When i upload video to YouTube and exit that tab, i can no longer get back to it later. I think this also happens with other uploads. The only way is to upload something again. So far i can only see "Downloads" in Android menu.

Is it possible to makean exception for some apps to not be killed ever in Android. The reason why I ask is because the stock browser cannot download all file types. Specially files from filesharing websites, such as uploaded.to, filesonic and a lot of other ones. That's extremely important to me. The only browser which handles these files properly is Opera. Downloads in Opera are managed with the browser environment unlike the stock browser which continues downloads in the OS even after the browser is terminated. Opera doesn't stay alive for too long tthough. So for downloading huge files I have to leave it open the whole time while the download completes. If I switch apps Opera gets terminated after some time and there goes my download. Can I somehow set an exception for this app?
Second question: Can someone tell me why cut the rope doesn't work on the the Tab. Both stock honeycomb and touchwiz are unable to run the game. It FCs as soon as I tap on it.that's the only game I play lol
For whatever reason every browser I try reloads tabs when I leave the browser. It's REALLY annoying - I'm stuck on edge most of the time, and finding out that my tabs suddenly reload just because I switched to twitter for a second.
I tried to pretty much disable the LMK, and it still did this...
I tried Chrome, Browser Plus, stock ICS browser, Dolphin and Opera (which does this slightly less often) Last time I had this problem was on my old tablet with only 256 MB of RAM. (Which still did this less often than the Note on ICS)
Every time this happened, I had at least 120 MB of ram free. Seriously, the note has a full gigabyte of ram, and yet this happens.
This doesn't happen to me on GB.
Is there anything I can do to make browsing normal again?
Like, exclude a browser from getting killed, or something?
I'm using a Galaxy Note..
Help please?
I tried all that I could, but was still unable to solve this problem.
I now had to downgrade to Gingerbread because of this issue, it is REALLY annoying.
I just want to multi task on my device...
I actually had tabs reload while I was still in the browser! Is there ANYTHING that can be done?
Still have this issue. Tried every damn browser I could, every ICS ROM I could find, but it still does this. Please help.
Maybe try Opera Mini (not opera mobile)?

Opera Mini does not really fit my needs...
And reloading tabs will still be slower than keeping them in memory, even with Opera.
Thanks for replying, though.
I wish someone who could help would reply to this thread. I'm tired of having to reload tabs almost every time too.

Hi all,
just adding my 2cents, I've been facing similar issue , as a lot of us, tried almost all available browsers on the google play
I'm finally using OverSkreen (floating browser) which seems able to stay on memory by registering itself in the notification area ...
Okay, it's a paid apps
Just want to let you know that I'm not advertising it, I do not know the dev and am not involved in anyway in the development
Just sharing my findings
I'm still digging that issue and landed here while searching the web ....
Hope this helps some
thanks for that, it's nice!
though i'd really love to use chrome, because of syncing and all.
Some solution here???
Try this:
1. Download the Root Explorer apk file from the link and install itit on the device.
2. Open Root Explorer and provide the root permissions.
Now tap on “Mount R/W” which can be seen on top of the screen.
Scroll down and open the “data”*directory.
Once in the /data directory, press menu key and select “New File”.
Enter the name of the file as local.prop.Now long press on local.prop and select the “Open With” option.
Now select text editor.
The app’s process name should be known to the user. For e.g. if the user wants to lock the Contacts app in memory, type “sys.keep_app_1=com.android.contacts”. “com.android.contacts” is the process of the Contacts app.
Similarly other apps can be locked in the memory in the following manner. Now press menu key and select Save and exit.
Now system will show a message saying ‘Old local.prop backed up as local.prop.bak’. And you are done.. Reboot and enjoy.
Get the app process name with apk info for exampel.

edit:
or use JKays framework to register apps as service! read the faq for whitelistening apps!! its great. works for me with opera. it is not reloading the pages anymore and hopefully dont cancel the downloads!

Hi, thanks for sharing your findings... Tried myself to use Xposed and app settings to make the browser stay in memory
Works really great
Only drawback is that it significantly slows down the phone so stopped that technic
Will try yours, thanks again
In my home network I have 3 DLNA servers that allow streaming of all myvids/music.
When connected to wifi on my S3, if i open the Gallery app it automatically searches and parses all files on available DLNA servers.
This drains a huge amount of battery life! and it does this every time the gallery is started.
So far I have not found a way to disable this search or even to limit the servers.
I am running stock everything.
I first thought it was the "All Play" service but disabling it did not help. I know believe it may be a part of the Gallery app itself.
Any thoughts/ideas on how to disable that functionality in the gallery app?
Note- this is not the same as DLNA file sharing. disabling that only disables sharing of files from the s3 to other clients.
This annoys me as well. As much as it is kinda cool functionality to have, every time I go to show a picture of something on the phone at home, it spins up the hard disks in my 2 NAS devices for no reason. An option to turn this off would be great...
I have the same problem. My WD MyBook Live, and media players in the network show up in the gallery and slow it really down. I hope somebody has a solution to this as so far I only can stop it selecting the option "View by" "Content in device" but that can not be saved.
Here is something i have found.
If you select "View By " from the Gallery options menu then choose "Content in Device" it disables the DLNA view.
BUT
only for that instance of gallery.i.e. if gallery app is killed then you will have to choose option again.
Still you only have to do it every time you reboot your phone.
there is another thread just like this that has opped up same section slightly different request.
Ill pop a link from this thread into the other and see if we can get an answer. Have you disabled the media scan function in the wi-fi section?

there is already a thread on the Q&A section about this problem found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704575
You should post in here to collate the information and of course use the search feature next time

The thread you posted was only started yesterday. This one here has been here for a week.
Either way ill jump on the other one and get the guys to jump over and get to answer I know you can remove the image cache but I'm not sure about the continual load because even if you remove the cache it will just keep updating it.
You can also root your device and manually remove the Allshare apk's. but that removes the allshare functionality of course.
I have done this on my S3 and gallery no longer searches for DLNA servers.
I've decided to use BubbleUpnP for DLNA streaming purposes instead.
Any luck?
Just got my S iii and am having same issue. I vaguely remember it asking about dlna upon setup, but I cannot find how to disable it loading pics from my PC every time I open gallery. Battery killer! Btw, there is nothing in the other thread mentioned about this. Has anyone figured it out?

I haven't seen any comments on here in several months, has this been resolved? (Aside from getting a replacement Gallery-style app.)
I'm new to Verizon and have the S3 (Verizon model of course) and have the same problem. I turned off all DLNA settings but the Gallery app still searches. I have Plex Media Server at home (Mac version), so Gallery gets extremely sluggish when I'm home and have WiFi turned on. It's sluggish to the point that I have to slowly enter Task Manager to exit it; no sense even trying to get the "Content in Device" option set because it never sticks and takes almost forever to get to because of the sluggishness.
I also went to the other forum link posted above, but that seems to be talking about WiFi always scanning, not this Gallery/DLNA issue, unless I'm missing something...?

on my rooted note 2 I used rom toolbox to permanently remove anything 'allshare' related, as I don't use that stuff. It resolved my issue with gallery slowing. I have plex installed, but it is not sharing photos.
Deleted.
I think I managed to solve this on my device.
I went into the "more settings" under wireless and network. And into "Allshare cast" when I turned this off my gallery suddenly started working again.
*edit*
Nevermind, it was just for a few minutes. The app started to slow down after I closed and opened it again.

Guys, this is an old post, but the same keeps happening with newer models, and i didn't want to use a third party app. I downloaded an app called DisableService (needs root) and disabled the service SystemService inside NearbyService. The nearby devices list has disappeared from the gallery's menu and the gallery starts up a lot faster. I have yet to try if the gallery will still spin up my nas but i'm very optimistic.

I have Nexus7 with stock JB system and I often use it to review files with code hosted on https github pages. The issue I ran into with all browsers I've tried is that when the page is loaded, it remains in browser tab for sometime but eventually (maybe in a few hours), the browser "helpfully" tries to reload the page and if I'm online, it shows the error. I couldn't find a way to get the page to show again.
I'm not exactly sure if this behaviour is somehow related to github.com, or maybe to pages being https.
The only workaround I found is to use 'save pages' feature in Opera Mini, but it's awkward and takes 3 taps to save a page and deleting old saved pages is awkward, too, and I don't think there's a way to update the page to a newer version.
I've also tried some 'save pages for later' apps but they don't work with https pages.
All I really want is a very simple behaviour: load the page, keep showing it in offline mode and allow me to reload in online mode. Even better, it would be great if the browser could be set to load the page from cache when clicking on a link in offline mode.
Any help / hints appreciated!
My vs985 is on CM12 (12-20150221). I first noticed this morning that in the dolphin browser, I cannot click on links to browse to pages. If I do, nothing happens. However I can long click on links to open a menu showing "open in new tab, open in background etc.". I can also click and type in the address bar, but for example when I pull open the dolphin menu, I cannot select anything in the menu! I thought it was just dolphin but weird clicking behavior seems to be happening in other apps. For example in the Amazon app, I can search but cannot click on any products to see details. Firefox seems to work more (I can click on links). This was working fine over the weekend so I am confused. Youtube, Gmail seem to work fine. Could it be some kind of bug that only effects certain types of web displays like that might be behind the scenes in Amazon app and Dolphin? I've searched around but cannot find anything similar reported. I will continue to test....
UPDATE: I thought I had rebooted, but had not, anyway this seems to have fixed.... weird....
