing enabled in networking, and a shared folder. Appart from that smb is running.
Make sure when you connect your connecting to the shared folder as some file managers wont connect to just the pc.
If your runnin mac os or linux itl take some config so youl have to look that up.
Hope that helps!

I'm running on Windows 7 Enterprise edition 64 bit. File and print sharing is enabled.
I turned Windows Firewall off and instead i'm using the AVG firewall. Do I have to configure something in the firewall options?
I installed Astro File Manager and the SMB file module.
I had no problem accessing the windows shares on my local network - just entered IP address, share name, user name and password and it connected straight away.
Ok i found the (provisional) solution for my problem.
It worked to connect when i turned of the AVG firewall, so probably i have to configure something into AVG.
Yeah firewalls tend to like blocking smb. Somewhere you should be able to allow either port 445 or smb or file sharing in AVG not used it so i dont know where but it will be there! Glad you found a solution.

[Q] Copy files from android to android using Wifi

Hey,
Me and friend of mine, we both have Galaxy S. All I want to do is copy some bigger file (few GBs) relatively fast, that means I would like to use Wifi.
Is there any software which would allow me to directly connect (no router or hotspot available) to friend's android and copy the file?
I tried searching google, but nothing so far.
Thanks.
i do not think that there is a way to do that.
Sry
Without Wi-Fi you have to use Bluetooth, but that will be painfully slow

You COULD try using a cloud system like dropbox and both install it with a same dropbox account...you upload it to dropbox he sees it and download it...its the only way i see
here are my ¢2 cents hope it works

You can try using apps like Wifi file transfer. Set it up on one device and connect using the browser from the other...
Works with pc, but the free app has a file dimension limit...

Without wifi you are limited to 3G or bluetooth and both are slow. Quicker to let them use your sd card direct by putting it in their phone.

It's theoretically possible. You'd have to make one phone act as an access point. This would be like wifi tethering, but instead of forwarding everything to the cell net, you would need to run an FTP server or networked filesystem on the server phone, have the service be made accessible by the network on the server phone, and connect to it with the client phone.
Let us assume phone A wants the file which is on Phone B.
Do the following.
On Phone B
1. set wifi hotspot On.
2. Install Samba File sharing from market.
3. Run samba file sharing (u need to be root)
4. Set sharing name ,login username and password.
5. Enable faling sharing
On Phone B
1. Connect to wifi hotspot created on Phone B
2. Install Estrong File manager from market.
3. Open Estrong file manager.
4. Setup Lan ---->add server--->put the ip shown in samba file sharing on Phone B
5. Set login username and password same as setted on Phone B samba file sharing app.
6. Now browse all file of Phone B from Phone A
************ This is tested by me and 100% working**************

[Q] Ad-hoc wifi support on XPERIA MiNi Pro [Ice Cream Sandwich]

Hi,
Few days back i updated my MiNi Pro to Ice Cream Sandwich and rooted it..
same as Gingerbread, Ice cream sandwich doesn't have Ad-hoc wifi support..
It can only connect to an infrastructure wifi only..
I want to connect my Mini Pro to the ad-hoc virtual hotspot created by my laptop, or Nokia N79 [Using JoikuSpot – Mobile WiFi HotSpot for Nokia] so that i can get internet access on my Mini Pro using wifi ..
Thanx.

i suggest connectify or mhotspot4lite if you want to create adhoc via your laptop. i know it's offtopic but atleast it's a workaround while waiting for a real answer to your question

The native Adhoc in the ICS is not workin, i use WiFi Tether for Root Users: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
Opend the App, in Setting choose the perfil "ICS WLAN1"
Connect to adhoc
I changed data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf (not /system/bin/wpa_supplicant)
Step1:First i scanned my adhoc network using Wifi Manager. It shows adhoc networks. I ignored it's warning and tried to connect. It'll fail.No problem! We now have the adhoc network listed in wpa_supplicant.conf.
Note: you can skip this step if you know how to edit wpa_supplicant.conf manually or if your device already lists adhoc networks on scanning.
Step2: You'll need to root your device if you're doing this through your device itself. If you use adb you may not need to root your device.(I had root access by default through adb. So rooting the device wasn't necessary for me). If you're using pc(windows or linux), i recommend Android Commander. If you're doing this from device itself, use some Root Explorer and Terminal Emulator.
Pull and/or edit data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf. Add the following line
ap_scan=2
Find line like
network={
ssid="your adhoc name"
bssid=*some value*
.
.
}
Delete bssid line.
Add/Change the following
scan_ssid=1
priority=1
mode=1
Push back/save the modified file.
chown ownership back to system.wifi. Type the following in adb/Terminal Emulator
#chown system.wifi data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
Ok, done! Now you can turn on wifi and if the specified adhoc network is nearby, your device'll automatically connect to it. Don't scan for new networks. If you do, adhoc support will be lost and you'll have to start over again!
Advantage: Safer than modifying system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant binary. Saves you the trouble of compiling modified wpa_supplicant or finding a compiled one for your platform.
Drawback: This is just a temporary solution.You'll have to repeat this process for every new adhoc network as it doesn't enable adhoc forever. It is good for connecting to your home network or other known networks, but if you want to connect to any adhoc network you scan,then this is not your method. Because, wpa_supplicant.conf will be overwritten every time you scan a new network.

i try, have error, wifi can't turn on
Do chown on wpa_supplicant.conf
You have error because you didn't change ownership back to System and group as wifi. To do this do the chown command from adb or a Terminal Emulator/shell:
chown system.wifi /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
Please refer to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591207.

Didn't work
I try chown in adb, still didn't work. My phone is WT19i
Backup of wpa_supplicant.conf
Do you have a backup of wpa_supplicant.conf with you. Try it.
If still not working try changing permissions:
chmod 775 /data/misc/wpa_supplicant.conf
Didn't work

i change permissions in Root Ex:
xx0
xx0
000
still didn't work, can't connect to ad-hoc
Finally its working
All i done was first turn off wifi and then open wpa_supplicant.conf in data/misc/wifi and placed
network={
ssid="Dilushan"
mode=1
frequency=2412
key_mgmt=NONE
priority=50
}
in end. Dilushan should replace with wifi network name. Then got ownership back to system.wifi by typing the following 2 commands in Terminal Emulator.
su
then
chown system.wifi data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
thats all. Then i opened wifi in setting and it automatically connected adhock network named Dilushan. I connected successfully to nokia phone wifi network created by joikuspot and browsed internet and also connected to a windows laptop. my device xperia mini 4.0.4 .431 rooted locked bootloader.
Thanks Hexcube this is awsome. i even started a thread with no answer before.
Thanks for trying
I'm glad that it worked.I wasn't sure if it'll work on xperia. I couldn't get a rooted xperia to test. Thanks for testing this. Now, i'm sure it'll work on nariman's Xperia Mini Pro.
Very good

mac address changing, spoofing for i9205 ir i527

Hey guys I tried all the apps in google play ( mac address ghost,mac spoofer and mac changer) to no avail. I get the same problem when I spoof the mac address where wifi wont recognize the password. Anybody have a solution for this? I am running stock rom and am rooted with busybox and supersu and quick terminal installed. A permanent or temporary solution would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!
Anybody knows where I could find the mac address in root explorer? Where is it stored? Thanks guys.
EDIT: I opened root explorer went into efs/wifi and changed the mac address on each file with text editor. The result is different mac address on my network but also shows my old mac address, so now when I connect to my network it shows 2 connections. I blocked my old mac address on my router settings but im still able to connect. Anybody experimenting with this let me know your results.
