Sprint radio compatability - HTC EVO 3D

I currently have an evo 3d. I'm running the latest ICS roms and noticed that my service is terrible. I have read that the radio isn't very good and I'm not the only one having this issue. Is it possible to flash a different radio on the new ICS roms or do they require the current radio only. Oh, and this is on the sprint CDMA network. Thanks for any help...

Nope just has to be for the Evo 3d I use the gb radio on ics even though I get better service on the ics one

In theory, you could flash a Verizon radio to a Sprint phone. I haven't tried it since pre 4G days. For instance, I had Sprint's HTC Hero and I would flash radios made for Verizon's HTC Eris. But only when the Eris would have a newer radio available. I never had an issue. I wouldn't try flashing a WiMax or LTE radio. I bet the developer Toast would have more input as to whether it is still possible or not. I wouldn't just go flashing them because that's pretty much the only way to brick your phone.

Euro EVO 3d AT&t

Got a question, if I got a euro EVO 3d then if i root and flash a different radio will it pick up different signals to better support it here in the USA or am I just stuck on edge??. If not is there any software adjustments that can be made to make it pick up at least 3g??

It all depends I'd there is a carrier lock. Might want to post this in the GSM 3D forum.

Isn't there only a GSM development forum? Q and A forum might be a little better.

You need the x515a to get ATT 3G.

You cant software modify it to get AT&T 3G. You need a X515A model number (Rogers) EVO 3D. No way around it.

HTC KDDI WiMax Phone

Anyone see this article from Engadget today?
http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/19/htcs-j-is13ht-wimax-smartphone-slips-out-for-kddi/
HTC briefly posted on their Japanese website information on this new ICS phone. I'm sure that the WiMax is a different frequency and not useful to WiMax here in the US (ie. Sprint), but it said is running Android 4.0 with Sense 4.0 and it has a QHD display. That should make it much easier to port Sense 4.0 to the EVO 3D if someone had a leak right?
Need ROM dump.... NOW!!!
We already have the one s.

The significance of a potential rom dump from this particular phone is that it runs on the same frequency of CDMA as our Evo and also has Wimax. The One S has neither.... meaning that a port from this phone could potentially bring use working data through 3g and wimax.

Ics and xda

Why isn't there much ics support on the xda portion of the thunderbolt??? The devious rom looks pretty damn stable yet all the roms here seem to be stuck on gingerbread is there a reason why this is the case?

The ril for the thunderbolt doesn't work for ics yet. It probably won't until we have an official ics rom.

How the hell did an HTC phone from 2010 get it working before us. I'm referring to the MyTouch 4G.

We probably have the most confusing RIL out there...
I don't think there is another SVDO+LTE phone out there.
It probably is extremely complicated and I don't think htc released the source either.

We have the only device with two radios sandwiched together.
No other device has this frankenstein approach, therefor it makes it that much more difficult to just guess on how to make it work.
With other devices which share similar or same radios, it is much easier to do.
The benefit to the fact that we have the radio sandwich in our phones, is simultaneous data and voice. The downside, we all know already....

Trade for GS3?

So as the title states, I'm considering trading my evo for a GS 3. The LTE continues to drop and I've heard that the GS3 doesn't have these issues. Has anyone here traded successfully at the Sprint store? Thoughts?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
you should ask this question on the gs3 forum...
HTC EVO LTE
It's not so much a preference question as it is a possibility issue. Wondering if anyone has been successful in explaining the LTE issues and getting a GS3
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
I think what he is trying to say is, if they successfully traded they wouldn't be in this forum anymore.

You may want to read around. The gs3 & evo lte have simular problems according to LTE. They both used to drop in and out of LTE. Samsung/sprint is or has upgraded the firmware to hold LTE and if I'm not mistaken the evo LTE issue is in the process of being fixed also.
Go into the sprint gs3 thread. There are radio signal complaints & also lte to evdo complaints. Honestly though I wouldn't blame the device, both devices are bad ass,and pretty simular when it comes to soc hardware. If you really like the gs3 and willing to trade beats audio, photographer style screen, kickstand, sense and the f.2.0 camera then by all means go for it. The gs3 is very fun when it comes to software modding. But in the end its all the same

Tell sprint u have LTE issues they might swap u like 3 times then offer u a trade or they might trade u right away

Don't do it the gs3 sucks imho my brother has one and stock vs stock EVO wins everyday use his does nothing but lag garbage
Viper4G 2.02
liberty kernel v1.10
hboot 1.19 S-off
What specifically makes it suck? I want to get in on this LTE, but it looks like it's not happening with the EVO.

Can I flash a older radio?

My EVO LTE is s-off with hboot 1.12. I installed the latest jelly bean firmware through the bootloader and my radio is now 1.12.11.1119. I've noticed my 3g speeds are much slower and was wondering if I could flash a previous radio. I've done some searching and everything I have read says trying to downgrade my firmware will brick my EVO. Can I flash only the radio through recovery? Thanks for any help.
Yes
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Thanks.
Do not downgrade radio if you don't want a paper device.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I think it may be possible to do but it is a very big risk. If you are going to attempt it, you better have insurance. Let us know what happens
I do it. I've never had a problem. I only use the radio from captain throwback zip files. The new radio stinks. My days as home went from900 kbs to 200. I switched to last radio and data came back.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
DO NOT DO IT. I did not read Captain's warning in red letters, at themikmik.com, and my phone got bricked. Radios could be rolled back with the OG EVO, but the LTE is a different beast.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I was able to flash an older radio but it didn't help with my 3g speeds at all. I then reinstalled the latest firmware to get the latest radios back. I think sprint was just extra slow for a few days because my speeds are back to normal.
Are your guys who are bricks wiping dalvik and cache? I don't understand why some can and some can't. I bet it's the production date of the phone. Who knows?
