GSM roms are for the GSM 3d and CDMA for CDMA 3d. I've been told since the windows mobile days, that flashing am incompatible rom can brick your phone.
Edit: if your phone doesn't say sprint on the top right, its GSM phone.

Got a question, if I got a euro EVO 3d then if i root and flash a different radio will it pick up different signals to better support it here in the USA or am I just stuck on edge??. If not is there any software adjustments that can be made to make it pick up at least 3g??

Isn't there only a GSM development forum? Q and A forum might be a little better.

You cant software modify it to get AT&T 3G. You need a X515A model number (Rogers) EVO 3D. No way around it.

Sprint radio compatability

I currently have an evo 3d. I'm running the latest ICS roms and noticed that my service is terrible. I have read that the radio isn't very good and I'm not the only one having this issue. Is it possible to flash a different radio on the new ICS roms or do they require the current radio only. Oh, and this is on the sprint CDMA network. Thanks for any help...
Nope just has to be for the Evo 3d I use the gb radio on ics even though I get better service on the ics one

In theory, you could flash a Verizon radio to a Sprint phone. I haven't tried it since pre 4G days. For instance, I had Sprint's HTC Hero and I would flash radios made for Verizon's HTC Eris. But only when the Eris would have a newer radio available. I never had an issue. I wouldn't try flashing a WiMax or LTE radio. I bet the developer Toast would have more input as to whether it is still possible or not. I wouldn't just go flashing them because that's pretty much the only way to brick your phone.

HTC one xl LTE problems?

If the htc EVO 4G LTE has same hardware and software as htc one xl then y aren't any of the owners of one xl complaining about their 4g? It just doesn't make sense to me y we are all having this problem...

I thought the EVO used gsm radio for the 4G LTE.. I read somewhere that the phone has an embedded sim card for gsm radio.. That's y I seen the gsm radio frequency on the menu *#*#4636#*#* and if that's the case we shouldn't have this problem... Maybe I miss understood but ill look for the article..

Whatever you read or think is 100% wrong. The Evo is on Sprint's network which is CDMA. While there may be some GSM elements reported in the phone, it is indeed a CDMA phone. Completely different networks, as any google search would show you.
Have u actually used the Google search cuz this is what u would find... http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-lte/177031-evo-lte-teardown.html and one from ur very own xda forum... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802714

Now I know sprint uses cdma for their regular services... But for the lte services they need to use the gsm in my understanding...

Sprint LTE does not use GSM.
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_evo_4g_lte-4665.php
Google search for Evo 4g lte network specs:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=htc+evo+4g+lte+network+specs
LTE is a variant of utms/gsm. The phone itself is not gsm, there is no way to use the phone on gsm networks. You can't even use LTE on other networks because they all have their own frequencies and differences in their networks

Thank u sir... Somebody that actually answers the question instead of insulting... So with it using a variant of utms/gsm the radios are still different I'm guessing? The only thing I don't understand is I thought the radio was built with the qualcomm chip so if the phones had the same chip then the radio would be similar? Sorry if I'm wrong just trying to grasp an understanding...

Similar board design with a soc but its a modular design that allows for custom built hardware. You can have 3 OEMs with 5 different phones each with the same Qualcomm board and soc and they could all be built specifically for one carrier only. GSM is the standard, CDMA is more prevalent in the US.

[Q] Is it possible to put GSM roms on CDMA or vice versa?

Just wondering if this is Ok to do because there are some ROMs that are better/cooler on GSM/CDMA (GSM ROMs that CDMA users might want to have but that aren't available for CDMA or CDMA ROMs that GSM users wish to have that aren't available for GSM users. A build of cm 11 is already posted for the GSM HTC evo 3d and not for CDMA yet. I was thinking about flashing this ROM but wasn't sure if It will mess up on my CDMA evo 3d or be unstable. If I'm not making sense let me know. Any answers will be thanked. PS: if the major thing of flashing GSM ROMs to CDMA is only like no calling or no connection to towers or what ever, its not a problem because I use my phone on WiFi only and play games for the most part.

I wouldn't recomend you to flash GSM ROM on CDMA device. It's possible your installation procedure will stop automaticaly but there is a chance it will brick your device.
I tried once, and it screwed my recovery and didn't boot ..... Not advised:banghead:
